Very late, but it's great to have mod-free playthroughs on hardest settings to watch - great way to learn what sorts of threats the game can throw at you without always having the question of "but how would this have worked without XYZ?" Have owned RimWorld for years but was always too intimidated to get invested in a playthrough, series like this are helping me learn the games intricacies. (Also your tutorial series has been great, watched some of that as well.)

So I've been addicted to Rimworld since I got it a month ago. Only been playing on 500%. Watching adam has helped a lot. I'm getting a hell of a lot better. Organ harvesting like a champ for that early money & I almost beat my last play through on 500% vs casandra. Made it all the way to star ship research. My kill box is what let me down in that play through. I ended up getting over run in the small, simple little kill box I had. I just stopped a play through where I went with less pawns but made them gods. Only took exceptional pawns. Had 4 of my 6 pawns as tough with body mods & all excellent quality assault rifles built for my 5 shooters with 1 brawler with a long sword. I really felt it was going to be the run & had a pawn worth 4k in that play through. Ended up having a man hunter pack that didn't have collision and just went right past my brawler and over whelmed me. I cussed like a sailor & wanted to punch my PC. If they had collision, I would of won easy. So I re-watched his collision video and now I'm going to watch this whole play through at 2x speed to get ideas lol. I always watch little pieces adam but I've never watched a whole play though since I'm new to the game. I've got to see how you handle each phase to help me not "waste" anymore time. 2x speed & popcorn. Cheers Edit: Already 2 hours in and have learned a lot with that initial kill box. But, I noticed the campfire outside at the start & no floors in the starting zone. Did they not have food poisoning in this patch? Already it's way different than my starts.. I live off raw berries until I can make a 2x1, in-door campfire area with 2 wooden tile floors for cooking. If my starting pawn is 0 in cooking, I rush electric & paste dispenser before research & have the paste dispensing section face outside to attract enemies into my kill box. I thought living off raw berries was the norm until you had something like I described or a good cook because of food poisoning?
Late to commenting, but after playing with too many mods (even early on after starting the game) on mediocre difficulties, I wanted to to play like this as well (plus some graphical mods). But I was always so scared - watching this has been really enjoyable so far and a decent learning experience - even being in only a few hours - especially for how to deal with the early game. Definitely gonna have check out more of your content, especially with Ideology - great stuff ❤️

For example I live in England so I have no idea what Fahrenheit means so idk if your temprature situation is bad or not. granted that's not something i'd need to know but it's only an example so whatever. But it's a great series none the less thanks for making content, mate!!

Just found this channel, very entertaining, easy to follow and works perfectly as background noise when doing boring tasks. It also made me realize just how good the music is in Rimworld, I gotta pay more attention to it
Just a note, he plays with one mod at all times, p music. It adds a few tracks to the game and is essential in my opinion. The base music is good but p music takes it to another level.

I just started playing myself very recently. I've lost my first 3 crash landed colonies so far. And my current colony just lost its main pawn to plague. So its really enjoyable to watch someone who knows what they're doing as a break. :D

Yeah it is really silly how good Guinea Pig's are in RimWorld. It's nice when you spawn in on Naked Brutality and there are a few nearby to beat to death with a log. Man that's a weird sentence to type... lol
@@AdamVsEverything it’s the first thing of any temperate forest naked brutality run. I speed run how quickly I can kill a guinea pig so far it’s been about 2 minutes 37 seconds on 1 speed.

that point at 1:40:30 is pretty damn true there are mods for mass effect, modern military, a bunch of qol, a mod for spaceship colonies, islands, tons of cosmetics and balance changes, androids and alien races... It gets pretty far from vanilla in a lot of ways (if you want to) very cool stuff

Was playing my own rimworld playthrough while watching this video.. Just starting up. Tribal start - Random location (jungle Flat) get a REALLY nice team, was super excited to start. Before the first day came to a close, happened to notice that time was Automatically dropped to 1 speed. no messages, nothin. Looking around, i noticed a single Scyther Chasing one of my pawns.. tried to pull everyone inside. Too late. Scyther murdered everyone before day 1 came to a close... Thanks randy

another thing that sets rimworld apart from other survival games is that rimworld has an RTS element to it. which is pretty great if you are a former RTS player

There's tons of things like that. I just recently learned after 3,000 hours that you can drag caravan inventory onto pawns on the world map and it instantly changes their clothing... :P
Thanks for the playthrough! Im at almost 3 hours and i learnt alot already. I play with lots of mods but i try to not exploit them too much... For example, i feel the game should allow you to spread mud on the floor to slow enemies down... I mean it's only logical... I would do this in real life if i could. And in a universe like rimworld where there are ships everywhere we should be able ti travel to new rimworlds with save the ship 2... And have a global market where you can sell and buy goods. There is so much to this game that without mods it's just not tolerable for me anymore... Biotech dlc is the greatest and long waited patch for rimworld in my opinion, but i still need my mods. There are mods that are just too much... Mods that allow you to build armies of mechanoid colonists that don't feel, don't hurt, do everything very well and can learn and improve even more. But rimworld still has a place for that... Raiding a ship with 10 higly armored super droids is satisfying...

Whenever you explain the crazier parts of wealth management i remember why I stopped and blood and dust lol. I still like building bases, so I am sad to skip floors and stuff. I get it for 500% of course
At least they changed some of it. back in the day, when walls gave more raid points and damaging them caused less, there was a strategy to turn off home zone on your walls (so no one would repair them), and then have someone manually punch each section down to ~10% so that they were worth nothing. Talk about real extreme wealth management... lol
Just know that you'll never learn it all. There's just so much. I still learn new things all the time even after streaming it for 1500+ hours. I find that a good thing, though!

One important thing about 4x meals is if food poisoning happens, the whole batch of four would be spoiled. Early on, with low skill and without a sterile kitchen, it can be a disaster, since it usually means that the whole colony would be sick for a day or two.
That is true. However, I will mention that sterile kitchen is generally overkill. You can only get food poisoning from dirty cooking area specifically when the room is at -2 or worse cleanliness. Dirt floor rooms are -1 and do not track dirt. As such, I generally just leave my cooking areas in dirt rooms the entire game. Can still get it from incompetent cook (even a level 20 cook, sadly :( ), though.
@@AdamVsEverything Oh, so it was changed at some point. At old versions there was no 100% safe level, even total sterility was not enough to fully eliminate that factor (I've even checked 0.18 code - it had that chance even for a sterile room). One of my mods forces workers to clean the workplace before working, it is usually enough to keep the kitchen clean. Dirt floors still can accept non-dirt filth, so it is not that effective IMO.
Lol, it was weird going back to no mods after using some of them for years. It didn't take too many streams to adjust, though, and now I've done 5-10 modless playthroughs since.
Since you have 4 steps of priority and critical stuff is usually in the front end so you can also somewhat rely on the left to right prio. You should probably only use 1 prio when you want something done now. Like when you where right clicking for building the walls.
There's a few different reasons I will set them up one way and then right-click to do a task sooner than it would be on the left-to-right 1-4 scale. Sometimes it is just because I want to be more active with clicking/micro-managing in the early game with low pawn count etc. Other times it may be because I want a specific section built first, or I want to force them to do it instead of rec/sleep. Often times I will have force click to cut more trees than needed, for instance, because I know that they may cut a single tree and then take that wood and travel and build with it before cutting another. I know I could change the priorities to say 1 cutting, 2 construction, 2 planting, but then I have to be more careful of not overselecting trees to cut etc. Anyway, that was a long way of saying that I know I could achieve many of the same things I do by switching priorities as needed, but like doing some of the micromanaging-clicking for some reason, especially early on. :P
“It’s not as feasible to tame a lot of rats” that’s why cougars exist I started with 2 and now have 60 and you don’t have to feed them they are starting to actually die from malnutrition and polar bears are really nice
Yeah, I really like bears in general. Good all around and not tooo filthy. Elephants are one of my absolute favorites, but they have a 24 filth rating now lol

I think if your campfire is outside, it's not in a room and thus can not be dirty, so no food poisoning from dirty cooking area.
This is the first video that i have seen from you. I really enjoy the dynamic, the speak of you, the game and of course the challenge.

Just found this channel, very entertaining, easy to follow and works perfectly as background noise when doing boring tasks. It also made me realize just how good the music is in Rimworld, I gotta pay more attention to it
Just a note, he plays with one mod at all times, p music. It adds a few tracks to the game and is essential in my opinion. The base music is good but p music takes it to another level.

I just started playing myself very recently. I've lost my first 3 crash landed colonies so far. And my current colony just lost its main pawn to plague. So its really enjoyable to watch someone who knows what they're doing as a break. :D

Yeah it is really silly how good Guinea Pig's are in RimWorld. It's nice when you spawn in on Naked Brutality and there are a few nearby to beat to death with a log. Man that's a weird sentence to type... lol
@@AdamVsEverything it’s the first thing of any temperate forest naked brutality run. I speed run how quickly I can kill a guinea pig so far it’s been about 2 minutes 37 seconds on 1 speed.

there are mods for mass effect, modern military, a bunch of qol, a mod for spaceship colonies, islands, tons of cosmetics and balance changes, androids and alien races... It gets pretty far from vanilla in a lot of ways (if you want to) very cool stuff
Yeah, some of the overhaul mods are absolutely insane. Tons of effort, time, and love put into some of those.

Was playing my own rimworld playthrough while watching this video.. Just starting up. Tribal start - Random location (jungle Flat) get a REALLY nice team, was super excited to start. Before the first day came to a close, happened to notice that time was Automatically dropped to 1 speed. no messages, nothin. Looking around, i noticed a single Scyther Chasing one of my pawns.. tried to pull everyone inside. Too late. Scyther murdered everyone before day 1 came to a close... Thanks randy

another thing that sets rimworld apart from other survival games is that rimworld has an RTS element to it. which is pretty great if you are a former RTS player

I have 500 hours in this game and had no idea you could move the pawn icons, wild 😅
There's tons of things like that. I just recently learned after 3,000 hours that you can drag caravan inventory onto pawns on the world map and it instantly changes their clothing... :P
Thanks for the playthrough! Im at almost 3 hours and i learnt alot already. I play with lots of mods but i try to not exploit them too much... For example, i feel the game should allow you to spread mud on the floor to slow enemies down... I mean it's only logical... I would do this in real life if i could. And in a universe like rimworld where there are ships everywhere we should be able ti travel to new rimworlds with save the ship 2... And have a global market where you can sell and buy goods. There is so much to this game that without mods it's just not tolerable for me anymore... Biotech dlc is the greatest and long waited patch for rimworld in my opinion, but i still need my mods.
There are mods that are just too much... Mods that allow you to build armies of mechanoid colonists that don't feel, don't hurt, do everything very well and can learn and improve even more. But rimworld still has a place for that... Raiding a ship with 10 higly armored super droids is satisfying...

At least they changed some of it. back in the day, when walls gave more raid points and damaging them caused less, there was a strategy to turn off home zone on your walls (so no one would repair them), and then have someone manually punch each section down to ~10% so that they were worth nothing. Talk about real extreme wealth management... lol
I struggle on the easier difficulties with mods and pausing. The skill and mental fortitude required for this is pretty impressive.

One important thing about 4x meals is if food poisoning happens, the whole batch of four would be spoiled. Early on, with low skill and without a sterile kitchen, it can be a disaster, since it usually means that the whole colony would be sick for a day or two.
That is true. However, I will mention that sterile kitchen is generally overkill. You can only get food poisoning from dirty cooking area specifically when the room is at -2 or worse cleanliness. Dirt floor rooms are -1 and do not track dirt. As such, I generally just leave my cooking areas in dirt rooms the entire game. Can still get it from incompetent cook (even a level 20 cook, sadly :( ), though.
@@AdamVsEverything Oh, so it was changed at some point. At old versions there was no 100% safe level, even total sterility was not enough to fully eliminate that factor (I've even checked 0.18 code - it had that chance even for a sterile room).
One of my mods forces workers to clean the workplace before working, it is usually enough to keep the kitchen clean. Dirt floors still can accept non-dirt filth, so it is not that effective IMO.

Since you have 4 steps of priority and critical stuff is usually in the front end so you can also somewhat rely on the left to right prio. You should probably only use 1 prio when you want something done now. Like when you where right clicking for building the walls.
There's a few different reasons I will set them up one way and then right-click to do a task sooner than it would be on the left-to-right 1-4 scale. Sometimes it is just because I want to be more active with clicking/micro-managing in the early game with low pawn count etc. Other times it may be because I want a specific section built first, or I want to force them to do it instead of rec/sleep. Often times I will have force click to cut more trees than needed, for instance, because I know that they may cut a single tree and then take that wood and travel and build with it before cutting another. I know I could change the priorities to say 1 cutting, 2 construction, 2 planting, but then I have to be more careful of not overselecting trees to cut etc. Anyway, that was a long way of saying that I know I could achieve many of the same things I do by switching priorities as needed, but like doing some of the micromanaging-clicking for some reason, especially early on. :P
“It’s not as feasible to tame a lot of rats” that’s why cougars exist I started with 2 and now have 60 and you don’t have to feed them they are starting to actually die from malnutrition and polar bears are really nice
Yeah, I really like bears in general. Good all around and not tooo filthy. Elephants are one of my absolute favorites, but they have a 24 filth rating now lol
