Looks like Boss has done it again.
They are so good at this, we shouldn't be surprised!
GOAT
@@rgeraldc80s BAAAA
Strange. There's alot of tones here that their new digital delay also does. As their SDE-3000 is actually analog, you can make it sound analog instead of digital with the same type of modulation. Just strange...
Its crazy that this pedal exists. Roland won't even remake their analog synths yet their guitar brand BOSS made a modern 12 bbd delay....thats insane. Love it so much!
This ^^^^^^
My thoughts exactly.. fingers crossed it's an indication of a shift in direction :)
@@juicythedj750 - If they (properly) re-issued their classic 80s synths and they were priced comparitive to the recent re-issues like OB-X8, Pro 5/10 and MiniMoog I think they would be pretty damn popular. Hell, I'd even be happy to see Roland release a new true analog (not software posing as hardware) synth. Surely they have the skills.
@@riloh58Roland doesnt have the skills to make analog synths. its especially evident because they sub contracted out the design of the SE-02 and the System 500 to other companies.
@@kujumz806 - Good point. I remember that. Maybe one day they will get the know how back in house. I rarely see a Roland or Boss box these days that interests me (and that is probably as much because I don't really need anymore gear) but this delay looks very interesting.
Love it when the captain can’t contain his glee while Pete is playing… Always the hallmark of a fun video demonstrating a great piece of kit!
cos he knows how many units Petes demos help shift :P
@@BkBk-gy6vr pretty sure your right- but that strategy works VERY well!
Fun fact : the original Boss DM-1 used CCD (NOT BBD) technology.
I've got one. Under the bonnet, it has a 5101 chip (a Reticon, but not from the SAD/BBD family). VERY dark-n-warm... to a fault.
(and I found it decades ago on de'bay' for 25$usd.... best pedal "find" ever, for me.)
Anyway, since this new Boss unit re-uses the external design esthetic, I thought I would mention the obvious.
It is great to watch the evolution in guitar effects. We've got digital effects, and also a new generation of analog effects. What an era! Great playing and demo guys!
17:54 was the best moment. Just two friends appreciating the effect that a song has on us as people. Really cool how they can't articulate into words exactly what they're thinking, but they both understand each other! Lol Great stuff.
I am so excited for this pedal. Boss did a fantastic job with this one
I just LOVE how you showcase the new pedal by breaking down a piece of music like a production/composing lesson. It feels so natural and exciting to hear you play and speak with such a passion, not necesserily about "new product" but more like new tool to create something beautiful. I'm touched but in a good way.
Best wishes to all of you and kudos to Mr. Honore for as always great playing
Best sounding, most versatile delay I have ever heard. Holy moly.
Regarding Edge's tone from the War era, when they toured that album, Edge's main delay became the Korg SDD-3000 which was a digital delay (listen to New Years Day at Red Rocks, phenomenal performance). I used one back then myself and it was an incredible sounding unit. That was a mainstay in his rig for years and was the main delay all over The Unforgettable Fire.
Those are a sound all their own. Early digital stuff was lofi compared to todays possibilities so those lower bit digital delays have a really cool thing too
@@justinguitarcia I assure you there was nothing lofi about the SDD-3000. It had character and sounded less clinical than some of today's digital delays (or even late 80s units like the Korg A3 which Edge used too), but it was NOT lofi. The Memory Man, sure, but not the SDD-300 or the TC2290 which was also quite popular back then.
Yes I think sdd3000 was a 12 bit delay while modern units are 24 bit, that made the Korg kinda lo-fi
Wasn’t he using the deLuxe memory Man during war?
I did as suggested and watched this video with a reasonably decent set of headphones and my word that is a sweet sounding pedal
Boss is once again showing us all how it's done 👍
Great educational and entertaining look at this! Learned about Heritage guitars a bit as well! Keep it up!
My search for the ultimate analog delay might be over. Boss really nailed the design. Expensive as heck, though. Thanks.
This is the first Boss pedal that has seriously caught my interest. Wow!
Pete "The Man" showing us a beautiful example once again, Thanx Guys,Awesome Demo.!!
BOSS seems to be in a very productive phase these days ... RC-s, Slicer, Space-Echo, ....
Whot a great new pedal-monster ... OK OK it's not cheap BUT this is bringing back the original and beloved delay sound in a most usable and versatile way ...
Great stuff, great demo 👍👍👍👍👍
That PAN setting when listening on headphones is AMAZING!
Too funny. When Pete was playing the intro, my mind went to U2 immediately. Nailed it.
Love the little cover of Human Nature at the outro! BOSS strikes again!!
strikes back with mono input
I would kill for a CE-1 reissue in this format. Closest I got was with polish Grobert CE-1 copy but Boss probably has enough R&D to make it even closer with modern parts and add some extra features on top of that.
Yup, re 202, this, CE-1 gotta be on the list.
My money is on not a CE-1 reissue, but an "MD-101", if you will. Now that Boss has built an 8 BBD chip platform, they have the capability of building an MD-101 with dual modulation engines using 4 chips each. Two at once of Chorus, Dimension, Tremolo, Phaser, Flanger, or Vibrato, in any order you like.
I'm hoping for the same thing, I was so happy when they did the DC-2W.
If they do, i bet that will still be mono in , stereo out too, like this unit. I think they have dropped a clanger not making this stereo in. In the present rising popularity of stereo set ups they have hobbled its potential application. And tbh, at this price .. 0:02
@@gcvrsa stop stop, I can only get so errect.
The all analogue electro~harmonix Deluxe Memory Man has an EFFECT OUT and a DIRECT OUT which can be used to create a stereo effect. It also has a CHRS/VIBR control to do the classic Memory Man modulation.
Damn, what a great intro… Seriously thinking about getting this one… Keep on rockin
I wish Antertons would open a US location with shipping from a U.S. warehouse. Love their videos and would like to support them.
Very Cool, Thankyou. Awesome Delay Effects and Playing.
I like how violent the tap tempo light is
Sounds amazing and has every features needed. At this price range it has to!
Good analog delays are expensive, but they worth every penny you put in.
“The new Boss pedal that takes you back to reliving your deepest emotional scars” thx Pete, there goes the sponsorship, mate 😂💕
The stereo effects are amazing
Unbelievably cool. I need one of these. Wow.
What an intro and pedal 💙
I have the RE-201 (an absolute UNIT, btw) and I love how BOSS is getting the most out of that very cool chassis. It's literally the same box with different guts. I don't need this, but I kinda want it anyway. 🤪
A very satisfying immersive experience.
My new RE 2 just arrived today and then this drops lol, luckily the space echo seems to do some of these sounds
Uh...wow. Sounds absolutely amazing.
Damn, that was like one big hitsong from 30 Seconds To Mars or U2 or something. That's analog effects for you and great ones like these are getting few!
Where do I SIGN!
We need a Boss Chorus in that type of enclosure 😍
just gorgeous device
Nice demo guys, loving this delay
Well done. Sounds great.
Sounds good man! I had the Boss DD3 for many years and thought that nothing could compare………and then I found the Strymon Volante. In my opinion, the Strymon Volante is the best of the best for delays
This is THE ultimate analogue delay !
Danish Pete, do you have a pod cast? You are bigger than this channel! We love your intros 🙂
Great sounding pedal!
Delays since today, can't be better. This is top of analog delay post 2000's
this sounds so good, right up my alley - but damn its pretty darned expensive. I've whittled my delays down to two DM2Ws but I could see myself putting them on the chopping block to part fund one of these bad-boys
FWIW: TB-303 is a bassline synthesizer module which the whole acid-house genre is based around, while TR-505 606 707 808 909 are drum machines indeed
Hha! I was looking for this comment ✊🏻
Sounds great
Still love my old Wem Copycat. Surprisingly tapes are still available 😊
I want to win that victory preamp pedal! Love this boss delay!
🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯 All I can say is that BOSS has an army of genious engineers.
At 16:21 was that The Dane or the Origin?
Great video as always!! :)
That sounds rad!
this is the ULTIMATE Delay pedal! :O
Dude, Analog Sound Digital Brain….. that’s the best of both worlds
love this video
Very nice pedal !
Great intro Conan
Great video! Isn't the JHS Panther cub V2 stereo through TRS?
I was ready to pull the trigger until I saw the price tag. $250 seems more reasonable, but I am super impressed with it.
Pete out here sounding like Edge with that delay
Now we want an MD-101 and an RV-101, the modulation and reverb versions of the old enclosure.
Back in the day, I just used a reel to reel recorder to do a delay. I don't think it sounded as good as the pedal. I don't own the reel to reel anymore, but the '70 Tele I was using is still my guitar.
I am off to dig out my Digitech Timebender and do a comparison..🤘🏼🇦🇺
Awesome delay. Go Boss.
I use an Ibanez AD-9, it has a warm tone as well as a pretty useful range of delays. Wouldn't mind a digital delay but the AD-9 has done well so far...
I’ve used the very same pedal for 40 something years….totally agree with your take on the pedal.
@@GordonPavilion I don't know anyone else who has been able to do this but try turning the Delay Level and Repeat up full, leave the Delay Time at about 11 o'clock. Now play a note on your guitar and then move the Delay Time backwards and forwards to increase/ decrease the delay time (may need a good amount of volume on the amp and guitar volume up full). When I do this it produces a way out spooky effect that I have not heard annywhere else! 😆 Done it before the lights came on at a couple of gigs for a laugh and the crowd loved it!
@@gawentaylor6838 That's the effect every guitarist does when they get a delay. Also used in dub and house music.
Used to be right into using delay .now I just find it gets in the way will never give up reverb though lol
Anybody know which monitor speakers they are using now. I've heard them talk about them on one or two of their recent videos but I can't find the video.
Boss is boss at taking my money.
I wonder how the noise floor is? I do so many shows with in ears and noise, buzz, pops, can be very obvious in that setting. This pedal sounds ridiculously inspiring though. Wow.
Absolutely. Great tune ("Time After Time"). THE Miles Davis covered that song. Mmm...
Does it do that Aquapuss/Carbon copy tape echo delay type of sound? I use my Aquapuss mostly as a reverb. That tape echo type of sound is something I can't live without. But I assume this doesn't do that?
Sounds great but I will have to stick to my Strymon Timeline. It would be great to have two matching quality amps in my bedroom studio though!
Greetings from Kalamazoo, MI.
Lovely, just like you chaps😊
*The J. Rockett Clockwork also has true stereo out aswell (as an analogue delay) :)*
Not exactly true stereo on clockwork which has a stereo image. You cannot have panned delay.
@@soutterolivier aaaah, ok
so what type of midi controller would one use to manage the 127 patches?
Where goes other output signal from Lehle? .. Just wonderin because Boss is only mono input.
dual mod at 21:22 reminds me 'Voices in the rain' by Snowy White
Time after Time chords are IV V iii IV by the way. The 3rd chord is not I w/ 3rd in bass.
The intro bit you play to Time After Time also sounds a bit like America by Razorlight
The way Pete just pulls songs out of the air... I'm not worthy
I've had the boss re 20 space echo for years and honestly it's half the price of this one, and does the job fine ( it needs to have its own power supply though, separate from the board,or it makes weird background noses ). The problem with companies charging nearly 500 a pedal now, is you have to weigh an average pedal board costing 3 grand as compared to a decent multi pedal costing between 300 to 1500 with everything on it. Personally I think although these tech companies make good gear, they are pushing the price envelope too far. I've said it b4, eventually music will be available only for the rich.
But there’s plenty of cheap pedals out there. This is for folks who want more and are willing to pay for it.
I agree, the prices are getting out of hand, I'll have to find a way better paying job if I want to keep up. Guitar prices have gone nuts too since that lab leaked the badflu a couple three years ago
It be just the music only the rich can afford. Have you been to the grocery store…
Pete is all of us trying to get that Andy Summers chord position at 20:04 as we try to grow a third arm.
I have been sporting DD-200 for a couple of years now, and while it serves its purpose, I have been hunting for something analog on Reverb recently, and haven't pulled the trigger. This though may make me finally do it, even at that price point, I don't see it ever leaving my board.
Just pre-ordered with Anderton’s
The captain said multi-head Pete smiled 🤣
They're going to sell as many of these as they can manufacture over the next couple of years.
I'm a sucker for anything Roland/Boss. This is cool! Please don't let me add it to my rig 😅
Goodness me. What a sound
andertons! great vid, is it buffered output as usual or true bypass? thanks if you can answer...
It’s buffered. Check the specs
The xvive memory is a true Analog delay which is stereo and been out for some time.
Honestly, I wish they had built it with 8 of the Xvive MN3005 chips. I get the impression these are probably the Cool Audio chips which lack the clarity of the Xvive Panasonic reproduction. 2 and a half seconds, that's the delay I've been waiting for.
In the Roland synth and drum machines, there wasn't a 404. The 303 was the infamous Computer Controlled Bass Line. The small silver one. The bassline and squiggly talking alien sound on everything from Orange Juice - Rip it Up, to A Guy Called Gerald - Voodoo Ray to almost every Acid House and Acid Techno track. The 101 was the famous portable keytar, available in multiple colours - also a great bassline synth on Voodoo Ray and in pop on William Orbits tracks with Madonna like Ray of Light. The 202 was the much lesser known but similar cousin of the 101 and 303. Then the others X0X0X were drum machines. 505, 707, and 727 were PCM sample based, everything from punchy dry sounds to latin sounds. The 707 is a minor legend still though (The House Music Anthem (Move Your Body), INXS - Need you Tonight, Never Gonna Give You Up. Rick Astley!). The analog 808 was the drum machine of choice in electro, hip-hop, and electro pop from Marvin Gaye Sexual Healing, Afrika Bambataa to well ... almost all of 80s Electro, Hip-Hop and 80s pop (think near sine wave booming low kick drum, bone snappy snare, tuneful toms, satisfying smooth hats ... and cowbells!). The hybrid analog / lo-fi sample 909 is the drum sound underpinning most house and techno - for example Orbital's - Chime (also squiggly 303 bubbling lead line). The 909 is the sound of the ubiquitous four on the floor kick drum, punchy military snares, grimy punchy hats and slamming toms ... The 606 had same form factor and silver casing as the 303. And a similar family sound to the 808, less sounds, but sounded gentler, pleasant sounding (especially the hats) and the kick especially was comparitively, short and gentler in the bass, compared to the 808 (see Massive Attack - Protection).
Boss SP-303 was a thing, though. Maybe they’re referring to that? Lots of lo-fi beat heads love those, especially for the vinyl sim.
@@Space_pulse Yes, good point. They were mentioning TRs and Rhythmn machines (Roland's TR-909 was labelled Rhythm Composer. But Boss had the SP-303 sampler. And there is the famous Boss SP-404 sampler. Just not an old Roland TR or TB 404.
@@compucorder64 lol I was admittedly a little lost and probably misread your post, too. I thought maybe someone was referencing a Roland 303 drum machine somewhere, maybe they were confusing it with the boss SP-303?
MY BIRFTHDAY IS IN AUGUST, PLEASE SEND ME ONE , MY MUM DIED RIGHT AFTER THAT THE CAT DIED , THIS PEDAL IS A SURE DEPRESSION ENDING EFFECT.
Sounds like I'll be fine with my classic MXR Carbon Copy Deluxe.
No delay oscillation clips???
Looks & sounds just right next to the original Boss CE1.
This pedal and the roland evh...2 pedals i really2 want this year...nothing else, im tired with "boutique" scam 😊😊😊😊😊
i know its comparing apples to oranges but this make the eventide h90 look like really good value after the stick it got for its pricepoint...
That’s a (great) but entirely digital effect unit.
It’s the same form factor as the RE-202 and a higher price, it baffles me they did only mono in. In a studio environment I like to string together stereo equipment with 2 inputs, 2 outputs.
it´s a guitar pedal, not a studio gear
