Oh man this is a long journey and really exciting. From the migration of people from India all the way up to these now slavic lands. We have proto-indo-european roots (lots of Polish words are very close to sanskrit). Research Poland before, during and after the Great Baptism of Poland and its incredibly fascinating. Slavic paganism is beautiful and many of our Polish traditions have roots in old pagan rituals. Like the drowning or burning of Marzanna. For centuries everyone wanted a piece of Poland. We are in the heart of Europe and offered easy trade roots from East to West (if you head further south you hit the Carpathian mountains and thats a more difficult route for trading), to the north we had the Baltic sea, which brought Norsemen and vikings that would travel down the Vistula river for trading. Early Poles also fought along side the Vikings (specifically Denmark). Over years of wars and kingdoms Poland's boarders were always changing. At one point...Poland didnt even exist on a map. Our country has been through a lot, and since Poland came out from behind the Iron Curtain, most Poles just want control over their own country. They just want to BE Polish. Its a complicated past and the research can be tedious, but its really rewarding to know your roots and the struggle of your people and ancestors.
