I'm 69 years old and have recently restarted trying to play guitar. I knew the basic pentatonic, blues scale and basic chords. This simple and easy approach has made it fun to play again. This approach to building on the basic pentatonic scale is now not so tedious. I love the melodic music I can play after just this lesson. Thanks again for helping an old guy enjoy the guitar. Hey brother you got 7years on me I just started to really learn in the pass year have played every now and then since the seventh but never knew more than a few cords but now I'm really working at it ,raising three boys and running a business just never had or took the time to learn ,so keep it up its guys like you that keep guys my age going.
@@ProfessorJM1 We're all in this together and praise the lord for all my brothers,I hope you play like a rock star and give all praise and honor to God from whom all blessing flow, play hard Mike and thank you.
This is amazing !!! I never had the patience to learn a lot of different scales. This simple technique is going to really open up new doors to my lead playing i am certain...
I think a lot of beginner guitarists get to the level I'm at, where they feel like they're lost and stuck in a rut, unable to improve. They give up and come back, give up and come back. Having watched this video, I'm not feeling that way any more! I sound better already and I've now got the drive to continue practicing and improving. Feeling much more hopeful! Thanks 🙌
Another great video! The way you teach is so simple and effective. And often hilarious! Change your way of thinking, change your way of playing. Well done!
Oh man, I used to have a Charvel my dad bought for me in the early 90's with that same exact color. "Burgundy Mist". I was able to get a significant discount on the guitar for that reason.
Great video, I think as guitarists, we tend to over complicate things. When in actuality, it's a case of stepping back, and just giving it some thought.
You spends endless hours learning all these scales shapes for blues and finally realize because of the tritone in the dominant chord you can play a pentatonic , mixolydian, lydian dominant, H/W diminish and whole tone scales. If all the scales were superimposed, all the notes are chromatic, so you're best to outline the chord tones and play whatever you like in between.
Totally agree. I think this approach works well in a series of ii V progressions in a tune. Or even a simple I7 IV7 V7. A Aeolian shape works well over G7. I would think A Phrygian over C7 in same position. And I would think A Dorian over a D7 in same position like you demonstrated. Know target notes and you can make fluid continuous lines over various progressions. Gotta agree with you. Start with a foundation and build up from there.
Claus, why have you changed your awesome old setup, where you were standing and having your guitar on your stand? I think it was one of the best setups ever. Please go back to it again :D
You gave me a little case of the brain sweats, but it does make sense. Not looking at every scale like a separate entity takes a lot of the confusion out of it, even for an idiot like me! It almost seems more like a chord change than a whole scale shift having a "base" to venture out from... Might just be able to make peace with this thing after all!
Hey Claus, I used speed burst exercises to speed up my alternate picking and sweep picking, and it turned out to be a really efficient and effective method of practicing. Do you recommend using speed bursts when trying to get over a speed barrier in legato?
Ok I watch a lot of guitar videos. Yes I knew it was only one different note to change the scale but exactly like you said it seemed insurmountable like a whole new Thing. Very helpful to have someone who understands how you think about it say “you’re looking at it wrong.” I know all the major shapes and the minor shapes and the modes why does adding one more seem so difficult? It isn’t! Thanks! What is that program I need that!
So I learned the shape. I can go up and down in time and can kinda wander about in it. Where do you learn all these licks? Basically I can find like 2 or 3 but that’s it. Super sterile and boring. I’m so clueless
Raise the minor third to a major. Ultimately you want to learn chromatically.. thatswhat this video is ultimately teaching you.. then you're just looking to know your root, and everything else is a chromatic interval
Major and minor is, in this case the same thing. We are focused on the scales shapes and not the order of the notes. The A natural minor scale is also the C major scale. Same notes. Same shapes. I hope that makes sense.
Sir goodmorning!! greetings from philippines i am 61 yrs old but it seems that i want to be a pros in learning different scales in guitar especially yur scales which is very effective to me could it be managing to me despite for my age now?! what is yur advice for me sir?
i've been doing this, for years. i also found superimposing the other boxes ever each other was fun.fex if you play the the 5th box over the 1st (keeping the same root)t, you're getting the dorian mode.
Are there some good exercises for picking accuracy? I can learn any scale I want, but my picking game is outrageously bad. It's totally holding me back and I don't seem to get better at it. :/
SIR PLEASE STOP SAYING THAT ITS SUPER EASY BECAUSE IT ISN’T EVERYONE LEARNS DIFFERENT IT’S SUPER EASY FOR YOU!!! Stop insisting that it is hard. It isn't. Once you understand these simple concepts and follow them, it's a walk in the park. It is for everyone. Getting it might take some hard thinking and pondering.
Look again. Don't expect to understand. Stop the video when ever there is something you don't get. Rewind. Pretend your life depended upon you understanding in ten minutes.

the most intelligent guitar coach on youtube. I am loving the work-smart approach
Played for 17 years before seeing this mode of practice. Your videos are inspiring me to dig in and finally overcome my limits!

Man, I’m 53 and only started 3 years ago! There’s so much to learn, it can be easily overwhelming!
To you three, keep that up. Understand, people could learn many, many lessons from you, too. God Bless You.

I often overthink my playing. speed/playing all over the fretboard. thank you for making it simple.
Try using your ear instead of thinking about it.
This a great approach.. Sure glad I stuck to your channel. Not getting this from others.

This is how I learned natural minor and dorian using this same method it really helped alot

What software do you use for the fretboard diagrams? It changed the notes inside the dots as you moved them, which is really nice.
i'd love to know this too. This concept is really clear, and i'd love to have a go!
Neckdiagrams.com :)
Make a tutorial on speed picking with thumb nail like chris zoupa plays. Great video 👍
really great teaching
That's true in order to do that you must memorize the notes on the neck of the guitar

Good information. Thank you for posting; by the way half of your guitar is not in the video during a lot of it.
Thanks for the heads up
Love the Charvel!!!✌️
Thanks Elon for another great lesson.

How many weeks do I spend just on the facial expressions you do to get a better tone ?

How to do the same with major? With the same techniques

Nice
Why did you change the Camera-setting? Lighting, angle etc. is "not correct". This way the valuable tutorial end up being VERY theoretical.
Claus didn't saw for quite a while, hope you had not Covid 😉
ca you go any faster?

Slow down. When you practice you must play PERFECTLLY, and at a comfortable tempo... if you practice mistakes and sloppy, that's what you learn :)
@@MrDmadness yeah that's basically what my technique is.

Dude are you doing a commercial or giving a lesson...I just went to another site while waiting for you to take a breath!😕
I like it
7 note scales don't sound bad
Yeah I love those ads ! Play freely without scales ! The first thing they play is a scale !!!
Are you tired ???
You look tired !!!
Everything fine !!!
Bad lights. And yes perhaps a little tired!
