  • In part 2 of the first ride in Madagascar, the dark clouds finally catch up with Didier and me. There is a hurricane system offshore of Madagascar and that can bring lots of rain. In the meantime, I have flashback to the crazy slippery mud in Cameroon...

Only experienced motorcycle riders can appreciate just how skilled and strong a rider Noraly is. That poor Madagascan had his work cut out for him. Noraly's endurance is not just for a race, or a week-end, it is day after day after day, around the world. I salute you, one of the world's best riders.

Norally ,,,I have ridden on the back of your motor bike for 641 episodes and you have taken me to the arctic circle twice, the two southern Capes, across India and the Himalayas documenting the country as you go.
What I have learned......you are very smart ...in planning,, one tough cookie,,,a skilled rider,, a skilled artist with Go Pro and dedicated years of hard work and sacrifice to take me along. The more one digs below the surface of what it takes to do what she is doing the more evident it becomes. Her list of strengths is a mile long. Importantly she has common sense and a level head when dealing with the chaos in cities, jungles, deserts, mountains, snow, rain, water, currency, food, (edit)safety, and cultures. No one can be compared to Noraly and Noraly cannot be compared to no one. Peace!

I get it being on the “road” is a very special experience most people will never do. After 4 - 6 weeks your life is the “road” the rest fades. Riding essentially wi😢th your life on a motorcycle requires a degree of Zen and calm. Personally I have ridden from Mumbai to London (2019) and from LA to Santiago (2023). It is a calling in life like a moth to a candle you can’t escape it. But when you are riding in foreign countries and each day is a challenge down to the smallest things there is in my opinion a sense of freedom which is very seductive.

The offroad marathon shown here is further proof of your toughness and driving skills, Noraly. So far, madagascar is rather different than I expected. Up to now, only the roads and paths seem to be really spectacular but this certainly will be changing. By the way: I feel very sorry for the poor oxen in their yokes. I thought of Mahatma Ghandi's saying: "The greatness and moral progress of a nation can be measured by how it treats its animals." But at least the animals were all well fed. And it is also depressing to see how much the locals have to struggle with their wheelbarrows and loads ... . Thanks for showing us all that, Noraly.

Yep Willy she keeps raising the bar! As I'm watching, I'm sitting holding my head in disbelief at her content. She crushed those wicked tracks in this video and on a bike she isn't even familiar with yet. Should temper the naysayers that negatively comment on her riding skill!

When you started in Madagascar & "DJ" was told that he would be spending the next ?? days/nights looking after Miss Itchy Boots I could almost put money on it that he thought it was going to be a ride in the park. But even though he hadn't seen any passed vidieo of what you enjoy & get up too, he has got a wake up call. He will tell his grand-chikdren about this trip. I watch & feel that it is me driving.
I can't say anything because what you do is abnormal. In vidieos like to day my heart goes mad (up higher) it is the rain that is the main cause. Thanks for taking us along with you!

Great film. Your ride has prompted me to read the Wikipedia entry for Madagascar. It has quite a history and is an amazing melting pot of cultures. Your impression about it being a little bit of India, Indonesia and Africa is very accurate. Not so much of France left now, apart from the churches and Christianity. Felt sorry for the wheelbarrow boys and the oxen pulling wagons: incredibly hard progress. I suddenly thought this is probably what the roads in Britain were like during the Dark Ages and early medieval period. The bike's going well, you did well to stay on it in some of those gloopy sections. Good advert for KTM!
