Waddy Wachtel was friends with them and told Stevie in 1975 that Fleetwood Mac could be her and Lindsey's "band" and if it didn't work out they could go back to being a duo.....i guess it more than worked out for everyone!!!
Brian, that's hindsight. Stevie and Lindsey weren't breaking through. FMac was established and access. S. and L. brought the band back but they needed the band to make it.
This song is so poignant and heartwarming for me. I am taken back in time to 10th grade at Cortez High School in Phoenix AZ in 1977-78. Rumors was tearing up the charts and those songs on that record were a big part of the soundtrack to my life then. The genesis of that record and the one before it (Fleetwood Mac released in 1975) are heard here. Those precious memories of that time keep me strong! Races are Run is truly a great old song that touches the heart! Lindsey and Stevie have given us so much! I hope they can somehow find peace with each other.
All time favorite Buckingham Nick's song from my dating years in the 1970's!! Sexiest song ever, you could feel their sexual energy in every word.... They don't make them like this anymore!!
So many different kind of people Trying to be the same No way baby He said Baby there's no way If we could start again Well who knows Have we really changed Some say we have Reflecting our past Who can say Who can say Races are run Some people win Some people always have to lose Tell me I'm wrong I can't believe you We tried a thousand times before Rained on reasons Kept us believing That there might still be more Races are run Some people win Some people always have to lose
No matter what their relationships were/are, they sounded damned good together. I saw Lindsey solo in 2012, he is total dynamite as a guitarist and performer. I've never seen so many guitars for one guy. Had them all tuned for certain songs of course. Turner electric, Taylor acoustics. Pretty magical stuff they put out way back when, then just add Christine's British beautiful vocals - heaven on earth.
I remember when I bought this album on vinyl (early 1970s). I can't play it anymore but still goes with me every time I move.... Fleetwood Mac later joined with them, not surprising they would make that choice.
not to take away anything from the fantastic Stevie Nicks, but the genius is all Lindsey Buckingham, it just is. He is a musical god and create magic with any instrument, recording, and mixing.
I do not understand this comment. He worked magic on her magic. They complemented each other. She wrote the song and the melody. You should listen to her demos.
It's the greatest song on this- one of the greatest albums of all time. It was the bedrock that Fleetwood Mac would base the rest of their musical legacy on- production, songwriting, and vocal arrangements. REMEMBER--- Stevie Nicks wrote the song "The Chain" in its entirety. Lyrics and all. FM tagged on John McVie's bass line at the end. But, the whole song was her's from beginning to end.
I hope they reissue this. I bet you they more than they did the 1st time around! It's a shame thos masterpiece didn't sell better than it did. But when you think about it, they really only needed to sell one or two copies. One to Mick Fleetwood and one to John McVie!!
That’s not how Mick discovered them. He was scouting studios to record the next FM lp. Their producer played one of their songs to demonstrate the studio’s acoustics. It made such an impression on Mick that he remembered Lindsey’s guitar playing when Bob Welch quit. Lindsey informed Mick that he & Stevie came as a team. Of course the rest is history.
Spirituality is not a competition. It's not a race. There is no great “finish line” in the sky or hierarchical set of milestones on the spiritual journey. We are not here to look down on others and judge where we think they should be. We are here to grow in consciousness while validating and supporting others in their own growth at whatever level. Was it Morgan Auditorium or the old Moody Music Building? I was at the concert, but I forgot what year. 1973 I think, but it could have been a little later.
@@Bamaboompa Thank you for clearing that up for me. I used to always say Morgan Auditorium then for some reason I started thinking it was the old Moody Music Building. I went to some U of A Symphony Orchestra Concerts also. I guess they were in Morgan Auditorium also. It has been awhile!
I think Fleetwood Mac needed Stevie and Lindsey more than Stevie and Lindsey needed Fleetwood Mac.
Agree, they brought life back to Mac.
Excellent insight!👍👍
I think you got that right...

47 years later and these songs are timeless.
My god this is so good.. after all these decades, still one of my bigtime favorites.
it's gorgeous

It was the 1st LP I ever bought and I was 12!
A pure gold song. Love these two. What a beautiful duo.
I still have this amazing album and decades later it STILL sounds amazing.
Me too - one of the few great ones I still have.
Stevie voice is absolutely gorgeous.
Best decision Mick Fleetwood ever made was getting these two into Fleetwood Mac. He knew what he was doing..........
Wow, and look where things have gone now!
Sad story, fleetwood only wanted Lindsey, Lindsey said im not goin without stevie... years later its tha heartless one that forces lindsey outta fwm
What's up Bill. Saw this song on your list...one of my favorite songs from a really great album. Hope you're doing OK.
I love this song! What a hidden gem this album is!!
Damn straight
This and "Frozen Love" are my favorite Buckingham Nicks songs!
Mine as well.

My favorite song on this brilliant album. Such tragic poetry.
yes
Especially with what's going on now... 10/11/18.
Mine too.
One of the finest albums in my collection!
Those pearly guitar fills...just heavenly
Unreal harmony on this song. A sign of the combined genius that was just around the corner.
Still one of their best - after all these years.
I couldn't agree with you more.
❤ Love this Song Way Back Then...And I Love it more now! ❤ Listen Carefully to the Lyrics and You get what is being Said!!❤❤❤❤
All time favorite Buckingham Nick's song from my dating years in the 1970's!! Sexiest song ever, you could feel their sexual energy in every word.... They don't make them like this anymore!!
Fantastic studio mix... nothing sounds better than when Linsdey is at the control board.
So many different kind of people
Trying to be the same
No way baby
He said
Baby there's no way
If we could start again
Well who knows
Have we really changed
Some say we have
Reflecting our past
Who can say
Who can say
Races are run
Some people win
Some people always have to lose
Tell me I'm wrong
I can't believe you
We tried a thousand times before
Rained on reasons
Kept us believing
That there might still be more
Races are run
Some people win
Some people always have to lose
the harmonies are sooooo good
This song holds a special place. Time travel and timeless. Will love it forever. Thank you T.

the 1 minute is divine, nice melody , amazing
she s a fantastic writer and a incredible interpreter
I love most of the stuff they did with Fmac but this album is way above anything they did after , (my opinion)
I remember when I bought this album on vinyl (early 1970s). I can't play it anymore but still goes with me every time I move.... Fleetwood Mac later joined with them, not surprising they would make that choice.
Brings me to tears every time. LOVE It
....Rained on reasons kept us believin that there might still be more.... very cool.....
I actually just discovered this song. I love it!! Frozen love is great from Buckingham and Nicks.
They create Magic together... DIVINE NICKS FOREVER*
The Harmony plays the magic between the two.
So many different kind of people trying to be the same..... so true....
Still not on any streaming out let. This is such a great album that should be re- released physically and digitally
Will always love this song...
this song is shear poetry...

I'm from B'ham...was so crazy about Buckingham Nicks. Have the album...it's scratched to hell and back after 40 years.
Me too. Saw them at Boutwell Auditorium back in mid seventies. Fell in love with Stevie. lol

Yes he is. And her writing is incredible as his. Let's face it them 2 together = MAJIC ❤
Without Stevies hamonies alot would be missing from this album

This is not true. The Chain began as a Christine McVie song. The opening riff comes from Buckingham's Lola My Love. Nicks came up with the lyrics.

Flashback to seeing them in "concert" - 600 seat Morgan Auditorium in Tuscaloosa.

Was it Morgan Auditorium or the old Moody Music Building? I was at the concert, but I forgot what year. 1973 I think, but it could have been a little later.

This 👆 is great
Sounds like Seattle in 92
Only its Albama and California in what 74'?
I think Fleetwood Mac needed Lindsey and Stevie as much as they needed Fleetwood Mac!
The beginning sounds like gold and braid from the Bella Donna album 💙
amazing amazing....
notice how the electric guitar style is very similar to that you would also hear from Danny Kirwan and Bob Welch.
Kirwan, yes. Always loved this song and never made that connection. Thx.
❤❤ This album❤❤
Que 2 grandes compositores
i think this song is about leaving Fritz.
Great LP! :)
The beginning sounds like gold and braid ♥️
Incredible that this music wasn’t promoted and they were dropped by Polydor. I can’t get this and Frozen Love on my playlist. A rock-n-roll travesty!
Run that. Race
Oh love
Oh. Yeah...
Wow! Melody sounds like Joni Mitchell.
Fleetwood mac would not have been so famous if these to were not around .fact
is there anyone who has the fingering tabs for this song?
can find it anywhere
+Angel Castro It's really hard to find any tabs or chords or even covers of Buckingham Nicks songs
No. Way. Baby...
I am a singer, thanks to a few ladies: Grace Slick, Stevie Nicks, and Fiona Apple....there's more, oh yes! Lily
definetly one of my favorites!!!!
I'll go to París shoot all you had to do is ask!
