- The deep-space exploration ship Llanvabon, on approach to the Crab Nebula, suddenly detects another ship on its radar.
Aired 6th October 1955, on X Minus One - the science fiction radio series broadcast from 1955 to 1958 on NBC Radio - Развлечения
This sci-fi drama was so much fun to listen to. So retro. And a well restored recording. Really enjoyed the story. I just closed my eyes and imagined I was there.
I'd pay good money for even a print of that magazine cover.
Excellent! Close your eyes and imagine watching a black and white film as you hear these voices
Exactly! kinda grainy like the old fifties and forties movies.
The music constantly makes me think of Ed Wood's films.
Even so, not anywhere near as obnoxious of that ONE SONG that is constantly played in Black Mirror.
Henry Roa DeLuca not hard to do lol
i loved this story it was well done if it ever was made into a movie and kept to the original it would be awesome to watch.
That is a challenging riddle...
Some nice work there. Would have made a great Twilight Zone episode with the right actors.
I like how he said "crab LIKE nebula" so we wouldn't think there's a nebula made of crabs or it's a giant crab or the origin of the Great Sky Crab or something ridiculous like that. 🦀🦀🦀🦀🦀
I love this story. Probably the best First Contact storiy ever written. The resolution has been changed though. They find a way to trust each other by swapping ships and agreeing to come back to the nebula in one year if they want to re-establish contact.
You mean the story was later changed? Or just added new ending?
@@erikajohanidesova5104 actually half of the story is missing. www.tapatalk.com/groups/thevirtualcommunity/first-contact-murray-leinster-t1185.html
allthingsozish f
these are the best - space travel
Bravo! Outstanding!
Best endings leave you wanting more , more , more ! This was the best .
OMG!, set a random course, move out of scanner range, then return home.
This concept is like the Three Body Problem. Murray Leinster was quite prolific and it seems the ideas he wrote about are still worth thinking about in this era.
You have a great Channel. I'm glad I just subscribed. Thumbs up.
Loved it 👽🤗
Thank you.
Dangnabbit, I love this channel !
This story must have been written after Murray Leinster read some concepts on Game Theory .
How is the quality so dang good?
Hi Paul,
We remove noise using audio-editing software, and use an equaliser to adjust the levels. With these especially old recordings, minimising 'hiss' without negatively affecting the core audio is the goal, however as some of the recordings are low-quality, it can be a challenge!
Thanks for listening.
Time travelers. This team is made of time travelers.
@@NewThinkable Wow. It's like repairing and curating art pieces in a museum.
What you guys did is awesome, a great service to Science-Fiction and its lovers probably for decades if not generations in the future.
Thank you! Thank You! THANK YOU!
The creatures within and out grin, because they know we have no control of the end. They know there is no need to shout, because they know they will ride it out. When ji is over they will start again to get this world ready for the promised God man. Roar!
Maybe they should have gotten together and attempted to start a new people together. Their united interest in the burgeoning nation would be the strongest of all, having knowledge of two worlds.
Their spacecraft was "moving with the incredibly faster than light speed overdrive".
Officer: "Solid object about 90 thousand miles away, sir...coming toward us at an incredible speed."
Captain: "Let's discuss the matter for a while."
Time to impact: 0.46 seconds.

Totally Twilight Zone. Much better than the new Twilight Zone.
Ok
There's only one way to find out. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. What would Captain Kirk do?
he'd light them up with photon torpedoes
Do we make children so that we can have new enemies; new allies; new anything?
Maybe creators don't always have their creations in mind.
What's that saying: a bird doesn't sing to be heard, a bird sings because it has a song.
sorry people, i’ve listened to a number of these stories and they feel basically hostile to me now. the first and only thing they do with first contact is when to destroy it. this is not “the Day the Earth Stood Still”, “X-1”, or the Outer Limits. just feels ugly to me now. it wasn’t the times, it was the producers of the show.
Ok
