yokai scare you more if you know what it is, too.
I know some people in the west miss the innuendos
      (theme of childbirth gone horribly wrong and birthing demon baby that lives crawling under your house;
borrowing like the original worm/moth in sh1. This makes a sudden reappearance in sh3, maybe the moth had babys, which is like saying there might be hundreds of larve yokai worm demons from that one moth harry didn't completely kill inside the first game.)
Most notably the monsters that attack heather crawling on the floor are visual representations of this japanese folk lore of bastard children.
these same monsters appear in every silent hill crawling underneath the floor, sh1, sh2, sh3.
they even can hurt james attacking from underneath even though the theme is different the yokai are still in silent hill.

The only fallacy I believe in is the fallacy of thinking there's certainty in how the town functions rather than just different interpretations to which one might subscribe or not.
Shit, I myself had this one moment that might have preceded a seizure where I was nearly able to map out harry's movement in SH1, including an explanation for that whole bit after the antique shop altar where he wakes up at the hospital, other than "it was just a vision" . But at the end of the day it was just me tryina make sense of something clearly operating off of the rule of scary.

I think what this game is about is repressed memories of a traumatic events.
Something nobodies ever brought up is at the beginning of the game on the phone to her dad, she says “I forgot that thing you wanted me to get”
Implying she has a bad memory.
One of the first things Claudia says is “remember me and your true self…”
Then from there on she continually remembers through out the game until she full remembers.

There's a theory out there stating the game was originally set to be about sexual assault and an unwanted pregnancy resulting from that. If you think about it, lots of images from the game pops into mind, backing this theory up. Tying it back to the first game, Alessa was figuratively "raped" by the cult and impregnated with a "God" (a very interesting, evil version of the Christ myth). The fire and the splitting of Alessa's soul, and the birth of Cheryl is Alessa's first attempt to forget the trauma and to be in a state of "childlike innocence" once again. As we know from the first game, it doesn't work. If you try to repress trauma, it always comes back at you.
Heather is Alessa's second attempt. But she literally carries Alessa's trauma inside her, since Alessa (even when creating Heather) was never actually saved and lived through a normal life she dreamt of. In her dying moments, Alessa gives herself (in the form of Heather) one more chance to face and conquer her nightmare (represented by the fetus of "god" inside Heather that is getting stronger being fed with more trauma) before it's too late. And heather does just that: not by taking revenge for Harry's death by killing Claudia, but swallowing the Aglaophotis pill inside the pendant that Harry gave her.
It is beautiful really, Heather/Alessa/Cheryl is finally free of this "God", this living nightmare of repeating and reliving past events over and over again by remembering and honouring the only person who loved her in her multiple lives: Harry. And at the end, she moves past Alessa, but also does not need Heather anymore. She is now Cheryl; the name her father gave her.

So glad other people think 3 is the best. Not only is it the scariest by far, I love that it doesn't just completely take place in Silent Hill and I love the first few areas ( though the subway is a pain ) but the thing that really makes the game for me is Heather. She's like, head and shoulders above every other SH protagonist, easily. Even though SH2 has a more captivating story, James is just not a good protagonist at all. He straddles this weird line of being a blank everyman for us to fill the shoes of, but they don't really commit to it and it's too personal of a storyline for that kind of character archetype. I love Sh2 don't get me wrong.. One of the best games ever made. I just prefer SH3.

      Heather is SILENT HILL.
She had to be the one to end the story of The Cult, Dahlia, Claudia, Alyssa and everyone that was the cause of all the horrible nightmares cursing the town.
She is the reincarnation of Alyssa, and the fact that she is, makes the poor girl cursed even more, that’s why the mall, the Subway, and the apartments were inverted with the Silent Hill Dark World Twist, and it’s because the poor girl is haunted with Alyssa’s power still somehow, and she doesn’t know it or understand it, until she comes across Claudia and Vincent.
I love Silent Hill 3 too, it’s my second favorite over the original, YES, Silent Hill 1 is my absolute favorite of all the Silent Hill games.
Silent Hill 2 and 4 felt like side stories compared to the main Cult Plot.
I won’t lie, I actually shed a tear when Harry died, he was my favorite character and I felt for him after all the hell he been through literally.

@@jerrym1218 I can definitely see SH1 being your favorite. It's got an absolutely incredible atmosphere thanks to the limitations of ps1 hardware. Tons of amazing indie games nowadays are trying to replicate that look because it's so potent.
And yeah Harry dying was brutal but I think it was what helped make the rest of the events hit so hard. Still, I wish we had gotten to experience some of him in SH3, however briefly.

@@arsonne I know, there is just something about the PS1 graphics that makes Silent Hill 1 extra creepy and stand out from the others.
There is a lot of cool Indie games using the same type of graphics for their games too, Lost in Vivo is one that comes to mind and it’s awesome.
I hope one day we get some kind of reunion with Team Silent where they bring us back to Silent Hill with a brand new story and brand new characters, but I know that it’s just a fantasy that will never come true, one could dream though 😬🙏🏼.

Personally what makes SH3 the scariest and also the reason why it's my favorite is it's noises and the "in your face" horror. Now, horror and what scares you is super subjective. Everyone have their own fears. A lot of people have criticize that horror should be silent, it should be subtle. I can agree on some extent but as an intorvert and as someone who's not really used to busy crowds, Silent Hill 3 scares me the most because of it's "in your face" horror. The loud radio static, the background music everytime there's an enemy around disturbs the crap out of me. If Silent Hill 1 is a balance a dream (whenever you're in foggy town) and nightmare (whenever you're in the otherworld) and hell and Silent Hill 2 being mostly about the dream, Silent Hill 3 is mostly the nightmare and that's why I fucking love it.

There are just SO many enemies and they have so much health, it was obnoxious. Really a shame too, as I did love everything else. I feel sh2 had the combat balanced perfectly, SH1 is too easy, and I wouldn’t call 3 hard it’s just so sluggish and tedious. When there is 10 million enemies with a ton of health jt really draws attention to the lackluster combat mechanics. I felt it during the final boss too. I felt like 2 was too easy and 1 was, like I said, overwhelming, but in a frustrating way. Getting your ankles grabbed by the kids in the school, for example - more annoying than anything and often hard to avoid. 3 had some of that as well with the enemies that could just knock you on your ass over and over again, but generally I felt like 3's enemies and combat had an actually kind of terrifying atmosphere and I prefer that.

SH2 gets hype because many younger players never played the 1st, and probably wouldn't then understand 3 as much. But SH2 is a bad horror game, not scary mostly and easy to outrun enemies with a lot of ammo and items dotted everywhere. It is a good psychological thriller/horror though.

Definitely do a part 2. I always liked SH3 better than 2, also. I think SH2 was the first in the series for many (it was mine) and was put on a pedestal because of it. I enjoyed the game, but James' story is just some random one in the series. While Heather is a HUGE part of the history of the town, he matters none. Plus, I'd rather played Angela's story. Anyway, great job and hope you do a part 2.😊

Joel Peter Witkin could be included in that list, his work is refereced in Jacob's ladder. Also the music video closer from NIN borrows from his work. NIN also gave direct inspiration for the industrial soundscapes of SH.
Alejandro Jodorowsky, David Lynch and Jan Svankmajer also gave quite some inspiration for SH. Definitely check out the elevator scene from Svankmajer's Alice and compare it with the scene of Heather in the elevator.

@@FreddyDude nahhh it's okay ^-^ it's the opposite x) be proud that people liked your videos so bad that they wish there was more of it ! If you want fair criticism, i'd say sometimes the edgy internet / french jokes kind of humour falls a bit flat, but beside that that was a very pleasing video to watch, the rhythm, editing and narration is on point and it all got some identity, so that's cool, i like your cynic and nonchalant attitude (as long as it stays balanced to not only be a "fuck you jokes" fest), and all that is only my opinion, do what you want with it but yeah, i just wanted to let you know you got a good writing and hearing you narrate a story with a contextual commentary was great ! Hope to see more of you soon ^-^ (im a huge fan of these particular kind off videos, maybe other people will find it too long or idk, but i think that was good)
Also : your video title make it look like it's a review or analysis where you will show and explain multiples point that explains why SH3 is your favourite silent hill, but it's actually less an analysis with exposition > thesis > antithesis > conclusion
And more of a narrative letsplay complimenting the good things found along the way (good game / level design, good sound design / ambience / characters interactions etc) and the video ends abruptly with no real conclusion or message
So that's maybe where your script writing needs a bit more training imo, but besides, you can be proud of that video it was really worth the time !
Sry for such a long comment, i hope that feedback can be useful or whatever x)

How? SH2 is the most boring to replay because the game is so easy and barely scary. The best thing it has going for it is the soundtrack and the letter at the end, but do those really warrant a replay (especially with that horrible boat section)? Not even the unlockables are much fun to use.

Idk if the close really represents greed, consumerism and all that. I think they actually might be closer to the way teenage girls would see and have to deal/interact with men and unwanted sexual attention. The fact they're constantly pestering her while also being pretty slow and easy to avoid most of the times. The fact they're feeding on a woman in a clothes shop imo is more in line with that view too. Sex is a constant theme through silent hill games and i just think here it's presented in a different lens from the protagonists being a teen girl and how her experiences with it are most of the time unconsented and unwanted (much like how unwanted pregnancy is used in that motif)

SH 3 was fine, but you need to have played first one to really enjoy it I thing. And the combats... to many combats. It was better in SH2 (worse in sh4 with the backtracking in later stages). Every time I get a game over it's immersion breaking and build up frustration, not fear. It's why I prefer SOMA (without the horrible stealth passages), because it's your actions and the story that are disturbing, not some 'cheap' monsters.
Horror games need better puzzle gameplay, not more combat/action !

You got the aspect of silent hill completely wrong. It doesn’t change through the eyes of each person. On the team silent games it was only 2 that did that. Otherwise 1 and 3 were all made from alessas phobias and mind. Harry and cybill and everyone else all saw the same things.

@@FreddyDude I’m not trying to be an ahole, but not really, because douglas also saw the same things as heather, along with Vincent who could also see the monsters, and obviously Claudia. Your theory would of been correct if they all saw different things, or if one of them saw nothing at all, like Laura in silent hill 2. This is a mistake that all the western silent hill devs made when making their games, all just basically copies of silent hill 2 of some guy who did something he’s guilty about and has to go through his own thing. It ruined all the western games in my opinion. Instead of making it their own they just tried to copy silent hill 2. Except shattered memories, that was alright I guess. But that just copied silent hill 1.
