Caleb, you're out here doing the REAL work! Thank you for your dedication, creativity, and consistency. Going to purchase something from your store now to support.
WARNING: In case I didn't make it clear enough in the video, be careful when modding batteries and power accessories and perform all of this stuff at your own risk. I would also recommend sticking with official batteries like Sony's FZ-100 as cheaper models may not be up to the task of powering higher current devices. Finally, while these smaller batteries have the same voltage, max current draw is different. So don't use this little fellas on a light that uses NP-F990 batteries like COB lights etc. All that aside, happy modding!
I have a question, the atomos battery eliminator does it work on other monitors? Just got the smallhd action 5 and was thinking of powering it with that and and v mount. Please let me know
Cue inexperienced people shocking the crap out of themselves. 😎 The capacity issue means you're going to have to buy many more of them. Seems easier to just use NP-Fs. Having one of these adapters in the bag, just for emergencies, seems likely.
Great idea! 👏👍Please make a few for sale to your followers who don't have your DIY chops! 😁🙏 I'm sure that your price would be reasonable so I will buy two if/when they're available!
You are so dang smart! What is next?? Lol 😂 You should considering working with a company to make camera accessories. I can only imagine the ideas you would have in your head!
We love you, Caleb, you're brilliant and a great help to so many people. You're the REAL Deal. Much love and appreciation for you and your family, and Happy Holidays and a Great 2023 I wish you all. ❤️ 🙏
I was looking into your video guides and was wondering if the Panasonic S1 guide would be the same for the s1h? I currently have an s1h and wanted to know if the s1 guide could still apply to the s1h?
Please make a video on old canon cameras with magic lantern, like 700d,5d,eosm with magic lantern I think that 700d and 5ds are more usable than the eos m
Great video! I shoot videos underground while exploring abandoned mines. I wanted a single battery to power both an Aputure F7 LED light and a GoPro. I purchased an Andycine battery plate with D-Tap and USB for the NP-F970. Similar to what you described, we used the shell of an NP-F550 to make a dummy battery to power the light. A short USB-C cord powers the GoPro. Now I can film for hours with just one battery mounted on the rig. I carry a backup battery in my pack and I'm good for a long day underground. I've used it for about a year and it's great.
Fantastic and thank you ! Going on expeditions in remote locations, I need to bring LOTS of spare batteries, 2 chargers for each type, etc. and have to carry those on board since they can't be left in the checked-in luggage. So getting rid of the NPF would be great and would save weight and space. I'm a Nikon user so have to figure it out with the EN-ELxxx
FYI, Finally got the canon adapters you linked to on ebay and they arent working on my ninja V+. Itll work on other LP battery powered devices though which is weird. Looks like im gonna have to get DIY with it anyway eh? Willing to put in the work to try and get this running but you should probably not send people to this product thinking its gonna work for this application.
Sweet! I have almost a half dozen BP-900 series batteries that I haven't used since I got rid of my Canon XL1 years ago. Awhile back I bought a cheap LED light that uses NP-Fs. The NP-Fs came with a cheap charger that takes all day to charge just one, so sometimes I'm sweating it if I forget to put one on charge the night before. Had to do a lot of searching but I think I've finally found the parts to do this. BTW, I found that Adorama has the battery charger plates for only $1.99 each. But probably only worth it if you have a big enough order to get free shipping. Thanks for the idea!
LP-E6 user here. I think NPFs are better, but sadly most of my gear uses LP-E6. So my solution for low battery life was to mod the LP-E6. I removed the garbage lithium cells in a generic pack. Then added standard 18650 cells, which are like 20mm longer, but have double the capacity and 2-4x C-rating. Now I can power my Blackmagic Pocket 4k for a full hour.
No bragging here, but I've been a nerd and into DIY, and building simple to complex from 9 until no 73. So I very much APPLAUD you and others who present these ideas. People don't be afraid to try this stuff. Just be cautious, and if not sure, DON'T be afraid to enguire.. besides Calib and many of us, the answers are out there. The hardest part is knowing how to properly word the question. "NO SUCH THING AS A DUMB QUESTION ". Keep tinkering!
I feel like it's time DSLR Video Shooter collabs with one of those companies that produces this type of stuff (Kondor Blue, Smallrig, Neewer, etc.) And get some official licensed merchandise with your inventions! Would love to purchase something like this!!! 👍👍
I don't know, I particularly like this kind of DIY videos. I really like the sense of craftsmanship, designs and thinkings that went into them. Good job!!!
Even a small spark, for example from cutting the terminals on the cells themselves, could lead to the cells catching fire. Li-Ion batteries are notorious for burning off in a large stab flame. I'd even go as far as saying, that if you really want to do this (I strongly advise against doing it) - do it outside and/or with a fire extinguisher nearby - stay safe.
Hey! How "easy" do you think it would be to create something like a battery pack for use with a dummy battery? The particular use case is an event/presentation in the field (away from power source) where I need to have sustained power for longer than I trust a single battery to last. (yes, I realize that this is what v-mount batteries are for, but I'm not interested in getting into that ecosystem. Plus, I'm curious about this DIY solution.) In particular, do you think it's possible to create something that allows for multiple batteries that can be swapped out? However, now that I think about it, there would be no way to accurately gauge which battery was being used and how close to depletion it was.
But what's the point in converting your stuff to use those low capacity batteries instead of the actual NP-F batteries? I don't get it and I've been an electrical engineer so I'm quite educated in the matter. Probably the first advice from you that I don't understand why the hell do it.
@@TheSpiv The same BMS PCB function can be found inside camera batteries. No need to have dual BMS. In fact that would probably be very bad which is why we want to remove it and let the Sony/camera battery take over so it can protect against over current and voltage draw.
Perfect timing. I was going through your "10 Camera Monitors For Under $300" video last night and wondering if I could use FZ100 batteries on an NP-F mount.
A while back when I switched cameras, I picked up a few of the plates for my newer battery so that I could adapt the 3rd party chargers I have. This also lets me swap between npf and camera batteries on a single charger (assuming I don't need to charge more than one thing at a time).

Amazing and very fortunate find!
Interesting idea and nice job on the process!
Excellent video ☺️
Thank you!

Great idea thanks for sharing
Give it a month before we see Chinese versions pop up!
If you sold these I would definitely buy one
This is so cool! Saves bringing a million types of batteries with you 😂
Awesome video, thanks! any thoughts on budget camera bags?
I love your DIY projects. Keep making them!
This is the most Caleb Pike, Caleb Pike video I’ve ever seen. I love it.
Haha! Thanks man. Can't seem to get away from these hyper niche videos...
@@dslrvideoshooter Well speaking for your audience as a whole, we love them!
such an excellent tutorial on DIY battery adapters, very needed.
Thanks Victor!
Love this idea.

If you like the larger 770 or 970 definitely, but I hate those big fellas and prefer to keep things light.
Great video and idea.... Thinking to update my batteries process
But why not just buy NP-F - has greater capacity and all. Yeah it might be more convinient for some though.
As stated I just don't like the bigger batteries and would prefer to keep everything the same and lightweight.
Right on brother! This is million $ hack!
You can pry the plastic cover off the back of the Watson plates to directly access the wires, rather than soldering onto the flat metal contacts.
Great idea! 👏👍Please make a few for sale to your followers who don't have your DIY chops! 😁🙏 I'm sure that your price would be reasonable so I will buy two if/when they're available!

If you could figure out how to power a ninja from a power bank... then you would be the messiah!
Just tried this... heading to ER now... JK... this is actually awesome! I'll be careful! :-)
I love the DIY stuff!
...and You change a very chip 750mAh battery to very expensiv and small 2280mAh battery! Or it is 1. April joke?😂😅👎
We love you, Caleb, you're brilliant and a great help to so many people. You're the REAL Deal. Much love and appreciation for you and your family, and Happy Holidays and a Great 2023 I wish you all. ❤️ 🙏
Appreciate the DIY nature of this but NPF batteries are cheap, ubiquitous and plentiful! So the questions remains? Why?
Great tutorial Caleb! Wish I saw this before I bought all the NP-550's for my monitor...LOL!
Buddy, do you have a tutorial on making my SONY MDR 7506's to wireless like YOu did with the Rode wireless Go?
I was looking into your video guides and was wondering if the Panasonic S1 guide would be the same for the s1h? I currently have an s1h and wanted to know if the s1 guide could still apply to the s1h?
it cannot power something like ninja v, that thing even chews 570 and 970, only a hack for small monitors, but then you lack the continuous hot swap
Good morning Sir, I would like to inquire more information on your Master Class :) Awesome Video Caleb!
Hi Caleb! Great idea! But I think this link is wrong! Thanks!
thanks for the Video it was educational and usfull! Love your videos
I think I did something wrong. started making this but ended up making an arc reactor in a cave with a box of scraps.
Please make a video on old canon cameras with magic lantern, like 700d,5d,eosm with magic lantern

Why would you want to use the more expensive camera batteries for the devices that are compatible with much cheaper batteries?
I love this. Very much in my wheelhouse. Between this and painting cameras white you are my hero.
Jesus is returning! Repent of your sins, for the kingdom of heaven is at stake!
why use expensive proprietary batteries when you can power most of the stuff with usb c pd?
I have a few of these battery plates, a few npf shells from old dead batteries, and a ton of these Sony a7 batteries
This would be great for my needs
Have you either seen or created a clamp to secure the aux jacks on the FX3?
Now I just need an fz adapter for my fw cameras cuz imma too poor for the good bodies
Caleb, Let’s Talk!
You're in SoCal too!
Super cool hack! Gotta give this a try.
Exact link ,please for canon lp .Thanks
I've been looking for more of the LP-E6 to NP adapter for ages and could not find them. THANK YOU!
No problem Barry!
Love DIY stuff nice video
Nice video Caleb. Keep them coming. Just need a powerpack solution to run my Canon M50 with a dummy battery on my Zhiyun Crane M3. Any ideas? Ray
You are amazing Caleb!
Don't know why I didn't think of this before. Excellent upload!

awesome diy tipp! thanks for videos like this, really helpful and I will watch out for the parts. thanks!
How long would my np-fw50 last, 5min? 😂
Haha! Would need an 8 bay adapter for it to make sense.
Always innovating!

I'd probably just get the NP-F and be done with it, but would definitely buy an adaptor for Panasonic VBR to NP-F .

If only you could partner with a manufacturer to build this part. Seems like it would be very cheap to produce and be an instant seller

I've only been using the 550 batteries so from a capacity perspective, I lose nothing by going with FZ-100 batteries.
