Its amazing that she has a hop instead of an extended X step, yet she is still one of the most elite players in the world. It shows that success can come from more than just the convential accepted ideas of what is ideal form
I believe Paige does something similar - saw it on an old DD form check video. It's always interesting to see the forms of pros and how, honestly, most of them "don't follow" what we chumps are taught/learn, cuz they figured out some other way that's highly successful. BH drives from Ricky and Catrina, for example - both have unconventional form in one way or another, but it doesn't seem to stop them absolutely crushing it.

Garret Gurthie also hops; I think the trick is not hopping so high that you waste the energy in vertical motion, but use it to add a little velocity which you immediately increase with the push off the rear leg.
@@stephencolegrove5254 I bet you're right! This is a cool sb22 vid. He talks about how certain body types may prefer more vertical vs horizontal, but likely a combination ruclips.net/video/WWr1bI-VMKI/видео.html Brinster definitely has crazy high hop lol
Ricky hops on high power shots too - to me the doing/watching a hop step is more intuitive for carrying forward momentum into my throw and has helped with those max distance shots
I find it interesting that she pumps the disc at the same time as her right foot going forward, instead of the left. I guess the small nuances don’t matter that much when you’re elite
@@philliplee8641 He doesn't, he teaches to pump at the same time as the back leg goes on the x step, which is the left. Which is exactly why I was confused when Kristin pumps on the right.
@@drew6051 yea that’s really late and causes her not to put full weight in her back foot. Apparently this how she found her timing. Page Pierce throws farther because she turns her shoulders more and puts more weight on her back foot, while keeping good timing.
She’s really late off her back foot, only getting forward deep in the swing. It’s very inefficient technique compared to someone like Paige, who is de-weighted deep in her backswing. The telltale sign is the inversion of the back knee, it indicates when the person’s weight has shifted forward into their front side.
Barsby and Gurthie putt weird. Some people have no forehand. inefficient is efficient if it's what brings you to the dance. You get good at what you do and if it's good enough then you can't really question it. Especially with a world #1.
@@obscurereference6298 Except we're not talking about putting, which has a lot more allowance for individual technique. When it comes to proper backhand form, de-weighting early is non negotiable. Without exception, all the male players who throw far are getting all their weight forward while their shoulders are still turned deep into the back swing. Paige is the only FPO player who does it super well, though Hailey King is exceptional too. Kristin isn't doing this, which means she's throwing mostly two-footed. When you throw two-footed, you have to move the ballast of your trailing side to throw, which massively curtails distance and efficiency. Every single disc golfer can benefit from more release velocity, especially the women. There is no such thing as "good enough" among professional players, you should always be trying to improve.
@@Thebrianweissman You're mistaking my comment as a defense of Kristin as opposed to you making the comment is funny since it's a total field flaw and you're here focusing on world #1. What if trying to revamp her shot messed up her timing? Maybe people down the field need to fix their games first and force Kristin to change. Don't mess with it if you dont have to.
It's totally irrelevant, as long as you're getting all your weight on your back foot so you can then shift it forward. The X-step helps you do this, while also keeping you balanced and allowing you to close off your stance into the plant stride. Kristin is doing all that, her main issue is that she's throwing two-footed.
@@Thebrianweissman Issue? She's throwing farther than almost anyone in the field and her technical shots are second to none. There's a reason she's clearly ranked #1 in the world
@@myerklamb8529 Her rating is still sub-1000. Just because she's successful against the current crop of female pros doesn't mean her form can't benefit from improvement. The recent Match Play event was won by a player who struggles to throw 300 feet. There is a lot of room for growth in the women's division.

Was coined the Brinster hop years ago, but on the European side I believe Seppo has had the hop in his throw since he was a young player
She's really really good
I've never noticed how she kinda hops her step. Interested in seeing how that works compared to my normal x-step.

Uli's channel has a series called "scratch to scratch" and on ep.1 he actually teaches to pump on the right. Check it out!

I guess being twice as strong does play into winning and throwing far as well.
