    When going through homes like this, it's vital that you search through everything before throwing anything out. My mother-in-law was doing a cleanout and found over $7K in cash hidden in a bunch of old plastic flower pots on the back porch. She was getting ready to throw them in a black trash bag when she noticed a white plastic bag stuffed in between them. Always... Always check everything!

      Yeah I've heard of people putting money in weird places when they're old and when their hoarders it is especially difficult finding it. I know family who found over a half a million dollars in their relatives house. The house was in such bad repair that they had to tear it down. But someone said we should go through everything and pull everything out and salvage what we can. They had antiques they had to take to auction. Which was a lot of money after it was sold on top of that they went through the books. Because when some books fell out money fell out so they start going through the books there were old money there silver certificates silver coins and jars tucked in boxes I swear by the time they were done they must have had a close to 1million dollars. Between antiques silver coins and old silver certificates. Plus they found a state paper with property that was being kept by the state that was some relatives property. I don't know what they all made but I know it was a very great sum a financial wealth. Now they didn't have the mind to go through all that and just tore the house down because it was in bad repair. Wow what a financial loss.

    You should probably get some N95 type masks if you’re going to be going through places like that. Those ‘surgical’ style masks do not protect against inhaled contaminants. They are only meant to protect against anything you might exhale and I doubt anything in there is in danger of catching something from you.

    This place reminds me of a place that my husband (and our kids) and I WERE going to rent at one time. We had just moved back to NJ from Florida and needed a place ASAP found a big old house (which I love old homes) for a decent rental price. It needed some cleaning but I was ok with that. So a few days before move in my Mom and I go there with every cleaning supply and instrument known to man (my Mom cleaned houses) we went to the kitchen, I opened the stove and about 1,000 roaches came running out!!!! We grabbed what little we had brought in and hightailed it out of there! Called the landlord (who swore he had already had an exterminator there) told him if he doesn’t get an exterminator there with my husband or myself there to verify we were calling the health department and we would only move in contingent that the problem is resolved! A few days later my husband meets the exterminator there and he tells my husband that, that place needs to be gutted and rebuilt, it is uninhabitable! Needless to say we wanted our deposit back and the landlord STILL tried to lie to us about the problem even though my husband saw it for himself and fought us on giving our money back! Anyways I don’t know what happened to the place after that but a few months later you could tell someone moved in there. Like I said the place (besides the roaches oh and mice and garden snakes) wasn’t terrible I mean it was dirty, full of cobwebs and the carpeting was pretty gross but it was old and I could see the potential with some love and care s I was kinda sad 😔

    The best days are when you come out with some great finds and you are filthy all over! This house is not disappointing. The military jacket is great. My folks' house had spaces below the closet like that (not as deep) with a false floor on top. For the family silver? I think I hid a report card in there once. I am not afraid of mice, rats, squirrels (as long as they don't come at me) or their droppings, but I am very afraid of munitions. It's amazing how often people find them (a friend of mine once found a box of old dynamite and took it to the fire station, not understanding it was unstable). I remember a movie where Bill Murray cleaned his living room or something with a backpack leaf blower (Caddyshack?). I think that should be your last step here. Except that you'd be putting dust, mold, poop and potentially hantavirus into the air. Other than that I think it's a good idea. Thanks for the video and have a great day! I guess I imagined that Memorial Flag I thought I saw in the first video.

    • @PaperandMoose
      @PaperandMoose  Год назад +6

      No, there was the flag - it originally was underneath the kitchen table on the floor, so I picked it up. I gather that it was an older relative's, not belonging to those that lived in the house recently. (My assumption is that this was a family home, parents passed away or downsized, and the grown children stayed in the house but failed to keep up with rent. Apologies if I previously replied with that same assumption!) We'll have to check out the closet floor, just in case!

    this looks like a cleanout will not solve the problem. the property should be bulldozed imo. hope you find something useful.

    Just a grenade for throwing practice. There is a hole in the bottom, I have one like that in my bookshelf myself. But I have broken the law and put the trigger mechanism on top. That is not legal in this country. I don't expect a police raid here anytime soon anyway.

      We haven't done too bad with selling things at the flea market. The other half of the house that I haven't worked in yet had a decent amount of hunting/fishing gear, so those were easy sellers at the flea market. The main profit is in the actual cleanout payment.
