@@donallmccrudden4812. My husband and I were talking about the same thing. In 75 or so years, we will be forgotten. Live your best life for yourself. No one else cares but you. I have researched the dead in our families cemeteries and think…”Would they have ever thought I would speak their names in 2024?” I feel like I’m reaching across time to connect…

@IrishAnnie chances are your grand children(if your lucky enough to have them) will be the last generation of your family to meet ya, so they be the last people in your family to have a living memory of ya, they'd probably talk to their kids or grandkids about ya, it's kinda odd to think about, but interesting. I personally remember meeting my great grandmother a decent amount my mother's mother's mother, she was a lovely lady, but had a tough, poor life on a farm in Ireland, she lost 7 kids, 6 died by 11, the last died aged 22, he drowned, so my granny was the only remaining kid, she passed when I was 6, so I didn't appreciate it as much as much at the time, unfortunately, she would have had plenty of stories from back in the day, her grandparents lived through the famine in Ireland

That is such a remarkable cemetery! So many of the trees add to the general character, (with the roots encompassing the markers and all)..some seem so old they may have been planted soon after the cemetery was established.
Could you tell us again what the difference is between vaults, crypts and mausoleums? Are there any others?
Thank you for bringing us along to this intriguing, enchanting, poignant cemetery.

A mausoleum is above ground. A crypt is usually under a church but very similar to a vault that is underground. A mausoleum is normally much bigger and more decorative, too

The amount of work done to keep this cemetery looking amazing is mind boggling! All of the repointing on the crypts! Some of the crypts that no family is left, maybe they could open some clean up and people could visit and remember them, just a thought! You are100% right, the History in here!! Such a magnificent cemetery.
    So well cared for.
I have lived across from a cemetery all my life. Have some relatives there. It’s 35 acres of interesting nooks and crannies. Mausoleum’s, ponds and streams but idk the last time they redid any of the roads.
We used to ice skate on the roads if it should rain then freeze when I was little.
Thank you for the wonderful tour!

Beautiful cemetery. Caretakers deserve a lot of credit for keeping up with the care. I can't imagine what it would cost now a days for the mausoleums. I enjoy traveling through the cemeteries with you.

I was very fortunate to visit there with a tour. There was just not enough time. I think I told GV this story. Our tour finished at Michael Collins grave. An elderly woman has laying flowers on his grave. Our guide asked if she was family. She answered that he was a neighbour. Her da was in jail in 1922 and Micheal would bring food to her family. On the day he was killed, he brought food. Her mother told her that on that day he held her..she was a baby in arms. She explained that when she visited Dublin she made a point of bringing flowers to his grave. History. I did touch Daniel's coffin.

So much land taken up by dead bodies. Makes an argument for cremation.
    It makes you think. 🤔
    Thanks Sue! My Goodness!
