10:20 is one of the proudest memes I've made, not sure if I can ever top it. Very scared of running out of Potter jokes down the line so if you have any super obscure ones drop a comment!
Your ability to perfectly match these wands to their resin ones is absolutely outstanding. Can't wait for all the wands to be made. You are a master wand maker. And we are glad to be able to see your work.😁
Sorry for your loss mate 😥 It's awesome that you have the connection to your grandpa through your work. Keep up the awesome work and keep him close with you.
Best one yet. I love the incorporation of a real knot instead of faking it. That way, the grain matches how it would really flow around a real knot (because it is real).
I think that where it went wrong with the steel wool and vinegar is you sealed it off inside of a jar. If you had let it get more oxygen by leaving the lid off and allowed the steel wool to rust more it might have worked better. It's the rust in the vinegar mixture that helps it stain oak. You did do a pretty good job making a close copy of the wand you were going for.
These are a lot of fun to watch. The little edits you throw in here and there are really clever, and it's obvious you're really enjoying what you do. Great work, man. Keep 'em comin'.
You are doing your grandpa proud, I think he would be very pleased with where you are taking what he helped start. You now I seem to have missed something in the other builds, this is the first one where Ive seen you put a core in a wand, so Im off to have a look for more now. This is a very cool share ...thankyou
Such an incredibly passionate wand maker! Seeing you work with the unpredictable and luck with different woods is a sight to see! Best of luck on the next project/vid, you really are worth of being Ollivander’s apprentice
I work picture frame shop and we occasionally use ebonizing solution on walnut frames. It’s a really cool finish and a ton of fun to use, but every wood reacts different since it’s a chemical reaction, white oak seems to turn a sort of grey while walnut properly ebonizes and turns nearly black, some woods don’t react at all Side note, the solution is usually a dark yellow color and turns paper towels pinkish strangely enough
Sorry for your loss. I hope he'd be proud of this one. I like it a lot. The rougher texture you gave it with the brush looks more realistic and authentic to me. BTW, I think the ebonizing solution may have failed due to an oil or wax protectorant on the steel wool. Maybe iron nails would work better.
When making ebonizing solution, make sure to fully wash and strip the protective oil from the steel wool first before putting it in vinegar. It also helps if you use higher concentration vinegar such as cleaning vinegar rather than cooking vinegar. You might also have to wait for 6 days for it to get to a better concentration, but I think the reason it didn’t break down at all in 3 days was due to the steel wool still having oil on it as a barrier to the vinegar These videos are some of my favorite on all of RUclips, not only because of the excellent craftsmanship and love put into every wand, but how you show figuring out the entire process and your great sense of humor. I’ll be here for the whole journey and I can’t wait to see more wands, they are works of art!
Every time I’m blown away. You’re so talented, and these videos are the best! They’re interestingly informative, clever and funny, and just overall cool 😎. Thank you for making them.
alastor moody probably one of the strongest, Ex-Auror's and member of the order, he's a highly skilled versatile wizard when it comes to defense quick reaction, and fighting off dark wizards, he may no longer be an auror, but did he still kick ass though, unfortunate that he died though, but hey can't deny he was one the best if not greatest wizards at his day and age, a shame we didn't get more of him, we technically did when Jr. disguised himself as moody, and a little bit in order of the phenix, deathly hallows pt.1 Either way, awesome work, you pulled this wand off amazingly and honestly I like mad eyes wand alot, just the way it looks XP
That problem that makes you manually start your drill press is likely a failing condenser/starter. I have one that works the same way! Watching you deal with the pewter rings and the mortise/tenon joints reminds me of the process we use to make tobacco pipes, which frequently have decorative rings at joints, while the pipes use mortises and tenons to keep the bowl and the stem in perfect alignment. You might also find it useful to study the textures used to hide blemishes on tobacco pipes. Many of them would make cool wands! There's a big difference between the way we make tobacco pipes, though: most of us use metal lathes, rather than wood lathes, even though we are working mostly with wood. The movement of the tool holder on a metal lathe allows us much more perfect joints than a hand-held tool does. You might find it instructive to watch a few pipemaking videos! Here's an example. He makes the accent ring from wood instead of pewter, but the process is the same. ruclips.net/video/kViWn3ON0Ww/видео.html
Just a tip on making vinegaroon- leave the steel wool in the vinegar until it fully dissolves. It can take a week or so. Best to keep it someplace warm as the reaction goes slowly when colder. Don’t try heating it like on a stove to hurry it up as that just drives off the acetic acid. Other than that, terrific effort.
Hello! I am a huge fan of your work! Around Easter I have actually tried making your Arthur Weasley wand myself on my lathe and it turned out pretty good if I say so myself.😊 (But not as good as yours of course)
The way the wood looks in the replica makes me think of a Shillelagh (Blackthorn cane). I would have went with Blackthorn for his wand just on the knob and the colors they went with but that is my personal opinion.
These videos never disappoint. Beautiful craftsmanship as always. Like you said, it was destined for you to use that stick as material for a girthy and rugged wand like Moody's. Seeing you display forging skills with the pewter was also impressive. I may have missed it, but have you always incorporated the core in your wands? I'm trying to recall if I've seen you do it in other videos.
Supposedly the noble collections version of this wand is scaled up for display purposes, which is evident when you compare it to the size in the movies. Regardless, your work is amazing.
@@garricksapprentice I'd love if you could do another more movie accurate version, I love your videos and that one would be one to watch. Can't wait to see what you're working on next!
I found your channel a couple days ago and have almost finished watching all your videos and they have been so enjoyable to watch. I can’t wait for when you make Harry or Hermione’s wands as they’re a couple of my favourites besides the Elder wand!
I love your videos and there's a wand that really blows my mind, this is Alecto Carrow's, she's a very minor character but she has a beautiful wand, could you make it please? I haven't found out what wood it's made of and from the color I think you could make it out of black walnut. Thank you very much.
I don’t know anything about wood staining but quite a lot about colour theory, so what would happen if you stain it twice to get the proper undertones? Since stain isn’t opaque, in my mind it might work?
The black package probably contains spruce, the one you’re waiting for might be dogwood, and Horace Slughorn’s wand is, interestingly enough, made of cedar. (If you’re ever thinking of making Charlie Weasley’s current wand, my bet would be on chestnut.)
Excellent video love the wands the reason why your Ebonising solution didn't work is because you need to use apple cider vinegar it's a stronger acid and the wood needs to have tanning in it so you can also buy and make your own tanin solution using almond leaves or brewers tanin powder another and quicker way of Ebonising is to use Indian ink
Yeah need to experiment a bit more! All I could find online was 'white vinegar' but couldn't find any. Oak has lots of tannin in it so I've seen it turn black almost instantly..but stains are okay currently!
Fred's wand is going to have reed, isn't it? I've always been curious about that one, since it's my birthwood and I eventually want to make a wand from that
So Fred, George and Slughorn are next huh? Well I’ll say this, good luck with those ones, especially Fred’s wand (the pine-cone like one) cause that handle looks like it’s going to be a nightmare to make without risking snapping some of them off multiple times George is probably easiest, though the broomstick shape might take a bit of time And as for Slughorn, I’m sure you’ve got something special planned for the slug head and the wavy, bendy shaft right, but I actually own a Slughorn wand replica at home and the shaft is probably the skinniest one of the bunch
Hopefully yes but we'll see! All 3 have a fair bit of detail so I'll put extra effort into those edits! I hoped to do Fred/George for April fools day but that was very optimistic!
Fred’s wand is definitely not pine because the wandlore doesn’t line up at all, but spruce or fir sounds like could have suited him quite nicely, and it looks more like a spruce cone than a pine cone anyway.

You have to add a tea bag to get the best results for a good wood stain

As long as it’s not pine, because pine chooses the long-lived, and the detailing looks far more like spruce than pine anyway.
I called those little bumps around the end of the wand warts in my opinion cuz they're a pain in the ass just as much as real warts lol.

Not next!
His wand looks as if it's intended to look like a blackthorn cane or club
Fun Fact: Its actually a reboot design of his wand. The original design looks like a blackish grey.
