Amazing video JMA!! ^^ Snowfall's book is one of my favorites because of her development, literally going from wanting to slap some common sense into Snowfall (even though I could understand why she was like that), to rooting for her when she changed the ice kingdom for good! It was just a really satisfying change, and I know it's not one of the most highly rated books in the series, it will forever be among the top of my favorites list because of the great experience I had reading it, as it was the first book I read without spoilers! ^^
Not only was the character development amazing, but so is this video I feel like I could watch it over and over again and no get bored. Everything in this video fit in perfectly, the animations that went with the character development (very talented artist who made that animation btw) , the way you verbally and visually explained every thing to keep us capitavated but not distracted. Amazing vid Jma 10/10 would recommend. Great job Jma you really have come so far!
Both Harry Potter and WOF on one video (some of my favorite book Series) AND a detailed explanation that is not difficult to follow!? WOW amazing video!
As a writer I love videos about story analysis but was always sad the wing of fire community was too small to have stuff like this. Now, you made this, and my week is made! Great job!
I'm glad! If that's the case, you may also enjoy "The Art of Cliffhanging" and "How this kid's series did what $100,000,000 projects couldn't" videos if you haven't already seen them :D
I had the lowest of expectations for Book 14 when it was announced because of the POV being Snowfall. After reading, it is one of my very favorite books in this franchise and 50% of that is thanks to Snowfall's phenomenal character development.
Jam!!! I could honestly use this as an English lesson in a school setting, I learnt sm abt writing fictional characters :) Ur super smart and deserve ur success!!
I love loud effects in the heart of the mountain, as the vibrations cause avalanches which is kinda sick ngl 0 cap. I am not playing with you, avalanches are kinda cool because the powdered solidify-ed water is falling off, kinda like how eminem fell off 0 cap (also kinda like how Ruth Kiske in 1995 fell off the zipline, plummenting 140 meters to his death, which I may or may not have sabotaged for a hefty $50,000). Truly a moment in time that has occured.
AWOOOO!!! 😊 HAPPY 1-YEAR ANNIVERSARY TO YOUR CHANNEL JADY-BOI!!! ❤️ 💜 🔥 THIS WAS A DRAG-TASTIC VIDEO AS ALWAYS ME MATE!!! Not to mention, I watched it together with my good amigo, @Deliverance and Dragons. He enjoyed the video as well!!! We loved it, man! 😍 😛🤘🥰
Character development be like... Snowfall: amazing Zuko: ICONIC Winter: nonexistent😪 Happy one year anniversary JMA! You've come so far in such a short time. Going back and rewatching that first video, it's obvious how much more comfortable you are with speaking on camera and sharing your WOF opinions with us now. So glad this channel got recommended to me a few months ago, and I can't wait to see where we end up at this time in 2024! 50 k maybe??? 👀
@@TrickyTalon23 that's basically my entire problem with Winter. Yes, he's changed a lot by book 14, but the majority of the development happens off screen. So, the readers aren't really invited along for the ride. We just have to assume that he grew up and calmed down as a result
@@TrickyTalon23 agreed. I wouldn't be so upset if Winter had just stuck around for the book 10 climax. Instead it feels like Tui unceremoniously whisked him off to the Ice Kindom because she couldn't figure out how to resolve the love triangle. Don't get me wrong, Moonbli is great, but it just feels so sloppily concluded.
This helps a lot. I am a small author, sort of- and I absolutely love wings of fire and warrior cats. I have SO many ocs (original characters) like Coppercut, Streak, Thrust, Moth, Sapphireshard, Fallenleaf, Sparrowspot, Sweetstem, and like probably ninety more. I love to write little paragraphs about thier backstories, and I love to spill out all the emotions I’m feeling into some depressing backstory of Mossmist’s or Shred’s. Shred is the one I put all anger and gruesome thoughts into, Mossmist the depression and sadness. I have so, so; so many ideas and honestly making ocs helps me feel way better! I have a whole notebook full of name ideas, even. My friends probably get bored when I start to explain all the lore behind Sharpblood or Blazefire or Calix. Snowfall is also a very underrated character. If you read til here you get a fun fact: Kinkajou won’t be getting her own book, even though she is Tui’s fav character, because Tui thinks she is developed enough and is right where she should be.
So this is basically your channel’s one year anniversary. I remember how I found you by your Book 15 video. You had posted The Art of Cliffhanging video like 2-3 months earlier I think. You certainly have come a long way!🎉🎉🎉🎉
best lecture i've had today. Also, fun character development story from my POV (Minecraft Storymode Spoilers!): Before I played MSS, I heard the character, Lucas, was bad and mean and absolutely crap. And once I finished the first episode, I thought, 'yeah they're right'. But the more we (my sister and I shared the experience) played, the deeper Lucas' character got and the more real he seemed. Between his insecurities to be weak to his self-doubt and blame for something going wrong, I began to pity him. By the end of season 1, Lucas went from the bratty leader to a supportive ally sending himself forward and honing on his abilities to find what he wants to actually do in the beginning of season 2. As much as I love the WoF storytelling, I think this deserves to be a good example put out there, even if it's cliche or mediocre compared to Zuko, Snape and Snowfall.
A good Snowfall character review? "I can see you're only interested in the exceptionally rare!" But, as always, amazing video! You bring up fantastic points and I agree with practically everything you say. :) All three characters have great development, and you know how to point out the expertise behind these characters. Happy 1 year anniversary! ^^
Happy first anniversary! You certainly have come such a long ways in making your videos in just a single year! I had to stop and play some bits back at .75x speed to really get some solid notes as you did a wonderful job at piecing together everything perfectly and concisely I had to pick it apart! Getting more tools in my kit as I keep chippin away at my novel is fantastic, and this really is just the PERFECT way to set up character development. And the supplemental videos! Aaaah!!! That animation vid you pulled from was perfect! And the examples of Snape and Zuko for the two main types of character growth are PERFECT! Snape doesn't really ever seem to change much, but our perspective of him DOES, but man Zuko goes through hell and back, (Literally. Fire nation? Firey pit?) This video really is the perfect testimant to how far you've come!
This is going to help me so, so much with writing!! It was explained so well, used great (and some of my favorite) examples, kept me engaged, and was super awesome!!! You run an awesome channel :D
very intriguing video. I really agreed with and liked your point about how character development, in order to be great and satisfying, must be tied to the plot and themes of the series. Imo, the thing wings of fire does best is exploring characters, and showing the true and authentic versions of them, taking of each layer one at a time until the true dragon beneath is revealed. This goes even more amazingly with its themes of trust and compassion. It really makes a great series. I explained my idea very poorly, but comments help the algorithm, so ill just post it anyways, you deserve every view and sub you get, and definitely many more
i LOVE THIS VIDEO, and once my braincells were filled with all the knowledge that you threw in my face, it all ended lightly with a beautiful little outro with some fancy music. i luv this (and you, of course)
Book 14 is one of my favourites. It does strangely not include any Pyrrhian content in the appendix, but that doesn't affect the story, it's just weird.
Thanks so much for the amazing literary analysis you present in this video. It is oddly similar to the way I map out character arcs in my own series. Well done! =)
Someone I like to bring up as a great example for revealatory development is Brom from the Eragon books (spoilers ahead for Eragon, Eldest and Brisingr) sure, this guy basically doesn't change at all during these books (at least not in the present time of the books, he did change a lot before the books started), but the reader's perception of him changes drastically throughout the story. He starts out as being seen as some random village story teller with little plot relevance (even if he know and shares stories the king disapproves of), then he decides to tag along when Eragon and Saphira head out to hunt down the Razac and is clearly more adventures and more plot relevant the he seemed, then it turns out he can use a sword and is damm good at it and it becomes clear that he definatly is more than a storyteller, then it turns out he can use magic for whatever reason, in Tyrm it's revealed that he has some kind of conncection to the secret rebell group, then he gets stabed and with his dieing breath reveals that he was a Dragon rider, but his Dragon was killed. the interesting part is that his character development is far from over with his death. In the next book it turns out he actually created the secret rebell group and that he used to admire some villian guy, who later killed his Dragon causing him to become his personal nemesis, who he manages to kill later (but still before the books). Yet another book later Brom turns out to be Eragons dad and we get the story of his love with said villian guy's wife... of course this entire thing is very oversimpliefied and probably makes little sense when you don't know the books, but my point is this guy's revelatory character development went on two and a half books beyong his death.
I only ever read the first two (and half of the third) WoF books but despite my love of dragons (and knowing Tui had been a part of the Warriors team), I couldn't properly get into them. That being said, I still love your videos as they're very informative and help me as a writer myself
I LOVE CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT, OH MY GOD Literally, almost all of my favorite characters have undergone some sort of huge character development. Series without character development is boring. Which is why, as much as I want to be a writer, I could never. I just cannot go that deep.
Tbh Lynx reminds me so much of Qibli, I can IMAGINE them working together to completely annoying the heck out of Winter and many other dragons in the series (Like so Jade Mountain Archive sees this)
I can imagine they kidnap queen wasp who can no longer see and just annoy the heck out of her as she tries to hit them but always can’t, actually that might be a little cruel but eh, she would deserve it
Before I even read the title I knew what it was about when I saw Snowfall, Zuko and Snape I think another good character with development is Doctor Doofenshmirtz. He wasn't exactly a bad guy but he still became a fan favorite and ended up doing more good than bad overall and with the new seasons of phineas and ferb it looks like we'll be seeing more of him.
ABSOLUTE PERFECTION. LOVE THE DETAILED EXPLANATIONS and the end music. Absolutely benefited from dis video. I learned so much more. You never cease to surprise me with knowledge of writing and WoF. I never thought so cd live WoF more, but you made me love it more with every video of urs. I just wonder, do u think Tui planned it out from the start. Did she plan the ice wall to play a role in book 14 by letting Snowfall break it down? Like from when the wall was first reviewed a few books b4 I think.?❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤🎉🎉
Interesting question! I think she probably did not have Snowfall's arc in mind when she first introduced the Ice Wall but likely had the ending of Snowfall's book planned out before writing the beginning. That's my guess anyway.
This summarizes in part why I felt like the Darkness of Dragons climax kinda fell flat. Qibli had a decent development in his desire to become an animus, but he's essentially the same character he is at the beginning of the arc. You can't say the same about Turtle or Winter or Moon, who are all pretty different from the characters first introduced in Book 6. Aside from other issues I have (Kinkajou's deus ex machina strawberry undercutting a possible villain redemption plotline, the supporting cast not having enough to do, a love subplot that feels more like a footnote, and a major character being unceremoniously written out of the climax) it feels like after so much buildup it just suddenly ends. The epilogue kinda makes up for it, but that's like getting a lollipop after being told you have a terminal illness.
I'm working on a different recurring series right now (hoping to release the first video in a couple weeks!) and once that one finishes up I'll make some more tier lists :D
I’m gonna be the dumbass in the comments that no one likes, so prepare thyself I honestly loved Snowfall’s book, especially when I think back on it, the book as a whole (disregarding individual characters even tho that is literally what it’s trying to push) is really a calm before the storm Book 11-13 were the exposition of the dystopia that is Pantala then the rising action, and just as we’re reaching the climax… Book 14 It forces you to calm down, to realize that yes, it’s a fantasy book and wars are the usual thing, especially since that’s how the other two arcs were formatted (more or less), but it brings new yet old ideas to the table Solving a war/incoming conflict peacefully? Cold-hearted character that’s actually just traumatized? Drama? Intrigue? All included in 14 but presented differently In 15, they tried talking with Wasp while captured, didn’t work Snowfall’s an IceWing, so was Winter They were raised in the same society, have the same sort of trauma/oppression, but Winter and Snowfall developed differently And the twists were so good, even when they did but didn’t serve the plot You weren’t expected Crystal, an IceWing, to be interested in someone from a different tribe You weren’t expecting Thorn, the past leader of the Outclaws and now SandWing Queen, to be a motherly fill in for Glacier so she could support Snowfall Now for the things I didn’t like Snowfall destroying the rank wall and dragons forming relations with scavengers Don’t get me wrong, Snowfall destroying the Racism Crown and the Great Ice Wall were enjoyable The crown for obvious reasons and the wall because they were so separated from the rest of the continent, which wasn’t great But the rank wall was one of the foundational pillars of IceWing society, which we didn’t get to see a lot of! And yes, you can argue that it isn’t good to be in competition beginning day 1, but that’s what made the IceWings unique, what made their society interesting Now you can also argue “hey, they’ve got their other animus gifts, stop wanting more dragons to be oppressed because of that wall” And uhh….no I’m gonna be the bitch everyone hates and say that the rank wall honestly should’ve stayed I care not if it symbolized something greater or that you don’t want our little popsicle babies to have self worth issues These are dragons They’ve said multiple times in arc 1 that it’s natural for dragons to fight for anything and everything I don’t care if I sound horrible, that’s my honest opinion I think the way we empathize with them is making us think that they’re exactly like us, the readers They’re not It’s great you empathize with them, that means it’s fantastic story telling, but when we transitioned to arc 2, it felt like we lost the fact of “these are dragons” Even in arc 3 when they made peace with the scavengers Why? Because in fantasy books like these, humans aren’t supposed to matter this much Although Wren finding Sky was cute, I just can’t with the way the other dragons and scavengers have made peace I just…. It really rubbed me the wrong way Anyways, my ranting is over Have a wonderful day or night, wherever you are in this beautiful world!
@@Hack_rJack actually I’ve written opinionated essays before for school, and they were much longer, had cited sources, and had in depth analysis This was a baby in comparison for wat I’ve done for English classes But thank you!
I did NOT like Snowfall when I started the book. I was, initially, kinda disappointed she was the protagonist. But! Just like you said, the more I learned about why she was the way she was, and watching her change over the course of the story, she's honestly one of my favorites now. Right up there with the good sandy boy Qibli.
I’ll be real, when I first read book 14 I didn’t like Snowfall because of her hate towards nightwings, but once I read on more and also discovered the crown was the reason for hating nightwings, I loved her character.
Book 14 was a really weird reading experience for me because I just found it extremely difficult to like or empathize with Snowfall. Even when knowing her inner workings and all the hardships thrown at her, I just couldn’t bring myself to like her. I found myself wishing I was reading from Hazel’s perspective instead cause I was way more interested in her than Snowfall. Hazel or Jerboa, because Boa’s flashbacks were the only part of the book I thoroughly enjoyed. Snowfall spent the book being rude to Lynx and everyone else, and by the time she had developed, the damage had been done for me. I couldn’t get invested in her arc so I didn’t like her by the end of it, to which her fully developed seemed generic to me. Clearly not everyone else thinks this way though. I really think it’s just a matter of preference for me, especially when you lay out the pieces like that.
Harry Potter, Wings of Fire, and Avatar in one video? This must be heaven!
They're such great series :D
add Warriors
@@kelpwing don’t add warriors; it can become a hellhole O_O

Trueee! Brom is a fantastic example of revelatory development.
Nice video! Character development is really important in wings of fire
Congrats for having your channel for 1 year!
I only ever read the first two (and half of the third) WoF books but despite my love of dragons (and knowing Tui had been a part of the Warriors team), I couldn't properly get into them. That being said, I still love your videos as they're very informative and help me as a writer myself
This was so helpful on figuring out how she (tui) and other books so that
This video was great! Love seeing how you’ve improved
Epic as always I love these analysis videos so much!
You know it's a god day when JMA posts
My dream one day is to right a book series like this one but way darker
14 is like one of the best books!
Character development was a slap in the face for starflight
I LOVE CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT, OH MY GOD
Literally, almost all of my favorite characters have undergone some sort of huge character development.
Series without character development is boring.
Which is why, as much as I want to be a writer, I could never. I just cannot go that deep.
I can't believe he only has 20k, this is amazing
Humble hmm yes very humble little start into big Qibli man.
Darn it I missed a JMA video. The Ralph fans are gonna hunt me down. Gotta bounce!
This was a good watch, thank you for this :)
Tbh Lynx reminds me so much of Qibli, I can IMAGINE them working together to completely annoying the heck out of Winter and many other dragons in the series (Like so Jade Mountain Archive sees this)
I see all. They totally would hahaha
I can imagine they kidnap queen wasp who can no longer see and just annoy the heck out of her as she tries to hit them but always can’t, actually that might be a little cruel but eh, she would deserve it
Before I even read the title I knew what it was about when I saw Snowfall, Zuko and Snape
I think another good character with development is Doctor Doofenshmirtz. He wasn't exactly a bad guy but he still became a fan favorite and ended up doing more good than bad overall and with the new seasons of phineas and ferb it looks like we'll be seeing more of him.
Great video you are amazing. What am I supposed to say Happy Anniversary? I’ll go with that awesome video
Ahhhhhh this is great! I do have to wonder if this is the direction we're heading with Teal though....🤨
Hahahaha, there will indeed be a mix of revelatory and developmental change in that particular story line. Gotta practice what I preach, you know?
i never thought about that before 🤔
i remember when i first watched one of ur vids
Well since the captions seem to think JMA is a jam, I wonder what flavor he would be?🧐
Strawberry hahaha
@@JadeMountainArchive excellent choice… said everyone but Darkstalker👀
Snowfall is actually my favorite Wings of Fire character. Her story is so good.
OHMAGOD YOU DID IT
YOU ACTUALLY DID IT
Also I just realized my fanfic is thin af and I need to heavily edit it
Also also I just realized that in discord (which I don't use anymore) I had my status set to "offbrand qibli" How accurate I was.
I know I sound like Jma rn but my fav character dev is Qibli's because he goes from abused insecure child to confident hero/sandwimh
*sandwing*
Congrats on 20k! (Also does this mean QNA part 2???)
At 25k :D
WHOA WHOA WHOA QNA CONFIRMED, THANKS LAKA
@@soggybread9513 he confirmed self portrait too at 25k
@@laka7007 well duh we already knew that, also are there any updates on the artwork?
@@soggybread9513 None so far
Why does he not have at least over 100,000 subscribers after one year? He deserves way more than this!
Hahaha, I'm glad you enjoy the content!
hi jma! keep up the good work! when will the next tier list video be?
I'm working on a different recurring series right now (hoping to release the first video in a couple weeks!) and once that one finishes up I'll make some more tier lists :D
@@JadeMountainArchive horary! hopefully this new series is just as good
I’m gonna be the dumbass in the comments that no one likes, so prepare thyself
I honestly loved Snowfall’s book, especially when I think back on it, the book as a whole (disregarding individual characters even tho that is literally what it’s trying to push) is really a calm before the storm
Book 11-13 were the exposition of the dystopia that is Pantala then the rising action, and just as we’re reaching the climax…
Book 14
It forces you to calm down, to realize that yes, it’s a fantasy book and wars are the usual thing, especially since that’s how the other two arcs were formatted (more or less), but it brings new yet old ideas to the table
Solving a war/incoming conflict peacefully?
Cold-hearted character that’s actually just traumatized?
Drama?
Intrigue?
All included in 14 but presented differently
In 15, they tried talking with Wasp while captured, didn’t work
Snowfall’s an IceWing, so was Winter
They were raised in the same society, have the same sort of trauma/oppression, but Winter and Snowfall developed differently
And the twists were so good, even when they did but didn’t serve the plot
You weren’t expected Crystal, an IceWing, to be interested in someone from a different tribe
You weren’t expecting Thorn, the past leader of the Outclaws and now SandWing Queen, to be a motherly fill in for Glacier so she could support Snowfall
Now for the things I didn’t like
Snowfall destroying the rank wall and dragons forming relations with scavengers
Don’t get me wrong, Snowfall destroying the Racism Crown and the Great Ice Wall were enjoyable
The crown for obvious reasons and the wall because they were so separated from the rest of the continent, which wasn’t great
But the rank wall was one of the foundational pillars of IceWing society, which we didn’t get to see a lot of!
And yes, you can argue that it isn’t good to be in competition beginning day 1, but that’s what made the IceWings unique, what made their society interesting
Now you can also argue “hey, they’ve got their other animus gifts, stop wanting more dragons to be oppressed because of that wall”
And uhh….no
I’m gonna be the bitch everyone hates and say that the rank wall honestly should’ve stayed
I care not if it symbolized something greater or that you don’t want our little popsicle babies to have self worth issues
These are dragons
They’ve said multiple times in arc 1 that it’s natural for dragons to fight for anything and everything
I don’t care if I sound horrible, that’s my honest opinion
I think the way we empathize with them is making us think that they’re exactly like us, the readers
They’re not
It’s great you empathize with them, that means it’s fantastic story telling, but when we transitioned to arc 2, it felt like we lost the fact of “these are dragons”
Even in arc 3 when they made peace with the scavengers
Why?
Because in fantasy books like these, humans aren’t supposed to matter this much
Although Wren finding Sky was cute, I just can’t with the way the other dragons and scavengers have made peace
I just….
It really rubbed me the wrong way
Anyways, my ranting is over
Have a wonderful day or night, wherever you are in this beautiful world!
This is beyond an essay (I read the whole thing btw)
@@Hack_rJack actually I’ve written opinionated essays before for school, and they were much longer, had cited sources, and had in depth analysis
This was a baby in comparison for wat I’ve done for English classes
But thank you!
@@SimWings I don’t think I would be able to read that then
Happy Anniver
unrelated but cliffhanger would be an amazing nightwing name
trueeeeeeeeeeeeee
I did NOT like Snowfall when I started the book. I was, initially, kinda disappointed she was the protagonist. But! Just like you said, the more I learned about why she was the way she was, and watching her change over the course of the story, she's honestly one of my favorites now. Right up there with the good sandy boy Qibli.
Great job! I subbed at 10k! your channel has been amazing so far, keep it up
JMA doing math *gets Qibli as his answer* “ wow I got it right”
video's still amaze me-
I’ll be real, when I first read book 14 I didn’t like Snowfall because of her hate towards nightwings, but once I read on more and also discovered the crown was the reason for hating nightwings, I loved her character.
Yeah, I also found it very difficult to read at first. I respected her more by the end though.
snowfall became my favorite character because of her character development lol
Tsunami and Winters character development exists: (Tui) “What is that”
Zuko is so iconic all the copycats will never be like him
Definitely one of the greatest written animated characters of all time
"The highest form of praise is imitation."
I highly doubt this came out 16 seconds ago RUclips
It's certainly possible hahaha - had to come out at some point right?
Another great series (tv show) that has amazing character development is shera and the princess of power
Catradora is one of my favorite ships in media because of how well it's built hahaha
Why isn't JAM an English teacher? This is so useful!
I'm glad you enjoy it!
