Without question Taylor Townsend is arguably one of the best doubles players in the world. No matter who she is paired with doesn’t matter. She is exceptional! Equally Dolehides hands at the net are exquisite! Well done ladies!!!
It’s not arguable. She was once ranked in the top 5 of doubles. But that’s really not saying much because the caliber of doubles play today is jarringly low. Most of these ladies don’t know how to play doubles so we end up with a lot of weird points and WTF moments.
Taylor is one of the most physically skilled players on tour today. She does just about everything well and can go toe to toe with the best players in the world. However, her shot selection in crucial moments borders on bizarre sometimes. That suggests that she’s mentally standing in her own way.
A few years ago, Pat McEnroe and the USTA tried to pin her down. Get her fit, to stop rushing, and to think on court. She objected to the idea of having to get in shape and suggested there was fat shaming and racial undertones in the USTA wanting to help her. Ironically, after giving birth, she now talks about her commitment to fitness. SMH
If Taylor ever decides to get out of her own way, she could be GREAT in both singles and doubles.
she's also an amazing singles player, I see her climbing the rankings this year, check her last matches, she held it down and almost won against really good tough players. and she's so fun to watch
