My wife is Thai. She has been sending money home, but she not once asked me to send any. She worked 4 jobs after she moved here and has a great job now compared to where she started. She is the strongest most reliable woman I have ever met and I am lucky to have her in my life. Not all Thai women are gold diggers or bar girls. As for the fighting, good luck winning that one, they are ferocious.
It's pretty simple... Don't expect to move to another country and think they will sacrifice their identity and culture to make you feel comfortable. If you expect to live as an American in Thailand, you won't be happy. Live like a Thai and you will be happy. Mai bpen rai. 😊
That's right Chris, it's America that does that. Folks come to America and give them everything they want, and if they're denied anything the individual that denied them is labeled a racist.
Great video and thank you for encouraging my wife and myself to take it to the next level in life, to take the risk and commit to the adventure. I am 72 years old my wife is 65 years old and your videos are Inspiration for us to continue an adventurous lifestyle. We've traveled to 35 countries and by seeing how you take on the challenges has given us the courage to do things that we have not felt comfortable doing. The bottom line we are getting out of the comfort zone. What advice would you give us? You're doing it and thank you for what you're doing it is appreciated all.Jerry & Lori
My man... I'm Thai... you had me when you said "You really don't want to pick the fight with Thai women..." My wife own everything I had even before we got marry. Thai women mostly control family budget. If not, she will talk to you to the death...... ha haa....
@@peterveldman9073 We only stayed for 4 days and it was enough. In Pattaya they have really good tourist attractions like Nong Nooch Garden and Sanctuary of Truth and many others but the beach area and the walking street are totally nuts! Not mentioning that the ocean is so polluted you can't go for a dip. I found other parts of Thailand magical but def not Pattaya.
If you want something beautiful, you should go for something beautiful. If you go to bad things, you have bad things. All countries are good and bad. Sometimes you already know what you are going to find. But it's not Thailand, it's like seeing the whole country. Not good in the whole country and not bad in the whole country. I am Thai, I am happy to be Thai. Do not despise our country for some comments.
True kha ! we are the one Thai people and we know what we do ในตัวบุคคล The whole world both good way and bad way It depends on where we will go to look for or enjoy in bad way or good way
Thailand is NOT the same as every other country, England for example, we would never allow prostitution , Thailand is a 3rd world country, same as Cambodia, Laos etc,. No where is like Thailand.
@@marukomax8688 and in another a never ended war on drugs with a a decent enough portion of the police force brutalizing citizens. Every country has in issue. Fucked up shit happens every where. but that gives depth to people who see it for what it is. might as well see all the people very different from the people in usa
Awesome thanks for sharing. For me, there's more pro than con, to live in Thailand. I first lived in Thailand 45 years ago and I have seen so much change and still love the place.
I lived in Thailand in 72-73. It was a really bad time. First thing that happened was I made friends with a guy whose father's company was digging a well for the apartment building I lived in. After the well was finished, when they had the water tested, it was no good since they'd dug the well about twenty feet away from a filthy, polluted canal (klong). Since I was a foreigner, I was accused of being in league with evil spirits, angering everyone's dead ancestors, offending "god", corrupting local people and that's why the water was no good. It was all my fault. From that point on, people were cursing me daily calling me filthy names and even spitting at me. Any time anything happened in the building ( elevator breaks down or a storm comes up and a window gets slammed shut and the glass breaks) it was my fault. It was my last year of high school. The school had a gate that would be closed so only one or two students could pass through at a time. Anyone who was "too western" which meant your hair was too long (for males) or you were wearing blue jeans or some other "evil" western clothing~ well, you'd be sent home. The school had a huge fence around it topped with barbed wire and we used to joke it was to keep us in, not to keep thieves out. I left in September 73 and the following month the October Revolution hit. Remember the guy I made friends with whose father was digging a well for the apartment building. He was a cool guy and didn't buy into all the hate from others and had introduced me to some friends of his who attended Bangkok University and were members of the Democracy movement. They were dragged out and killed. One of the guys I knew - his photo was on the cover of either Time or Newsweek magazine -I can't remember which one. They had dragged him out and hung him with wire around his neck and then people had lined up for a block or two to take turns beating his dead body with a folding chair. That's what I experienced in Thailand 45 years ago. And that's just some of it- not all.
I had no idea it was like that. I thought it just would've been more relaxed and peaceful and less annoying. I thought maybe it would've been something like I see Laos today. Thanks for sharing that.
Exactly in three months I never touched drugs, never had a relationship of any kind with a Thai ladies whom I treated with utmost respect, always was careful to respect local customs, never was engaged in road rage, never drank alcohol and had wonderful even mystical experiences.I am tired of videos by western men basically telling others how to pick up women or live debauched lives whilst living in Asia.
LMAO that face and sound you made at 2:45 about the monkeys and the rabies made me laugh super hard, you should cut that and edit it in randomly into your videos and stuff as a reaction shot. hahahaha
So why are you insulting people you have never been in touch with ? Your first comment had shown you obviously had been there since you already have such a deep offensive opinion on it. The only low IQ people I've seen are racist and judgemental. Guess we found one here.
When I was 20 I took a year off Uni and went to India (I'm now 50). I've spent three months there back then and I have been there twice since then. I went to Thailand for a month last year for a month and I'm returning in a week to spend another month there. Trust me! Thailand is a walk in the park!!
I've been to thailand about 6 or 7 times. in many ways its a great place with beautiful scenery and amazing temples but anyone thinking its the "land of smiles" is about 20 or 30 years out of date I suspect. i got the impression that most thais in the tourists areas are sick and tired of foreigners (in some cases with good reason i'm sure). i also thought a lot of thais in those areas are a bit bossy, bit confrontational, bit rude. thailand was probably the place to be back in the 70s or 80s, if you're looking for sweet gentle smiling buddhist types - either find another country that hasn't yet been overrun with tourists or get well and truly off the beaten track in thailand.
Ali--- sir i was back in Thailand in late 70's early 80's and it was most wonderful..the people and the food as i remember..i am sure foreigners could have screwed things up as they will do at times....i spent 4 years in far East Japan and Philippines and Thailand and Korea and Hong Kong/China and Malaysia...but as you said it may have been better back when i went...i loved it and married a Pilippina girl and have been married 35 years with two grown kids and two grandkids....I am a Most lucky guy in my opinion
Of course they are sick and tired. How would you feel if all the losers of the planet would swarm into your country just to get easy fucks with your women, getting drunk as hell and being mostly disrespectful ?
Al, Dito brother! i found little to no smiling "people" in the tourist areas. Since it was my first time there, i think it was my last. But, the food is AMAZING! lol. Love to all :-)
I have been to Thailand. I have never lived there, just visited. I have spent time in both Bangkok and Phuket. I found them both to both to be extremely exciting, surprising, beautiful and a little intimidating. I think Thailand is one Hell of an adventure. Would I ever live there? I don’t know. There is too much about Thailand that I don’t know. There is good and bad everywhere you go. I would love to see more of what Thailand has to offer before I would make up my mind though.
You left out dealing with Thai Immigration! I've lived here for 12 years and STILL count myself lucky to get my visa every year without jumping backwards through flaming hoops!
Lived in Thailand for a year loved the place. Saw plenty of snakes, scorpions, cockroaches didn't bother me, but the ants loved biting me........ Tesco lotus was good for European food, but I just ate Thai food and mama noodles mainly. Koh Chang was fantastic.
hi my grandma told me that baby powder helps with preventing ant bites and it worked with me just wanted to tell you this if you wanted to go to thailand again
Nice to visit any place but why would you want to live in a place were your singled out as a foreigner and seen as a walking cash machine to be scammed. A short visit is more than adequate.
Did they stop playing "Hotel California"? I swear they played it so much when I was there I wanted to shoot myself when it started to play (just sort of, not really).
What about the Dire Straights ? .... Money for nothing,... chicks for free..... it's what these countries are all about.... and believe me, it's the other way around..... NOTHING is for free here...
lol, when i am in Pattaya, every night Sweet Caroline from Neil Diamond. But when i am on my work and that song is on the radio then aahhh i want go back, 555
I've been to Thailand 8 times, the first time being in 1988 and yes, Hotel California is still often heard there. Hotel California seems to be Thailand's unofficial national anthem! I've seen many Thai nightclub singers perform it as well as a young high school rock band. They really, REALLY love Hotel California there for some reason!
I've lived next to Thailand in Laos for 14 years. I've been to Thailand shopping and vacationing at least 100 times. The things that get me are: noise and busy. Crossing the Friendship Bridge to Laos is like leaving a rave and going to a wake. It's nice and quiet.
I was there 3 years ago. great country great people. The only problem I had is when I left I left my soul there. Took me a long time to connect to myself when home. I loved it that much. I do intend to go back one day.
daveflick12 I was the same problem with Thailand is it’s not reality your meet a lady fall in love but you carnt ever be with that woman because us English carnt live in Thailand there’s no jobs there & also we carnt bring tht lady back to England there’s so much red tape you need to be very rich to be able to bring a Thai lady bk to England 🏴
I lived in Thailand for five years. I loved it. It was a great country and great people. Most people who don't love Thailand feel that way because they made poor choices while they were there and now want to blame Thai people. Again, I found it a great place to live and work . I'd go back again in the future. This video DID make some great points .
steve bolton how did you go about living there for 5 years did you have a kid there or get married I want to know as I want to go there to live also thanks bud
@@RGY33 I was thinking exactly the same as you my friend how can you live in Thailand for 5 years when a visa only lasts for 12 months maximum also what would a English person do for a job in they wanted to live and work in Thailand?
That was awesome and spot on. Want to learn patience ? Traffic in Bangkok....haha. When I married my Thai wife Sara here in the USA I didn't know I married her entire (wonderful) Thai family and I support them in many ways. The Thai culture concerning families is Grandma lives with the kids. Their isn't any retirement homes to ship the elders off too. They live with family and nobody complains. Thai family members work hard. Long hours and then send money "home". I get gossip from my Thai wife's conversations with female friends; their big concern is can the new husband afford to support the family. Its a big deal. Not kidding. I love Thailand.
Bobeeg -- Depends what you mean by support? The basics? Food, shelter, subsistence? OR 3 new homes, cars, bikes, tractor, land, businesses, and? Or just a monthly allowance?
Fidelity Quester you're right some of the families are just plain lazy and greedy. It's better to understand status and standing. Any thai woman having a farang husband (especially if he is white) moves up in status and has to show it even if it means the couple have to mortgage their lives. Having a Thai wife is a huge undertaking that should not be taken lightly.
Tim Smith 97% of the marragies between foreigners and local thai women are with bargirls/prostitutes. its pretty common knowlege with all the locals there. this is why my wife doesnt like to be seen with me in public.
I saw some of your videos and I was annoyed by the off focus camera but then I was thinking that your storytelling are nice to listen to so meaby camera operator isn't the main "focus" of your travel videos. Any plans doing scubadiving videos in future? 50k subs good job dude!
I met thai girl while ago n been in contact long time now. We talk about travel but . Just an average guy not rich . Whats better to live in thailand or america ? Whats easier or better way to go
So the point about Thai woman being strong and running the family and everything else conflicts wit the point about YOU supporting her and her family. Seems a bit contradictory.
MrFourkinghell same same in the Philippines . but if you use the BIG head first . And YOU make the rules. not them . remember that most not all only live for today .long term thing is not there strong point
Point no. 12:- I am not a Farang, but I agree so much on your point, and, likewise the Philippines. They have the wrong perception or imagination of Farang = Rich + USD $$$ or a man from another country will always be rich or far more better than them. If you Farang Marry them = marry their family. Your thai wife will choose not to work and you will have to sustain her living cost exponentially, and her family too. Pay till you drop. However, if you live in Bangkok, some minority Thai girls who are brought up by rich family high-income-earner and highly-educated parents, their mentality are different. They are hardworking and they expect different quality from their soulmate too. Thai girls with different background will have different mentality and attitudes. Of course majority of girls Farang met are from entertainment industry, clubs, pubs and bars. You could not expect more from them due to their limitations (upbringing, knowledge and exposure). Anyhow majority of them will have the same ideas of marrying a rich guy and have a good living the rest of her life. You could say that is so shallow, but that's their upbringing, their parents instill them since young. Well, i would say most of the thai girls we met, they place more importance on how they look, vanity, branded things, dollar sign as they are from tourism & entertainment industry rather than research, knowledge, RND.. etc (those are the main source of income.) All the above statement just my own opinion.
El dee and others - This idea is simple minded and insulting. Yes, like almost every other culture in which a woman is not expected to be the primary economic provider for her family, the end result of any relationship has an economic factor in which the husband, as primary provider, gives money and in return receives physical and emotional benefits. However, in Thailand and other countries that have a communal culture, rather than a culture of individual autonomy and responsibility for ones self, resources held by any member of the family are considered family resources to be shared among the family and used by whichever family member is most in need at a point in time. Giving your Thai wife or her family money doesn't make you the ruler of the family. It doesn't give you any additional authority, power or control. So, if a man comes here thinking that as the man he has final say and authority over the family, especially if he is providing funds for the family, my suggestion is to save your money and just pay for sex directly. It will be cheaper and less of a headache in the long run. Or else, negotiate a "girl friend for a set term" arrangement in which your cost is fixed and when the term is over, you both walk away. If a man comes here thinking that he will be the boss of the family and the wife must do everything he commands, she will let him get away with thinking he has that power, as long as he is otherwise considerate of her and treats her and her family well or if she and her family as economically desperate. However, as soon as the man abuses her and her family or the economic desperation ends, the man will learn very quickly where he stands in the order of authority over the family, especially if on top of everything else, he decides to get a girl friend or two on the side. Ask around about the term "feeding the ducks and chickens".
I love Thailand very much where I spent a fair bit of time. At the moment I am in the Philippines and I do love it as well. I slight advantage is that it is cheaper, most people speak English and visas are easier to get In my opinion. However infrastructure and internet are better in thailand. Tough choice...
What a great video. You had me laughing at a couple of things you said, but because they sound funny but are so true. I lived in Thailand from 2003 until 2012, married twice (slow learner) and divorced twice there. I've worked as a scuba instructor and have owned bars, coffee shops and restaurants together with my 2nd wife. After being involved in a serious traffic accident that involved the death of a Thai and the loss of my own leg, the most solid piece of advice I can give you is, unless you are a millionaire do not visit or move to Thailand without insurance! Another often correct saying is 'How do you make a small fortune in Thailand? Start with a big fortune'! Keep up the great work.
This is missing something very important. #14 - do NOT get police involved when you have conflicts with Thais. The police will almost always side with Thais even then the locals are 100% in the wrong. If justice is important to you, and you try to stand up for it whenever possible as opposed to being a pushover, Thailand may not be a good fit for you.
Thai police are super corrupt The same could be said about the United States if you think officer whitey is going to take the side of green card holder versus Jerry Smith you sadly mistaken hell any american citizen brown minority probably face the same problem
i just finished living in thailand for 10 years and have 2 kids with a thai woman. it is generally only poor thai women who stay with western men. poor women will be subservient if they are treated properly. thai women are far more domesticated than western women and are happy to raise children more than western women. i have lived with western women and would never consider doing that again. forget about working in thailand unless you work for a professional company. the biggest problem in thailand is boredom. it tends to lead to drinking which meant i put on a fair bit of weight which i have lost in the 1 year since i moved back to new zealand.
hey Mike--dont know if you will ever see this..i am from america and i married a pilipina lady while statione overseas in Japan and Philippines...been married 35 years...i have a most wonderful wife she stayed with me after i got paralzyed in car wreck and never blinked an eye...i went to thailand too while in US Navy and loved it...the ladies are gerat and the food is too....anyway just wanted to respond to your post
Back to the 2015, i do some trip for our summer holiday. We were flying from Chicago to bangkok. It's absolutely great city! The culture and beaches are paradise....then flying from bangkok to Kuala Lumpur....the city is also amazing....but I can say that Bangkok has more cultural but KL is way better for shopping! There's a lot more grand shopping malls and it was a cool experience.Malaysian cultural is also nice and the beaches are heaven too....but thailand has more attraction. If you want to visit the beaches, thailand is above malaysia at the result. But if u more like want to shopping, Malaysia is way better. So actually Thailand is also a nice place to live. But Thailand is not too safe right now...there's a lot terrorist sometimes (But much better than USA). But for me, Malaysia is way better to live in because there's a lot things that u need in the weekend such as for shopping in the heaven. Ofcourse u won't go to the same place like islands and temples in every single week right? But yeah...bangkok has a lot place for shopping too but KL is better. Which it mean Thailand is more interesting for vacation while Malaysia is way better to live at the result. It's just my think...cheers :-)
By the way, do you happen to know anyone who brought their pets from the USA? I'm looking for some first hand advice because we are moving back with our dog in April or May.
Well thanks for the video but I would visit Thailand first before moving there and than find out if its the place is for me to live or not. Always visit first before moving to a place.
RE: Thai women, I can say honestly there are many women are great and very family oriented women, loving and caring. I have so many friends that married Thia women and are very very happy. It is all where and how you look for women. Most of all it is about you. some guys attract the bad women. it all depends on you and your personality and wnat you want.
As a Thai I have lived in the both of Bangkok and provincial , I can confirm that Bangkok is the best place to live in Thailand because 1.There's growing city 2.There have everything that you need 3.There's cheaper for traveling expense than provincial 4.There have much better opportunities of work and education than provincial. For the countryside area of provincial , There looks pretty underdeveloped for education , healthcare , poverty , infrastructure , job opportunity , electricity and water access.
I've been a frequent visitor to Thailand since the 1970's, (USAF) then as a tourist and now I'm married to a Pharmacist from Thailand. I have retired from a medical career in the US and plan to move to Thailand for retirement. Robb's points regarding reasons NOT to live in Thailand are, generally accurate but do not hold 100% true in all cases. I hope to immigrate in early 2018.
Forgot about the foot long centipedes. Don't know where he saw the flow in thai driving, I was there 4 years and it was just a free for all with absolutely no driving rules being followed. I saw 6 people die in car accidents, some were brutal. I got hit once and broke my hip, 3 ribs, and my hand, plus some sweet road rash. Mosquitos never bothered me but I understand I'm the exception on that. Just like everything in Thailand the rules for gambling and elicit drugs are mostly just suggestions and exist everywhere. A restaurant owned by a cop sold bricks of weed and this one small Buddhist temple always had gambling going on in the back, its just the thai way. I think one major thing he forgot was the stray dogs, they are everywhere and they can be fucking mean, especially at night. For every bad thing in Thailand there are 2 good things, but some of the bad really sucks. I have a strong love hate thing with the country, but I'm kind of like that with every country even my own.
The traffic patterns are zoological. I got hit by a car on the sidewalk. The right of way is based on mass and cost of the vehicles. If you are on a bike you better consider yourself invisible. They are generally too lacking in abstract thought and overly optimistic to drive well unless they have been westernized to some extent. Their bad traits are paired with good traits though..It balances out.
Good info for aspiring travelers, very similar situations in the Philippines, the biggest difference is Gambling- in the Phil there are casino's in most large metro areas, and cock fighting everywhere. The biggest difference I find between Thailand and the Phil is the food. I love Thai food and don't hesitate to eat off food carts in the soi's. I wouldn't do that in the Phil. Too many unidentifiable mystery ingredients, the food is already prepared and sanitary levels are much lower.
doc welby I lived in the Philippines for for a total of 5.5 years. The 1st 4 stationed at Clark AB and the last 1.5 about 5 years ago in Manila. If you're just visiting a place, you don't really have to adapt. But if you're going to live there you need to adapt to their way of life. You say your not really keen on eating from the street vendors in the Philippines because of sanitary conditions. I've eaten plenty from the vendors and never had a problem. But I was also there long enough to know what vendors to buy from. I was also lucky enough to go to Thailand twice and thoroughly enjoyed it.
Sadly it's very true. The streetfood situation is very very sad in the Philippines. In Thailand that's the main attraction for me - to get incredibly good food (would be restaurant quality in Europe) for affordable prices.
blueknight, it's not that you immediately get sick from street food, it's that the ingredients will give you cancer in a few decades. From very low quality soy sauce to recycled oil to even chicken that's been thrown out of restaurants for sanitary reasons - that stuff gets served as street food.
He only hangs out with sex workers. Nothing wrong with sex workers, but they only represent a tiny percentage of Thai women. Everything he says is only really relevant for sex workers, though.
Ah! you can find as many if not more problems with all countries in the world, what makes me move there is the weather, nice people, cheap to survive there and then I like the farming life there more then tourist spots, ok you can go to there and have fun sometimes but not live there.
Thailand is one big hustle.... if you go there, stay alert. you're going to lose, but the more alert you are, the less you will lose. 1. NEVER tell anyone, this is your FIRST TIME in Thailand, even if it is... Make EVERYONE believe that you go to Thailand 10 times a year for the last 30 years.... even if you are only 25 years old. They are all LIARS, you might just as well join the club right off the bat.
UP THIS comment... very realistic. Anyway to highlight this? Thailand is a wonderful country (and people), but this is a must to take note of. Never try to appear too much of a unknowing person, must pretend to be alert and knowing.
Almost decided to live there, had the sweetest GF but it just didnt work out. Stayed there for like 3 years in total. Life is hard there trust me.....its not the disneyworld that people claim it to be.
This could be any country. If you were explaining this without telling someone which country you were referring to, no one could guess. Sarasota has insects and worse, hot, women are strong and on and on.. these are not cons, they are just local irritations. WHAT ARE THE CONS?
yep these are just irritation and does not have enough weight to be con. Farang is whining too much. This guy is a primary example. If these things is con then detroit and american hood would be a must avoid war zone country.
Glenn Momeyer boy you watch too much western fake news mainstreamed media and does not look at thing before the current military reform. It was a chaos before. Please dont fabricate the reality like in syrian war. It is a disgusting habit of western peeps.
Interesting video. I have to say Thailand in the late 1970's into early 80's was awesome. Chilled and no Russians. Can you imagine Patong Beach in Phuket with NO electricity.
Hi. I'm not Thai But just want to said . If don't like thailand .just don't go vist. Is simple. Every country have a good person and bad person. Not everyone is perfect. Before someone said someone is not good enough or bad. Pls think about him. Or her . Yourself.. are you 100% pure good.. so do who..country is 100% good. Is it all are good. Without any bad..... before SAID thailand is not good. Pls think about yourself or your own country is it 100% prefect Thanks
It is clear that he likes Thailand, and he is willing to tolerate the 13 things he named. He is just warning people who will not tolerate those things to stay away.
Thailand Rob, I just discovered your vlog, and think in the last 2 days have watched more than 20 of your vlogs. That’s one of the things that this COVID situation as allowed me to do, discover many more of what RUclips has to offer. I can understand/agree with all your 13 reasons, and have personal experience with most of them. I’ve been married to the same Thai lady for 15 years now and dated her for 2 years before marriage. You are so correct about them being strong women, even without a bachelors or masters degree they are intelligent and strong willed and yes, it’s all over the vlogs but to have a successful relationship, you much accept and be accepted by her family. Living in Thailand, at least on a growing part time basis is my goal. You’re a lucky guy.
You pretty much nailed most of difficulties an expat will face in Thailand. I would add food. There's food everywhere - and good food too. That said, if you want to eat primarily Western food - and not bankrupt yourself in the process - you HAVE to learn how to cook. When I came over in 1999 it was WAY harder. Now with Makro along with Villa and Tesco, Big C etc., life is a lot easier where cooking [for a reasonable price] is concerned.
"I have lived in Phuket Thailand for 25 years with my Thai wife and this is my experienced take on this video. 1- Most days are not gloomy living so close to the Earths Equator. Most days are sunny with 6 months of intermittent rain. 2 About Thai Women in general. They are strong-minded and soft at the same time. They do run the household and do support fatherless babies a lot . Shop around and do your due diligence in finding your mate. Take months not weeks is my recommendation. 3-Yes Thailand has a lot of wildlife from insects to the largest land mammal on Earth. Learn to live with it. Snakes are not a problem even though you may be lucky to see one. 4- Drive at your own risk and as a foreigner you will be wrong by default in the eyes and view of the police. 5- No Thailand has terrible dental care all chemical ADA endorsed. I go to Manila Philippines to see my holistic biological Dentist at www.yourholisitcdentist.com 5- Business bring your money you will need it . You need at least 36 thousand USD to show in your bank account every year to immigration to live in the Kingdom . 6 -Yes every country around the world has mosquito insects. Chemical Warfare will never work. Just do as we do at the Garden Villa Phuket Thai Nature Retreat. Plant lots of banana that attracts flying bats . This winged animal eats tons of every insect on the planet including mosquito. 7- Respect Thai Laws and learn them they change every year. Many farang foreigners are serving jail time;. 8- You do not marry the woman you marry her family and this is the way it is .9- Structured schedules do not work as no one will keep their appointment or not even show up and the social thinking changes with the wind They call it Thai time live in the moment or the present . 10- Gambling is underground except for the Thai Lottery. 11- Again the Thai family support comes first before the lady. Some Thai woman are the front legs of the Elephant and will work to pitch in as my Thai wife does. 12- You can live the Thai way or the modern convenient way that will cost you financially. 13- Live like the locals and you will be just fine. Holistic Chef Barry Anderson with Thai Chef Ananya Khaosan. PS RealEstate does not work in Phuket Thailand as it does in your country. Take your time do not commit to emotions and due diligence all the way to protect your interest and ROI Investment. I have my real estate war stories to share with you my success and failures in a future post.
My priority is housing. Prices of rent, cheap rent. I will follow you for more information. About price of food, doctors, transportation, etc. the basic things that we need to live decently. Thank you for sharing. 800.00 SS retired here. do you think I can make it?
The living cost is not that expensive but if your income is low it will be tough for you if you have 1200 usd up you are going to have a great life here but if you are coming for getting a job I tell you stay where are you cuz you gonna be in a tough place.
So you should go to other country that fit to you to live. I'm welcome for you comments. Some of the point I agreed with you. However, You might forget something. We are a developing country. Yes.. it has many many thing to improve. But in other point of view. We also have many fantastic thing to impress in pros view point. For Thai Time! . I don't think you right for this comment. Be'c I also have an experience with Farang guy they always late for our appointment. So please find somewhere in other country that good for you to live!
Yes Lucky I agree - we Westerners have been in history where you are now a couple of hundred years ago and you will also develop into the kind of country that suits your way of thinking - the same as we have. We all have different ways of thinking so we have different cultures, so let us hope we all stay different and interesting as we all become the best people we can be. I love my country and have respect and gratitude for the individual style of life we can lead and I appreciate the decency and honesty generally found. I would not swap it if you paid me. It's taken thousands of years of History to be here and I am well educated in all that history. Your country, and it's women, have had a certain historical way of life too that will have it's affects on how you develop and I wish you all the luck and goodness. The kind of "farang" going there to live are generally misfits or discontented people looking for a Utopia. Many are unable to cope with the work ethic, competition and lifestyle that we have here and seek a lazy, cheap way of living, so they go back to the "past". Discontented and ungrateful within their own culture some think foreign means exotic women and so on. The joke is women are pretty much the same everywhere. They are mostly bossy know-it-alls in their Tiny Kingdom of the Household, they want to be in charge of everything and want ALL your money. Lol. But in the real world of men and doing big business they are mostly inadequate. Homemakers, yes, so we leave them be happy with that, but some, like farang don't know where they belong. It's good to examine other cultures because we can see what works well and what is not a good way to go. Good luck in the coming years. Your country looks very beautiful. Regards.
I have been driving a scooter in Chiang Mai for 5 months. You need to pay attention all the time, but I am not afraid here and hadn't driven a bike for over 40 years but adjusted immediately. On a scooter on highways may be a different story though.
Agreed! I’m Thai but I’m born and raised in US and when I went to Thailand for a trip, they drive on the emergency lane.. Oof .. idk tho if it’s just a San Francisco thing or a Cali thing but we don’t do that here
Wow, who would have thoght that living in a third world country for a third of what it cost in a first world country would be different. There's an ole' adage that goes: "You get what you pay for!" Think about just what that means. DUH!!! This guy and other's like him that point out the differences of living in any third world country are stupid if they really thought that it would be any where close to the same thing as living in their country of origin. I deliberately move to my location in Mazatlan, Sinaloa, MX. Becasue retiring at 62 and having no other penision but Social Security, would cause me to live like someone on welfare in the U.S.A. The total cost here is almost a perfect 33 percent less than living in the U.S. IF one lives like a typical local resident. In a typical residential neighborhood. One can live in the "GOLD ZONE" where as life is considerably closer to that of the U.S.A but it is expensive in comparison to living as a local. Thus if one has a pension or two and Social Security, vs only Social Security. Life any where in any third world country is going to be different. There are more than a million U.S. citizens living full time in MX. Less than one percent, actually live life outside of the various "Gold Zones" as locals refer to them as. My barrio is of normal size, and I'm the only "WHITE" person in my barrio and the surounding barrio's. If one is on or going to be on a one pension such as Socail Security and think they are going to live exactly like they were in the U.S before retirement, there in for a rude awakening. Thus, one must adapt to a local life style or stay in the U.S. and live like one on welfare, without all the benniits that that system involves. One on Social Security in the U.S. becasue it's earned income now according to the IRS and thus taxible. Don't qualify for more than half of the benniifits that those on welfare without any form of Retirement Social Security do. For those on Disability Social Security, becareful, cause when you reach what ever retirement age is for yourself; Your bennifits are going to change dramatically when your Disability Social Security check becomes or reverts to conventional Retirement Social Security which will make you disqualified for more than half of the bennifits you are use to getting.
SS is taxed, federally, only if you exceed a certain amount of earned income. If it's only SS, there's no federal tax. Each state makes it's own rules for taxing SS.
@@farshimelt There are those whom receive SS Retirement bennifits per year that total over the maximim one can make without having to file. Such as doctor's, and other professional. Most general professional's whom are self employed.
@@wmgthilgen wasn't aware of that. I know that you can't earn more than you receive from SS but I didn't know that you could be taxed, federally, on money that was paid to you by SS.
@@farshimelt Because SS is deducted prior to receive one's pay check, it's not figured in the net income. When one retired, they generally are in a Lower's tax bracket which results in most not having to file. But in addition to what you state, due to one making extra income from a job after retirement and or anyone receiving more then the minimum bennifit requiring one to file puts them in a higher tax bracket. 5is the reason if one does the math, it'advantagious to get divorced after both are retired before applying for bennifits. Many of my previous client get divorced prior to retirement because to singles though they live together, receive in total, more than a married couple.
@@wmgthilgen So, basically, the US tax policies are encouraging retired people to live, in a religious context, an immoral life. In the meantime, Americans demand that our "leaders" be upright moral citizens.
Since we are on the bad things topic #14 Never a Trash Can when you need one and #15 Dang napkins are too small But.... Many many more pros than cons about Thailand
#17: Check your tax obligations. Some countries (America) require you to pony up, whilst you're living the life of an expat as well as paying your host country's . If you're not planning on coming back, it might worth considering renouncing your birth country's citizenship
I really enjoy your videos. I was in Thailand 72-76, living in Sattahib, Bangkok, Don Muang area and Aranyaprathet. I Loved it there. Keep up the great work!
Good video, confirms what I thought, I could visit, maybe for several months at a time but I don't know if I could live there. Nice to have the facts laid out like that.
He could stand a little sun given the location but hey to each it's own, he may not like the beach as much as other things, he's living his life, good on him.
Rob, what you have failed to mention is that the Thai people, in general, are a sweet honest people. I was stationed in a place called Nam Phong. I have never forgotten the kindness' i was shown.
I met my wife in Thailand about 10 years ago, while training in Muay Thai. We usually go back every other year for about 5 weeks. Your assessment is pretty accurate. One very important thing I thought you would mention is learning the Thai language. If you don't speak Thai, you can make it, but you can get lonesome for your native tongue. Personally, I LOVE visiting, but don't think I could live there due to only speaking in phrases. I can only speak for myself, but I am simply amazed at my wife. Yes, she is the strongest woman I have ever met, but not in the "fake" way. She is truly strong in character and integrity. I'm not sure if she represents typical Thai women, but if she does, you can't go wrong!

Hi bro:
You got my point. Pattaya is only place for fun. Not a place for living
Yes
Pattaya beach area with all the prostitutes in bars and sleeping under palm trees discussed me the most out of whole Thailand. Yaks..
if i would permanently live in Pattaya...I would go completely crazy. LOL But for 1-2 weeks its ok:-)
I agree with that, Pattaya isn't a place for living. Except the outskirts.
If you want something beautiful, you should go for something beautiful. If you go to bad things, you have bad things. All countries are good and bad. Sometimes you already know what you are going to find. But it's not Thailand, it's like seeing the whole country. Not good in the whole country and not bad in the whole country. Awesome thanks for sharing. For me, there's more pro than con, to live in Thailand. I first lived in Thailand 45 years ago and I have seen so much change and still love the place.
I do too
I would love to have seen Thailand 45 years ago.
Life In Chiang Mai Thank you dude . Its nice to see someone loving my country
I had no idea it was like that. I thought it just would've been more relaxed and peaceful and less annoying. I thought maybe it would've been something like I see Laos today. Thanks for sharing that.
It’s their culture and traditions if you can’t adjust then you are free to walk away, nobody is forcing you to stay.
If your culture is best, stay in your hole.
What camera do you use?
LMAO that face and sound you made at 2:45 about the monkeys and the rabies made me laugh super hard, you should cut that and edit it in randomly into your videos and stuff as a reaction shot. hahahaha
Another good reason not to live in Thailand is if you don't have the right visa and money in the bank to do so.
so to say, get the correct visa and rob the bank... than its ok. :D
The reason English is the most illogical language is due to the fact that it is not *A* language but a mish-mash of several languages.

No mention of freedom of speech. Fascinating.
I didn't rob a bank nor have lots of money in bank, still I have a beautiful Thai gf and live here happily. You have some weird beliefs lol.

“MOM! More cooky less speaky.”
Ali Khan Exactly.
Ali--- sir i was back in Thailand in late 70's early 80's and it was most wonderful..the people and the food as i remember..i am sure foreigners could have screwed things up as they will do at times....i spent 4 years in far East Japan and Philippines and Thailand and Korea and Hong Kong/China and Malaysia...but as you said it may have been better back when i went...i loved it and married a Pilippina girl and have been married 35 years with two grown kids and two grandkids....I am a Most lucky guy in my opinion
that's true for any tourist place in the world
Of course they are sick and tired.

Tesco lotus was good for European food, but I just ate Thai food and mama noodles mainly.

I lived in Thailand for five years. I loved it. It was a great country and great people. Most people who don't love Thailand feel that way because they made poor choices while they were there and now want to blame Thai people. Again, I found it a great place to live and work . I'd go back again in the future. This video DID make some great points .

How did you earn money if you lived in Thailand for 5 years I've heard its impossible for a English guy like myself to find a job in Thailand?
Having a Thai wife is a huge undertaking that should not be taken lightly.
i nvr understood what is this "555 thing" that the thais have?!?
Bobeeg wow! They are class A users! No such thing exists in Thailand! You've been bamboozled lol

So the point about Thai woman being strong and running the family and everything else conflicts wit the point about YOU supporting her and her family. Seems a bit contradictory.
MrFourkinghell same same in the Philippines . but if you use the BIG head first . And YOU make the rules. not them . remember that
most not all only live for today
.long term thing is not there strong point
Point no. 12:-
I am not a Farang, but I agree so much on your point, and, likewise the Philippines.
Well, i would say most of the thai girls we met, they place more importance on how they look, vanity, branded things, dollar sign as they are from tourism & entertainment industry rather than research, knowledge, RND.. etc (those are the main source of income.)
All the above statement just my own opinion.
agreed

#14 - do NOT get police involved when you have conflicts with Thais. The police will almost always side with Thais even then the locals are 100% in the wrong. If justice is important to you, and you try to stand up for it whenever possible as opposed to being a pushover, Thailand may not be a good fit for you.

i just finished living in thailand for 10 years and have 2 kids with a thai woman. it is generally only poor thai women who stay with western men. poor women will be subservient if they are treated properly. thai women are far more domesticated than western women and are happy to raise children more than western women. i have lived with western women and would never consider doing that again. forget about working in thailand unless you work for a professional company. the biggest problem in thailand is boredom. it tends to lead to drinking which meant i put on a fair bit of weight which i have lost in the 1 year since i moved back to new zealand.

It's just my think...cheers :-)
u said back to the 2015 reminds me of back to the future II

Well thanks for the video but I would visit Thailand first before moving there and than find out if its the place is for me to live or not. Always visit first before moving to a place.
I agree 100%
Was you on Saturday night live back in the early 80s?
RE: Thai women, I can say honestly there are many women are great and very family oriented women, loving and caring. I have so many friends that married Thia women and are very very happy. It is all where and how you look for women. Most of all it is about you. some guys attract the bad women. it all depends on you and your personality and wnat you want.
Yes,I agree with you. Thailand has bad people and good. But some people like to talk about bad women. Then it get effect with Thai women.😅
What kind of work can you get there? I have a Bachelor of Arts in Business Management/Finance. What is the pay for work?
and a million reasons to do go live there
I've been a frequent visitor to Thailand since the 1970's, (USAF) then as a tourist and now I'm married to a Pharmacist from Thailand. I have retired from a medical career in the US and plan to move to Thailand for retirement. Robb's points regarding reasons NOT to live in Thailand are, generally accurate but do not hold 100% true in all cases. I hope to immigrate in early 2018.
right
Very entertaining and informative. This is the first of your videos I've seen; I look forward to watching many more.
So is someone holding the camera or are you doing that from a selfie stick?
Dude your presentation skills had me cracking up.
He just described Florida...lol!!!
Steve Walther lol 😂
I live in Florida he did
spot on!
Except the women are not 20-100 pounds overweight.
Yes, it’s the humidity. LOL
I'm thai and I don't care if people are not going to come to my country. Keep it this way.
Yeah some western boomers hated us for some reasons, not all of them hates us though.
Have you been to the Philippines williams?
what was that thing at 5:24?? I must of rewinded that a hundred times
I was also lucky enough to go to Thailand twice and thoroughly enjoyed it.
blueknight Well stated I Agree With similar Experience.
The biggest for many people is the food in Thailand but in the Philippines its a big let down and harder to find good food
Not everyone goes to Thailand to find a woman! Your videos seem to focus on women and relationships.
diamondrmp
Because white guys do go there for the women. Quit lying to yourself.
Wilbur Wafer
And small penises
Wilbur Wafer
Right!!weak ass men.
Wilbur Wafer
And not so good looking dudes
He only hangs out with sex workers. Nothing wrong with sex workers, but they only represent a tiny percentage of Thai women. Everything he says is only really relevant for sex workers, though.
Ah! you can find as many if not more problems with all countries in the world, what makes me move there is the weather, nice people, cheap to survive there and then I like the farming life there more then tourist spots, ok you can go to there and have fun sometimes but not live there.
The pros definitely outweigh the cons. Where did you film this?
Thailand is one big hustle.... if you go there, stay alert. you're going to lose, but the more alert you are, the less you will lose. 1. NEVER tell anyone, this is your FIRST TIME in Thailand, even if it is... Make EVERYONE believe that you go to Thailand 10 times a year for the last 30 years.... even if you are only 25 years old. They are all LIARS, you might just as well join the club right off the bat.
You are a paranoid know it all idiot.
cmscms123456 Pretentious and desperate. Please stay out of my country, thank you.
UP THIS comment... very realistic. Anyway to highlight this? Thailand is a wonderful country (and people), but this is a must to take note of. Never try to appear too much of a unknowing person, must pretend to be alert and knowing.
Valeria stop lying
Derya Yagci more lies
Almost decided to live there, had the sweetest GF but it just didnt work out. Stayed there for like 3 years in total. Life is hard there trust me.....its not the disneyworld that people claim it to be.
Goody Goody, nice one Rob, btw you're looking well, cheers bro
Thank you Mick
I'm 6'7" ... Are things.. My size .. like beds? Doorways? etc?
maybe not, but you could get custom made clothing very cheap! look like a million bucks!
How can you stay a long time in Thailand?
This could be any country. If you were explaining this without telling someone which country you were referring to, no one could guess. Sarasota has insects and worse, hot, women are strong and on and on.. these are not cons, they are just local irritations. WHAT ARE THE CONS?
DarthPupVader 👍
yep these are just irritation and does not have enough weight to be con. Farang is whining too much. This guy is a primary example. If these things is con then detroit and american hood would be a must avoid war zone country.
Glenn Momeye
Glenn Momeyer boy you watch too much western fake news mainstreamed media and does not look at thing before the current military reform. It was a chaos before. Please dont fabricate the reality like in syrian war. It is a disgusting habit of western peeps.
You have to be a total moron or a degenerate pervert to visit the dump known as Thailand.
Interesting video. I have to say Thailand in the late 1970's into early 80's was awesome. Chilled and no Russians. Can you imagine Patong Beach in Phuket with NO electricity.
Yes and only one sand beach road
Hi. I'm not Thai
But just want to said .
Pls think about yourself or your own country is it 100% prefect
Thanks
loongsun63 yesss👍👍👍 I agree with youuu.
True
It is clear that he likes Thailand, and he is willing to tolerate the 13 things he named. He is just warning people who will not tolerate those things to stay away.
Thailand Rob,
I just discovered your vlog, and think in the last 2 days have watched more than 20 of your vlogs.
I am a Filipino but i like Thailand because we are Brothers and rest of Asian 🇲🇨🇰🇭🇱🇦🇲🇾🇲🇲🇵🇭🇹🇭🇹🇱🇻🇳🇸🇬😊😊😁
What about other important things like cost of living, language barrier or learning the language?
The living cost is not that expensive but if your income is low it will be tough for you if you have 1200 usd up you are going to have a great life here but if you are coming for getting a job I tell you stay where are you cuz you gonna be in a tough place.
In my opinion the first reason not to live in Thailand is :
I am not good or to lazy to learn the language.
Be'c I also have an experience with Farang guy they always
late for our appointment.
So please find somewhere in other country that good for you to live!
I agree maybe he should move to Singapore, Malaysia
The farang are late because you are late. They aren't going sit around and wait for you or assume you are the one Thai who is one time.
Danaip P. j
Regards.
Lived here in Thailand 17yrs, Most of what you say is pretty correct :)
Is cannabis legal? is it right you have to renew your visa every 60 days?
I've haven't watched you in months and I have to say, your videos have improved if this one is anything to go by. Very informative and interesting.
ok ive heard enough im never going
LOL 😂 You sort of made my day.
so this is what Voldemort has been up to since he lost to Harry at the great battle of Bangkok
😂😂😂
as of 2017 Thailand is one of the most dangerous places in the world to drive a car, let alone ride a motorcycle or scooter.
I have been driving a scooter in Chiang Mai for 5 months. You need to pay attention all the time, but I am not afraid here and hadn't driven a bike for over 40 years but adjusted immediately. On a scooter on highways may be a different story though.
Do a youtube search for "road rage thailand" Thats a real eye opener
Agreed! I’m Thai but I’m born and raised in US and when I went to Thailand for a trip, they drive on the emergency lane.. Oof .. idk tho if it’s just a San Francisco thing or a Cali thing but we don’t do that here
Don't drive then
I don't believe in picking fights anywhere but it got me curious as to why it would be worse doing so in Thailand?
5:05 Was this before there were 3? All the Digital Nomads in Chaing Mai (and elsewhere)? Look into this, please.
Since we are on the bad things topic
#14 Never a Trash Can when you need one and
#15 Dang napkins are too small
But.... Many many more pros than cons about Thailand
I agree
#16 Vagina is too expensive for Patreon income.
hahahaha funny Bradley but true ¤17 karaoke zombie omg im so tired about the same song over and over 555 but i can sit my ass another place
bradley Bradley #16 motorcycles driving on the sidewalk
#17: Check your tax obligations. Some countries (America) require you to pony up, whilst you're living the life of an expat as well as paying your host country's . If you're not planning on coming back, it might worth considering renouncing your birth country's citizenship
What you say is true in any and every country you go to.
Great vid man. very cool, and great info.
I really enjoy your videos. I was in Thailand 72-76, living in Sattahib, Bangkok, Don Muang area and Aranyaprathet.
I Loved it there. Keep up the great work!
I've been to Thailand multiple times...there is a reason for that. This guy is just too negative...and he doesn't paint a picture that is accurate.
HalYourPal G Of course it sounds negative it’s reasons not to live there
Living there is different from staying there multiple times.
Good video, confirms what I thought, I could visit, maybe for several months at a time but I don't know if I could live there. Nice to have the facts laid out like that.
Thankyou
A Holliday is a one day event. A vacation is an extended time off. Don't confuse them. You don't go on 'holiday" you actually go on vacation
What part of America did this live where he EVER have a doctor's or dental appointment that EVER happened on time?
I thought (Thai stick Bud) was a big thing there. your saying they will kill you if you smoke pot?
This guy looks even worst in the video which is now going viral in Thailand titled "Thailand vs. the most annoying American to ever walk it's streets"
Even worst? Eurotard.
*worse
He could stand a little sun given the location but hey to each it's own, he may not like the beach as much as other things, he's living his life, good on him.
Rob, what you have failed to mention is that the Thai people, in general, are a sweet honest people. I was stationed in a place called Nam Phong. I have never forgotten the kindness' i was shown.
they knew you had a steady income.
this was hilarious. Thanks, I really enjoyed it.
I use Kratom. I hear Kratom is legal there again? Is that true?
You forgot to add hotel california to that list of songs 😨
best start to a song. im still looking for this hotel
