@@darthkoo5000 "Didn't that happen in Tampa, Florida"?, "No, I think that was in Colombia"! -"ah whatever. They are on the same continent. They are close to each other as well."
The main reason things get done quickly in Asia is because labour is so incredibly cheap but these workers have very few rights and are often brought in from poorer countries. I drove past a building site in Kuala Lumpur at the moment just after an Indonesian worker had cut off his hand in an accident. He was in shock naturally and his co-workers were helping him but my immediate thought was “Well there goes his ability to earn a living” and I knew the agency would simply send him home with no compensation, no help at all. I still think of that poor guy.
The workers you refer to are willing to take these jobs because they are the first step up from being a (often landless) peasant. From the initial job, they develop some skills and move up the ladder and the country does the same thing. For example, China started out using low paid workers manfacturing t shirts, shoes and toys. Now it uses skilled workers to manufacture bridges, phones etc. Are you wanting to cut this pathway to prosperity off based on an unfortunate incident that you saw. I've been going to China since 2001 where I often visit building sites and factories. The standard of industrial safety seems much better now. Yes, it is sometimes not as good as it could be but you could say the same about many places. Don't throw the baby out with the bathwater.

Lived in Taiwan for 25 years. (Permanent Resident) Zero tax on foreign bank holdings. Same as Dubai. The "Usual Suspects" (ghetto crimz) don't exist here.
CORRECTION. Neil is wrong about the tax implications while on the DTV. You CAN NOT spend 180 days in Thailand then do a "border run" and come back, rinse and repeat for 5 years. You will be tagged as a tax resident in Thailand if you spend more than 180 days within a TAX YEAR (Jan 1 to Dec 31).
Lets just see what happens nothing has changed and next year will be the "litmus paper". I know Thailand better than most on here. Lived here permenantly since 2006. The Revenue Dept isnt even issuing TIN for tax registration, also you arent liable for tax on income transferred from overseas, if you can prove those funds were earned and savings prior to 1 Jan 2024..

1. I find some of the information in the video misleading - the comment about things generally being 1/3 or 1/4 of the price is not true (he corrects himself later in the vid even). Thai prices have risen significantly with wages/living standards in TH. While some things are signifcantly cheaper than the West (fresh fruits, Internet) others are more comparable. A more realistic example would be fuel which costs about USD$1 (85p) per/l in Bangkok. Significantly cheaper than the UK but not half the price either. 2. Luxury apartments he referred to for approx. USD$800 per month are studio apartments or 1 bedroom. A 2 or 3 bedroom luxury apartment centrally located in Bangkok is significantly more. While nice studio apartments can be had for USD$300-400 per month - they are tiny by western standards - i.e. 28-35 m2 is not uncommon (300-400 sq ft). 3. The visa issue is detailed by other comments - please take note. 4. The park in the video is Benchakitti Park - not far from Asok BTS station - not sure why he didn't just say that. It is a great haven in central Bangkok linked to a second smaller park - Lumpini Park (both are lovely). Within central Bangkok there very few parks unfortunately. There are some lovely parts of the canals and some other smaller parks but not much else in the centre. Sri Nakhon Khuean Khan Park and Botanical Garden is lovely.
@krugmeup2162 centrally located a decent 3-bedder can be as little as approx USD$1000 per month but that wouldn't be what most consider "luxury" - more like standard.
It's not only the UK which has become a very miserable country but the same goes for almost every western country. Asia and Eastern-Europe are thriving. All those Eastern-Europeans who moved out 20 years ago are looking at moving back and a lot of westerners want to join them.
Thailand's fantastic, I've been living here for over 12 years but give Bangkok as wide a berth as possible. I prefer the rural Northeast, absolutely love it.

Uk has asset prices too high. Taxes too high. 9 million workers living on benefits as employment is now pointless.....and lots heading to places like Thailand.
I lived in China between 2014 and 2018 and it was exactly as you describe Bangkok: Safe, clean, everything works as it should, nice people as well and fantastic food Also if you make £1000 a month you live like a king: maid, restaurants etc ... And because Beijing is so hot 🥵 🔥 during summer, I was spending my summers in Bangkok where it is the rainy season, fantastic! NO tourist, mega cheap 5* hotels, Absolute paradise! @flyinghedgehog3833 it depends on the location. Where we live, Bangued. Rural agricultural land is around 70 peso per square metre. 2,000 for residential land along the highway, and around 15,000 in town. Obviously, places like Baguio and Manila cities will be much much higher.

Yep Bangkok is awesome It’s becoming the capital of Southeast Asia. Singapore became so crazy expensive and boring and Hong Kong has fallen to China. Thais are very polite people and the city is fascinating
Thailand is more developed than most western nations, and still developing further. The weather makes it easy to live simply in rural areas. Costs are lower which is great. Thais earning very little still manage to save more per month than folk in the west. They're frugal. They understand true wealth. It's not how much you make it's how much you can save and invest. South East Asian folk are friendly because they're not frantic. Avoid adult Disneyland and shady company and you'll be just fine. Cambodia is nice too. A bit less glitzy with more rustic qualities. All western comforts and vices are available. Cheap too. Visas are really easy. You can work. Tax is soft and negotiable.
The pollution will probably improve a lot over the next ten years as solar is used more along with loads more electric mopeds and cars. I was watching a video yesterday about pineapple growing, the plants are usually burnt in the fields after the pineapples are picked, but there is now companies that have developed uses for the leaves and crowns, making a leather substitute, picnic plates instead of plastic, ropes, all sorts of stuff, so that might improve as well. That is some park you were waking in, look at the border at 25.31. 👍

Negatives Neil states. 1. Traffic is any major city is hortible. I've lived and worked in 7 out of 10 largest cities in America and traffic sucks in all of them. 2. Pollution/smog in most major cities is bad. 3 months a year (burn season) in Bangkok and northern Thailand is horrible and you avoid living there in those three months. 3. Sidewalks are dangerous in Thailand no doubt but block by block they are getting replaced and better. 4. See number 2.
That DTV DOES NOT allow you to work in an employment within Thailand. You can only work remotely, online. You are also NOT tax exempt after 180 days in any ONE year you become a tax resident and will at some point need to register and pay taxes. If you live 180 days or longer in any single year

Another great video, have been watching you for years but didn't know you had moved to Bangkok, welcome! The one thing I don't agree with you on is your advice re rentals - my company relocated me here in Jan 2020 just before covid, so been here 5 years and looked at many condos over the years, whilst there are many cheap apartments you have to compare apples with apples - a western size condo in Bangkok is not available for $600 - a decent size 80sqm 2 bed in a decent area will be minimum 50,000 that probably more like 60,000 that (£1000-£1500 ppm). They have thrown up many apparently 'luxury' condo's in bangkok with amazing facilities but the condos are tiny by western standards 25sqm, 2 beds at 50sqm......the point is there are many cheaper options in Bangkok as compared to the west and the cost of living is much cheaper. I have 65sqm 1 bed condo on the river front with river views near bear Iconsiam for £800/$1,000pcm have 7 pools/gyms/gardens imagine that Thames side in London. I have friends who have very cheap condos but personally I couldn't live and work from this size place.

I love Thailand. I met my wife (Indian) in Bangkok. Such a beautiful country. My wife's parents lived in Bangkok for a long time and are now in the north in Chang Mai.
The way you "specified" Indian 😂
Lived in Taiwan for 25 years. (Permanent Resident) Zero tax on foreign bank holdings. Same as Dubai. The "Usual Suspects" (ghetto crimz) don't exist here.
You come back to Britain and are even more aware what a Damp Grey Crowded Expensive Depressing Place it is, All by Design.
All except the weather.
You are 100% CORRECT :) I also made similar comment
Thank you!
But Neil will not answer your correction, he never does😉

Lets just see what happens nothing has changed and next year will be the "litmus paper". I know Thailand better than most on here. Lived here permenantly since 2006.
The Revenue Dept isnt even issuing TIN for tax registration, also you arent liable for tax on income transferred from overseas, if you can prove those funds were earned and savings prior to 1 Jan 2024..
SE Asia is just more pleasant. You don't have any crime or conflict and the people are so sweet. Outside of the beautiful landscapes, ancient cultures, amazing food, endless activities etc, just the comfort you feel when you are there relaxes you.

Neil, Thailand looks beautiful. Thank you for this wonderful walk N talk. May God be with you and your family.
Thanks. How much then is a luxury 3 bedder per month?
@krugmeup2162 centrally located a decent 3-bedder can be as little as approx USD$1000 per month but that wouldn't be what most consider "luxury" - more like standard.

Wow! Much better than Europe currently. A Brit friend of mine has been trying to talk me into moving to Thailand and I was reminded to when I moved to the UK. How are property prices over there, if you don't mind my asking?
@@yiguanas812
There basically are no property taxes in Thailand. Like a annual filing fee of $50-$100.
@@tr3vorb438 The maximum lease term that can be registered at the Land Department is 30 years. Clauses in the lease contract to extend the lease for two further terms of 30 years, if both parties agree, have NO bearing on this. Anyone considering the purchase of a house on a leasehold basis should consult an experienced property lawyer who is independent from the seller. Sup with a very long spoon in Thailand if you are thinking of buying. My advice relates to both condo and house purchases. Remember, non-Thais CANNOT own land. Thailand is cool. Happy you have a second base. We chose Mexico as a second base from UK and Thailand as third base.
Mexico has a great visa option Regulization program for any one who came as a tourist for a short visit between the year 2015 to 2022. No need to show finances. You get 4 years temporary visa that then automatically you have a right to update to permanent.
I know a Canadian family that tried to move to Mexico during the covid and they end up moving to El Salvador as they could get a permanent visa after a year in Mexico.

The thai people who came to his aid when he fell were amazing. One of the nearby taxi drivers came over and said no ambulance takes too long Ill take you.
