I have one of these right in front of my door across the street. BTW I live in Groningen city. And yes, there are different containers for different things, like glass, we have two; one for white bottles, and one for collored bottles, we even have one for textiles/clothes and shoes.
The video has been around for a while, many cities have implemented these containers. Depending on where you live, we have to separate glass, paper, packaging like plastic and cans, and other waste. In busy areas like supermarkets, there are multiple underground bins for each type. In more residential areas, there are only bins for plastic and other waste. You have less glass and paper waste anyway, so it is easy enough to carry it to the supermarket and drop it off a few times a month. Here in Utrecht, all regular waste bins have been replaced by these underground containers, except for some areas in the city center. Alongside the main canal in the city, trash is collected by a boat. We still also have the littering problem: people are just too lazy to walk 2 meters to the next waste bin, some will just throw it on the street. It is annoying, and it happens in all major cities. All over town, not just in parts of the city (rich or poor, densely or sparsely populated).
I live in Nieuwegein and part of Nieuwegein they have collections day but part mostly by apartment complexes we have underground trashcans. We need a pas to use it it from October 7 cause it was full most of times, yes we collect glass in same kind underground cans. We have also underground trashcans for green fruit and biological stuff. And for paper aswell 😊 people who have collection days has around 3 containers outside, green blue and grey. That's annoying also for them

These underground containers are great but sadly a few times a year you hear about a baby or litters of puppies and kittens being dumped in them. Luckily a lot of the time people hear them and they are rescued.
The Netherlands has solved this problem, and many European country's has following this idea. We paid a lot of taxes, but we can see that the government makes our lives much easier.
With those underground containers is only a risk with kids. They love to play hide and seek. So it happened a few times they were hiding in there managed to close it but then you will fall into the container. Because of that city's thought of the idea to keep the underground containers closed and that you can only open it with personal garbage pass. But they added a fee for that. So every time you use the pass 0,50 cents was charged. Because of that people did not use this container anymore and put the garbage next to this container. For that reason they opened this container again. But in my eyes best is to close it without charging anything if someone uses this pass. That did not happen yet
Development of these kind of things are given to university's. A lot of times they ask students to develop a solution for a problem. The student learn something and the local gournment does not have to spent much money on it.
Well, I only know this in our city in germany, we also have these underground rubbish bins in the city centre, but we don't have such a concept that we throw our household waste into underground rubbish bins., but I don't know how often they do it. They either come once a week or every fortnight. I've changed it to every fortnight to save money, because it's now very expensive, even for a 60-litre bin. Yellow and paper are included free of charge, 120 litres each. Our municipal waste disposal company has both the normal waste disposal lorries, where two men stand at the back and operate the compactor. They mostly operate in the city centre where there are lots of flats, as there are usually large communal bins there. They also drive round businesses. (We also have such large bins at our work), which we also drive every fortnight on different days to a point where the refuse collectors drive to and load the refuse. As well as the one-armed bandits. That's what we call the waste disposal vehicles that are only operated by the driver. The driver drives to the side of the road to the nearest bin (which is carefully placed there by the resident, straight), extends the arm with a joystick and unloads the bin from the side into his bin lorry. As I used to work for an external waste disposal company myself, I am also familiar with the rural approach. At least as far as yellow bags are concerned. Incidentally, yellow bags are for plastic and film. So all plastic packaging and aluminium cans can be thrown away in the yellow bag or bin. 3:00 Well, with us rats can also get it out, but cats do that too. At least wild cats do when they smell something edible.

Looks like a cool concept, in Germany they have the normal garbage cans, For larger shared apartments, we have big cans for which you need a key. So no animals can get in. Such underground garbage cans are only found in the city centers. I think I've seen something like that in Austria before too.

And so they place their trash bin next to the container, which attract animals like seagulls and rats. The containers are meant to dispose of your garbage bags, but people often place big items next to the container, like sofas or refrigerators. Just because they don't want to put any effort in bringing those items to the recycling alley. So it's the behavior of people that causes most of the inconvenience when garbage is placed next to the container.

No, only larger cities and apartments complexes, small villages / roads still have the regular containers.
