Referrals are sometimes the best advertisement, even if you made nothing out of the tire change or jump. And being honest will get you more referrals if you save a potential customer money. My uncle used to get upset if I gave a service away, if I showed up to tow and I tried to fix the issue without a tow because I got the vehicle running like with a jump or tapping a starter, he’d always say freebies don’t pay the fuel. I’d always say take it out my pay, because I knew that it would produce more business and people never forget the company that helped them. I give a lady a break towing a Mercedes, I towed her cheep but she was willing to pay regular price if I could stop by an atm. I told her to give me what she had and she referred us to one of her clients that owned a dealership and shop. Turned out she was a general practice attorney and represented a lot of businesses that became our customers so sometimes helping people out of a bind helps make money.

I drove a rollback for a company that had a contract with AAA. I was paid 10% commission. I'm not going out on the interstate at 1:00 am and changing a tire for someone $6.00. $6 isn't even worth answering the phone for.

We will do them. We don't do AAA though and we charge mileage. There and back.
If you want a flat changed it's going to cost 300 bucks sometimes.

@@pierredelecto7069 in my area AAA pays $60 for a tire change. I was paid 10% of that.

@@maxwind1862 yeah I worked for AAA shops before. I hated the middle of the night calls for BS. I like my current shop better. They charge more for work, we still get it. We do far more accident response, recovery and that type of work.
Higher priced jobs. Trucks move less. Money is about the same.

You need to structure your percentage pay differently or perhaps ask for hourly pay.
