- This is the first time I've ever listened to, "The Astronaut", by Jin of BTS with Coldplay. This is my reaction and review.

BTS has a way of making songs for ARMY at special or important moments, and even before we heard Chris Martin's speech you just knew that the little girl (on the purple bike, with the purple helmet) was ARMY, being taught to be safe and independent... but that when called to duty, Jin would come back to us. When he raised his fists in victory at the bike riding girl, I came to tears. And when Chris Martin kissed Jin's head, I did it again. And at the end of the live performance when he said, "I love you ARMY." 😭 These boys know how much they mean to us, and they work overtime to let us know how much we mean to them. (PS: Watch their collab with Coldplay, My Universe, and then watch their making-of video... you'll get some backstory on how inspired they were by each other.) Cheers!

This song is bittersweet. Jin is our Moon and the fact that he made a song called the Astronaut and landed on earth and found his family is.... well, it's the sweetest most adorable thing ever. It's like a musical hug.
How important are we that his life is upended, and all he could think about was making a song that hugs us, and promises to come back to us. 😔

I think we all feel sad and emotional because we're going to miss Jin, but we're also so proud of him and will be waiting for his return. Jin is all heart, which is so evident in his performances, in his relationships with the other members, and his genuine affection and appreciation for army. We're blessed to have him in our lives.
I think it's a beautiful song, definitely full of emotion and I think Jin really suits the song. It is a very emotional time for Army and Jin just wanted to say goodbye the best way he knew how.

This song reminds me Jin's speech in 2018 MAMA. Jin said in his acceptance speech at the 2018 MAMA that BTS suddenly became famous worldwide and had a hard time for a year due to great pressure and fear. They even thought about disbanding. However, after a year of talking and contemplating with the members, they decided to stay in the industry only for the fans and members. They stayed for ARMY even though they had a chance to return to their normal lives. And at the last concert in Busan, BTS member SUGA told ARMY to grow old together because they will do music activities for another 20 or 30 years.
As you know, BTS' love for ARMY is very deep, and they always show their love through their music. The Astrounaut is one such song.
Oh btw, Jin's neck in the music video at 3:50 says "ARMY" in Braille and the crossword puzzle (the black squares) means "FOR ARMY" in Braille. :)
There was a lot easter eggs for Army in video. The 10yrs old girl represents Army. the room was full of tributes to the other members. He is the first to join and others will follow in the first half of next year.
It is a very touching song. We will miss him and we will be waiting for him, ready to cheer him!

Yes it is an emotional song, but Jin is taking things into his own hands. My son enlisted in the US Marines at 17. Graduated a year early from HS
and had golf scholarships lined up. Instead he chose to became a Marine sniper & is now a firefighter. Very proud of him.

Hahahaha, did anyone else laugh out loud at his "I've got hair in my mouth" remark @ 1:40? I had to pause the video and comment before proceeding. How perfect that it happened on Jin's Astronaut video. :) For those who don't follow, on Jin's Vlive for the Astronaut release, he opened up by saying he had hair in his mouth and decided to swallow it instead of spitting it out. Hahahaha too funny.

I love the relationship Coldplay has with BTS. It's so pure & sweet. & I *especially* love the bond Chris Martin & Jin have. Did ARMY tell you Chris gave Jin his personal acoustic guitar after they collab'd on my universe? It's the guitar Chris has toured with. It was really special. It's actually on the chair in his room of this mv! And Chris Martin is the newscaster on Jin's tv 💜
Chris's intro to Jin was sad but it was a good , & important thing to say. I'm going to miss them & worry about all of them when they enlist. I've heard rumors that BTS may be allowed to perform together sometimes, while they are in but I don't know if that's substantiated or not. Ofc, the way BTS was shit on over the enlistment , delays, the possible exemptions etc, I'm sure if they're allowed to perform antis will complain about that too.
I'll love & support the boys no matter what they do or where they are! I'll wait for them to come back and hopefully I'll get to see them in concert again when they're done with the military.

eta: that is a great bridge! Also, the live doesn't make me sad just because Jin looks so great! His eyes are bright, he has a little smile and he looks like he's having fun so I can push the sadness out lol, for that. Tears always come when I watch this. It is a sad time, even though he is saying we are in this together and I have chosen this world with Army. The little girl I believe represents Army and how he hopes he has helped us grow to move forward stronger than before. Just keep thinking we were in this pandemic for two years..he will be back before we know it…and it will be better than before. The little girl represents ARMY, and Jin has always said we are his Universe, he is the Moon that is orbiting around ARMY (Earth), and when he is with us, he is home. This song touched my heart and I felt it with every part of my soul. Jin performed this song for the first and possibly last time (until after his service and he is back in 2025). All the guys will be enlisting after their solo promotions, so far Jin and J-Hope have done their solo releases, and RM will be releasing his solo album on November 25, 2022. HYBE/Big Hit just released a statement I think yesterday. ARMY's are sad, but we are proud of our guys, and we support them, and will wait for them to come back in 2025. 💜 I will leave you the Big Hit Announcement on their enlistment. BIGHIT MUSIC is proud to announce today that the members of BTS are currently moving forward with plans to fulfill their military service. After the phenomenal concert to support Busan’s bid for the World Expo 2030, and as each individual embarks on solo endeavors, it’s the perfect time and the members of BTS are honored to serve.
Since the creation of BTS over ten years ago, the band has risen to international success, broken records, and catapulted K-Pop into the global stratosphere. BIGHIT MUSIC has focused to the milestone moment when it would be possible to respect the needs of the country and for these healthy young men to serve with their countrymen, and that’s now. Group member Jin will initiate the process as soon as his schedule for his solo release is concluded at the end of October. He will then follow the enlistment procedure of the Korean government. Other members of the group plan to carry out their military service based on their own individual plans. Both the company and the members of BTS are looking forward to reconvening as a group again around 2025 following their service commitment.
With the release of their first anthology album earlier this year it opened the path to allow the members to take some time to explore individual projects. As part of the HYBE family, we support and encourage our artists and are beyond proud that they will each now have time to explore their unique interests and do their duty by being of service to the country they call home.
“Yet To Come (The Most Beautiful Moment)” is more than a track from their latest album, it is a promise, there’s much more yet to come in the years ahead from BTS.

I am worried about how Jin's service will go. For many reasons. I pray he is safe and treated well.
Yeah, we feel the same way 😢. Jin did leave a lot of good memories for Army until he comes back in 2025 with his brothers from BTS. The MV has so many Easter eggs too relating to his relationship with everyone in his life, Chris as the news reporter and the guitar that Jin received from Chris as a gift, their My Universe poster. Then there's the little girl whose age is about how old the Army fandom is and the purple color of her clothes and helmet, the tattoo on Jin's neck which is Army in braille, the pick up truck he rode in which is reminiscent of the same truck in their previous BTS MVs but this time he's alone without his brothers 😢. A memorable goodbye for now.
There was a fishing pole behind the chair with the guitar. There is a braille tattoo on Jin’s neck that says Army. The black squares of the crossword puzzle are braille. The top 3 spell FOR and the bottom 3 spell ARMY. 😊
The song is absolutely beautiful, just like Jin. BTS always know what ARMY needs and when they need it most. Not gonna lie, I did cry the 1st time watching both the MV and the live performance just because of the significance of it.
I think we’re all going to cry when Jin enters the military. Will miss him so much.

What a beautiful song. I have watched the OMV & the live version over & over. If you watch this again you will notice so many things, the words on the crossword, the Coldplay posters on the wall, the guitar that Chris Martin gave Jin, Chris Martin is the reporter, the little girl on a purple bicycle represents ARMY, & much more. I absolutely love this song more every time I hear it. In the live version I love where Jin runs toward Chris & they both have their arms out, they hug, & Chris kisses Jin. That got me. I know this will be a big hit. Chris & Jin obviously are such good friends, that is so special, both of them are so humble. 💜💜
It makes me feel sad but so happy we got it. I feel like we got to feel complex emotions and I look forward to hearing all the solo stuff all the members do before enlisting. I imagine they will have many stories to tell. I think This song is Grammy worthy. This song has been running through my mind for days like a welcome soundtrack.
This is a beautiful song. I’m glad Jin got to perform it with Coldplay. I got to see the live broadcast in the theaters and there was not a dry eye in the theater when Jin ran to hug Chris. Coldplay's concert was live streamed in cinemas across the world last weekend and I can say that Jin was even better live.
You should react to their track MY UNIVERSE and add on the mini 'making of' documentary narrated by Chris Martin.
You still have so many great BTS songs to hear and of course we are excitedly waiting for their solo projects too! BTS & RM collabs with Pharell are next I think.

I really like the song. When it first starts the beats remind me of Dreams by The Cranberries.
You will find with a lot of BTS songs the more upbeat of the song the more down the lyrics are. I think it helps us get through the lyrics without us full blown crying.
You can tell Jin is going to really miss his family, the members (his band of brothers) and ARMY when he has to serve. Out of all the guys I worry about Jin & Hobi the most. I hope it doesn’t break their spirit.

My wife introduced me to bts and she can pick little things out that are symbolic and meaningtul that I dont catch. It's all very heartwarming to me. There's a connection with fans that is very cool. We have followed them for. Two years and have done a lot of reviewing their history. Quite and endaaring story and experience. We are for sure 61 & 63 year old ARMIES.😁

Heart full, tears overflowing partly for the thought and care behind its making and performance and part not wanting to think of possible "scary stuff" but focusing on 2025 when all back safe and sound.
such a bittersweet song. Per your comments, its a "see you soon" song to Army from Jin, the eldest member, who is first enlisting into the military by the end of the year. The live version with Coldplay and this song will be his last performance and song for a while. He and Chris Martin both co-produced and co-wrote the lyrics. Lots of Easter eggs in the MV. Jin is meant to represent an astronaut/alien who lost his way in outer space in, per the MV trailer, followed the purple light and landed on planet Earth, revealed in the MV teaser. All a combined story, a lot of his songs are slowly starting to do that too. While on Earth, he meets a little girl "Army" who shows him life on Earth while hoping to find help to fix his spaceship. On Earth, the little girl (Army) and Jin grow close, friends even, and they can goof around and learn new things together. Everything the little girl did to Jin, taking pictures, playing around and pinch his cheeks (symbolizing we can be childish with him sometimes) is all things we do too. When he teaches the little girl how to ride a bike is one example or put his helmet on her, as a symbol of protection from him to us, and also meant to represent Jin showing us it will be okay when he leaves for a little while, he even cheered with his fists up to represent his happiness and confidence in us. One day in his home, the news reported that his ship was fixed. He rides his bike all the way there and sits, contemplating. I don't know if everyone caught this, but during the bridge portion of the song, when he's in the galaxy it's gleaming purple. You can't see any planets at all, and he only focuses his attention to the camera (ARMY), just more confirmation it's a love letter to the fandom. Anyway, in that moment he realizes he has been home all along, with Army. As the ship gets ready to leave, he turns around and runs back and hops onto a truck back to his home. While he smiles into the sunset, when he turns his neck, there is writing on there in Braille, saying "ARMY". This is meant to represent Jin coming home to us one day, when his duty is over : _ )
At the end there, you see he drew a picture of the Earth and wrote "Home" implying Army are his world, and his home. And in the end, the word puzzle has words like "Army" "Cozy" "Moon" (another song of his) "Star" and "Family" right before looking into the camera, assuming the viewers are Army, confirming we're his family. I'm going to tear up writing this. He truly went all out for this, it's not too complex, but the fandom is witty enough to catch everything. Finally, it almost leaves like a cliffhanger when he focuses his direction out of our view and a sort of bell rings....implying "the best is yet to come" or a teaser to his next song? Or possibly it connects to the whole bike representation (bells on bikes, you know, im not sure, I just love it) ....we will just have to wait and find out. It's not goodbye, it's see you soon. It may seem like a stretch, or too overwhelming, but trust me when I say BTS are very good at hidden double-meanings and complex story-lines. It's almost a talent of theirs at this point, each and every member. BTS will reunite as OT7 in 2025 :) Thank you for the reaction 💜

The thought of them living together 24/7 for 10+ yrs and now being apart for the next 2 breaks my heart, I wonder if it's possible that some of them could be doing their service at the same time and be able to see each other. I hope it's possible.

@@brayonne1755 Yes most certainly I believe its both to Army and BTS, but mainly army because he'll be able to contact the members still whereas we won't much if at all from Jin, but who knows. I think at some point they will cross paths in the military too, I 100% believe that so theyre not completely 100% by themselves (other then Jin for the first few months)

There are sooo many details in this MV that mostly only armys will be able to notice/understand and here are a few that really stands out. I hope it helps you guys understand why it is such an emotional one for the fandom.
- There are many other BTS MVs where they used a small girl to represent the fandom so the girl here represents the fandom, ARMY.
- She's wearing a purple helmet in a later shot(purple is the official colour of the fandom) It was black first because purple was never a special colour to the fandom until after a few years of their debut when Taehyung gave it a meaning. So it kind of signifies and captures a small detail of the timeline of BTS and ARMY, in a sense.
- They chose a girl who is around 9-10 years old because it's the same as ARMYS age; the fandom was formed around 10 years back.
-If you look closely there is a braille tattoo on his neck and it reads "ARMY"
- The suit Jin wears at the beginning of the MV resembles the one he wore to the first day of school in real life (there is a photo of 4-year-old him wearing a suit that looks exactly like that) The kid's drawing on the wall shows him wearing the same suit once again. It's basically to show his past and innocence, reminiscence of his lyrics from "Yet to come": "Somewhere deep inside your heart, there still lives a young boy"
- Chris Martin makes a cameo in the MV as the news reporter reading the news
- The blackened-out spaces on the crossword (in braille) reads "For ARMY"
- The guitar you see in his room is the same guitar Chris Martin signed and gifted Jin when they met.
- If you notice when he was on the street people ignored him but the "astronaut" caught his attention. Jin was cast on the streets randomly by a Bighit staff who saw him get off the bus. He never intended to be a kpop-idol and never auditioned. So the astronaut here could represent the company itself who found him literally on the street one day.
- The shot of his room has elements that represent all BTS members - Books = Namjoon, Guitar = Yoongi, Instant camera = Jhope, Flowerpot (like his "serendipity" bubble) = Jimin, Vinyl player/Boston bag= Taehyung, Speaker/Radio = Jungkook) They're all there, close to him.
- The pickup truck has a lot of meaning because it has appeared in many of their past MV that's connected to the BU ( Love Yourself Highlight reels, the HYYH era) In those MVs, it was Jin who used to drive the boys around in a black pick up truck ; it symbolises the time they cherished together and their memories. In this case, it was a pick up truck (reminiscence of the ones in their MV) that finally stopped and took him "home"
In a way, Jin was like a lost astronaut that happened to crash land on earth which was unfamiliar to him just like how he ended up as a part of BTS without ever dreaming for such a path. It was unfamiliar and he was unsure about it (that was the reason why he had a stoic expression most of the time) until he met the little girl (army) who cherished him and to whom he taught things only to realise later how they both made each other happy. He realised home was where his "family" is ; his family comprising of his 6 brothers and ARMYs.
Towards the end, Jin looks hopeful and eager as he hears the sound of the bicycle bell which indicates that the little girl(army) is waiting right outside (fun fact: the first option for the fandom name they had was "bells" and they later changed it to ARMY) ; that when he returns back from the military, army will be waiting for him.
These are just a few but there are soo many other details. I hope you react to his LIVE performance too (You must listen to the speech Chris Martin gave before the actual performance. It's emotional but beautiful all at the same time

It’s one of the most beautiful ways to say “I’ll be gone for a bit but you’ll be ok here’s a helmet you know how to ride a bike by yourself now, don’t worry I’ll be running back to you as fast as I can I love you”. This is both to Army (the little girl is 9 years old and Army has been around for 9 years) and we are the annoying but beloved sibling to him but also a message to his younger members in BTS. Emotional but truly comforting and I honestly adore Coldplay for helping him make this song.

I love music videos that tell stories like the Astronaut . The message is very wholesome and heartfelt too. I’m really proud of Jin. I wish for his health and safety wherever he may be. We will wait for his return. 💜
I can't listen to this song without crying. I'm going to miss them so much. They have done so much for me personally, for all their fans and for their country. They continually strive to make this world a better place through their music, their humanity and their selflessness. They have already given so much, it just seems so unfair to make them put aside what they have worked so hard for to serve in the military. They love their country and will serve without hesitation, which makes me love them all the more, but their talent, their positivity and their gift of hope is far more reaching and impactful as performers then it could ever be as soldiers. 😢💜OT7💜💔
This love letter that Jin helped to write for ARMY makes me feel simultaneously happy, sad and hopeful. I can’t thank Chris Martin and Coldplay enough for gifting Jin with this masterpiece and inviting him to perform it live as a parting gift to ARMY. BTS members love their fans so much. The fact that this man flew almost 25 hours to perform for 5 minutes is a declaration of love in itself! I loved the music video and all the symbolism, but the live performance is so special. He performed with so much joy and so much emotion. I hope some time you’ll also check out his song “Moon” that he also wrote for ARMY. If this song made you feel sad, “Moon” will put a smile on your face. 😊
I was teary-eyed having watched the MV with you then you admitted that you had accidentally watched the live concert. Your "I just watched it. Don't tell anybody" made me smile and feel better again.
You’re not alone. I tear up every time I listen to this song, so I always do Jin’s Super Tuna as a chaser right after. That’s how it is on my playlist. I think it makes us emotional bc you can feel Jin’s love for Army and his BTS members in every word and note, and his sadness at the thought of having to leave us for 2 years. Plus, this was his first time performing on stage alone outside of a BTS concert, and I’m sure he was feeling the absence of his members/brothers. Jin is a pure, genuine soul who loves with his whole heart.

The song is very gentle and the video is luminous and comforting although we know there's sadness behind the story. I think about Armies from 2012/2013 who stood by Bangtan even while they were laugh at for standing a talentless tacky group with a stupid name. I think of the vlogs where the boys felt sorry for Army who witnessed how they were disrespected and mistreated promising to work extra hard so that one day Army can be proud of Bangtan Sonyeondan. They kept their promise for sure and Army never stopped carrying them on their shoulders. Army💜Jin

Respect to Chris for acknowledging his short comings and actually growing from it. Judgements, stereotypes are inevitable but growing and learning from it is what makes up for it rather than choosing to be ignorant and and close minded about something “different”.

This is another heartfelt song and performance. I'm in all tears again. He is like a son to me like the rest of his BTS brothers. So proud of him and will miss him dearly. There are a lot of references and Easter eggs in the mv which is very common in BTS mvs that ARMY are familiar and can recognize. By now you may know a few from ARMY. Hope you have fun discovering more of them with ARMY.💜

Little bit of backstory, Chris asked Jin if he wanted to say a few words but Jin declined - it's Coldplay's concert and he didn't want to overshadow it with tearful farewells. Same way that they didn't announce their decision to enlist until after the Busan concert. So Jin came, he sang his song , thanked everyone and left. No wonder ARMY love these boys so much.

It is definitely a sad song for me. I enjoyed very much his live performance even though there’s sadness in his expression and I loved how Chris was urging him to take the stage like a big brother, so big cheers to him as well. The MV production is fantastic as always and Jin’s acting on this MV showcases his talent as an artist . This farewell song even though it’s sad, it’s made it to my play list. When I first heard it my first thought was hello range! I truly think he purposely decided to write this lower down because he knows the effect this would have on army and it's the easiest way to be able to get through a song if you're emotional. When my director died, when we came in that Sunday none of us could stop crying, thank heaven we were doing Byrd Ave verum, you can still sustain a note if it's low you know?
So yeah, the song makes me cry, the video makes me cry, the whole situation makes me a blubbering idiot. I'm proud of them for going and at the same time I keep expecting their government to say "ehm, on second thought that 8 billion bucks BTS brings to the Korean economy every year, how about we let them keep doing concerts..."

Ive been crying for a week! We all knew that this was comming and that he had to enlist... Jin is first out and then the others will follow during 2023. I will patiently wait for the return of BTS in 2025... and cheer on them! This was an emotional goodbye and a beautiful song! And love to Chris Martin for giving Jin the opportunity to do this on their concert in Bs As. 💜💜💜💜

i think we all where a little sad to begin with but i also felt very loved. we know he is going to miss us and we him but with such a heartfelt song we can´t just be sad we will just wait for him and the rest of them to return to us. but the MV made my cry everytime.

At first I cried. We'll the first 7 times I heard it I cried. But then when the acceptance stage arrived, it feels like a big comforting hug that we all needed.
For many years Koreas goverment was talking about giving Bts exemption, the said if the enlist the can still have concert in the world, exept the cant make money during enlistment, sp the goverment gets theme. Bts pull over 3,6 billion dollars a year to the governent

I feel like the song itself isn't that sad, but everytime I watch the live performance I find myself crying because Jin is so happy and he is singing basically goodbye, and if everythig to goes well we'll see him in 2025. I'm thankful to Coldplay not only for the song but for allowing him to sing his solo at least once before enlistment. Thank you for the reaction 💜

You should really consider watching a BTS member guide. To get a little background and learn their names and hear their story and see what all their roles are. I think you'd enjoy them even more with that context. :)
I know Jin meant it as a Temporary Good Bye song and he'll see us later, BUT, I tear up every time I see and hear the song. Yes, it's bittersweet. I appreciate he thought of ARMY and did this song for us and made the long trip to sing it Live with Coldplay too. On the other hand, I'm also sad that he and BTS have to do the military thing and that Jin felt compelled to do this song for us. All that said, I'll support them in their decision (not that they have much choice really), and I'll wait for 2025 or whenever to see what BTS will look like at that point. I think BTS will be totally different then, as military does have a way of changing people no matter what country it is.

It is indeed sad that he has to leave us - and there will be 6 more of these farewells in fairly short order. But the song is also a promise to ARMY that he (and the rest of the band) will be back with us when they've fulfilled their obligations to their country. Jin said that he wanted us to be happy when we hear the song - and we can try although the happiness will be mixed with sorrow.

Zero O'clock, let's start again next week right? 💜 Maybe you would like to watch a video of Jin celebrating this song, talking live to ARMY, on the morning before the Coldplay concert. Search "jin weverse live astronaut" and an english sub version should come up at the top. He talks about the video and his upcoming military service and it's serious but more light hearted. I think it would ease the emotions. It did for me.
