It always amazes me your ability with this kind of games. Emperor is also one of my favourite city building game, I have actually wishlisted on GOG so I will buy it as soon as I will able to. I am going through the whole playlist and enjoyed it a lot so far, awesome job,Zakh!
Really enjoying this series. These Impressions games are my favorite. Still haven't had as much fun with a city builder quite like as I did with Caesar/Pharaoh/Zeus/Emperor.
Martin Stojanov Not exactly like these ones. I probably should've clarified that. The closest one to these was probably Children of the Nile. I was thinking more along the lines of Simcity, Tropico, Anno, Settlers, Cultures. All great games, but this style of strategy/city building game is my favorite and I really hope we see more in the future. Lethis is the only recent one.
Love that you can pronounce the names correctly. Also that you say Happy New Year in Chinese (which you didn't do this level). Your pronunciations are very "musical". (I'm a musican) :)
I disliked Panlongcheng myself. The numerous requests from Yin are annoying, especially as Rice seems to be the "staple". What's worse is, if the farm house is misplaced, the rice paddies can't be placed properly. 26:00 I didn't bother with that troop request. You would need loads of forts to succeed and it never affected relations between cities either. Since you have to import bronze just to make weapons, it's a waste of money, as it's the only military based request here (well, discounting the fact cities can invade if they hate you lol). I'm enjoying the LP immensely! Keep it up, you'll definitely enjoy the Zhou dynasty (but maybe for the wrong reasons lol)! :P
Remember this post? I'm replaying this fantastic series. If you play this map on hard all you need is 2 full troops to succeed in the request for troops, so no need for elite housing. When Yin was feeling philanthropic I requested weapons and they gave me 6. I bought the rest while selling rice, ceramics and wood to 3 different trading partners. Fun map in my opinion. I'll finish a map and then see how Zakh and the heavengames walkthrough did it. Interesting to see how different city layouts can be.
You can get quite a lot from gog.com but if not you can find them around with a bit of effort. Archive.org has a section for really old games too. I focus on modding old games to show they still hold up with a couple tweaks and always link stuff in the description.
Great series as always. I have been wondering why don't you use Residential Walls for your normal housing if you have desirability issues? I usually just place two tiles of gardens and one tile of residential walls and there is no appeal problem at all.
GamerZakh, while I love your Emperor videos I am finding I have to remind you once again that heroes bless different buildings, not troops. Shen among could have blessed your rice paddies. Also, some of them make buildings cheaper while they are in your city.
TheGojoseon You don't have to remind me haha, I know that. I just don't put much priority on these things because I like to depend on stability. I never build festival squares in Pharaoh and I don't like receiving gifts of food or other resources. It's also why in Pharaoh I like the meadow farms over flood plains, because I know exactly how much it'll produce every year. If I bless rice paddies it'll produce more rice than expected that year, which can throw off my judgement for the following year. It would've been nice in this mission if rice paddies were cheaper-10 a tile is quite pricey-but I don't know if there's a god that cheapens them and besides that building cost isn't really an issue.
Awww. Ok. It would be fun to bless things at least occasionally though--perhaps after you've set up an engine and have a good idea of your income of rice/other goods?
GamerZakh Shen Nong is the hero to make crops and farmhouse (along with herbalist, market square, food shop, and Mill) cheaper if it appears. And below is the list of heroes and their abilities (walker functions, blessed buildings, combat etc) emperor.heavengames.com/gameinfo/heroes/ And I agree it's fairly difficult to predict and calculate the yield of farms in Emperor (even without blessing). It's "semi-random" so to speak (actually it's just extremely complex with all possible layouts, fertility of indivisual crop land, crop growing percentage, climate factor, later irrigation, and harvest time, due to walker walking pattern and entrance road connected point, etc. And some concluded it's bugged somewhat without the patch), and sometimes they don't produce the exact same amount due to blocking and some harvest is lost. But comparably much consistence (within the same farmhouse) than Pharaoh flooding randomness. (still less "predictable" of the total yield than Caesar 3)
TheGojoseon Calling heroes is really only necessary for missions where "Months of Heroes" or "X Menagerie Animals" is a mission goal (Nu Wa to capture local animals, Huang Di to get a helpful soldier). Otherwise, it's not really necessary to bless gods, if only to prevent ancestors flooding or sending an earthquake. I've played through nearly all of the campaign missions (am at the end of the Sui-Tang dynasty) on Hard and haven't had too much issue with the gods being in a city, only caring enough for them if it's a goal. 2-3 farms that focus on a single crop produce far more than enough of that crop for a city: just multiply that by 2-3 different crops will provide Appetising Food all year round for a city of 5-6k people, without any irritation used. Granted I've been playing on Hard, but I would assume the same is true for Very Hard (***** can correct me though ;)) GamerZakh Fair comment imo. And yeah rice paddies are expensive, even on Hard. Saying that, 2 rice paddy farms produce far too much food lol. Although, I would say that ignoring gifts later on in the game can have terrible consequences, especially as some can be quite useful. Same with just general requests, as Very Hard causes cities to be very easily upset and they can (and will) invade easily on VH. So always ensure to meet the requests on time or send them gifts for things they need. 'Tis important for vassal based missions ;)
Sajuuk's Let's Play's GamerZakh TheGojoseon Difficulty has no effect on production or consumption rate. (only climate type has effect on farm production rate). If you are interested in the detail of consumption and farm production, below is a post with 2 links that gives detail calculation (although food production is more of an estimation, it varied a lot with how and where you place it). caesar3.heavengames.com/cgi-bin/caeforumscgi/display.cgi?action=ct&f=19,6954,,all
It doesn't do much, but if Feng Shui is too bad then it can have some negative effects like upsetting your population, but you almost have to try place buildings badly for it to get that bad. I just do it as an extra challenge.
I watched your few videos on Zeus, and I was wondering, are there plans to revive that series at some point? I liked listening to your commentary on playing it for the first time, and comparing its mechanics to the other games in the series.
+GamerZakh .... Awesome video man .... But I have a small question for you .... Laborer camp has good feng shui near the cliffs (near hills), then why don't you try to build the monument over the hills. I guess they have exact amount of space there to hold the monument !!
Ambarish Kubair Cliff areas are way too narrow 100% of the time to hold monuments. And even though Labourer's Camps like Earth for feng shui, you can sometimes find that it's still bad feng shui for a labourer's camp even when right next to the thing it likes. To be honest, when it comes to monument building, perfect feng shui is not really necessary although I appreciate some like 100% feng shui: assuming it's not built last, you can just delete all the bad feng shui buildings used for monument construction to get back perfect feng shui anyway lol.

Finally some rice
Thank you I have been waiting for a while to see the new episode
Welcome to the rice fields, millet farmer. (14:00,27:17)
10:20 36:40 Bigger temple.
I found a bug in this mission. The kilns do not go and get clay, so I can’t produce and sell ceramics... and that’s it
Where can I buy/download old games like these? I have a gaming PC, but I'm really tired of modern games, I wanna go back to those charming old ones!

I sometimes do and sometimes don't. I'm pretty sure I put residential walls around normal housing quite often though.

I do plan to return to it yes. Once Cleopatra is done I'll need a game to cycle with Emperor. Zeus will most likely start up then.
i guess you are making way too many houses than required
