"Psychos do not explode when sunlight hits the,. IDGAF how crazy they are." is one of my favorite lines in cinema history.
Cheech did great in all of his roles in this movie...
The cop in the beginning was the best
That is one of all favorite lines in a movie. Im going to get it put on a tshirt
Came to comment this lol
That line is terribly under-appreciated. Clooney is kinda one-dimensional generally, but this movie and Burn After Reading make me suspect that he has more range than he is usually asked to use.
Lmfao the audience applause when your youngest walked in was an awesome touch. Like a popular character on an old school sitcom
One of my favorite guest stars of the show 🤣🤣
I would like to take this moment to thank the Blockbuster guy that told me not to read the box and just go watch it. I was just as surprised. Great film.
I remember when the film came out. I had no idea what was going to happen here...and when the butchery started in the bar, it was a real surprise. It was just WTF!!!! O-o
P.S. - This is one of those films about which you can’t write anything at all without spoiling it.
Haha I absolutely love it when someone has no idea what From Dusk Till Dawn is! When it goes from a Tarantino movie into a full on vampire movie, I love the WTF reactions!
It's actually a Rodriguez movie, but the twist still applies.
I remember watching this with my dad when it came out on video, and he had no idea about the vampires. His reaction was identical to yours: "WHAT THE FUCK?!" Love it!
"oh no, sex machine!"
_JC
More reactors need to watch it, but if someone recommends it for Spooktober they're doing it wrong.
This is probably the greatest "go in blind" movie I've seen, I thought it was just a robbery movie and then boom, vampires
"I may be bastard, but I'm not a fucking bastard" is one of my fav movie lines.
The reason he doesn't want to take her to El Rey is that it's essentially a prison sentence in Purgatory. As a sanctuary city for criminals, it seems like a safe haven, but once your money runs out you have no where else to go and it becomes your prison.
“I’m gonna need your pillow”
“ I need my pillow!”
😂😂😂 haha you guys are amazing
I'm still laughing about those comments. I recently saw Selma Hayek on the Graham Norton Show and she is still gorgeous. She is an animal rescuer and has about 30 different types of animals. Such a sweetheart.
@@sheilaburns8977 she was really afraid of snakes before filming. If you can find it, watch her interview of how she got over her fear, was on Jay Leno I think.
You me and movies hello my name is Gabriel I've watched several videos of your guys movie reaction lol funny give me your pillow I seen all the dusk till dawn films but yes Salma Hayek is banging hot in this movie I've always had a crush on Salma Hayek in this movie only without the snake if she hasn't a vampire that would better but as a vampire no thank you I would just kill every single vampire and get the fuck out and don't forget to use crosses
shortly followed by her saying "eww a snake" and his facial expression saying "what snake?" :D
Cheech Marin is in 8 of Robert Rodriguez's movies, and I love how he plays 3 characters here.
Eric Estrada was supposed to play the last guy, but he dropped out of the production.
Rodriguez was like "Hey, Cheech!"
And it works.
Nothing is more enjoyable than watching someone react to the 180 degree turn this movie does halfway through.
I love Tom Savini's performance in this. Perfectly pitched and absolutely hilarious. Especially his reaction to his transformation.
"Oh no, Sex Machine!" is one of those things you don't think you'd ever hear but this movie makes miracles happen.
Actually, Tom Savini did the makeup in this movie. He not only acts, but he's also a makeup artist.
@@johnhuddleston8647 I live about twenty minutes from his school. He's like a cult hero around here.
I met Tom Savini himself at a convention, very humble guy and he said this is his favorite work.
@@johnhuddleston8647 how he got his foot in the door in Hollywood through makeup like Harrison ford got his foot in the door by being a builder on set.
“I might need your pillow” 😂😂😂 GOAT reaction comment!
Glad Ms. Movies didn’t know the big twist, definitely one of the most awesomely unexpected ever! Great reaction!
This movie has one of the all-time greatest plot swerves. It starts as a hard-boiled "fugitives on the run" story then takes a hard turn into full-on splatterhouse vampire movie.
Tarantino's best twist.
Pulp Fiction blended into Dead Alive.
Back in the day our minds were blown by the plot twist. One of the best action/gore/comedies/shitshow of all times.
When this came out in theaters I only knew Robert Rodriguez from El Mariachi but loved Tarantino's stuff so went opening weekend. Loved the beginning, figured it was gonna be another Tarantino gangster movie and then ... vampires. Never had seen a movie change genres in like 20 seconds before. Classic!
Exactly what i experienced, brilliant movie
It's how Predator could have been if they didn't ruin the twist by having a ufo drop something down to Earth in the opening credits. Otherwise it would have been a crazy Arnold action film and the holy crap An Alien.
I was a huge fan of Desperado but hadn't even heard of From Dusk Til Dawn until we randomly rented it from Blockbuster and when I noticed half the cast were actors from Desperado I geeked out.
@@coreyhamby2989 Yes ... giving glimpses of the Predator / views from his perspective BEFORE the soldiers have figured it out was a bad decision. Afterwards it is fine and the green blood would have been a huge clue that "it isnt a normal human/animal", which was also wasted by the girl hiding that piece of knowledge.
Dog Soldiers does sort of the same turn. It starts off seeming like a military movie.
I can never get enough of Michael Parks. He’s basically the same character in this Deathproof and Kill Bill, and he’s great every time.
He's un dusk til dawn 3 as well
Yeah he plays Earl McGraw in this, Death Proof, Planet Terror, and Kill Bill. And his real life son James plays his on-screen son Edgar in at least the Kill Bills, maybe even Death Proof, I've forgotten lol
@@DavidGowersAlso Death Wish 5, where Charles Bronson pushes him into a pool of acid.
"Psychos do not explode when sunlight hits them, I don't give a f*ck how crazy they are!"
I loved this film as a kid. It was the first tarantino/Rodriguez film I saw back in the early 90s. They instantly became my go to director duo.
The Texas sherriff in the beginning of the movie is Michael Parks who also played basically the same Texas sherriff who was investigating the wedding day massacre in Kill Bill 1 and the Mexican pimp in Kill Bill 2. He was also in Django Unchained.
Also in Planet Terror
Also in Death Proof
@@rancherogt8037 He was a very popular actor in the '70s with his THEN CAME BRONSON" TV series. And for a while it looked like he was being groomed to be the next James Dean. But after that it seemed like he fell off the face of the earth for a couple of decades. As the only place I have seen him since is in the few bit parts Tarantino occasionally gives him in his movies. Anyone know what happened? Was there a scandal? Did he get blacklisted for having the wrong political views? Or did he just feel the need to get away from it for a while?
And both "Grindhouse" movies.
@@itt23r He was blacklisted in Hollywood.
I mean if it’s one thing for the world to agree on is, we all need a pillow for Salma Hayek 😍
George Clooney’s performance as a criminal is definitely an A+
Much better than most of his performances. In most of his roles, he basically plays himself.
And not for nothing, in the book, El Rey is Hell on Earth. Which makes sense Seth would go there.
What, you mean this role is superior to his Batman 🤣
Dude the bloopers on this movie are hilarious, lmfao
Clooney is an A. The guy who cosplayed him in the tv series was an A+
I think this is based more around the lore of "Camazotz". A crazy Mayan bat/death God who is functionally similar to vampires in a lot of ways. The temple at the end further reinforces that. Pretty cool concept.
In From Dusk Til Dawn: The Series by Robert Rodriguez, the Gecko Brothers are hinted to be based upon Hunahpú and Xbalanqué, Hero Twins from the Mayan K'iche narrative Popol Vuh. The Camazotz is a bat-spirit from the stories that serves the lords of the Underworld.
@@John-ir4id Nice, never did get around to watching that.
@@mantism.d.8363 I can't say whether it's worth it or not for you. But, if you like Robert Rodriguez, you should check it out.
Which is what Rodriguez was going for, IIRC. He wanted to lean into the local lore, legends, and mythology.
some fun facts that might've been mentioned already:
salma hayek was actually afraid of the snake and i think she had to be hypnotized to be able to act with it.
when the four remaining vampires from the first wave came up and there was the one with the weird looking stomach, i think it was from a deleted scene where its belly popped open and bit of some guy's head. i have only seen a glimpse of it in the documentary "full tilt boogie" (directed by sarah kelly) and was always a little disappointed, because it wasn't in the final cut. when i was 13 i knew this movie by heart.
thank you for another kool reaction video!
I've seen "Desperado" many, many times. It is my favourite Robert Rodriguez movie and I highly recommend it. It's all action, all the time, with some fun cameos.
Desperado and Dusk till dawn are his best movies by far 💯
The addition of the laugh/cheer track when the kids come in is kind of brilliant!
What people don't notice is the first half is a Tarantino film, the vampire film is Rodriguez. Note how both parts are different.
However Tarantino wrote it all.
38:11 They did not only destroyed a vampire bar. They destroyed an entire nest.
I was13 when saw this movie first. Read the TV guide and seen it was meant to be a horror. Up to the point they all turned, I thought they had mislabelled it and it was going to be an action movie. Blew me away and has remained one of my all-time favourite movies. Never tire of watching it.
I do always love that both Tarantino and Rodriguez have a common stable of frequently used actors that sometimes cross over in movies like this...Tarantino's stable brought Michael Parks, Harvey Keitel and himself (obviously)...while Rodriguez brought Cheech, Salma, Danny Trejo and I forget his name, but the guy that was the singer of the band...he was also in Desperado
Fun facts: Scott is wearing a t-shirt that says Precinct 13. Which is a nod to John Carpenter's Assault On Precinct 13 (1976). The guy that Sex Machine takes the beer from is his friend and fellow special effects artist Greg Nicotero.
I honestly can't believe that Mr. Movies hasn't seen this before. A first time watch for both of them is like a unicorn. Rare and legends are born from it. :)
You recognized the legendary Tom Savini (Sex Machine), but the blond guy whose beer he steals is Greg Nicotero. Greg was basically Tom's successor for makeup/FX in George Romero's zombie series, taking over in Day of the Dead while learning from George and Tom. So it's two legends of FX/makeup, both of whom started in Romero movies, sharing a scene together.
Selma Hayek is 56 now and looks amazing still. its bananas.
I thought it was funny when the little girl walks in and the studio audience applauded.🤗😆
They must definitely watch Desperado now. Not just for, but certainly for the joke Tarantino tells at the bar.
Robert Rodriguez was an excellent filmmaker in the 90’s before he started making Spy Kids movies. Please watch his trilogy.
El Mariachi
Desperado
Once Upon A Time In Mexico
Robert Rodríguez also directed The Faculty, too. Underrated flick, I'd love to see them react to that movie.
The sudden genre change halfway through is unexpected.
Kinda wrecked it.
@@hebber1961 Hell no! Made the movie even better than a standard 90's action movie.
Right if you didn't know what this was about you be surprised
@@hebber1961 your high🤣
Ya think? 🙄
The kiddo saying goodnight was a highlight, guys. 🥲 So freaking sweet.
The Titty Twister house band is Tito & Tarantula. The group also had music featured in the movie Desperado starring Antonio Banderas. Singer- guitarist, Tito Larriva also had music featured in Repo Man starring Emilio Estevez and Roadhouse starring Patrick Swayze with his previous bands, The Plugz and The Crusados respectively.
Where George Clooney became an instant movie star. And yeah, we all needed pillows when Salma took to the stage. Good grief. 😍 🤣
She is so good in this movie there are so many many tiny things she does that make her so natural at acting her very small part in old school is the best part for me the way she takes a puff of her cigarette and side mouth exhales while saying " I'm really sorry" 🤣 lol just the best
This movie's great and I absolutely love that when your kiddos enter you guys add the applause 😂
This movie is one of the most quotable ones. Loved having friend watch this going in cold just to see their expression at the sudden genre-shift.
That scene where Sex Machine is desperately trying to hide his condition is so funny. It’s basically straight out of the airplane playbook where the doctor is describing the symptoms of food poisoning and the Captain is drooling all over himself. Lol I love this movie. As always, love you guys and always look forward to your reactions.
Imma need both y'all's pillows hahaha
Only George Clooney can make a dude named Seth be so fucking dope
Fun Fact: Quentin’s vampire make-up predicted his actual appearance in 2022
"It's not an infection. It's a curse." So profound.
the selma hayek scene is so iconic it makes it more iconic to know she improvised here dance herself and has a fear of snakes
Robert Rodriguez started a cable channel called El Rey (The King). It’s off the air, but they showed a lot of grindhouse style films.
El Rey still exists. It’s available on free streaming through Roku.
First time I saw Selma was in Desperado, I thought she was the most beautiful woman in the world. After I saw her dance in Dogma I no longer thought she was the most beautiful woman in the world.
I knew it!
there’s actually a tv show based off the firsts movie, i binged it in like a week on netflix, it wasn’t bad and i enjoyed it a lot
Essentially an expanded, longer/more details, version of the movie.
It has 3 seasons. I thought it was fairly good to be honest. The first season is pretty much an expanded version of this film while the other seasons build off of it.
The double feature you mentioned - Planet Terror directed by Rodriguez and Death Proof directed by Tarantino. Both are fun to watch, hope to see your reactions to them soon!
I hope they watch both movies together with all the fake movie trailers and so forth. It was a Hell of a experience seeing that at the theater.
Thoe two films, together called GRINDHOUSE, were enjoyable. The best thing about GRINDHOUSE was the fake trailers. I want them to make the "Thanksgiving" one into a feature-length.
@@Deathbird_Mitch I'm glad they did machete :> As danny trejo really deserved a breakout chance :>
Ahhh death proof the movie that I was like, "This isn't super good, but enjoyable." most of till the end :>
I can see them maybe doing Machete, but definitely not Hobo With A Shotgun lmao
Everyting about this movie is just a fun collab between friends. Clooney really
stepped out of his lane for that character and owned it, but Salma Hayek's cameo
is why everyone remembers Dusk Till Dawn 😋
There's nothing better than spending a nice afternoon with you two guys, your movie reaction videos make my days much funnier. On the other hand, I keep forgetting Quentin Tarantino was in this movie, besides, Tarantino's scripts are pure gold. So, no one writes as well as him. I remember seeing From Dusk Till Dawn at age 14, so I was shocked while seeing Salma Hayek dance scene. Actually, I did watched several sketches wanting to impersonate that scene on TV, however no one can do it better than Salma.
The special effects of this movie were made by KNB EFX Group. One of it's founders (Greg Nicotero) was tutored by Tom Savini when they made the effects for George A Romero's Day of the Dead. He also plays S*x Machines friend in this movie.
I really love that Cheech Marin plays 3 different characters in this movie (Border Guard, Pu**y guy and Carlos)
The 2nd movie (Texas Blood Money) was directed by Scott Spiegel (best known for being the 2nd writer of Evil Dead II and his really great slasher Intruder), I think it's not as bad as it's rated, but of course not as good as the first one. But I guess I like all movies with Robert Patrick, so I'm definitely biased... ^^
Tom Savini isn't Sex Machines friend, he IS Sex Machine 🤣
@@dabbadonisthestout7284 I meant Greg Nicotero played S*x Machine's friend. (The guy with long blonde/brown hair...)
We can thank Greg Nicotero as being one of the reasons we finally got to see the uncut footage from Friday the 13th Part 2 since he's buddies with Carl Fullerton who did the VFX for that flick.
Man that girl and her family got kidnapped and was attacked and learned the existence of vampires all in the same day 🤣
For his first movie...George clooney was effen amzing in this. He showed why he was and is a fantastic leading actor. To go from a medical drama to a vampire horror film but he landed it in spades
" Atleast they got a good picture of him " lmfao! That made me laugh
This movie has some awesome characters.
The blonde guy that pulls the blade on Tom Savini is Greg Nicotero one of the main producers of The Walking Dead.
I love when people watch this for the first time it’s always the same reaction I love it
Fun fact: the hostage in the trunk at the beginning was Tarantinos theater teacher in high school and gave her the role as a thank you.
This is genius Quentin Tarantino's depic. Quentin is on that level.
"All of them were kind of unlikeable" pretty much sums up the cast of every Tarantino movie
When your little girl comes in the room and the applause kicks in is so awesome lmao.
“Planet Terror and something else” is the perfect description of Grindhouse. It was the one time I’ve been to the movies by myself, even though I’ve always meant to go.
I took a couple mini-bar size bottles of vodka with me, got a big drink, and sat in an almost empty theater for about 4 or so hours or however long it was w/ all those fake trailers and everything. Great experience.
the guy who played the sheriff was also a sheriff and a pimp in the "Kill Bill" movies.
(he also was in a show called "Then Came Bronson" but that was centuries ago.)
I love the technical difficulties and the applause.....
Robert Rodriguez also made the Spy Kids films. He found out while working with Danny Trejo that they are distantly related.
They're distant cousins.
Tarantino directed the United States side and Robert Rodriguez took the helm in Mexico.
Some vampire lore does include silver as a weapon against them
this was Clooney's first movie as the main lead, and he absolutely killed it. Tarantino did a great job as Richie too, it's a shame he didn't act more often
He does occasionally and when he does he usually kills himself off in his movies. Cracks me up how he died in Django Unchained.
"El Rey" is translated as "The King"..... In the movie, "El Rey" is a paradise for criminals.... You pay enough to the cartel, they allow you to live in a place where the police can't touch you, and you don't have to live allways looking over your shoulder.....
The lead singer of the band in the movie is from Robert Rodriguez's "Desperado"
I love that Fred Williamson is in this movie. He's a former NFL (AFL) player who made it big in the blacksploitation films.
I am so.glad that this was a first for both of you. the switch from Tarantino desperado flick to "creature feature" is one of the best switch ups in film history.
There was a tv series based off of this movie & it has the same name. It aired on Rodriguez's tv network, "El Rey". It was only 4 seasons & I was surprised that it was actually decent + it went on for that many seasons. Just putting that out there...
This movie rules. So well written and fun
Great reaction as always. This movie is just a fun ride.
I'm convinced, that Salma Hayek may actually be a vampire, considering she hasn't aged in the last 25 years.
So glad I got to watch this completely blind the first time
This, demon knight and bordello of blood would all come on back in the mid to late 90s, i was way too young to watch them and whenever id sneak downstairs to use the tv at night stuff like that would be on. All time classic.
Rodriguez says that El Rey is in a book he read and it's literally like hell. Where criminals go and never leave like "Hotel California". He said when he made it Cheech was metaphorically the devil. That's why he plays 3 different characters and tells Seth "it's time to go" at the end. He's taking Seth to hell basically where he is gonna spend his days miserably.
Oh man, I had just hit puberty when I saw Dusk Till Dawn the SECOND TIME after a couple of years it being out. And boy oh boy. Selma really helped me out in allot of ways back then. LMAO god bless you Selma Heyak
"Another twist you didn't see coming." lOl. I see what he did there.
The guys who start fighting the vamps have what I call "flexible minds" when they see weird shit going down they don't freak out they just accept it and start going to work
16:33, "is he the bouncer?" "or just the announcer?"😂😂😂
I love this review! I remember when I saw this movie for the first time. Didn't know what I was watching then halfway through this thing went off the rails. Crazy as hell! Love you guys! Keep it going!
awwwww... what a sweet golden headed toddler intermission! good mom reflexes for turning the movie off too!
This movie is one of best films of all time. Your voice is amazing.
I recommend watching the series based on the film. The showrunner of the series is also Robert Rodriguez. It was in the series that there was a place for what there was not enough space in the film. It is also impossible not to mention Eiza González, who was cast as Santanico. I guarantee you an incredible atmosphere and at least 2 interesting seasons.👍
The guy playing dominoes is actor Fred Williamson he was a football player and an actor in the 60s and 70s and he was in the movie version of M*A*SH as Spearchucker Jones, it was directed by Robert Altman and is another movie that is definitely worth a reaction.
The table kills were the best., But it also reminded me of a movie where the main character's friend is turned into a vampire earlier in the film, and he has to stake his friend with a table leg. And then his friend shows up later in the movie still alive, and is like, "Formica..who knew?"
"I need my pillow"
Haha, awesome!!!
The first time I watched this movie I HAD NO IDEA This was a Vampire flick. It's one of thos movies where not knowing totally is the best way, because it is definitely two completely different movies smashed together when experienced that way.
40:50 Tom Savini didn't work on the special FX for this movie. By the late-90s, he was trying to get his acting career going and very often delegated the occasional FX gig to the students of his special make-up effects school in Pennsylvania, taking credit as a supervisor. The special-FX on "From Dusk Till Dawn" were done by the KNB FX studio - as most people know, the three letters stand for Kurtzman, Nicotero, and Berger, the founders of the company. Greg Nicotero, who got his start as one of Savini's assistants on George A. Romero's "Day of the Dead" before moving to LA, also plays the blonde biker who threatens Sex Machine with the switchblade knife. The original script for the movie was written by Robert Kurtzman as both a directing vehicle for himself (he later went on to direct a few movies, starting with "Wishmaster" in '97) as well as a large gig for his then-blossoming company - we're talking about the early-90s here. According to the legend, Kurtzman did the severed ear effect on "Reservoir Dogs" for free in exchange for Quentin Tarantino rewriting the script. The screenplay then became a hot commodity after Tarantino's career took off, eventually landing on Robert Rodriguez's lap (who at the time had become a hot young director after "El Mariachi"). By that point, Kurtzman's chances of directing the flick had slimmed down to zero, but he still retained a story credit and KNB got to make the special FX for the movie, which is more than most people get in Hollywood after a project they started takes off. He had actually shot a teaser\pitch trailer for "From Dusk Till Dawn" in 1991, set to "Hell's bells" by AC\DC and starring Joe Pilato (Captain Rhodes from "Day of the Dead") as Seth Gecko: ruclips.net/video/ASv2i3O2rOw/видео.html
...needless to say, once the movie became a realistic proposal with a substantial budget, Pilato was not even considered for the role and the filmmakers went for George Clooney, who at the time had become a popular TV star thanks to the medical drama "E.R." and was trying to get a proper movie career going (yeah, kids: there was a time when being a star on TV didn't automatically translate in a film career and most TV actors only used to get bit parts in movies).
Always thought it was hilarious he tells her to go home... but to what? Her dad and brother just turned into vampires and were killed like an hour ago, lol .. also that ending reveal of the temple was bad ass.
Yeah, I'm not so sure they thought that through all the way to the end. It seems like they intend it to be as about as happy an ending as can be after what happened but, I mean, the reason Seth is going where he's going is because they can stretch that money in Mexico along with everyone else that's holding up down there since it seems this is a pretty standard situation for criminal types. So he surely realises the very small amount of money he gives her will maybe last her a few weeks as she tries to get her life back together. Then she's homeless. And her family is dead. Well, have a good life Kate.
If you guys haven't seen it yet Near Dark would be a good vampire movie to do.
Mom rented this for me and Thomas Danielson (both aged 13) when he stayed over for the night one Friday. She didn't do her research. We had a blast.
