The “back story” of her romance with Peter Townsend is very interesting; perhaps it is true that she was only intensely infatuated, but I believe he genuinely loved her because a few years later he married a young French woman (Marie-Luce Jamagne) who looked so much like Princess Margaret that you could almost believe they were identical twins.

Rubbish. Lord Glenconner owned the island of Mustique and the land and her house was his wedding gift to her. As for the silly woman and the lobster ….. she derived enormous benefit by mere association. How I loathe people whom criticise Princess Margaret never having known her or e=en meeting her. The institution is tough. But, desperate or not, the goings on at Mustique were - well - all money and plums in mouths but cheap and - meh - just gross, personally, and no excuse. You can give yourself to other things. Diana made mistakes too, but she kept classy and devoted herself to charity rather than debauchery. She'd still be doing amazing things if she was here. I feel for Margaret, but ... she kinda did it to herself too. So did Fergie, but Margaret could have been much kinder, considering what she'd done. Ah well, we need to ahve compassion I guess.

They make it out that its tough being 2nd to the Queen, but I reckon you could argue that it would be a lot tougher being the Queen.
QUEEN ELIZABETH II, was 100% committed to Public Service, & was heavily scrutinised.
Princess Margaret, although also subjected to scrutiny & also committed to Public Service, was subject to less scrutiny & actually had a bit more choice.
In relation to Marriage sure they gave her a choice but it would be a choice where she pretty much could only give 1 answer. Ie You can marry Townsend, but if you do you will completely get cut off from the Royal Family, everything will be taken away, your allowance & Bank Account will be taken away & frozen, you will have to fund the Wedding yourself, you will not be able to be married at St James Palace, no one from the Royal Family or our Friends will attend.
Same question was probably given to Charles III, with the addition of you will never be King.Charles III should of actually been allowed to marry Camilla Rosemary Shand.
I think though & Im sure many would agree that it was great that he didnt & that he married Diana Spencer, because they had possible* 2 great Boys that grew up to be the Men they are today.
*There's some arguments against Prince Harry, even that he is not Charles biological Son. Also the type of Person he is today. I still think Prince Harry is awesome. Meghan is the problem, she has basically made anyone in her circle alienate their Family & previous Friends. She will then destroy them & then alienate them. She has done all this to Prince Harry apart from alienate him. She has also alienated everyone else in her life, such as her Family. Its also always their fault. One big problem for you Meghan, is that you are the one common denominator & its happened so many times that its absolutely mathematically impossible not to be your fault.
In regards to William, we can not get a more suitable future King.
William is confident, charismatic, principled, charming, personable, intelligent awesome, & and all round great guy.
Prince William has also married the perfect young Lady, who is intelligent, beautiful, principled, & also awesome & great
They have 3 equally as great Children that they have mostly brought up themselves.
I believe nearly everyone is very excited for William & Kate to become King & Queen.
Had Camilla married Charles all this would never of happened, so despite it being the right thing to do, its great the Royal Family made this Union an impossible choice for Charles to make.
Instead we get the unlikely union of 20yo Diana Spencer to 32 Prince Charles. They met when she was just 16. Prince Charles was dating Diana's 22yo Sister - Sarah. Who knows when Charles & Diana first started dating & what age she was when he took her virginity. All we know is this Union was very unlikely to work. Altnough thanks to it we got William & Harry. Or for some of you - just William. That surely has got to be the best thing ever!😮

She did too much drugs and alcohol at Mystique. A true party princess 🎉 if she had lived a clean life maybe she would have reached a high age just as her mother and sister.

The narrative slant, and not just the narrarator, seems so primitive. How dare an individual member of our species decide for themselves what to do with their life. Princess, schmincess...😄😄🐉
EDIT: She should have just banged out a polysci degree at Oxford and settled into a nice civil servant's job. 😄🤓🙃

The documentary is inaccurate in relation to Princess Margaret’s relationship with Peter Townsend. Margaret could have married Townsend. She absolutely would not have lost her income from the civil list, in fact it would have been increased on marriage. I don’t think she would have had to give up her HRH, indeed it would have taken a change in the law to take that off her because she was an HRH by birth. The only thing she would have had to give up was her place in the line of succession, which was very much reduced as soon as the Queen started having children and that was before Elizabeth was Queen. The simple fact is that Margaret was not forced to give up the man she loved, she chose to, because her position, such as it was, was too important to her. That’s fair enough, it happens in relationships sometimes, a moment when you realise you just don’t love someone enough to give things up for them, but let’s not pretend she was some kind of tragic figure because she wasn’t. Princess Margaret’s problem, at least as far as I can see, was not being second fiddle to her sister. It was also not being overlooked, both her parents adored her, her father idolised both of his girls and referred to them as his pride and joy, Elizabeth being his pride and Margaret his joy. Margaret’s problem, I believe, as someone whose parents are no longer alive, was losing her father at a young age. She was just 22 and this man she adored was gone. I don’t think Margaret ever quite recovered from losing her father and I think she mourned him all her life, but looked for solace in the wrong places.

Might have been a different story if the Tennants had given her a toaster instead of plot of land.

For all her faults, Margaret was unfailingly loyal to her family and to the monarchy and was never guilty of betrayal. The American has no such respect or morals. She worships at the shrine of celebrity. She is not fit to have buffed Margaret's shoes.
