This is easily one of the most unsetteling game-over screens in a video game. As much as I enjoy the open-world, FPS nature of the newest additions, it's a crying shame Bethesda never came close to replicating the same eeire feeling conjured by this image and voiceover.
"Your adventure is done..." There is just something so horrible about that last line of the radiation death. That your character might have been this plucky, genuinely enthusiastic young man leaving his vault. Become a hero, save your friends and family and make all of the vault cherish you while celebrating your return with the water-chip. And you end up dying a very horrible slow death alone, without any of those things. No triumphant return, no cheers, only the silence of the grim dark void which engulfs you now. Your 'adventure' wasn't an adventure at all. It was a dark sentence. It was a terrible punishment for existing in the wrong time at the wrong place. And now, your sentence is fulfilled. _"Your adventure is done..."_
It was basically saying "you are too innocent for this world, and now you see this world for what it trully is...sadly you are only seeing now as your mind fades into oblivion"
Ron Perlman: "You fought valiantly, but to no avail. Your twisted and ruined body goes down in a hail of bullets... and thus ends your life in the wasteland..."
Fallout 76 takes place like 2 decades after the war but is still just as happy go lucky and corny as fallout 4 was. Sadly, I don’t think Bethesda is capable of capturing the horror of Fallout that is seen in Fallout 1 and New Vegas. Fallout 3 had elements of it but were mostly off to the side in environmental storytelling (like the school basement), the characters felt like caricatures and dialogue was bad
If other games has these style game over screens Injustice: You Fought Bravely but you failed to stop the enraged Man Of Steel. He Burns Your Remains Until there is nothing left. Mortal Kombat: Your fight ends here Shang Tsung and outworld has won the tournament. Earthrealm will now fall. Batman Arkham Asylum: the joker has won. Gotham is doomed without a hero. thank you for mentioning where "you're bones" came from. I watched that video years ago and literally only remember "you're bones" and thought it was hilarious and have been trying to find it the last few weeks.
Something about the hollow nothingness of the wasteland, screaming wind, and lifeless voice describing your predicament still to this day is creepy as shit... It reminds us all how mortality comes for everyone, and your story will end too one day.
aside from a really great voice performance and beautiful dialogue, it's really motivate you to not ended in the same faith again. the way the sun shining on your skeleton just lying there in a big desert wasteland.
I don’t know why these were ever removed. Even in fallout new vegas these would of slapped. If you chose to side against the legion for example, the screen could of mentioned the legion takeover of vegas and mentioned the brutality people suffered, especially mentioning goodsprings. Or if you go against all factions and try to take over vegas by yourself, they should say something like “the courier who threw in their bets as a wild card did so bravely, against all odds, but they should of always understood that the house always wins”. Or something along those lines.
@@Knight_Of_Eleum_Loyce Horrific, when the game prompts that you are losing your hair when just going around the wasteland after going out of the glow and you die midway to the B.o.S Bunker... It is tragic... especially if you only have one save.
@@jebusspqr2121 Exactly. I need to play Fallout 1 again (even though I hate the idea of having a timer clicking down before I can save my vault). Btw, just don't take this the wrong way, but it's losing* not loosing. I see that typo done too much and it bugs the hell out of me.
“All that remains of the unlucky courier are questions and bones bleached by the cruel Mojave sun. “You cashed your chips without ever knowing who put a bullet in your head.” “Another soul betted, another soul lost, and so the House continues to win.” “Despite your efforts, Caesar came, Ceasar saw, and Caesar conquered.” “You went all in, and you paid the price. If only you'd quit while you were ahead…”
I know that Fallout 3 is often regarded as the pinnacle of the franchise...but simple touches like these death cutscenes demonstrate why the original Fallout will always be my favorite. "Your bones are scraped clean by the desolate wind. Your vault will now surely die, as you have."
Fallout 3 is nowhere near close to being the pinnacle of fallout, I'd say fallout 2 or New Vegas are the pinnacle, but fallout 3 is the worst in the series simply cause of it's incredibly flawed story and world building
After playing the games I much enjoy this method of fate/endings, I love how the differences in each one are subtle whether you succeed or fail, but still tell a thousand words in their simplicity

my favorite was "You fought valiantly, but to no avail. Your twisted and ruined body goes down in the hail of bullets. This is easily one of the most unsetteling game-over screens in a video game. As much as I enjoy the open-world, FPS nature of the newest additions, it's a crying shame Bethesda never came close to replicating the same eeire feeling conjured by this image and voiceover.
"Your adventure is done..."
There is just something so horrible about that last line of the radiation death.
I’ve never played Fallout before but the narrator and the music in the background gives me chills
Ron Perlman: "You fought valiantly, but to no avail. Your twisted and ruined body goes down in a hail of bullets... and thus ends your life in the wasteland..."
The old style 3d freaks me out
The perfect definition of "man im dead 💀"
brutal, I really hope the next fallout has a darker tone and doesn't take place too long after the bombs
YOU'RE BONES
One of the most brutal game over screens eva made
Went from such a dark message to just ragdolling with a blurred camera
POV you look at the back of the test and there’s a backside
this is creepy af
If other games has these style game over screens
Injustice: You Fought Bravely but you failed to stop the enraged Man Of Steel. He Burns Your Remains Until there is nothing left.
Mortal Kombat: Your fight ends here Shang Tsung and outworld has won the tournament. Earthrealm will now fall.
Batman Arkham Asylum: the joker has won. Gotham is doomed without a hero. (Titan Joker)- You Fought Bravely but The Monstrous Clown was to strong. Gotham Belongs to the Joker.
Spider-man PS4: You Fought Bravely but Tragically you Meet your end. The sinister Six Destroy the NYPD within hours after your death. Soon New York Follows.
Red Dead Redemption 2: After you died the Pinkerton's find the gang and executes everyone brutally.
“Why is our Hammond afk?”

Literally the entire fallout 1 gameplay on your first play through
"Y O U R B O N E S A R E S C R A P E D C L E A N B Y T H E D E S O L A T E W I N D S"
Please stop I'm not even 5 feet away from the glow yet
I had to search this after watching that hbomber video about Fallout: New Vegas because "you're bones."
thank you for mentioning where "you're bones" came from. I watched that video years ago and literally only remember "you're bones" and thought it was hilarious and have been trying to find it the last few weeks.
As someone who never played the original fallout, I bet this gave many people nightmares, or would at least scare them when this popped up lmao.
How wonderful, this video was uploaded on my birthday
Is it weird that I find this strangely calming and intriguing?
I don’t know why these were ever removed. Even in fallout new vegas these would of slapped. If you chose to side against the legion for example, the screen could of mentioned the legion takeover of vegas and mentioned the brutality people suffered, especially mentioning goodsprings. Or if you go against all factions and try to take over vegas by yourself, they should say something like “the courier who threw in their bets as a wild card did so bravely, against all odds, but they should of always understood that the house always wins”. Or something along those lines.
Modern Fallout: (depressing trumpet)
Old fallout: YOUR BONES...
What my first trip to the Glow was like...
Oh God...I just remembered my first time there. I barely made it in and then died. The horror...
@@Knight_Of_Eleum_Loyce Ooops sorry for that typo, i'm not form a country that speaks english so it's still difficult for me.
@@jebusspqr2121 It's fine. I'm just helping you out. Have a good day dude 👍.
“All that remains of the unlucky courier are questions and bones bleached by the cruel Mojave sun.
“You cashed your chips without ever knowing who put a bullet in your head.”
“Another soul betted, another soul lost, and so the House continues to win.”
“Despite your efforts, Caesar came, Ceasar saw, and Caesar conquered.”
“You went all in, and you paid the price. If only you'd quit while you were ahead…”
Should they make a choose your own adventure book on this?
Callan Alford dude I would so buy it
That would actually be genius
I know that Fallout 3 is often regarded as the pinnacle of the franchise...but simple touches like these death cutscenes demonstrate why the original Fallout will always be my favorite.
"Your bones are scraped clean by the desolate wind. Your vault will now surely die, as you have."
Honestly, I hope to see a remake of Fallout 1 and 2 in the gameplay style of the latest games, but with these kinds of details in it.
New Vegas is considered to be the pinnacle of the franchise by most I would say.
Fallout 3 is nowhere near close to being the pinnacle of fallout, I'd say fallout 2 or New Vegas are the pinnacle, but fallout 3 is the worst in the series simply cause of it's incredibly flawed story and world building
@@reneframe4395 even worse than 4 or 76?
After playing the games I much enjoy this method of fate/endings, I love how the differences in each one are subtle whether you succeed or fail, but still tell a thousand words in their simplicity
“Not even the carrion eaters were interested in your irradiated corpse” bro didn’t have to be so blunt with it
Honestly I miss this over just suddenly going limp and restarting. Esp during a story quest
First time I saw this, I literally said this.
"... F**k me game, way to hit it where it hurts."
That last one is pretty unfortunate. To survive nuke, monsters, and all. Only to perish by a wave of bullets from merciless beings.
I like how old games made sure to tell you were a chump at the game when the game over screens appear.
😬😬
You really feel like a piece of shit with this screen lol
The darkness of the after life shall await you now may you have more peace then you had in this world
Well I guess not everyone gets know what happens after they die
These are the monologues for Fallout 1’s game over
“Your bones are scraped clean by the descent wind. Your vault will now surely die. As you have.”
“The darkness of the afterlife is all that awaits you now, may you find more peace in that world. Than you found in this one.”
“Not even the caravans are interested in your irradiated corpse.”
“Your life ends… in the wasteland.”
“The radiation has taken its toll, your death was lingering, and extremely painful. Your adventure’s done.”
“You fought valiantly, but to no avail. Your twisted and ruined body goes down in a hay of bullets. And thus ends your life in the wasteland.”
The one "your memory remains...until even that seems to fade" made an impression on me back in the 90s
At least i made it Further than Ed did.
my favorite was "You fought valiantly, but to no avail. Your twisted and ruined body goes down in the hail of bullets. And thus ends your life in the wasteland."
i imagine a soldier in close room to room fighting, gunning down multiple enemies before getting shot himself, his gun still firing off rounds as his broken and coiled body falls in a hail of rifle and SMG-fire
Imagine being roasted by Ron Pearlman because you died😂😂😂
This death screen is so creepy. seeing your skeletons imbedded in the desert, tattered cloth on your bones as the afternoon sun gleams light on your dead corps. And the pixilated voicr and image dont help.
Second one is the most memorable for me.
Gotta love getting one critted by a small tunnel rat.
I miss when games did this, can’t some people make a game that has a style similar to 3d animated stuff like this
"not even the carrion-eaters are interested in your irradiated corpse"
DAMN!!!
There need to be more games with wrist-slashingly depressing death scenes. At least the over-the-top Dead Space deaths are a nice alternative.
Everyone who pre ordered Fallout 76.
"The radiation has taken its toll but no fear as another settlement calls for your help. I will mark it on your map."
Goddamit Ian.
YOUR LIFE ENDS IN THE WASTELAND
Honestly there used to be game overs like this that really made you sit a moment in reflection at your failure
Games are lacking this kind of brutality these days.
Love that last quote. Could literally picture it happening
%50 of the gameplay :
i love using this to prank call people and funeral homes.
Your fucked up
funny but really fucked up
7 year old cursed comment.
He owns a "fucked up"? I think you meant you're*, not your. Stay in school kids! 👍
