You forgot to mention the most important part of the satchel charge: You can get 3 of them a day from ED-E after passing a 65 skill explosives speech check, for free.
A fun way to use C4 is for stealth kills - as long as you have enough Sneak to reliably reverse-pickpocket one, you can go somewhere else to detonate it. The high damage makes it useful for taking out certain NPCs without losing faction rep, or if you're unable to kill them in one hit with your normal weapons.
I mean they don't even get mad if you just drop it at their feet. So long as you are hidden when you detonate them its a sneak kill. Same with the time bomb, but you need to be quick about finding a hiding spot.
I never realized how much fun the explosives were until I made my Chinese Infiltrator character and spec'd into them. Coupled with stealth made for a great combination. I'll never forget my final encounter with Ulysses. I placed explosives all over the room, dealt with him and then just stood there and waited as all of the marked men just got destroyed by the traps I had set up. Really the time bombs are only good if you are trying to assassinate someone like Kimball or Caesar and need to do it without C4.
Been waiting for this one. 👏🏼 As an aficionado of underused NV weaponry, I can confirm time bombs are pretty much only useful on a sneak build. But they can be pretty fun to start off combat with a bang and take out the big threat at the same time. High yield time bombs are great though. Pop a stealthboy and drop two in a Deathclaw nest for best results.
4:25 The timebomb sounds like something better used for reverse pickpocketing enemies, rather than use it as some weird timed handgrenade or delayed landmine.
Timebombs is made for sneak build. For example, you can use it in deathclaws cave and escape before it blows up, super useful with stealh boi against strong enemies. C4 is useful for sneak also. You can pickpocket it and detonate from big distance without getting a reputation penalty.
Time bombs are really good with turbo or implant grx. You can place a bunch of them in an area and the turbo will make it harder for enemies to escape the blast radius
c4 is also PERFECT for stealth mass-murder. If you can put c4 in pockets of few npc you can later destroy them in one shot. That was pretty fun when i during mr House run destroyed BS bunker. But before of that i put c4 in every soldier and then when they all tried to kill me i just press the detonautor. Thats was epic
@@Honor_and_Steel no they never despawn, dont worry. Items usually never despawn in new vegas in general, only under specific circumstances like when 3 ingame days passed and you sold an item to a vendotron or a merchant that item will despawn, but besides that items never despawn.

One way I was able to make use of C4 more effectively when I don't have access to a detonator was to use 'em in combination with powder charges or frag mines, especially against high health enemies like deathclaws or rad scorpions. You can also use time bombs but it's trickier to use.
I've found the best use of high yield time bombs is to use them to just get rid of inconvenient non hostile npcs guarding something. Drop one, sneak away, poof, they mysteriously disappear by the time I come back like magic.

At this point in my relationship with NV, I pretty much use weapons on the basis of novelty as well. High yield time bombs are pretty fun to play around with, so I like them a lot.
my main way of using most mines is how i use c4 most of the time. I place them unarmed, bait enemies i know have spawned or where they spawn, drag them to my wile e coyote trap and shoot it, always fun seeing them fly and sometimes seeing myself fly cause i used like 8 c4
Bro tbh the timer bomb (high version) is just massive dmg on early game (lvl 6), the actual way to use it is just setting a normal mine next to it, it will trigger both when anyone step near by them i usally clean quarry on lvl 8 with those mfs, just correct way to use it and go all way up to tier S
Honestly in video games I always considered mines as a sort of for fun weapon where it wasn't really a practical explosive like the grenade that you can just chuck and that seems to compliment your guns better. Although while playing fallout 4 I decided to actually try using my mins one time while I was out and about and found they were kinda decent when I had a little patience. So knowing how many explosives NV has I think I might just have to try a proper explosive run next time I reinstall the game and gives the mines a little more love.
I’m pretty sure the idea of the time bomb is to shoot the explosive once you drop it or wait for whatever it’s running toward you. It’s pretty good if you go with that. Mind you it’s still not as good as the other explosives as you can drop and forget.
I’m sure you got this in your ”to do list”, but I do wonder if you are doing any melee weapons list? Awesome content by the way. Haven’t played FNV for a while and this got me to play it again! 😊
You can find a time bomb or two in the Legion safehouse and I think that's it. One of the most fun I had was using a stealth boy to put a C4 in all the Legion pockets in Nelson and then climbing up to that top tower in the West of the town and pulled the trigger. The bodies went well over my head all at once and rained down.
You’re wrong about the timebomb. The high yield timebomb, while not really intended for combat has insane damage and explosion range. You can use it to basically clear entire large rooms safely(because it gives you the time to run away).
I feel like time bomb is only decent for placing in someone’s inventory when pickpocketing as it would give you plenty of time to get clear of the blast vs other placed explosives
pretty sure other explosives can trigger the time bomb, cant remember when was the last time i used them but i remember doing the cazador gun runners challenge with that combo
I don't think it's fair to rank the time-bombs as D-tier based on their timers. These are, after all, 'Placed Explosives.' Their role isn't direct combat, they're traps. Which, keeping that in mind, makes these both cheap, and HIGH damage. Even if the timer makes it a bit odd. Still, a tiny bit of sneak and these become DEADLY.
I think the time bomb has the benefit of not putting enemies in aggro or causing the player to lose faction reputation if someone is killed by it. I could be wrong though since I've never bothered to use it
Time Bomb is definitely screwed over by the fact that this is a video ranking these in combat, when really what they're useful for is setting it next to an NPC who pissed you off and then leaving town before anyone knows what's happening.

In Dead Money, you can get the vending machine code for the demolition charge from the computer terminal in the service route in Puesta del Sol.
Yes that is true, but most people usually go for the weapon repair kits after Dead Money.
I don't know if this is a bug, but for me the demolition charges turn into land mines when used.

Satchel charges are why I prefer to get the light step perk before I enter Lonesome Road. They are everywhere in the Divide and will fuck you up.
That is a fair statement they are very scary.
True knowing that satchel charges I think have the shortest fuse time out of all of the mines.
Tin Grenades are really fun, and any mod that gives them to Raiders and Powder Gangers as their hand-held grenades really helps the game.
