How to Make Classic Oatmeal Cookies - THE BEST RECIPE EVER!

  • These are hands-down, the very best oatmeal cookies ever! Just plain, oatmeal cookies! You can add in things if you want, but these are perfect exactly the way they are.
    Ingredients
    1 cup butter
    3/4 cup white sugar
    3/4 cup brown sugar
    1 egg
    1 tsp. vanilla
    1/4 cup water
    1 1/2 cup flour
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1/2 tsp. baking soda
    3 cups oatmeal
    For best results, wrap cookie dough in rolls in sheets of wax paper and refrigerate for a few hours before baking.
    Bake ~12 to 13 minutes (or longer, if necessary) in a 350º oven. If you have refrigerated them first, they should start to brown around that time. At that point you can decide how done you want them before you pull them out of the oven. Get a nice glass of milk, a plate of warm cookies, and enjoy!

      I have many happy memories watching my grandmama roll up cookie dough in wax paper to put it in her freezer. Even if it was just going in for a few hours to chill, I always knew it would come out so good and she would slice me a little piece to nibble on. 😁

    Made these couple hrs ago, also made them uniform in size before cooking (made them flat and round) and these are, hands down, the best oatmeal raisin cookies I've ever made, and tasted. Chewy but soft, crunchy around the edges and buttery, sweet and savory.

I guess out of habit. I don't know what it is, but they are perfect. Not so chewy, more crispy. I loved them. Thank you so much. Next time, I will try without the cinnamon, if I can control myself. In any case, it's always good when you can find healthier alternatives to beloved foods that might otherwise be out of the question when someone is dealing with a health condition.

    I use it because I got too much oatmeal and wanted to find a recipe which incorporates a lot of the grain.
    Also, because I use old-fashioned oats from Costco, I poured buttermilk instead of water over the oats and let is soak for 15-30min.

    • @OldTimeKnowledge
      @OldTimeKnowledge  Год назад +1

      I think the trick you’re going to be looking for is make sure you have chilled the dough first and then when you bake them just bake them until they’re starting to brown and they seem done and then take them out and immediately put them on a rack to cool. Don’t leave them on the pan you baked them on. The air circulation around the cookies on a cooling rack will contribute to making them crispy. I hope you enjoy these!

    I can't have sugar so could these be made with honey ? Not just these but all your things that use sugar ?

    • @OldTimeKnowledge
      @OldTimeKnowledge  Год назад +2

      I've never done this so I have no personal experience, but I looked this up on Google and this link says, "Up to one cup, honey can be substituted for sugar in equal amounts. For example, you can substitute 1/2 cup of honey for 1/2 cup of sugar called for in a recipe. Over one cup, use about 2/3 - 3/4 cup of honey for every cup of sugar. This is because honey is actually sweeter than sugar.; Honey is a liquid, so you'll need to reduce the liquid in the recipe a little. Do this at a rate of 1/4 cup less liquid for every cup of honey used in the recipe.; Honey is also a little acidic. To counter-act this, add 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda for every cup of honey used.; Honey causes baked goods to brown more quickly, so reduce the oven temperature by 25 degrees F and watch carefully as the time gets close." If you try it out, please let me know how it goes. peachtreeroadfarmersmarket.com/chef-demo-recipes/sugar-to-honey-recipe-conversion-rules

      These aren’t supposed to be thick, fluffy cookies. They are supposed to be cookies that spread out and get more crispy, or if you take them out early they might be a little chewy. It is possible that your baking soda is past its usefulness in giving any lift to the cookies.

      Mine usually come out fairly flat but that’s because I like them to bake until they’re pretty flat because I want crispy cookies. 😁 If you bake them less time at a slightly higher temp then they might retain some thickness.

    I am very much a enthusiast as far as cooking and baking is concerned and your recipe is one of the few that seemed to make REAL oatmeal cookies instead of all this new trend diet or 3 ingredient stuff

      I am all about some classic cookie recipes. 😁Forget all the newfangled stuff, all the revised, simplistic versions of things. Sometimes you just want things made in a traditional way! 😃

      The 3 ingredient items are Never just 3 or 5 ingredients, they use that as a come on.

      Well, it could be a couple of things one, did you use butter or margarine or did you use a low-fat version? As far as it not baking, I don’t know what to tell you about that. That doesn’t sound right at all. 🤔 Even if you hadn’t chilled the dough before baking, they still would have baked, but they would have just spread out a whole whole lot.

    I noticed you did not put cinnamon in your cookie dough....I've never seen an oatmeal cookie recipe that didn't call for cinnamon.

      It calls for it. I don’t use it because I don’t like it in my oatmeal cookies. You can certainly add it if you want to, just as you can add in nuts if you want. 🙂

      Why so much sugar? Too much calories. Fruits are better. Looking forward to seeing a healthy version.

      I mean. Without sugar, what even are cookies? They're basically bland crackers. 😁
