Her three albums of standards that she did with Nelson Riddle (who worked with Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Nat King Cole and many others) are fantastic. This song is just one of the gems from those albums. Definitely check out anything from the albums, "What's New", "Lush Life" and "For Sentimental Reasons". Linda is a gift to anyone who appreciates talent and versatility.

I now feel that you are fully in love with Linda ... you have OFFICIALLY JOINED THE CLUB !
I first heard Linda Ronstadt in 1970, she had already recorded "Different Drum" with The Stone Pony's, and just recorded "Long Long Time" (one of my favorites, if that is at all possible). The first thought that ran trough my head was just how good she was, and then thinking "this girl is going to be a huge star" (my one and only prediction that came true). She was only mildly known at the time.
As time passed I continued to listen to her music and fell in love with her. I guess like most guy's at the time, if they knew who Linda was, they were in love with her. I know there is some Willie Nelson quote regarding this, but that came later.
In November of 1976, I finally got the chance to see her in concert, at the Universal Amphitheater in Los Angeles. I remember hearing that she was going to perform there and asked my friends if they would like to go. I got laughed at, as they commented ... "are you kidding Linda Ronstadt, fu*k no"; these guys were all hard rockers. Well my response was for all of them to go fu*k themselves, and I went to the concert alone. By the way, the best concert I've ever been to, no flash pyrotechnics, no rhythmic dancing, no over-the-top drama, just a great band with the best singer I have ever heard, making beautiful music. Just a joy to my ears!
Sadly, I have never had a chance to see her a second time, but her voice has been an integral part of my life, and will continue to be. So you see, if I come across a little or alot biased, well, it's because I am!
I know that many DON'T share this opinion, there are also many that DO ... but I believe that she is the GREATEST SINGER. I can't say of all time because, all time has not passed, but too me, she is! I will continue to joyfully listen to her music, and hope that she recovers, (perhaps a new cure will emerge).
On a sad and happy note, the fact that she's afflicted with such a condition just breaks my heart, but we can all be so grateful that she has left us such large and eclectic catalog of music. We are all winners to benefit from her immense talent!
Linda ... you are the GREATEST !

I agree with your comment, but I would go a step further…of all time. My reason is because she could sing any genre and make it her own.

The Ronstadt/Riddle recordings were masterpieces. Ultimately there were three albums' worth of this glorious stuff. Linda could sing ANYTHING...
Harri, you also like Karen Carpenter. Check out her 1975 recording of the 1938 Sammy Fain standard I Can Dream Can't I, orchestrated for the Carpenters recording by 1950s bandleader Billy May. It foreshadowed the Riddle work for Linda Ronstadt...

I think Linda Ronstadt's best song is "Dreams To Dream" which was on the movie soundtrack of "Fievel Goes West." Three more awesome songs are:
    1) Long Long Time 2) Look Out For My Love (Written by Neil Young) 3) Different Drum (With The Stone Poneys). Enjoy Harri B!

Another beautiful piece is “The Moon Is A Harsh Mistress” from the 1982 album “Get Closer”. Although the album has rock songs, the song “The Moon is a Harsh Mistress” is so beautiful that it brought tears to my eyes. Her voice is so pure and powerful that it’s hard to believe anyone could sing like that and I thank God I’ve heard it.

This is from one of her three album collaborations with Nelson Riddle. All three are full of gems but I can't recommend her performance of the Frank Sinatra penned "I'm a Fool to Want You" highly enough. It's not just her singing, which is flawless, but the arrangement which is delicate and haunting.

I'm right up there with you Harri. I think Linda can sing any style. Definitely in my top five female vocalists. I cannot pick which one I would choose to be number one. It's basically a time between Janis, Aretha, Linda, Ella and Etta.

... so pleased to see that you've featured this song, Harry ... IMHO we need to incorporate that flowing, gentle vibe of this style of music more and more into our modern lifestyle ... in order to find balance and peace ... good to see you spreading this vibration. Linda is of my generation, being about my same age ... and it is heartwarming to see how much the younger followers of music are discovering her magic. Blessings of the day to you, Harry.

She did two or three albums of old standards with the Nelson Riddle Orchestra. Two of my favorites are "Straighten up and Fly Right" (another Nat King Cole song) and her version of " 'Round Midnight" is absolutely haunting and memorable.

This is from For Sentimental Reasons album. The last of the 3. They combined for sales of over 7 million copies, critical acclaim, and 2 Grammy nominations. She didn't win but the competition was very tight back in the early-mid 80's.

The King Cole Trio recorded it in 1946. It wasn’t the first recording of the song, though. Countless covers have been done. Linda’s cover is very well done, but that’s exactly what I would expect from her!
