As someone else mentioned, this performance was at a prison -- Tennessee State Prison -- and the audience is prison inmates. Johnny Cash was the main act, and he brought Linda on as a guest. The audience probably had only seen someone who looks as good as Linda Ronstadt on TV, so this must have been quite a treat. The guy playing lead guitar in Linda's band is Andrew Gold, who had a solo career of his own after backing Linda for several years.
"Lonely Boy" and "Thank You For Being a Friend". Factoid: Andrew Gold's mother was Marni Nixon, and his father wrote the famous score for the film Exodus along with several others.
Hey Britt, Linda Ronstadt was so versatile, she could do it all and not skip a beat like it was "nobody else's business!!!" Thanks for this reaction too!!!
She is simply a vocal legend. She was the most celebrated female voice of her time, and I believe, the best selling. I saw her in concert in a tiny venue in Boston. She opened for Jackson Browne (they took turns on that tour opening for one another, can you imagine?). It was a stupendous concert.
She started out rockin'! Do "When Will I Be Loved?" and the live version of "Tumbling Dice" is funky and rockin' and one of my favorites, "Poor Pitiful Me". She started out in the country/rock genre, but has never been in a box of any one genre. Back in the beginning, members of the Eagles were her backing band before they formed the Eagles. But I love her music! I love your braids today, too! ❤
Thanks Britt for Linda’s “Your No Good” If you really want to blow your mind go for Linda Ronstadt “La Charreada” from her Mexican Album. Most powerful voice. ❤
There's more than a little bit of Aretha in this performance. Linda Ronstadt is not only beautiful, but super-talented. Her music has inspired me for decades. Great reaction, Britt!
Also, You’re No Good was a huge hit song for Linda this is when she was dubbed the queen of rock ‘n’ roll. If you listen to the song, it’s about a girl who leaves a really nice guy to be with this other guy who turns out to be no good. “I broke a heart gentle and true for someone like you.”
One my favorite lady singers from the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s. I have all of her record albums in my collection. I still play her greatest hits CD in my car. Love her voice! ❤️ ❤❤
She sang country, rock, Spanish Mariachi, Big Band (Sinatra style), light opera, etc. She also was a big help in the formation of the Eagles as they state in this video where they sing together. ruclips.net/video/flLoj5qxURw/видео.html
You’re quite right, You’re No Good was a big hit and a staple of ‘70s radio. Linda didn’t just do different genres, she did different genres in the way they were supposed to be done. Still a lot of surprises to be found…and seeing your reaction videos are a treat in themselves!
I am grateful that I have seen her in concert many times. She was a rock and roll legend at a time when there were very few women at her level in rock. This is her band, so they would be surrounding her. Thanks for reacting to her. Always a fan.
I remember watching this on TV. Nothing Iike that flavorful live stuff. Awesome performance showcasing Linda's voice and her great backup singers and musicians. Stew going off on the bongos. Some of these guys are gone now. Miss them terribly.
Linda earned where she is and so did the band members (and BTW she picks them!). I am not sure what the comments about men vs women has anything to do with talent. Linda is fantastic and she is very versatile.
This actually hit the top 10 R&B singles in the 70s she also remade several of Smokey Robinson songs. Oooh baby baby, tracks of my tears. She also appears with Smokey Robinson on Motown’s 25th anniversary special.
Love Linda Ronstadt! She could absolutely belt a song! I think she just turned to play with the band during the solo. In a short dress, playing a tambourine, the shimmy is just groovin' to the music!
Back in the 70's there were mainly male dominated rock bands. Linda Ronstadt, Bonnie Raitt, Heart, & Fleetwood Mac where instrumental in paving the way for women bands. Linda Ronstadt has one of the most beautiful voices I have heard.
As Willie Nelson said long ago, "There are two kinds of men in the world, the men that have a crush on Linda Ronstadt, and the men who have never heard of her." - I say AMEN to that!
After a breakup: Hurts So Bad (catharsis) then this song (empowerment)- Linda Rondstadt could really connect to the emotions of any song and then make you feel them too.
There is a funny story of Linda Rostadt's appearing at the Johnny-Cash-Show... Linda was a guest on “The Johnny Cash Show,” which was taped at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium. And John's wife, June Carter Cash, was shocked by Linda’s wardrobe, or lack thereof. June wasn’t about to let Linda perform with John unless something was fixed really quickly. June was sitting out there in front of the stage, and she said, "That girl doesn’t have any panties on. She can’t sing with my Johnny like that." So they went over to the department store Cain-Sloan’s and got Linda some panties. After Linda put on the panties June bought for her, Johnny had some fun with the situation. Linda was coming back in and Johnny passed her and said, "Linda, you got your drawers on?" and she said, "Yeah, but I sing better bare-assed.” Now, that’s a conversation we never imagined going down between Johnny Cash and Linda Ronstadt! :-D
The backing vocals were originally sung by women. But Linda liked to change things up now and again. She was a constant on the radio during her heyday in the 7o's. And that was a good thing. Linda was part of the California sound, which blended country and rock for most of the decade. SILVER THREADS AND GOLDEN NEEDLES, TUMBLING DICE, POOR, POOR PITIFUL ME, and Ooh BABY, BABY are some of bedt songs. Linda and Smokey Robinson duet his song with magical results. She has admitted to have a little crush on him, which made their singing together a dream come true for her. Keep going and enjoy
You really shoukd view the 1977 live performance from Atlanta where Linda kills Tumblin Dice and You're No Good back to back. Its Linda at her absolute sexiest and powerful. Plus her backup band led by Waddy Wachtel on lead guitar is on fire in that video.
That's Andrew Gold playing guitar, he largely arranged & played most of the instruments on the recording of the song. As a solo artist he wrote & song the 79's hit, Lonely Boy & Thank You For Being a Friend.
Imagine being one of the criminals in this video and hearing this heavenly, gorgeous, talented creature repeatedly remind you that "you're no good." I bet half these jailbirds were visiting the prison chaplain the next morning, begging for forgiveness.
As you can see, Linda could do it all. By all, try Pop, Rock, Country, American Standard, Operetta. She could sing soft and sweet. She could punch it out with grit. She knew how to control her musical instrument. See truly respected her band. She could pick the best musicians, and I am pretty sure that they paid that back to her. Best example, the formation of the Eagles, with her blessings, and their appreciation of her. When she turns around, she is not turning her back to the audience, but it is to direct their attention to the band who takes center stage at that moment in the music. She is not the first to do this song. She was known as the Cover Queen. However, every cover that she did, she made it her own. In her own time, she was an influencer. She had so much clout, that she could do things that she wanted to do, but was contrary to what the big executives would advise. For example,, albums sung entirely in Spanish, as a tribute to her heritage. I, we, were blessed with the times when she could do her music with us to witness.
Britt, I am glad you mentioned Linda's growl. She was one of the very best at that. She frequently did that when she sang her loudest lines. She was always exceptional.
FIRST LADY LINDA! ... Did you Know ? Back in the day Linda was dating Governor Jerry Brown from California. He ran for President until he lost Bad in the Primaries. In theory Linda could have been FIRST LADY !!!! I remember the discussions about that. That would have been WILD!
In a documentary of Linda , Johnny Cash's wife said she was upset that Linda didn't wear panties on his show while singing next to her man....I appreciate these videos even more
Britt is SO PERSONAL in her interaction with her audience, that I literally believe that if I say something to her she will answer me during the video. And I swear one time she asked me what kind of cereal I was eating during one of her reviews and that scared me! I told her it was puffed kamut but I didn't tell her how delicious and nutritious it is
Britt, you are the absolute best for one! Linda Ronstadt has been the ONLY artist, male or female, to transcend country, blues, rock, classical (with Nelson Riddle), show tunes (Pirates of Penzance)and Spanish music (Canciones de mi Padre) in one, single career. No one has ever done it. No one likely will. Thank you for your reviews of such an iconic superstar.
“You’re No Good” was a massive hit for Linda (one of many). In fact, it hit No 1 on the top 100 US singles chart in 1975. It was written by Clint Ballard Jr (Linda rarely wrote her own songs) in 1963. She recorded it in 1974 on her breakthrough “Heart Like A Wheel” album, her first of many multi-platinum selling albums of that decade, that skyrocketed her into pop-rock stardom. She was eventually dubbed the queen of rock which she said once was “silly”. She was and is very humble about her talent as a singer. An interesting thing about this song that I have not seen commented on before is the second verse. Yes, it is a song where she defiantly declares her freedom from a bad man but she also disparages herself as well, Second verse- “I broke a heart that’s gentle and true, I broke a heart over someone like you, I beg his forgiveness on bended knee, I wouldn’t blame him if he said to me - You’re no good, you’re no good, baby you’re no good”
Later in her career Ms. Ronstadt was asked why she did not perform her older stuff. Her reply was "You can only sing your no good so may times'" You could say she was the Beyonce of her day, she was everywhere.
Love Linda's singing voice and how she sings, just awesome, love the song, if a man is gentle and true and has smarts then he will understand and take her back with open arms and go beat that man down because he knows that men like that abuse that physical magnetic power they have to ruin lives and they find pleasure in it
Love seeing Andrew Gold on the guitar. Wasn't aware of him until Lonely Boy, which I loved, and then discovered how talented of a guy he was (RIP). Played a lot with Linda and many others.
My Dad went to High School with her here in Tucson, AZ. I was very young when her name came up for some reason. (Had no idea who she was) The only thing he ever said about her was that she never wore shoes! 😂 Clearly always a free spirit. Makes sense as an adult now, knowing about her incredible career. Loved your reaction. 💗
Let’s not forget how pretty she was. Plus: Imagine the courage it took her to come out dressed like that for an audience of prison inmates. One of Linda’s other great rock ‘n’ roll performances was her version of the Rolling Stones’ “Tumbling Dice.” For something sweet and low-key, look for “I Will Never Marry,” a duet Linda did with Johnny Cash on his TV show.
aside from her beautiful appearance - this gal can SING! She can sing it all - every genre - including had done some opera. Vocal range is amazing. She can give powerful voice - or she can sing soft and mellow. She can go low or she can soar high with her vocals. Ms Ronstadt is most likely the most versatile female vocalist of her generation. An amazing talent. Started out in rock with the band - Stone Ponies, with several very good songs, before pursuing solo career.
I think this was the concert at Tennessee state prison so it was all men in the audience. Johnny Cash asked her to perform there with him. Other good songs of hers are "Blue Bayou", "when will I be loved", "Poor poor pitiful me" "TUMBLIN DICE" WHICH IS A COVER SONG performed by Rolling Stones and "Tracks of my Tears" another cover song which was performed by Smokey Robinson and the Miracles.
Linda's one of those performers who just takes all the air out of a room. Was there a band with her? I didn't notice. I was just biding time during the bridge waiting to hear her voice again.
So glad you finally checked this out. There are several live versions of this song out there. Each one as brilliant as the last. "The midnight special" with the lady in the yellow outfit is a particular favourite, if you know, you know 😉
Until Linda lost her ability to sing about 10 years ago, she had a voice that was incredible. This performance was her raw untrained voice that carried her from the 60's to the early 80's. Then, to think that vocal instrument got better. She was cast in the Broadway musical 'The Pirates of Penzance', where she went through vocal training for Broadway, because there is no microphone to carry her voice. She won the Grammy Award, for Country, new performer and best country artist, Rock new artist and best female rock artist, she won one of for Spanish language, she did 2 albums with a Jazz Orchestra leader Nelson Riddle, which earned them a Grammy for Jazz. Her trio ensemble with Dolly Parton and Emmy Lou Harris garnered a Grammy. This lady could put the grind into her voice for rock, sing pure for Country, Jazz, and Latin. She also was the girlfriend to then Gov. of California, Jerry Brown, though his Governorship cost him the relationship. She had an album cover with her on roller-skates. Late night comedy host Johnny Carson, always made (light hearted) jokes about her skating through the Governor's mansion.
I got to see her in concert in the nineties at an outdoor arena of about 25,000 ...I was fairly close ...she's so down to earth ...at one point a bug flew down her top ...she demurely turned her back to the audience and shook her top until it came out ....just a small interruption but it was between songs thank God...still funny though
Hello Britt you awesome beautiful today love your singing voice too great song great reaction by you too like always thank you for sharing this video with us love your youtube channel so much Britt.🌹❤️❤️👍
Linda and two of her original back up band Don Henley and Glen Fry were responsible for ushering in country rock. The two men went on to form the Eagles. Linda could and did everything and she did it well. I have my mom’s Prisoner in Disguise lp. My favorite thing she did was record Mexican mariachi songs paying tribute to that part of her heritage.
Willy Neilson said; There two types of men in this world, the ones that have a crush on Linda Ronstadt and the ones that never heard of her,,,How true!!!!
Britt, you're hitting all the classics from my junior high years! I just finished watching your reaction to Janis Ian's "At Seventeen," and now this. Linda Ronstadt was the real deal! If you want to hear early Linda, I recommend "Different Drum" by the Stone Poneys, the group she was in before she went solo. Another great 70's song from an incredible female vocalist is "Midnight Blue" by Melissa Manchester. Keep going through the 70's please! 😁
Nice version, good reaction. I always liked Linda's take on the song. I was surprised to learn it was first a hit back in 1963 by Betty Everett. It was on a collection of 60's soul music. Have you thought about reacting to old Motown or Philly soul music from the 60's? The music holds up quite well.
The guitar player Andrew Gold one of the best session players. He was in Linda Ronstadt’s been for quite a while. He also had several his records on a zone. If you heard the opening credits of the Golden Girls you’ve heard and Andrew Gold song he wrote that I had a big hit record with it
Linda was a hell of a singer, an absolute bombshell, and such an incredible talent. She could mop the floor with 99% of the so called “pop singers” today that all sound the same and can’t sing for *****.
Linda sang in many many styles and she owned them all
Including Spanish
canciones de mi padre is a good album.
Hey Britt, Linda Ronstadt was so versatile, she could do it all and not skip a beat like it was "nobody else's business!!!" Thanks for this reaction too!!!
You absolutely cannot go wrong with Linda!!! Everything she does is perfection 👵🏼☮️💜
She is simply a vocal legend. She was the most celebrated female voice of her time, and I believe, the best selling. I saw her in concert in a tiny venue in Boston. She opened for Jackson Browne (they took turns on that tour opening for one another, can you imagine?). It was a stupendous concert.
that is so cool you got to see her live!
I fell hopelessly in love with Linda in 1974 when I was 13, and still love her.
Same!
1977 at 17 years old for me. My friends and I went to see her in Boston and all I can say is my heart is still broken.
@@kerrylewis2581 I saw her in 77 in St. Paul MN, and again in 81 in Salt Lake City.
@@mikemaricle9941 I'm jealous.
Calm down over there
Fun fact: Linda put together a band for one of her records.... who eneded up becoming the Eagles.
What I love about you is that you don't do much introduction to the songs. You are very genuine with your reactions. Thank you.
Thanks Britt for Linda’s “Your No Good” If you really want to blow your mind go for Linda Ronstadt “La Charreada” from her Mexican Album. Most powerful voice. ❤
Thanks for this one. One of my favorites from her. She was one of the most versatile female singers of her time. Awesome singer and human being.
Linda was such a wonderful artist, so sad she's not in the best of health these days. God bless her.
This song was Linda’s great hit even though she preferred singing ballots she said in an interview. Love Linda!
There's more than a little bit of Aretha in this performance. Linda Ronstadt is not only beautiful, but super-talented. Her music has inspired me for decades. Great reaction, Britt!
Now imagine living at the time that music on the radio was like this all the time!
Indeed, I was there. I love watching younger folks experience what they missed that we know so well, and Linda....none like her.
My teen years, a poster of Linda greeted me every morning!
Hands down Linda is the best !
I had three major crushes back in the 70s. Ann Wilson, Emmy Lou Harris and Linda Ronstadt.
they are great!
One my favorite lady singers from the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s. I have all of her record albums in my collection. I still play her greatest hits CD in my car. Love her voice! ❤️ ❤❤
Love Poor Poor Pitiful Me and Blue Bayou...also her stuff with Dolly & Emmilou
One of my many favorites!!!!
You can really hear Linda rock with her version of Tumbling Dice".

Best female singer of all time.
100% agreed. (Hey, I’m also from East Tennessee, over here in Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg!)
I was born in 1960, so from 1970 to 1980 I was 10 to 20 years old and has the biggest crush on Linda 🥰🥰
You’re quite right, You’re No Good was a big hit and a staple of ‘70s radio. Linda didn’t just do different genres, she did different genres in the way they were supposed to be done. Still a lot of surprises to be found…and seeing your reaction videos are a treat in themselves!

Linda is one of the most genuine, nicest persons that ever walked the earth! A real gem !
Fun fact: Van Halen, known for doing covers in their imitable style, covered 'You're no good' on VH II, I believe!
No auto tune. Pure talent. No ego, gave it all..pure
Oh really? I thought auto tune was invented in 1658
Love Linda Ronstadt!
I remember watching this on TV. Nothing Iike that flavorful live stuff. Awesome performance showcasing Linda's voice and her great backup singers and musicians. Stew going off on the bongos. Some of these guys are gone now. Miss them terribly.

Now you see why she was known as a rock singer, prior to the awesomeness that was "Trio" with Dolly Parton and Emmy Lou Harris!!!!
This actually hit the top 10 R&B singles in the 70s she also remade several of Smokey Robinson songs. Oooh baby baby, tracks of my tears. She also appears with Smokey Robinson on Motown’s 25th anniversary special.
Greatest set of female pipes, especially Live. In a club or arena, in English or in Spanish, rockin' or crooning. Fine appreciation - thanks.
Love Linda Ronstadt! She could absolutely belt a song! I think she just turned to play with the band during the solo. In a short dress, playing a tambourine, the shimmy is just groovin' to the music!

This was a landmark song for Linda, it launched her into a much higher level of popularity. After this song she became a superstar.
I once wrote a song as an answer to this one. The gist was that she wasn't all that either and she got what she inspired him to be.
Linda Ronstadt is amazing. Btw love you with long hair.
I was so in love with Linda when I was a kid. 😂😂😂
As Willie Nelson said long ago, "There are two kinds of men in the world, the men that have a crush on Linda Ronstadt, and the men who have never heard of her." - I say AMEN to that!

Linda was the Biggest female rock act touring in the 70's... check out Stones cover of "Tumbling Dice"
She was known as the queen of rock n roll in her heyday in the mid 70s. You’re no Good was a number one song in 75.
In a documentary of Linda , Johnny Cash's wife said she was upset that Linda didn't wear panties on his show while singing next to her man....I appreciate these videos even more

Someone else already mentioned it. Her version of Rolling Stones track, “Tumbling Dice” is pretty good.

An interesting thing about this song that I have not seen commented on before is the second verse. Yes, it is a song where she defiantly declares her freedom from a bad man but she also disparages herself as well,
Second verse-
“I broke a heart that’s gentle and true,
I broke a heart over someone like you,
I beg his forgiveness on bended knee,
I wouldn’t blame him if he said to me -
You’re no good, you’re no good, baby you’re no good”
Later in her career Ms. Ronstadt was asked why she did not perform her older stuff. Her reply was "You can only sing your no good so may times'" You could say she was the Beyonce of her day, she was everywhere.
Linda can rock with the best of them...what a powerhiuse voice and yes back in the day all the guys tended to fall in love with Linda.
Thank you Britt for your reactions.....Heat wave I think is the strongest rock you can get from her.
Love Linda's singing voice and how she sings, just awesome, love the song, if a man is gentle and true and has smarts then he will understand and take her back with open arms and go beat that man down because he knows that men like that abuse that physical magnetic power they have to ruin lives and they find pleasure in it

One of Linda’s other great rock ‘n’ roll performances was her version of the Rolling Stones’ “Tumbling Dice.”
For something sweet and low-key, look for “I Will Never Marry,” a duet Linda did with Johnny Cash on his TV show.

I'll say it again, you have got to check out her rock hit Back in the USA. It's a banger just like this one and it rocks even harder.
The 1st time America heard the band, Later to be called "The Eagles" is when they were the backing band for Linda
one of the craziest thing is that The Eagles was her touring band before they became The Eagles as we know them.
Linda's one of those performers who just takes all the air out of a room. Was there a band with her? I didn't notice. I was just biding time during the bridge waiting to hear her voice again.
So glad you finally checked this out. There are several live versions of this song out there. Each one as brilliant as the last. "The midnight special" with the lady in the yellow outfit is a particular favourite, if you know, you know 😉
Linda could sing anything, any genre from country to blues rock and roll, ballads even spanish music and she excelled at them all
Until Linda lost her ability to sing about 10 years ago, she had a voice that was incredible.
BTW - She sang "You're no Good" to a roomful of prison inmates. THAT is SASSY! LOL!
As always, a great reaction! This one's definitely her "rock side" as you say. Thanks for this one!
Linda growls like that when she does the Stone's song "Tumbling Dice" too.
Willy Neilson said; There two types of men in this world, the ones that have a crush on Linda Ronstadt and the ones that never heard of her,,,How true!!!!
Linda can SANG!! Her original and yes a big hit.
Lotta my teenage friends had a Linda poster on their wall.
She shook it and we all noticed.
Those guys on the stairs were inmates at a Tennessee state prison
I'm not gonna lie we were all in love with Linda Ronstadt in the 1970s.
Lovely Linda.
Aretha and Linda is all you will ever need from female vocalists. Between the 2 they can do everything.
You should see the "Midnight Special" version of this, takes it to another level.
One of the best.
Thank you for getting to “Rock Linda”
You're No Good" was written by Clint Ballard Jr., and first performed by Dee Dee Warwick on Jubilee Records in 1963.
Her Heatwave rocks!
have u seen live version from San Diego 1975?
The guitar player Andrew Gold one of the best session players. He was in Linda Ronstadt’s been for quite a while. He also had several his records on a zone. If you heard the opening credits of the Golden Girls you’ve heard and Andrew Gold song he wrote that I had a big hit record with it
Linda was a hell of a singer, an absolute bombshell, and such an incredible talent. She could mop the floor with 99% of the so called “pop singers” today that all sound the same and can’t sing for *****.
