Fred Hoiberg: ISAIAH THOMAS Travels Every Time
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 20 окт 2024
- Fred Hoiberg went on a rant after Game 4 of the Bulls vs Celtics first round series in the NBA Playoffs, insisting that it's impossible to stop Celtics guard Isaiah Thomas if he's allowed to carry the ball while dribbling.

This type of hesitation has been a staple of the leagues best ball handlers since Allen Iverson. It IS a part of the game and is nothing new. Most of the "carries"in the video with maybe 1 exception are all unidentifiable in real time. If a referee can't identify it then you can't really call them and that is why these hesitations and change of pace moves have come to dominate the game. It's not a bad thing as these are not "undefendable" moves. It is a new fundamental in defense to not bite on fakes such as these and to learn the various fakes that offensive players use including pump fakes, in and outs, change of pace hesitations and head fakes to name a few @bballbreakdown
BBALLBREAKDOWN its palming the ball. everyone does it. no one really calls it.
BBALLBREAKDOWN can you breakdown the whole three step/ gather step bullshit? I don't get how the refs never call Lebrons travels cause some of them are ridiculous along with a lot of the league.
TheKillaMethod but nba rules and refs are trash
Where I'm from we call that a carry
Okay not gonna lie, based on this vid, Isaiah does carry, but y'all act like Isaiah THE ONLY ONE doing this.
Hopefully refs will try to catch everyone then
BSOLZ who else
jic333 almost every athletic guard in the lead
he does this more than others.
Biased opinion 🙄
If mah boi harden can do european continent steps. This aint travel. Come on cuhh
sneijder023 Fuk that shit bluh!
Two wrongs don’t make a right
Euro step is still 2 steps after you pick up your dribble. Did you not watch the video? It has nothing to do with feet. The argument is the ball stagnating in mid-air while dribbling. To be discontinued ...
lmaoooo
European continent? Europe is a continent bruh
Yeah I agree it looks like he's carrying everytime
Everyone does it even Durant
Don’t make it right fool lol
its impossible to police, too nuanced.
Muse Russell2
Suxiao Li yes?
smart move by nick sneaking in the advertisement in the middle so it cant be skipped
Arman Raider yeah he is pretty shameless when it comes to the ads
Arman Raider Everybody gotta eat.
Arman Raider These comments confuse me, I have RUclips red smh I miss the fun.
xx Adrian xx It's the seat geek sponsor on this channel
Arman Raider lmao at least he's the only advertiser I can't get annoyed at.
If we slowed everyone's game like this we'd find 100 travels a game lolol
yeah, even my man kemba dd this a lot of time. hes just to quick that the refs cant notice
kawhi is super guilty, and I'm POSITIVE he knows how many extra steps he takes
You are missing the point here, its true that everybody in the League do that and If the refs call it everytime the game would be boring and slow, but the frequency that Isaiah does that makes him impossible to be guard so when this infraction is obvious the refs should call it
that's the point. it's all a scam
leon scott also check out carries done in the 2000’s and compare.
Literally every single ball carrier does this in the nba. It's a joke, this shit gets called out at your local ymca.
@Tommy Bain I have to unfortunately disagree with you, I’ve played against some decent to good level ballers at the ymca, sunrise tournaments, or even regular park ball around my way and we’ve had sideline commentators even expose carries like this or similar ALL THE TIME!! It didn’t start or it won’t finish with I.Thomas.
It’s legal the ball is still spinning in his hand go check the rules
@@emetechad4621 lol, no it's not! Spinning doesn't matter.
Jim Marble 😂
Jim Marble I don’t know if your being a comedian or it’s pure ignorance that controls your thoughts. It’s in the rule book the fact that you didn’t even look it up screams joker. Watch the reply again the ball defiantly doesn’t rest.(stop spinning)
I was gonna suggest a video about this but as usual Coach Nick comes through in the clutch.
strikedizzle are you guys fucking serious?!?!?!?!? Fred Hoirberg and coach nick are fucking reaching on this one, Hoiberg shouldn't say a damn thing when he coaches Dwade who is infamous for carrying the ball when he is splitting the double team! Believe me! Isiah Thomas is not the only player that plays like this so y'all need to stop with this bullshit, y'all totally nitpicking on one player in this league, if your gonna say he is BLATANTLY carrying then point out other examples of other players that proceed to carry the ball as well but Hoiberg is salty and coach nick is inconsistent in his opinions!
Why wasnt Fred Hoiberg complaining during the first 2 games...Only complaining now because they lost.
ChuckieSawyers because he is salty and he is pointing something out that every player that can dribble a basketball does!
well said. Thats why his hesitation m0ve is so effective. IT is a great player though.
Let's not forget coach nick praises curry
Everyone carries in the league, guys like Isaiah and Kevin Durant just do it more often. Either call it ALL or don't. Every scorer in the league has their "unstoppable move". Lebron with the off-arm shove, James Harden with his extra step, Lou Williams with the 4 point play as he is fouled by his own screener, etc..
MeesterSun James does that fucking arm hook to draw fouls. Look at how the spurs defend him. They need to change some rules this offseason to stop this shit. It's basically turning into some and1 rec league shit.
James harden is the worst
Griffin always uses his off hand to push people when going up for a dunk or layup and Jamaal Crawford will shoot the 3 then sit down and slide back and flop it drives me nuts.
Melancholy how can you change it without taking fouls out of the game? Every player in the game draws fouls.
MeesterSun james harden stepback isnt a travel
Isaiah step doesn't count. It's really baby steps.
tuntuu Baby steps or not, it's illegal.
tuntuu yeah if anything James Hardens "step back" is travel
Lmao
👶👶👶👶🏀👣...lol
Killuminati AllThruYaBody get it he’s short like a baby
all them guys carrying and traveling bro
Terrall Doll Especially Lebron
Terrall Doll it's not carrying to move with the ball with your hands behind it... no matter how many steps you manage to take.
not in europe. only in nba.
drzitbag06 the game was made in America not in Europe.. moving as much as possible with your hand behind the ball even if it suspends your dribble is not a carry.
drzitbag06 if your hand is behind the ball but slight under the ball at the same time that is Called cheating.... cheating is when you get away with it. A lot of guys cheat. But if your hand is directly behind the ball you are fine.
You could say Isaiah is carrying the team
Alex Chase I see what u did there 😂
Jelani Ochoa wtf did he do?😂
Jelani Ochoa:
Answer: Forgot to put "say" in that sentence between "could" and "Isaiah"
Alex Chase not really Bradley just got the most points last game so you can't say that he is the only one that can score on the team
Alex Chase big time
If traveling and palming/carrying the ball was enforced The NBA would have to cease operations.
You're funny
Actually nba rules says the ball can be on the side of your hand as long as it still spins and doesn’t rest
@@emetechad4621 ye
that's why the NBA is a joke lol
@@kasyoi1545 NBA not a joke, however, fact is today's players have never played by the same rules that players played by in the 70's. Starting w/ Magic Johnson type players, the refs were afraid to call him for traveling/palming and soon every player got away w/ it. It's 4 decades in now where the rules have been overlooked. The NBA cannot start enforcing the rules the way they were in the 60's 70's - the players would go berserk. Imagine traveling being enforced - LeBrainless James would be crying for days like he did when called for 1 walking infraction during the finals vs Mavs in 2010. It's amazing how in every sport as the players/athletes get bigger and better, they find it too difficult to play by the same rules as Jerry West/Oscar Robertson/Clyde Frazier/ Elvin Hayes etc., etc.
nice video, i would be interested to see a video on whether all point guards do this or if its just isaiah
Will Watson same
most players
Will Watson Harden does it a lot too
Will Watson Most do but Isaiah does this so frequently that he should called out for it. He also gets away with double dribbling too
KD often do this
ALL guards dribble like that lmao and anyway if the refs dont call it its alright lmao
Emoji it shouldn't be you should call the game right .
No way Mike Conley dribbles like that.
"If the refs don't call it its alright."
Ok
Yeah every time I do it they call a travel
No, it's not alright if refs don't call it. If that's true, then clubs they play the league and pay their players if the refs are supposed to choose who will win.
This took me to a whole other level on traveling it's crazy how much people carry and travel
I know he does it and he does it a lot, but it's like what you said in your first clip. He does it so fast and quick that it looks like a normal crossover or hesitation. The only to tell whether he's doing it or not is by slowing it down, which you obviously can't do in a game. That's most likely why they miss all of the calls
Sam Blanchard exactly! These people are so dumb
Sam Blanchard what do you think replays are for? Refs slow film down ALL the time to make "proper" calls. Its literally their job to be able to
spot that shit
Eric Overström At your dumb? Do u think refs use replay to watch all their moves, the dont even use replay for alot of the calls, and you want them to use it for dribbling?
DDG's Buffys uh replays are used for everything, yes they are used for dribbling you fucking stupid thing
lol that guy has not been seen since you exposed his stupidity!
In this generation...facts plus evidence plus visual evidence equals hating
Bruh they are all carries and they are allowed unless they give a massive advantage, it was rule in the 1990s put in after shorter players such as AI complained and looked worse
The reason he doesn't get called is because he is still in a "live dribble motion" as long as you're in that motion you can take more than two steps, Russell Westbrook abuses this technique. Shit, even I do it.
Cammy Neutron. You
Cammy Neutron. No they don't call it because it's hard to spot and second he isn't carrying most of the time. When the hand is behind the ball you can take as many steps as you want as long as you are moving with forward motion.
this isn't about steps numbnuts this is about carrying the ball. doesn't matter if you have a live dribble, you cant carry the ball with your hand underneath it. you haven't played much have you?
JRLM that's kind of what I just stated, just dumbed down. 😂
oldfrend your hand behind the ball is not carrying. Period.
He's not the only player that does this. Kevin Durant, John Wall, Lebron, Russ. Refs will never change. If anything it will get worse.
I see a lot of carrying of the ball by durant too.
KD does the same crossover. and it absolutely is a carry every time.
Naw bitch John Wall dont do this
+El Goose the Original you're allowed to have your hand on the side of the ball
It's funny when KD does it because he's so freakishly large it's hella noticeable
Yeah basically every player gets away with this & the smaller the player the better chance of getting away with.
Why does the height matter then??
riceee. because smaller players are typically faster than taller guys.
Mizuuuwu cause they don’t like getting beat by a smaller player...
This dude got more carries than Adrian Peterson..SMH.
More than 6 lol
LMAO
Yet ap had 31 lesscarries then Eric in 2012 :}
The Lob Mob thats a good one. U get a W 😂😂😂
But Allen Iverson did literally the same exact moves and I, in my entire life have never heard anyone bitch about his style of play.
Celtic Bird
Celtic Bird exactly allen iverson did the same thing
But Iverson wasnt a fake tough guy.
Norman Powell what him being a "fake tough guy" have to do with anything? sounds like someone can't prove a point.
they outlawed iverson's crossover. stern made sure that he made the crossover more "legal". the super wide crossover that he did in college was effectively outlawed after his rookie year
We all took him for granted man 😞
It was his own fault
@@unknowninformant6730 why?
@@usersdksdfg no one forced him to play with that injury and he did anyways. Should’ve just did what Kawhi did and take time to make sure your body is right. Robbed his fans of his potential and it sucks
@@unknowninformant6730 let’s be real, the amount of shit he would’ve gotten from celtics fans would’ve been pretty crazy lol and kawhi has a degenerative condition in his knee that was caught because of that whole Zaza thing. IT and Kawhi’s situations are different lol
@@unknowninformant6730 who cares about the fans, he didn't get to reach his potential due to pressure from the Celtics and a mistake which must've sucked for himself, he served as a reminder for people to take care of your body and not sacrifice yourself for a franchise as the NBA at the end is a business
Didnt Iverson do they exact same stuff?
Jigolopuff Iverson did carry on hesiz but he never discontinued his dribble by talking 3 + steps
No
iverson did get his hand under the ball. he basically did an extended hesitation before his crossover. but the league outlawed it. but all the kids who grew up on the iverson cross over brought it to the NBA in droves. they had to relax the rule.
El Goose the Original Yeah i think I've seen Kyrie do this couple times
I never seen Iverson carry.... when he dribbles his hands is always cuffed on the sides of the ball... I've never once seen AI hands go under the ball when he crosses... Only Isaiah..💯
If you breakdown every isolation player you will see similar shit... Single him out because he's 5'8", if he were 6'3" we wouldn't even be talking about him.
Shifu Sage so does curry dame kyrie kemba etc
But did any coach talk about other star point guards no but they do it’s just when the play offs come people get pissed at small things (no pun intended) but that’s how the game is played , refs miss calls and players get away with it.
To be real, shorter players should hardly ever carry seeing as they are quicker and closer to the ground, enabling them to have a low enough dribble to keep away from taller players..
@@jojocapone4861 then why TF is the NBA average height 6'7 if shorter players have that big of an advantage?
Explain 3:02
Great to see the NBA is reduced to, “well everybody does it.” RIP NBA.
LeBron does this exact thing but worse, as well as many other players in the league. You can't call out one player for "blatantly carrying" when half the league has been doing it for decades
show a video of Lebron doing this but worse and on every single play like Isiah does lol.
Medical Kush did you try actually reading my comment?
ChuggyWoo i meant to say it too "Marv" not you bruh lol hence why i corrected my comment . If you payed attention you would have noticed it🖒
The way you be on the man D and everything he does 24/7 is concerning. I advise you seek counseling you are on a gay frenzy for lebron
Marv Lebron takes 3-4 steps before he dunks on EVERY dunk .
he isn't nearly as bad as Kevin Durant imo
i just watched jazz vs warriors game 3 a while ago, and realized KD carries the ball a lot.
Justin Fields its better than flopping..ask lebron the flopper king.hahaha
jerry james faunillan True but it's still unacceptable. The standards shouldn't be lowered because of flops.
jerry james faunillan actually it’s not better than flopping..
jerry james faunillan stfu warriors bandwagoner look at you bringing up LEGOAT
LeBron travels too. KD gets away with it all the time
Dillon Oliveto IT+LeBron together= traveling like crazy especially in the eastern conference playoffs.
Butthurt
He travel a lot in his miami days
The NBA is a league without rules!!
Kevin Queen. You're right, but people need to understand that carrying the ball is allowed in the pros. Some pros and pro coaches don't know that.
carrying the ball is NOT ALLOWED. i saw them call carrying on kobe a few times.
One call in a million. An unwritten exception to the pro "rules."
Its called a Pro_Carry.... come to a Rec gym with Semi pros and college hoopers, aint nobody calling this lol. We guarding them regardless.
#GellerMichael topping out at your local rec league is not the place to go for advice on this, I've seen and heard the patty cake deals between players in those league and #AalimElDay stating that it's an unwritten rule doesn't make it a rule. It's against the rules, they will get this fixed next year, along with the James Harden issue.
So let me sum up the entire video in a few words. Thomas traveled each time he touched the ball.
i dont think the hesitation is a travel .. i think hes just letting it get closer to the apex 3:20 before going nack to full speed
slowing down any play you will find some sort of violation or foul lol
I remember one thing that getting up high with both legs off the ground and not release or shoot is by itself a travel.. 3:20 is exactly that = 2 feet above ground, otherwise what're we gonna get to see ? = frog leaps during gameplay ?, lol
Also = 5:20 was a MONSTER TRAVEL, like, he did 3 steps without a single dribble
Problem though is as coach himself said = it's not just the player, not just the instance, but a WHOLE TRENDING for years to come in question
not true
Its in the title soo.....
Every play looks illegal when it’s slowed down 🤷🏽♂️
Do a video on the Rondo absence Nick!
Is it Rondo very underrated or the rest of the Bulls team overrated?
Daniel Maia The only people that can possibly be overrated on the Bulls is Lopez, Butler, Wade, and Mirotic. Rondo doesn't count, since he is injured, of course.
Daniel Maia no it's that the bulls choked XD
Daniel Maia wow 2 games and he got dropped by it4 and he's only avg. 10pts in 2 games and I'll give him the 10 asts. Rondo is fucking trash
But almost every point guard does this. The only reason it's more noticeable and effective by thomas is because he is so short and quick... It's really quite obvious.
ExGm Pockit no
Bruh im watching the wizards hawks game right now and wall and jennings are both carrying on their hesitation dribbles. LOL
very distinct difference betweeen a simple carry which everyone does and discontinuing your dribble taking 2-3 steps, then putting it back on the floor. not trying to take away from him, hes one of my absolute favorite players in the league, and i have been rooting for him since the kings, but let be real, hes getting away with A LOT
Bro there is no difference... You even just said it urself a carry IS discontinuing your dribble for 2-3 steps and you also said everyone does it.
Leaving in Europe I'm a fan of the NBA and not any team or player in particular. And I completely agree. Every pointguard or who ever is the main ballhandler for your team is banding the rules which is a nice way to say that he travells. But that freedom given to the best athletes in the world is what makes NBA so great. In the end the best team will win anyway considering the format of the best out of seven. But I much rather see a guy making a questionable 3rd step in the fastbreak before throwing a windmill jam than a perfect 1-2 layup or a guy getting a hand slightly under the ball before crossing his defender for couple of points in the paint than playing a game of hot potato until somebody has to take a long 3 because of the shot clock.
P.S. that last one wasn't about NBA's Spurs and Warriors but some mediocre european teams.
4:07 that shammgod move was legal and pretty damn effective. IT has a unique bag and style not usually seen which made him hated cause everything looked weird. But nah that's just how West coast hoopers hoop.
If you watch the same playoff games Wade and Butler do the same thing. Its ignorant to complain about IT4 "carrying" when every star does it.
Nick Sousa Rondo is just as big of an offender too... hell every elite dribbler pulls that crap to an extent...
Idris Burch yea man this video is bias.
Nick Sousa Hoiberg is coming off as a bit of a crybaby... Stevens could have complained about rondo when they were losing... collectively the celtics are beating the bulls... the bulls are trash and hoiberg is a trash coach...
not sure if you watched the game tonight but all of united center was shouting "Fire Hoiberg!". that tells me a lot
Idris Bruh i see you everywhere
NBA is entertainment business. More scoring and less calls means more viewers and $$$$$
NBA ratings down 14% in 2017.
Lol I pay for defense not scoring
is that just television viewership?
the real measure, is the money up or down?
I’d be more likely to watch it if the rules on travelling, carrying etc weren’r such a joke
wow! this is a great video that does expose some serious traveling from the little man
Remember... nobody follows the speed limit
IT's okay to cheat I guess
James Bond cops also exceed speed limits to stop people that exceed speed limit.
Yep and the more you exceed the limit the more likely you will get caught. Thomas is wayyyyyy over the limit.
The script was beautiful on this one, coach. You subtly jab at IT, the NBA, and the refs while essentially proving Hoidberg was right. That's why I continue to click on your thumbnails. Your a true fountain of basketball knowledge.
Demetrios Hilton Hoiberg is whiny
Uh, you do realize that Wade and Butler do the same shit, as well. Right?
Enjoy: twitter.com/ESPNForsberg/status/856677432803418112
Demetrios Hilton They probably spotted what Isaiah's been doing and are saying to each other then we have to fight fire with 🔥
not one of those people you mentioned care about a 'jab'
lol wtf, this was so bad. he was TRYING to sound unbiased, but it was too obvious he was rooting for Hoiberg. He has to look at both sides.
You can make the ball have an upward motion by having your hand on the side of the ball not just underneath.
That is the *definition* of traveling. He _carries_ the ball like he's nursing a newborn!
Look at it here: 5:17 - three steps, one dribble.
Just because he takes 3 steps and 1 dribble doesn't make it a travel. You can't dribble for every step you take in an NBA game, or any game of basketball. Do you know how pointless and ridiculous that would look.
3 steps and 1 dribble is very different from saying 1 dribble for every step. The former is a clear travel whereas the latter is a ridiculous (but legal) if strictly enforced.
My dude you could litterally come down on a fast break, dribble once, studder step 7 times in quick succession, then pull up or matter of fact do a euro step and its not a travel. Matter of fact next time you are in an officiated game, just do one hard dribble and studdeer step in place with the ball extended as if to crossover, then bring it in and pass it and see if it's called.
You can't stutter step 7 times without a single dribble in between. That's ridiculous - any competent official will call that a travels. Not to mention, that would look ridiculous and you'd make the top 10 plays of the week for all the wrong reasons. Basketball regulations are very clear my dude.
Kovacs Kovacs do it and see if it's called lol matter of fact a lot of guards do that studder step especially when met at the 3pt line on a fast break to set up the size up dribble. And James Harden does the whole studder step euro thing. I dont do that bc I view that as a travel but you can definitely studder step and continue to dribble no problem.
If Thomas traveled then Iverson did too
Iverson still the goat
AI has the reputation of carrying the team, not carrying the ball.
Lourdesita Guillermo both actually
Александр Гришин yeah I remember that! They're trying to do what Nash perfected which was sort of like bouncing the ball like a yo-yo
Cp3jordan95 that doesn't make any sense.
The NBA doesn’t call “carry and discontinue” anymore just like the 3 second rule inside is more like 6 to 7 second rule. It makes for a game with less stoppage in play and let’s the games momentum continue. But for players that are already great, this added advantage is just ridiculous. Fundamental Basketball is not being stressed at the beginning levels of play. The one positive I see in today’s players is the improved shooting percentage.
Three pointers used to be considered a long shot. Now high school players are proficient.
But all that being said, I’m an old school Basketball head from NYC who still enjoys watching it. 👍🏽❤️
But there only would be stoppage if the players actively seeked to avoid the rules while having the ball, which is nonsense. The rules make the game. There is a reason carrying and traveling is not allowed. It gives too much advantage on offense to the point it ends up not feeling like basketball, just a similar spor (feels like handball without a goal, a basket instead). Plus, the defending rules make sense only because of that rules. It distorts the game.
I see James Harden, Westbrook, Rondo, McCollum doing this. If they are going to call this, then they are going to have to be consistent with the NBA
TheLittleGuy4 I think that's the point. The bulls aren't playing the blazers, thunder or rockets. And even then, I've never seen anyone do it as consistently it egregiously as IT. I actually think it's exacerbated by his size. Because his hands are small and he's so quick, it's easy to overlook him basically cupping the ball. I honestly didn't think some of his hesitations were travels, he just let the ball all naturally instead of pounding it down, but the fake shot hesitation into crossover should be a travel every time
TheLittleGuy well this video was made because of hoidberg's interview
they haven't called it yet so clearly that's how it's gonna be all series. Bulls either need to adjust or keep getting burnt. all I see in these comments are butthurt Bulls fans.
Well... imagine if other players start using this shit, and how could you not be angry if your team lost to cheating ?
sthu its cheating and you wouldn't be mad if your fave team was up 2-0 and then your NEEDED point guard got injured and their star point guard is traveling?
The League doesn't call it, only butthurt fans and coaches have a problem with it. Literally everybody does it, this video's only singling out IT because the Bulls coached made mention of it. Fuck his players do it too!
jeremy brown it doesn't really matter who does it. It's in the rule book. They need to call it.
Please do a breakdown on Lamelo Ball carrying the ball non stop
thank you for reposting it
#INEEDSLEEP
lol
n i tot this vid got deleted because some "higher ups" forced coach to
Give the guy a break. He is just use to carrying things. He has to carry his team day in and day out lol.
Dondrey Taylor so he allowed to travel?
Zygimantas Tu You know whats a joke?
Zygimantas Tu No he's not allowed to carry but if they're gunna crack down on I.T. they should crack down on especially 2 individuals named Lebron James & James Harden as well as the whole fucking league cause they all be carrying😂
Dondrey Taylor and he has to carry his sister to grave too oh man so much carry...
Lucifer Morningstar edgy
This is horrible! Every player has their own unique set of tricks that if we broke it down frame by frame, we'd see that they broke some rules. Mj traveled by lifting his left foot first before taking his first step. Larry Bird carried, LeBron James & Harden travel at times. This isn't the 70s or 80s, which is my era. We were taught not to "cup" the side of the ball or put our hand under the ball "carry", it's the NBA and the ticket buyers want to see up & down action. If u want Bob Cousey type dribbling ( a player who was overrated) then go watch the the vintage game.
I've been saying this for year's. IT carries it each and every time he tries to split the defender.
Huh? Rule bending is breaking the rules. You either travel or you don't.
Bending isn’t the same thing as breaking
Random Person putting your hand under the ball is breaking the rules.
No it’s not. It’s toeing the line. Exploiting a flaw in a rule
kefkapalazzo1 actually putting your hand under the ball is a form of discontinuation of the dribble, just like grabbing the ball with two hands or dribbling the ball and picking it up over the shoulder, if you do any of these then continue the dribble after, its called a carry and you will get whistled by a referee and the ball will be turned over to the other team.. are we really at the stage where i need to teach people the rules of basketball?.. do i need to explain why 3 steps are sometimes allowed when and after you picked up the dribble.. there is something called a gather step, if your running up the court and pick the ball up, aka discontinue the dribble, the step that your taking immedietly when you finish picking the ball up is not considered to be part of your two steps.. its called a gather step because your gathering the ball as you step, once you finish the gather step, then your allowed 2 steps because the ball has been gathered and the dribble has "officially" been discontinued.. if you exceed the two steps then your travelling. Thats why sometimes lebron james looks like hes travelling, and arguably sometimes it maybe a travel but most of the times it isnt. Look at footage of Dr J cradle dunk, it looks like he took three steps, and he didnt get called, its cause it was a gatherstep then his two steps. What lebron does that is wrong tho and he does it very often, is he tends to slide his pivot foot before he dribbles as hes about to explode to the basket.. its very fast so usually it wont get called but its actually illegal..
Gabriel Garcia I didn’t mean in this instance I mean in principle
I've got a few issues with the NBA today:
1. The "and one" three-pointers that are really just the shooter flopping.
2. The shooter getting fouled and then pretending like he was in the act of shooting.
3. The carrying, as shown in this video.
Honestly isn't the players fault if the refs are not calling it and has been brave enough to impose the dribbling RULES.
These refs soft as hell
Daniel Maia how bout.. those refs are paid as hell ;-)
The Celtics have not been the same since they did Isaiah Thomas dirty.
If they can't bounce back this season with Kemba on the team. I'm convinced that they are cursed.
lol
you want a show? go to q fucking festival or a concert. this is sport. there are rules that he broke like a gazillion times. it kills everything someone worked hard for.
Sports have to be exciting, otherwise nobody would watch them. Imagine a game where they call everything, the referee would whistle every 5 seconds... This is nothing new, Allen Iverson also did that and he is considered one of the best dribblers of all time. And Sports have to be "shows".
Yes. Thanks coach for exposing this technique. It explains a lot on how he really gets in the paint.
BuckMarley you act like he is the only one doing this
In 2022, Ja Morant is the new IT, the new blatant carrier of the ball.
😂 tbh I didn't even know what a carry was until I did it
SenseiBoy smh
SenseiBoy You are not a REAL basketball fan
who else thought it said that he travels through time
I thought it was gonna be a video of IT basically talking about the history of Basketball till now
4:37 Come on Ref you we're standing right there 😞
smaller guards carrys the ball most often tony parker irving allen iverson
herry chechak Irving never carries it
Ruining YUAN it's been 4 weeka
I remember IT in the Celtics. He was so crafty.
But they wanted Kyrie, so they traded him. He's now a free agent and Kyrie barely did anything in Boston. I still don't get why they didn't realize that Isaiah was a much better scheme fit, and their offense was obviously working the best with no ball dominant players.
He not the only one traveling, double dribbling and carrying most of the players in the NBA do it
Yeah....I remember they clamped on AI for this YEARS ago. Gotta call it.
facts
If they enforce this rule they might as well ban illegal screens, Ticky tack fouls for reaching, and many others. The NBA has made a fortune off of allowing the game to evolve unlike the NFL. Holberg has lost every little amount of respect I ever had for him
this dumbass said we need to ban ILLEGAL SCREENS. NIgga DO YOU KNOW WHAT ILLEGAL MEANS DONT DO IT. TF. reaching isnt a ticky tack foul dude go play ball get off the interent
illegal screens are already banned, so is reaching, WHICH BY THE WAY IS A SERIOUS FUCKING PROBLEM NOT "ticky tack". If you ever played in an actual basketball league you would know theres nothing more annoying than making a calculated move to get your opponent to reach so you can get by them, but they reach too far to stop you, fouling you, and it not getting called. You should be ashamed to be a damian lillard fan, cause dame is very careful with his dribble and is one of the best at not carrying
Michael Gonzales AI would bring the ball out and up. His hand wasn't necessarily under the ball. At least of what I've seen
I’ve been a DIEHARD Celtics fan since birth during the Bird glory years of the ‘80’s.
That said, seeing this for the first time, Isaiah 100% carried the ball and Hoiberg was 100% correct.
Seeing it in slow-mo it is so obvious. What he should have done is take it up with the league.
Welcome to Cleveland you little traveler
d Con lmao
d Con and gooone
Then he travels to LA 😂
I wonder how many steps he travelled from CLE to LA before putting the ball back on the ground.
Welcome to Denver
5:32 literally a carry lol
how??
I can take 6 steps in between dribbles if I stutter step... and slow motion will always look like a violation. Isaiah is amazing.
Jordan Poole like “Why y’all blowin whistles now”?
the carries are real, all nba players do this. whenever I watch kd it always seems very noticeable
its bc KD has bigger hands, so therefore his hands wrap all the way around the ball when he dribbles it.
Never answered the question ? Just analyzed it
If the coach can call it from the bench I know the ref on court saw it. But it’s the nba and no one calls the game correctly
so lets punish defenders more by letting shooters get those foul calls on the screens above the three point line when they rip through but allow the offensive player to do this?? the league punishes good defenders now a days and thats why nobody plays defense. SOFT!!!! Coach do a video about all the protection offensive players get and how the league punishes defensive players and how it affects the game today vs before.
ACTruitt its a offensive league sadly
Imagine if he was coaching against Iverson.
Yeah AI was a carry machine. Even that vintage crossover against MJ was technically a carry. High School and college refs routinely called that type of crossover a travel.
When carrying and traveling were called, as they should be, if a ref even suspicioned either, it was called. Letting them go gives the offense way too much advantage, over the defense. This helps create more offensive "super stars", which get more people in the seats and buying merchandise, thus more money for the NBA, at the cost of the integrity of the game. Main reason I don't watch the NBA, any more.
But A.I. been doing that for a while
Lbj does this more than IT in my opinion
drakebelike BULLSHIT
LBJ travels are nothing like this. Lebron travels consist of him taking extra steps on layups or his travel hop steps. He doesn't put his hand under the ball take 3-4 steps and repeat it.
yep it's different. IT carrys, LBJ travels, they are different things
I have to agree, you can’t put your hand under the ball and drop your elbow it’s a carry, but without that he wouldn’t ever free up enough space to drive, he would literally disappear from the scorecard.
everyone travels & carries the ball.. especially the elite ball handlers curry, harden, kyrie. can't call out one guy when everyone in the nba does the same thing.. Literally picking on the smaller guy lol
people call out one guy (lebron) for traveling
Does Isaiah Thomas travel? Let me put it this way: United Airlines just sent him his lifetime Premier 1K Card!
It’s Sad that we haven’t seen him play at this level since the trades
Carry. It’s called a carry. You’re a basketball analyst.
Carry is actually not a real call in basketball, its a street term. the violation is traveling
Dan J. P Please tell me this isn't a serious comment lol
Ian Huang yes it is lol
Lol I'd like to hear him talk about james harden's hop scotch step back
EMONEY he did one already, it’s actually perfectly legal cuz he does it while he gathers
Coach I'm a Celtics fan since 08. And I just love to re-watch this specific video.
Nice video
Thanks! LOTS more coming up
BBALLBREAKDOWN always come in clutch! W
in NBA people break every rule in the book and nobody calls shit
It is. But I can understand why a 5 foot 9 guy would develop an advantage, but James Harden is garbage for his. When a coach has to call out a midget who subtlety makes his whole team of giants look like they all got took, I respect Thomas still.
Butler and Wade have used these exact moves in our series. Go to Chris Forsebegs twitter and you'll see evidence.
Wooooww a whole THREE plays!? in 4 games? 3 carries in 4 games? yea that sure compares to this 6 minute video of thomas carrying hahaha
found the bulls fan
The league is so soft wont even call its own rules.
The game would be better if every travel and carry was called because then basketball would just look way cleaner instead of devolving into streetball
I love Hoiberg! He is always so direct. His video breakdowns when he was at Iowa State were incredible!
More like: JAMES HARDEN is travelling every time
It’s more rampant now. Refs starting to call it a lot more.
I think many players do this that's why it doesn't get called....
It's a carry, not a travel
They both the same tjing
When I was a kid, some of my peers tell that im dribbling it wrong and the travel dribble was the right way but thats BS
The master cheat dribbler. He's simply the best at doing this stuff and making it look legal!
