  • This is the Keon Pde level crossing in Reservoir, on the Mernda line, with footage I took in December 2016, December 2018, January and June 2024. This crossing has since been grade separated, with trains running across the new Keon Pde bridge in June 2024
From December 2015 to December 2018, this crossing had:
    - Four Westinghouse Hybrid bells. The two bells in the middle were not programmed to sound. The bells on the outer signals were programmed to sound continuously until the boom gates rose
    - Westinghouse cross-arms
    - A mixture of marked and unmarked Westinghouse lights
    - Four Westinghouse boom gate mechanisms. Three had Westinghouse bases, while the one on the eastern side in the median strip had an unmarked base
In May 2019, there was an accident at this crossing, where a train struck a truck at the intersection, knocking over the boom gate mechanism in the median strip on the western side and causing significant delays on the Mernda line. Luckily, no-one was injured in the crash. The crossing was repaired, with the same Westinghouse boom gate mechanism being reinstalled, but for some reason the Westinghouse Hybrid bell on the same pole was replaced by a General Signals E-Bell. This bell was also not programmed to sound
By January 2024, the grade separation of the crossing was well underway. The intersection was modified and upgraded to accommodate construction works, with the entire eastern side of the crossing completely replaced and moved further east. The upgraded crossing had:
    - Three General Signals E-Bells replacing the Westinghouse Hybrid bells. The bell in the median strip on the eastern side was completely removed. The bell on the outer end of eastern side was re-programmed to sound out after the boom gates had lowered
    - Westinghouse cross-arms
    - A mixture of marked and unmarked Westinghouse lights, with the signals on the eastern side receiving LED upgraded Westinghouse lights
    - Two Western Cullen Hayes boom gate mechanisms replacing the old Westinghouse boom gate mechanisms on the eastern side, with unmarked bases. The Westinghouse mechanisms on the western side remained unchanged
    - Upgraded boom gate arms on the eastern side with folded tips. These extend when the boom gates lower and retract when the boom gates rise. This prevents the arms from contacting with the overhead sky-rail bridge
    - Cross-bucks with red rectangular backgrounds on the eastern side
The background song is 'You Had To Be' by E's Jammy Jams, from RUclips's Audio Library

Great video! Shame that crossing's being removed, kinda surprised they went ahead and replaced the gate mechs, bells, and lights on it though.

I think most of the Melbourne removals have equipment upgrades due to safety standards.

Now Habibi Suboofer and all his bro mates will be happy.
I used to be a delivery driver around those parts and have to sit there next to Habibi Suboofer at the lights pounding away at 4000 watts waiting and waiting at that bloody crossing. The lights were long enough and then just when it was your turn, the bells would sound, the booms would come down and you'd be stuck there for another light cycle next to Habibi Suboofer.
    Ahhhhhhhhhhh, memories.

@@adriandunne4382 I knew this wasn't in the USA because I noticed left handed driving instead of driving in the right hand lanes.
