Matt, what a great concept for a video. Meeting up with a builder that can show how they have enhanced their practices and benefitted from the Build Show. And Adam, what a phenomenal execution. It all gets covered up, but you built it as though it will be displayed in a museum. Great job.

Here in San Francisco when it’s 90°F outside it’s considered a apocalyptic extinction event.
I feel like this builder's journey exactly describes my own. I spent 2 years watching everything. As a first time owner builder, I just started laying my foundation this week and even created a manual of Matt's greatest hits. To my surprise, the old school subs have even been super receptive. We're all learning and building better. Thanks Matt. My build is in Charlotte, if you're in the area anytime over next 18months, would love to do a similar walkthrough. (We are building 4 more family homes on the same 50 acres lot!)

I love the signing thing. I was renovating my parents house about 10 years ago. On the back of one of the head casing on one of the doors I found "built for my daughter "X", love dad" along with the date. The date was the year the house was originally built. It was pretty cool to see. I

Wow, there is still hope for the building industry! It’s great to see someone that is actually interested in building well. Most builders I see today are only interested in building the cheapest thing they can throw up, and they act like minimum code is such an unnecessary burden on them. I’ve tried to educate a friend of mine that a builder here just outside Chattanooga but he always uses the excuse that he can’t do that because nobody else does and he has to compete. I like the boric acid trick, I did something like that a few years ago. My daughter and son in law bought a big house and the home inspector failed to notice the smell and damage in the attic from a major infestation of mice, squirrels, raccoons, etc. the previous owner had the access points for the larger animals repaired and covered up the mess with a new layer of fiberglass insulation but never dealt with the mice. We eliminated the mice and repaired all the places they were getting in then completely gutted the attic. When we put it back together we used blown in cellulose and I had him sprinkle borax powder into the hopper of the blower while were installing it.
You have helped me, someone who builds/remodels now and then, and new builders. Something to really be proud of. I've completely changed my opinion about a ton of things and baking in those costs for Zip and other things into my upcoming build.. I'm a BSEE (Elec Engineer in Comp Science) and have worked in IT for the last 30yrs, I love building new things with my hands and getting away from the screen. Doing it right the first time makes all the sense in the world. I've had questions, and just by watching your videos, every one of them has been answered in depth. Kudos!

I'm 25, grew up working construction where speed prioritized quality, however, you, alongside the entire Build Network, have become the best role models from afar one could ask for. I like how doing something simple like sealing nail holes becomes a whole "thing", basically because builders didn't give a crap for the last 50 years or so.

I love Adam’s attention to detail. What really bugs me is to see the careless approach so many companies and trades take in their work, slap it together, get paid and it’s see you later.

@@Pious-Inquisitor Sometimes, but it’s been my experience more often than not that people I hire do not provide the quality and attention to detail that they promised from the start. Consequently, I just do most things myself.

Don’t get me wrong I love his work. I just wish all customers could afford the best materials.However, 80% need OSB ,Tyvek, and regular silicone for gaps between crete and plate
There should be more videos of what’s really taking place at most houses.

That is a testament to Matts impact on the industry at large and to the individual builder. There’s no secret sauce here, just informed decisions and intentional design elements to meet a performance standard. I love that you give context to the reason for these kind of improvements to traditional framing. Some apply other places, some don’t, but it’s the exercise of determining the application and performance you desire and making the building work for you (your customer) or future generations.

In my opinion. matt relies heavily on his subcontractors and architects for new techniques and methods..he is a glorified salesman..I don't think he's ever built anything with his own hands

I'm starting a new home in the next two weeks. I feel like this vid is the culmination of a so much learning I've gone through by watching your channel, over the course of the couple years. When you think no one is watching. I can say i am not a builder. However, when working on my house. I think back to techniques and products you have talked about and that info sticks out in how I go about repairing or upgrading. Thanks for the education and entertainment.

From excavation to framing, electrical and plumbing, cabnits and countertops, toilets and towel rods. Starting siding next week. Cannot wait to upload all the progress and send you some content. Used everything I could learn from you and the build show from tips and tricks to flashing and wrapping for ain air tight seal. You'll have yo make a trip to the Adirondacks when it's finished.
Someone should really come up with a nail gun that automatically deposits a bead of caulking.
Filling up the nail holes after the fact is a lot of work and you’re probably gonna miss some.
Having a nail gun that just automatically seals after you shoot would be a huge win, also keeps the nail from corroding. Someone build this :)

Matt you have influenced how I look at things at my house now. This past summer I just got my whole house Mitsubishi ductless a/c with bight heat. I also did my whole house water filtration.

Matt thank you for the content you create. Because I saw your video about sealing, Boracare, and Boric acid to keep out air and bugs I talked to the builder then took those steps before drywall. Your suggestions also made me aware of many areas where additional sealant was needed. I feel much better about the seal on soon to be new home. You have also made me aware of some things I plan to do after I move it. Keep sharing great content.

Having owned houses many hundreds or years old, I appreciate the care and skills of those who built them. Craftsmen could only learn on the job, often travelling and working to build awesome structures. I hope the network possibilities today continue to help skills and technologies to develop.
Great video! It’s so scary to see are younger generation that doesn’t know anything when it comes to construction. I am only 42 years old and it’s scary to see what all is coming into the workforce at this time. I am a commercial superintendent for large commercial projects. And let me tell you there is not a workforce out there anymore. The days of seeing young Formans has come & gone and/or far & few between sadly. So to see younger craftsman is a great thing.

I'm sure someone has already pointed out that it was over 20 years ago that the bonfire tragedy happened. I attended the last bonfire, and was already driving to A&M when I heard of the tragedy. I parked on the grass, got out and started helping moving logs

Great project. Is ventilation much of a concern with a ductless system and a well-sealed building, or will door openings on busy days bring in enough fresh air?
The building being so sealed might be an issue, would probably be a good idea to have a controlled system to bring in fresh air.
even matt's house has that HVAC addon that brings in fresh air.
That building has standard garbage commercial doors. They don't seal when new. It won't be an issue.
Commercial buildings have fresh air code requirements.
So there is this really cool product that I think you and all the passive house builders may find very interesting. It’s called Lok-n-Blok and honestly, it looks like big legos. It’s used to compete with concrete blocks and wood framing. It is a stackable block that is made from recycled materials and requires no screws, mortar, and things of that nature. The reason I think the passive builders would find it interesting is because it is fire resistant up to 400 degrees f, has an r20 insulation value, and requires no outside sheathing. It has a a whole lot more features than that, but I figured those would grab your attention the most, lol. Seriously though, consider giving it a look.
