  • With FURIOSA upon us, I decided to revisit the previous Mad Max movies and see how they all fit together! For reference, I used the Mad Max: Fury Road prequel comic that ties Fury Road in with the events of the first three movies. In this video, I present the timeline uninterrupted then at the end, I chime in with some thoughts on the timeline inconsistencies / how well things really fit together.

One of my favorite Theories for MAD MAX is that Max's irradiation caused his cells to reach near perfect Homeostasis making him Biologically Immortal letting him be 80, 90, or even a Hundred Years old by the time of Furry Road and I absolutely love it, it gives him FAR more time to fester on his anger and hate, letting him be far more insane or MAD then one would be from such relatively short times in the Wastes.

It's the best post pox eclipse (that's what the kids call it) series IMO. I always wanted a post Judgement Day Terminator but we got Salvation and it was okay but not great.
This story has real lore. Miller is a true artist. An amazing story teller with broad skills.
Case in point: Happy Feet and Happy Feet 2. Two odd films. Especially the second one. Made for kids but also fucking nuts. And wonderful.
That might be considered a fluke if not for Babe Pig in the City. It's the most unique creative film I've ever seen. I LOVES it. I used to watch it with me wife. She loved the little kitten.

i always assumed that the nuclear war took place between the 1st, and 2nd film. So, by the time we meet Max, the Gryo Captain, Papagllo, the global conflict, had already occurred. In the Road Warrior, there are a few oblique references to this. Humongous says, we all lost someone we loved, which I took to be a reference to the global war and its effects. No one in the refinery for example, ever mentions any kind of organized, civil government or society that might still exist or be functioning either in Aus, or anywhere else. In the RW, we can we safely assume that what gov't that still existed in Mad Max falls between the events of MM and the RW and AS a result, of either a limited, or full nuclear war. In Beyond Thunderdome we see fallout from that event is still easily detectable in groundwater.
The timeline could look like any of these:
M.Max > Road Warrior > Global Nuclear War > Thunderdome
    or
M.Max > Limited Nuclear War > Road Warrior > Global Nuclear War > Thunderdome
    or
M.Max > Global Nuclear War > Road Warrior > Thunderdome

The timeline is even more wacky with Furiosa. The first trailer for the movie states that young Furiosa was kidnapped 45 years after the fall. Which means there’s probably another 20+ years until Fury Road. So Tom Hardy can’t be Max Rockatansky because he’d be in his 80s or 90s.
Which lends credence to the theory that this Max is the feral kid from The Road Warrior.

@colincooper532 Max grunts in road warrior. He's known as being feral. Doesnt speak much in 1 either. Hardys just imitating Gibson.
In Thunderdome, guzzoline is very rare. Cars are pulled by animals etc. They only drive at the end.
Max has been on the road for decades now.
      As for the feral kid.
He doesn't say "I grew up to be the leader of the great Northern Tribe... oh, and prior to that I cosplayed as Max for a few years."
That kid grows up to be a leader. He never sees Max again. The story is told.
He's probably added a few bits over the years. Exaggerated. Made the story better as he tells the other members of the tribe.
      But it's always his story.

Speaking of the conclusion part of the video (39:35) The world fell over 30 years ago. That doesn't mean that they aren't counting days before Mad Max 1. If anything the world fell years before the original Mad Max and that part of the world with Max and the MFP were the only ones hanging on to some semblance of the old world. For all we know the entire world was already a war torn wasteland during the events of the first film. Or, they are counting the days since a single event happened that caused the world to go to shit, that could have happened 10 or even 20 years before Mad Max.

Mad Max bible made an indepth 2 part video on it a few years ago. He would most likely make a new video after the release of furiosa since a lot of people still think that the new films take place 40 years after the 80s but it actually takes place 40 years after the 2010s.

What about the game? Some Reporters said that the new Furiosa Movie referenced the game, so its kinda canon, I dont remember the source but it has sense as we battle Scrotus, Inmortal Joe son, and its mentioned he killed Dr. Dementus, the villain of this new film.

Not to be an ass, but you left out the most important part of The Road Warrior (MM2) - the people didn't follow the tanker. Only a fighting force. The rest of the people went the other way ... with a bus ... which is where they hid the actual gasoline. The tanker was loaded with sand.

Great video I love Mad Max films and I've often wondered about the lore. It is a shame that Mel Gibson didn't do Fury Road as it would have worked perfectly in the sense of an older Max still wandering the wastelands that said Tom Hardy did a great job of playing Max

  • @UnrelatedAntonym
    @UnrelatedAntonym День назад

13:48 Ahh, yes tempt Max with the coast, a region he left after the first movie, probably for reasons. But also similar to in Fury Road when he knows there's nothing but sand wastlands in one direction, salt flats in another (seems the sea-level dropped, possibly the salt flats, at least based on the game)

i have always thought of max from fury road and the kid from 2 with the boomerang, the fact it says there they never met again yet helicopter guy and him are in beyond the thunderdome means its all a little fluid, and also, if you take the story as 10 years between each one, then that might put the young lad at the approximate correct age, leading to a now immortal Max that is multiple people wandering different parts of australia, would also explain his hesitnce to tell anyone his name, as he wasnt quite ready to put on the mantle of the road warrior

  • @Fykicoma

It got to my mind the idea to write an epic poem about the legendary mythology of Mad Max lore, something reminiscing the ancient civilization of Australia, maybe how some marine gods enraged by the greed of humans on oil took all the seas away from them leaving only sands and dunes. Narrating of the tales of the gods, the heroes (like Max) and the humans like Homer or Ossian

I also read a fan-based theory that Emil Minty's Feral Kid was Hardy's Max. Many clues in Fury Road hint at Minty beginning as an adult version of Max, and before he returns to become the leader of the Great Northern Tribe, he has many adventures. Gibson's Max may have become some Apocalpyptic knight or Samurai, roaming the wasteland while battling many evil foes. Thus, many "adapt" his look (the Bronze leather uniforms or pieces, including surviving look-alike V8 Interceptors). I know Miller has rejected this idea, but this fan-based concept tightens things up for the MM timeline.

I took it as the nuclear war distorted Time Space and by Thunderdome Max was close to 100. Those that were alive before the war are ancient having been closer to where the time distortion took place. Where events out in the wasteland moved at a different rate. So what seemed to Max as 30 years was more like 60 years out in the waste.
