    2-3 years of no movement… the oils in the watch would seize the watch and dry up. Rolex charges $400-$600 for servicing after that happens 😅

      For one, it's been decades that watchmakers have moved away from animal/vegetable oils to synthetic for lubricants and will no longer coagulate and thus not having your watch run consistently if not going to be worn is actually the better practice to not build fatigue.
      More importantly though, you shouldn't buy something that you can't comfortably afford the routine maintenance on anyways.

      Fr my $100 Casio automatically corrects itself once a day. I can also throw it 80mph into a wall and it’ll still work

    Every moving parts and also lubricants have a lifespan.
    Just think about that before throwing money at a watch winder.

      if your gonna wear it pre wind it, if not the drawer is a better option. pick 2-3 out for the week, 1 for general wear, 1 for up, 1 for the character that fits you. never leave them on the winder all week.

    This made me learn, expensive watches have oils for the gears and such. Like a car, no movement = tear down and re build.

    I would’ve used the word automatic instead of complicated because people don’t understand what complications mean. Someone would think it looks complicated doesn’t make it an automatic. Not even sundials the and day date with sandals and large slaughtgouse very tasty

    Never ask a guy with a Patek what time it is because he doesn't know. I'll stick with my $80 Mondaine quartz. Gains 2 seconds every 3 months.

      Bro I’m just gonna say rn that you’re wrong. There isn’t a single wrist watch on earth that has a precision rate of only 2 seconds every 3 months. The most accurate of watches can do .3 seconds a day, but that’s for the best watches in the world. You’re prob getting at least 2-3 seconds a day.

    If you have only manual winds or if you don’t plan to use the winder but your drawer, don’t buy a winder. Hmmmm…. I’m glad I found this hard-to-come-by info.

      I got mine for £60 had it a year and works fine
      Holds 4 watches on the winders and about 8 quartz/mechanical watches on the bottom
      Not as nice as this guys, but neither is my collection

    Quite simple, actually. A Watch Maker needs a watch winder in his profession. An ordinary watch collector or watch enthusiast does not need a watch winder.

    You will still need to reset the time when you get ready to use it again even if kept in an automatic winder, due to the nature of mechanical watches, the time will drift much faster than you would think.

    He fails to mention for those that don't know movement is what keep the mechanism of the watch turning thus giving it power as you walk the movement of ur arm turns the movement and winds the watch allowing it to turn all of its cogs at the proper speed keeping the watch telling the proper time, this machine simply simulates that movement to keep the watch in time during storage when the watch would normally be resting and losing its stored energy resulting in the watch being slow, this machine counteracts that

      It doesn't make the oil dry but since logic of mechanical things is a forgotten thing in our times, just a warning, you have to expect more wear than if you just left you watch on a roll.

      What's the difference between a watch winder, and wearing the watch, other than the winder being a much gentler, consistent movement?
      Some people, like me, never take their watch off, because they don't need to. But, human movement is much more shocking, and violent to a watch than any winder could ever be.
      This "additional wear and tear" argument is completely, and utterly, bogus. People don't even think about what they say, they simply vomit what they hear.
