Quilombo Rhythm: How Africa Civilized Brazil Through Music

This video talks about some of the most important cultural manifestations of Brazil, and their deep roots in Africa, primarily through music. Some of the biggest parties, the most famous Brazilian rhythms, and the main features of what can be considered the Brazilian identity, were shaped by the music that came from many different places in Africa, through the slavery process. With the mixing of different cultures, and the resistance against the slavery, we began to have what we can considered today as a essencial part of Brazilian culture, once was forbidden, persecuted, and stigmatized (as it still is).
This video contains excerpts from the ASM lectures "Semente, Cabasa, Baobá, Sankofa: Exploring the African Roots and Cultural Significance of music in Brazil", with three guest speakers from Brazil: Bruna Silva, Rogério Siqueira, and Floresta Lamp.
