Hey everybody! Hope you liked this video. I've wanted to make something about intros for a while, but I wasn't sure how to do it. This topic is really interesting to me and I wanna hear your thoughts on it too!

Everybody's giving such great answers :') MCR's "The End" seems to be the front-runner rn
Alfo Media yes!!
The band Slipknot have an intro track on every album that they have released from the looping of an interview from a charles manson documentary on their debut and one of the members greiving over a family member on their sophmore record to the lead singer reciting is own version of a richard nixon speech as industrial noise goes on in the background with a drum solo appearing half way through the track on their 4th LP all the way to their new album which was released last month where the opening cut is both intimate and big, dripping with both despair and hope as near the end of the track we hear the line "I'm counting all the killers", which is one of the first lines of the final track on the album makimg a nice bookend but also telling us what this album is going to be about. What i'm trying to say is can you please do a video on Slipknot?
Ha, the whole time I was watching the video I couldn't stop thinking about The End. Definitely an amazing 'Disney' intro and possibly my favorite opener period. The way it bleeds into the next track, Dead!, is absolutely perfect and those two tracks really set the stage for the entire album.
YOU SHOULD LISTEN TO YBN CORDAE THE LOST BOY
I WAS JUST ABOUT TO SAY THE END IN THE COMMENTS WHEN HE ASKED IM GLAD OTHER PPL FEEL THE SAME WAY. Also, i think Ultra Light Beam is Kanye’s pinnacle of an intro, just because once again it shows that this album is like no other before or after, and thats what i love about Kanye.
WESLEYS THEORY
I love that track, flying lotus did not pull any stops on that one
LOOK BOTH WAYS BEFORE YOU CROOOOOOOSS MY MIND.
But more seriously Wesley's theory is really great because it primes the various themes of the album in one fell swoop.
Honestly it's probably my favorite song of that album
This is my answer too
People who listen to albums on shuffle belong in jail tbh
Luke Berrie depends on the album tbh
I mean albums that don’t really have a story/concept and are just bangers like Die Lit are acceptable imo
Alex Dimitrov die lit still has and order playing long time feels like a beginning of an album
The fact that you've got Igor as your pp when saying this is fantastic. I commend you sir
But I have to
I like how Late Registration begins with "Wake Up, Mr. West", as Kanye's Teacher is reality checking his snoring student. And when he realizes that Ye's been asleep the whole conversation, The Teacher urges him to escape Dreamland, thus beginning the following track titled, "Heard 'Em Say".
One of my fav Ye albums 🙌🏾
Dang. I actually just peeped that. How he means "wake up" litterally as well as "wake up" like get woke. Das crazy
and the intro has that beautiful piano sample
“Kanye, did you snore on my glass? Wake up mr west, wake up mr west!” Lmao
@@MMCLLC7 i interpreted it like coming back from dreamland and back to reality just to talk about the problems black people have to face. Like a message of this is my life this is reality
Wesleys Theory has to be the most up beat funkiest and powerful intro track in rap out there
for real.
damn the transition from Wesley's Theory to For Free? is so good. that shit makes me levitating.
@@cleensbear i disagree. i love the song but there was no transition. it didnt even fool me.

Over “Dreams and Nightmares”? You’re tripping.

James Lee HIT MEE !
Absolutely perfect, I love that album so much, it captivated me instantly.
I think IGOR’S THEME does a great job setting the mood the for the rest of the album. Can’t really place it anywhere else in the track list.
Every song on igor is perfectly placed
igors theme is a great intro. one thing about it that sticks out the most is it has little chunks and clips of instruments and samples that are used later on in the album
think the "runnin runnin" alluding to runnin outta time. the "bah" vocal samples that are also used on thank you. "got my eyes open" referencing what's good. just a really cool way to open up the album.
extra points for slowly bringing in each element. starts with bass, then drums, then the keys and synths. really gets u ready for what's to come
IGOR´S THEME really sets the tone if u listen to the hole album the intro basically is a presentation of the album. It presents this mean IGOR that will do anything to get his love interest and it also presents us with the sounds coming in the album.
AGREEEE
I feep the same about Foreword from his previous album Flower Boy
In the flesh by Pink Floyd kicking off the Wall is one of the most grandiose and bombastic intros ever, really sets the scene for the album
All of their intros are fantastic honestly, speak to me was also really good and shine on you crazy diamond made great bookends for wish you were here....we won’t talk about pigs on the wing though hahaha
@@nickpage5015 Shine On You Crazy Diamond was the first song I thought of when I was thinking of album intros, and is probably my favourite intro of any album. Dance On a Volcano / Los Endos from Genesis' A Trick of the Tail is also a great bookend to an album
They're the balls
the movie makes it even better
Agree with In The Flesh
The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway is a close 2
I think these are pretty great album openers:
Igor's theme - Tyler, the Creator
Airbag - Radiohead
Is This It - The Strokes
Wake Up Mr. West/Heard 'Em Say - Kanye
On sight -Kanye west
I think Everything In It's Right Place, 2+2=5, 15 Step, and Burn The Witch are better album openers than Airbag
@@edgeworth097 Dont forget Planet Telex
@@jakeozzy4776 Planet Telex is good, but I prefer Airbag
Me and Your Mama felt like the perfect song to start Awaken, My Love! It has that slow build up you want in an intro at the start but when that shit drops, it hits hard.
I also think so, the beginning is kinda "modern" with the electronic hi-hats and after a long but rewarding intro it trows you back to the 70's like the rest of the album, Its doing a great job in setting the tone
was about to say that one. It also transitions people into his new style of music
Imagine if every song off the album was as good as me and your mama
Easily the best song of the album imo. Terrified is second
I tend to love albums/playlists that start with a slow build, but the first track immediately jumping in can be amazing too if done the right way

Dark Side of the Moon’s intro sounds like a trailer for the rest of the album, sampling little pieces from every single song on it and putting them together in what can be only described as the Twilight Zone Intro. It as the subtle ramp up to Breathe, the calm after the intro’s storm. Absolutely beautiful.
"Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" and the seamless transition into "With a Little Help From My Friends"
Exactly!!
I love that starting song just as much as I love Taxman.
yessss
Its brilliant but I still kind of think that they should’ve started the album with Lucy In The Sky

You can’t really beat Kanye on opening tracks for me. Dark fantasy, ultralight beam, good morning, we don’t care and literally everything else is absolutely top notch for me. Every track so perfectly introduces the theme and sound of the album
ON SIGHT. That's his best opener imo it's pretty genius
How did neither of you mention say you will
57wookie Say You Will has that quiet intro, a direct contrast from On Sight.
@@57wookie his most underrated track
No Church in The Wild is an amazing opener
Wesleys Theory, Give Life Back To Music, Everything In It’s Right Place, In My Dreams (Cudder Anthem), and The Illest Villains are all great intros
finally someone aknowledges the illest villains
THE ILLEST VILLAINS. i truly truly TRULY think that madvillainy starts with bistro. the entirety of the illest villains/accordion/meat grinder is just one prolonged prelude to the actual album
its dope that you included give life back to music, its probably my favorite intro to any album especially those first 3 chords
W for mentioning In My Dreams, perfectly sets the mood for the album.
Everything In It's Right Place really is the perfect intro for a perfect album
*Reads title*
Simple. Everything in it’s Right place.
It *is* the vibe. It’s the best song on the album. It enhances the other songs, most notably Kid A benefits from being right after it.
Mmm I wouldn't go so far as to call it the best on the album (for me, that's Idioteque). But its absolutely THE best first impression to an album I have ever heard.
The national anthem tho
How To Disappear Completely is the peak of the album for me
That is my fav intro of all time. Sets the tone so well

Travis Scott really nailed the intro to Rodeo with Pornography. T.I.'s monologue about Travis' life and a new wave in music approaching, topped off by Travis absolutely going ham on the last verse of the song. One of the best intros in modern-day hip hop for sure.
He nails all his intros The Prayer is my personal favorite
Timotej Zaversnik Travis always has the best intros for albums.
“Dreams and nightmares” though..
That album is so perfect
also don’t sleep on that stargazing puts you into astroworld and how it feels
I really like how Plastic Beach’s “Orchestral Intro” and “Welcome to The World of the Plastic Beach” perfectly sets up what’s to come with a sound that remains unique to itself. Honestly I just love that album to bits in general.
My personal favorites are:
The Doors - Break On Through (To the Other Side) [The Doors]
Mac Miller - Come Back to Earth [Swimming]
King Krule - Biscuit Town [The OOZ]
Arctic Monkeys - Brianstorm [Favourite Worst Nightmare]

it introduces the main topic so damn well, all the igh and juke ad libs and the general musical style that will take place on the album. he introduces himself, his vices, and says this is ur favorite album and its not even done. I think it follows the disney style but also in a way where he's saying yeah if you're gonna be annoyed here's my style and IGHs in full force so either you're hooked or you're like nah right away
WOLF - Tyler the Creator's opening track is called WOLF sets up the story of Camp Flog Gnaw and shows how his previous 2 albums to that start to connect to one another. It also sets up the feel of the rest of the album how it's supposed to be more jazz then the dark beats that Tyler normally does.
Yes finally someone mentioning this, what a beautiful yet funny intro
WOLF’s intro is hilarious. I do think it works well as the intro, though, and I love the production
David Bowie: five years
It introduces the story and sets the mood
My own bias comin through but I would put Station to Station as his best into to an album. I love Blackstar too but that one doesnt feel like a distinct intro.
Wesley's Theory off of TPAB. It sets the theme for a conceptual album while not being pigeonholed into solely introducing the album. It has a blend of the two types of intros you described. It throws you into the action, but in doing so says "This is what you should expect, have a good time"
Foreword by Tyler, Nikes by Frank, and BUSY by Saba still stand as god tier intros to me
Forgot about BUSY that song is absolutely fantastic
Also Igor’s theme is literally the characters theme and introduces the characters
Billy yeah that one too. I forgot about On Sight by Kanye as well
MG on sight is Kanyes worse opening track by far imo
Benny Bob i beg to differ. I love that intro
My favorite is Everything In Its Right Place. It's more of a Mission Impossible like track, but I think that it sets the tone for the album in such an interesting way. Every time those first few notes play, I'm filled to the brim with excitement!
I really like the intro to Illmatic. The Genesis is a great way of setting up the mood for the album.
omg yes. have you heard the orchestral performance of the genesis tho. makes me swoon
Facts!
It's like a warm-up to the exercise.
HEAT by BROCKHAMPTON. Somebody had to say it. In fact all of the intros in the Saturation series are amazing.
I love GUMMY, it sets itself up like a fairytale then slaps a fat nope on it
HEAT is an amazing song but it feels to aggressive for the feel of saturation 1
I think BOOGIE is the best opener out of the saturation trilogy
GUMMY> imo
heat’s the best brockhampton song imo. It’s a shame that it’s the first one I ever heard
David A sucks that we'll never see HEAT live because ameer was such a critical part of the song
My favorite intro is Wesley's Theory on To Pimp A Butterfly. It starts giving the base message of the album and sets up the subjects that will be elaborated as the songs go on, including the whole catterpillar/butterfly thing. Also its one of the most jazz/funk songs on the project and it gets you pumped up for what you're about to hear.
Lyrically, the song the song works as an excellent starting point on the life of the so-said catterpillar turning into a butterfly and start buolding the situations that will result on all the conflicts the character will face for the duration of the album.
It's funky, it's deep, it's simply amazing.
yh i said the same thing pretty much, totally agree
STARGAZING by La Flame, is an amazing intro to ASTROWORLD
"wish you would" by fromthedeepends
I'm just searching for this comment
Stargazing the GOAT

Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band is a pretty great intro.

ObjectManiacLewis 27 yep
I was gonna comment that myself
Same for Come Together.
Yes I was looking for this comment god bless
I think Ultralight Beam is definitely an underrated opening to an album because it’s probably my favourite as well. It gives you a false sense of security going into the second track meaning that the album isn’t one thing or another, just like the album cover itself.
ive always seen ultralight beam as a single that the record company forced him to put as the first track like 80's records but father strech my hands was the real intro
Wasn’t ultralight beam exposed to be the last track but since it’s tlop it’s the first
yeah, imo is the best kanye intro with dark fantasy and we don't care, and that made it one of my favourite kanye song, if not my favourite
It’s not underrated, it’s just that on sight and dark fantasy are better
Sherane aka Master Splinter's Daughter on GKMC
I love how the cassette player at the beginning signifies that the album is starting NOW (the equivalent in a film would be having curtains open up at the beginning which would signal that the show is starting now).
I love the dark, ominous, and mysterious production at the beginning because it makes you a little tense, and anxious to see how this album will end up. (Also, just the polish of the production at the beginning when compared to Section.80, just shows how much Kendrick has already matured as an artist).
The guys at the beginning reciting prayers in unison make me question how big of a theme religion/faith will be. Are their prayers lessons that we will learn by the end of this album? Or is this something simply to reel the audience in?
As the music stalls at the end of their prayer, we are then thrown right into the scene that the whole album is really based around. At that point, Kendrick just takes us on a ride through the use of his (f in') genius lyricism. It's a flashforward that gives us something to look forward to as the real story actually commences.
The end of his 3rd verse PERFECTLY transitions into the skit at the end of this track, which is one of the funniest, most entertaining skits you'll ever hear.
And the skit establishes certain characters in this story that we will hear back from again, and even the end of the skit PERFECTLY transitions into the next track.
Sherane aka Master Splinter's Daughter is the BEST track I've ever heard period. Fight me.
Best track, or intro track?

Those are some great picks, but does Last Living Souls really count as an intro track, because "Intro" is before it. (Honestly, I agree either way. Got me hooked immediately!)
@@person_people8134 yeah, I took that into consideration, but the intro isn't really a song. Just an extended interlude with weird sounds. Glad you liked my picks!😊❤

Cold Wind Blows - The Intro song of Recovery by Eminem
Kill you was such a fuck you to critics.
IGORS THEME is probably my favourite. This is a great intro track, as it forecast what the listener will be exposed to throughout the album both lyrically and musically
Some of my favorites:
Aphex Twin’s “Xtal” - This song immediately introduces a mysterious, yet welcoming sound and melody, and it’s coupled with lively hi-hats that make you want to tap your feet straight away, just as many other songs on the album will. The album takes so many different turns, yet this song being the opener somehow makes sense.
Radiohead’s “Everything in Its Right Place” - This is yet another album that takes more than a few turns, but this opener really sets the dystopian, melancholic, and utterly beautiful tone that carries on throughout the entire album.
Cocteau Twins’ “Cherry-Coloured Funk” - The opening notes to this song puts you directly into the wonderful, dreamy, textured soundscape that Cocteau Twins are so famous for being able to create. I could once again say that this song sets the mood for the rest of the album, but this is in reality just a fantastic song that will hook you and make you want to listen to the rest of the album.
Five Years by David Bowie

Baby Pluto, the way the beat drop doesn't happen but you're still anticipating it is amazing especially with the long wait for the actual album Eternal Atake, I also think this song is fire. I applaud this intro a lot.
The End by MCR, it does a great job at introducing the story "now, come on come all to this tragic affair, wipe off that makeup, What's in is despair" has roaring guitars and like I said really gives a solid foundation for what would lead into the second track "Dead!"

Wesley's Theory is both of these things
Rehab on Back To Black is a great intro, throws you right into the topics and themes of the album, with dark lyricism over brightish pop production by Mark Ronson.

"Somewhat Damaged" on NIN's The Fragile is the greatest opening to any album I've ever heard
Ethan Northup Mr. Self Destruct too.
Ethan Northup lesss gooooo and shit mirror
Either Wesley’s Theory or Dark Fantasy are probably my favourite album intros. Not only are they both amazing pieces of music, but both come in and set the tone for the album. In Wesley’s Theory, the sample slowly fades in with the clicks and pops of a vinyl and sings lyrics of black empowerment, a theme that is found throughout the album. Dark Fantasy comes in with layers of mellow vocals underneath Nicki Manaj’s reading of this story. Then a voice calls out “Can we get much higher?” Over lush piano and strings. The use of vocals as an instrument, the lushness, and maximalist production all find there way on every song in the album and helps tie the record together. Both are definitely more Disney. Both have amazing build ups, climaxes, and resolutions and they both want to show you what’s to come.
For Whom the Bell Tolls by J. Cole. I just love that song. I think if only it was longer it could’ve been just a normal song but because it’s so short it’s good at being the intro. It really gets the listener paying attention. Another intro song I like is No Church in the Wild because it sounds so cinematic and braggadocious yet simple and not too over-the-top. Other album intros I wanna mention: Black Panther by Kendrick Lamar, and Nikes by Frank Ocean. They just get the listener hooked at first listen
my personal favorite intro is “Come Back To Earth” off of Mac Miller’s “Swimming”. this is because it’s so honest, personal and very intimate with the listener. i view it as being very sad with a slight pinch of hopefulness but it’s still so beautiful

Take A Bow by Muse starts off Black Holes and Revelations and I think it's absolutely perfect to start it off, especially the end with all of the instruments that rose through the song finally meet the climax
I think ‘Anxiety - Intro’ works amazingly as the intro for JuiceWRLD’s ‘Legends Never Die’. The funny thing is I’m not even sure the exact reason why. But when first listening to the album it made sure I was in the right mood and ready to listen. And then it slips right into Conversations and you’re off
“Five years” by David Bowie sets up the album really well
Some of my favorite introductory tracks to albums
It's Okay to Cry- SOPHIE, OIL OF EVERY PEARLS UN-INSIDES
Piel- Arca, Self Titled
Dreamer- Charli XCX, Number 1 Angel
Microscope- Emily Blue, *69
Geyser- Mitski, Be The Cowboy
Otherside- Perfume Genius, No Shape
Are You in Love? (intro)- The Regrettes, How do you love?
Heels- Sir Babygirl, Crush on Me
Hang on Me- St. Vincent, MASSEDUCUTION
The 1975- every single The 1975 album
Also will we be getting a similar video about album conclusions? I think those are also very important.
We Don’t Care is the perfect intro to an album, because it perfectly explains college dropout and is like a mission statement for the rest of the album
My pick: The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway, off the album of the same name by Genesis. You can practically see the scenes, the song fades in with a blistering piano solo, evocative of an aerial fly-through past the statue of liberty and a pair of under construction WTC towers into New York City to Times Square. The depictions of daily life of random citizens of nyc and the main character Rael make the world feel at first real and relatable, while the fantastical dream like imagery in the bridge cue us in that things aren't all they seem in this version of New York and primes us for the weirdness to come later in the album.
Also that piano work is just cool as hell. That cross handed debussy/ravel inspired tapestry of sound is the engine of the song.
One of my favorite LPs of all time. But I really don't like "It", the final song. To me, it just doesn't belong.
You Think I ain't Worth a Dollar but I Feel Like a Millionaire by QOTSA
Omg, yes. I didn't have much Rock music coming to my head immediately cause of this video and it's comments, but you reminded me. Probably my fav too.
I will never forget that opening riff as long as I live
I loved the drums on that song (and album) that I learned how to play the instrument
KLON radio;
We play the songs that sound more like everyone else than anyone else
I know it's an unpolular opinion but Professional the first track of The Weeknd's Kiss Land is my fav intro ever just cuz the lyrics, the atmosphere, the beat switch, it all feels so grand & so intro like, i don't really know how to explain it, it's like the Disney shit you said but without the narration at the beginning, cuz it sets the mood perfectly for the rest of the album, while being a top 3 track on the entire album
i really love the way Radiohead opens their albums, but my favorite has to be 2+2=5. It sets the tone perfectly for Hail to the thief, it introduces you to the political themes of the album, and it throws you right into the action with and exploding sound. Love that track.
Great video! I absolutely loved this
When I listen to an Album there is a high chance that the first song will be my favourite song as a lot of the time they are the most exciting and well crafted songs
My personal favorite intro is Shattered Dreams off of Some Rap Songs. The off-pattern sample with the drowned out strings give you such a good taste of what’s next in SRS. That along with Earl’s simple, yet complex lyrics and flow show what type of tone you’ll get from the album. I think this is one of the best openers to any album.
I love Good Kid Maad City intro too. Awesome video!
Thanks for making this video. Certain parts made me rethink what I was doing as an intro to my album. But then it made me realize that every album I make will be different & I like the uniqueness in each album you explained. Cause I feel like there is so many different GOOD ways to start an album haha
Blackened from And Justice For All has to be not only one of the best opening tracks on an album, but also one of the best thrash metal songs of all time
Brayden Liva Didn’t think I would see this comment on this video, but it was the comment I wanted to see.
Dr. Whoever by Aminé
Is one of the most underrated intros.
YES
Couldn’t agree more! Honestly my fav song by him
At least top 2 song on that album 🔥
My favorite album opener has got to be Metallica’s Fight Fire with Fire from Ride the Lightning. It starts with a beautiful acoustic intro, lulling the listener into a false sense of security. 30 or something seconds in, the intro ends and quite possibly the most brutal riff ‘Tallica has ever concocted starts and the thrash frenzy begins. It sets the tone for one of the greatest heavy metal albums ever. Revolutionary.
Oblivion by Mastodon. Perfect set up for their album story and the new sound they were utilising on crack the Skye, opposed to blood mountain and leviathan.
