Ive owned a 1979 15 since 1989 - it was freshly restored when I purchased her but I spent so much time on her that the mahogany bleached out so I gutted her and refinished all her woodwork. I resisted doing it for quite some time because I didnt want to convert her into a "bass boat" but I broke down and custom built a carpeted deck for the front end because as you know that area is difficult to utilize. Seeing other sports is almost like looking at my girlfriend in someone else's driveway. Beautiful job on your rebuild !!!
Just watched every episode in order. Quality work all throughout the project. ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT‼️‼️ I think Front bow railings would look great and give you a barrier when fishing at the bow, something to grab if needed. That is a hard to find boat, especially done over like that‼️🐠🐟 HAVE FUN. Vinny 🇺🇸
Pretty Sick! I live in Utah, Moved out here from Rockville, MD 40 years ago to ski. Just bought a sun damaged 86 Montauk. Gonna need to grind entire deck off and re gelcoat including non-skid. My family also fishes out of OI on our 27 Pursuit. Love those epic Bluefin battles. We enjoy jigging for them. The bite is like nothing else. Thanks for your series I learned so much. See ya out there.
That is freaking gorgeous. That console is very nice. Now that you have the mold you can make a few more consoles and sell them for a tidy sum. Overall just a very thorough and high quality job. Very nice videos.
Thank You! I’ve had a few inquiries about building some consoles but been too busy fishing. I’m selling (Mould) on Marketplace. Thanks again, please Subscribe
Total restoration and update are the words that come to mind for me. Excellent workmanship and everything seems well evaluated before taking action. Curious about the King Starboard thickness for the gunnel plates - 1/2in? Are you satisfied with rigidity. I really enjoyed this series, thank you for sharing.
Having been around Whalers my whole life and fixing up a few I had time to think this one through 😂.. The King Starboard was 3/4” thick (same as the Old Mahogany gunnel parts). It’s very rigid and so far held up perfectly. I purchased a sheet to do those parts $330? Shipped. I had some leftover that I gave to my buddy for his project. Thanks for the kind words and thanks for watching! I’ll be installing a windshield on the console in a upcoming video, please subscribe!
Chrome plated Brass hold down clamp. They were $12 each? WM has them for $19, try google. There's a Company called Southco, they make a Flexible hold down handle that could work also. Hope this helps, please give the thumbs up on the video if it was helpful, appreciate it.
Have the same seats in my boat except they have the higher back, love them. Yeah, you didnt loose much seat getting the low backs, not much different than the high backs.
The trailer is a Load Rite galvanized bunk trailer with a carrying capacity of 1500lbs. What I like about it is it has a Torsion axle. It towed great 1000 miles to Florida and back. I'll have a new video up in a week or so.
Not using O rings makes a lot of sense-thanks- On the drain tubes, did you use 5200 to just seal each the end of the tube? Or did you apply 5200 along the length of the 12 inch tube? I have seen other vids where the entire length of the tube was sealed? But maybe not with 5200?
Boat builders don’t use O rings either and haven’t for years. The Whaler fanatics will continue to use the O rings because that’s what Whaler used.. Whaler stopped using them years ago too. We applied 5200 at the ends of the tube as well as the area the tube would be inserted. The flaring tool does a great job of sealing the tube at the ends. Some people are afraid to use 5200 because they feel it will be impossible to remove but, if it’s failed how difficult could it be? It won’t be difficult, many tools available to get the job done quick..
How did you decide on the 2 hole up motor position? Your new lower holes don’t allow any further lowering. I am still stuck with the old Johnson blind lower holes and can’t raise it for now without drill and fill work.
That was the perfect height for my set up. Definitely don’t want it lower. The hole pattern is a little different on the old 2-strokes. I had to drill the lower holes for the F70.
They’re chrome plated Brass, you can find them at West Marine for $19.99. Whitecap is the brand. I found them online for a little less. Please subscribe!
It’s the 14 Gallon Moller tank, $197.. *Moeller makes a 15 Gallon that’s more expensive. Yes, it stays in place strapped down, it holds more then enough fuel for the F70, it sips fuel.

Beautiful work, love the minimalist/purpose focused aesthetic you selected.
Thank you! It was a fun project and turned out pretty good. Simple no nonsense or clutter.

For the front seat…What latches/clips did you use? That is a great idea!!!

Can you please let us know where you got the rigging sleeve? Great build. Thanks!
Amazon, 10’ length. It has Velcro much easier to install then the plastic rigging tube.
Subscribe, More Whaler content coming

The paint for the wood, what shade did you use?
That’s Mahogany with 5 coats of Varnish, no paint.
Awesome Build again, 1 question what the measurement for the wood covering the drain well.
Can you please post where you got the patches for front bench?
Latches

Which gas tank is this? Does it stay in place well with just straps connected to the cleats?
It’s the 14 Gallon Moller tank, $197.. *Moeller makes a 15 Gallon that’s more expensive. Yes, it stays in place strapped down, it holds more then enough fuel for the F70, it sips fuel.
What size boat?
