Julian is dancing and moving crazy hyper. Nick is jumping up and down like he is having convulsions but in a cool rock star way. Albert and Fab are there, but like shadow ghosts and Nikolai is Nikolai.
I've never heard Julian so clearly and so upfront in the early years. Makes the songs all sound totally unique imo. Not to mention the bizarre accent he's using a lot in this one. I still fucking love it though!
@@uvuvuevuevueonyetenyevweub5229 Me refiero que han mantenido el mismo modelo de guitarras a lo largo de los años, a pesar de renovarlas. No son de esas bandas que cada año cuentan con distintos equipos.
I don't really think it would have been a fit stylistically on First Impressions but maybe as a B-side or a bonus track at the ITI/RoF era would have been perfect imo.
Wish I could’ve been there 20 plus years ago. I just didnt know. It’s so rare that a band stays together, all original members, no great tragedies, still making amazing music for the people who love them! Here’s to another 20 years, I know I ‘ll be there.
Haha they used to play everything so damn fast. I think it was in part because of nerves. I get the sense that they aren't exactly comfortable on stage yet in this video.
+TheAucoin i agree. I remember watching In transit( i think????) or it was in an interview, but nikolai talked about how in the beginning, they all played so fast at every show because they thought that was the way to do it. But they started to burn themselves out
When you start a band, you get a lotta punks going to your earlier shows, and they expect higher speeds. More fun to listen to crap bands when they go fast too
2021 anyone? I love the strokes, and I love to see how they’ve grown and evolved through years... they have changed so much since this, I mean nick had his guitar really high, Julian’s voice is so different and they were all jumping around. And I’m not saying that was bad or that the way they are now is better but it’s really cool to see how they have changed.
I didn't believe that was Nick for the longest time! The way he was moving is somewhat similar, but the way he's holding his guitar yo. I don't think Iv ever seen him carry it that high before lol
It's true if you are a true Strokes fan you will watch this all the way through. When I first became infatuated with them back in 07' this was something I came across and I was hooked. To this day I still come to hear "In her Prime" So much love for The Strokes. They did it!
The stage energy didn't come down over the years, someone told those bros to bring it down at the beginning. watch "modern age" performed a year later live on conan. Unfortunately, the years of playing and touring together have brought down the passion they feel for each other.
they look so punk and fast in this video xD Jules' voice sounds like crap here because he was dancing and jumping around, but it looks like he's having a real good time... they all already were killing it, so original and raw! rock and roll!
I know it has already been said like a million times but thanks for putting this up, Pre ITI Strokes make me happy and sad at the same time, they have so much energy and excitement to them, it's just a shame I missed out on it. Waiting patiently for the fourth album. =]
Marxer the songs feel unfinished. I'm pretty sure he forgets lyrics. his rhythm hasn't settled down yet. I'm telling you, this isn't even his final form.
This kind of makes me sad in a way. I mean, Julian got really really cynical, increasingly, as the albums went by, so it's weird seeing him in like a rawer form.
He was always cynical, but that’s not why his style of performance changed. His way of performing turned into more honest and subtle gestures. Jumping and dancing around didn’t really fit the casual tension of their music.
Watching this in 2022 as a 34yo who has loved The Strokes since I was 13 and I cannot help but feel like a proud mom even though Julian is 10 years older than me 🥺

A great band's a great band. And it's so beautiful to see a segment of them at this time. thank you o.p.
I've never been so smitten with them as I am right now!! I'm SOOOO glad I found THIS! So young, raw, inexperienced--and it's absolutely perfect...✨ TY for sharing this gem with us! ☮️
