That friggin' intro was top notch, as usual! It's quite scenic in your area, too. I've been going hard on the Xbox the last few months, so I love this series. It's on the list!
Absolutely loved this game, it's hard but the combat mechanics are amazing ...Definitely could have been improved upon but the 2nd edition didn't do so.
@@TheNerdLair To be honest I only played it for a short time . It has better graphics and creature sounds. Your character moves much faster BUT , they really killed the atmosphere of the game for me . Instead of having the Irish narrator for the Orb voice, it's like they hired a girl off the streets to read lines. It don't make sense cause it's clear that they spent more time graphically . I'm guessing it had to do with the new publisher/maker not having connections with voice actors. I'm actually playing part one for the 4th or 5th time ..yes I'm screwed up possibly dropped as a baby 🤣 My wife has been watching me play old-school games lately so it's become a night time ritual for us . I am planning to give part 2 a real go through. I think at the time reviews were so bad that I was disappointed. I also wasn't playing games as much cause of my job and life changes.
YO! not something you may know because it's internal bs stuff Jaleco and VR1 are the same people, just the company was bought up and the name was changed. This was the first game I ever QA tested when my father brought me into the office and had me play it and explain how I felt about the monster spawns. I was six, I think ?
@@TheNerdLair I definitively feel more tactical than I did before, so my approach to them is entirely different if I pick up the game now, vs when I did almost twenty or so years ago. The game gets hard too, definitely a classic for the Xbox
Thank you for the kind words 😊 I've been on a break but am gonna be making content still. Just a bit burnt out from putting on a lot of work with little return.
I remember always reading xbox nation and seeing this game and the adds for it was great but i never play it. Soo i look it online and i found this great channel
Thank you for the kind words! If you liked this review I've done 8 other only on Xbox episodes you'd probably like as well :) more are coming now that I finally got a new OG Xbox. My old one stopped reading games 😅
Still got my original disc, even did the old toothpaste trick on it many, many years ago as a young'n because fuck I loved the game. Sadly, my OG Xbox (second one, my brother took ours when he moved out and it didn't survive, ended up buying a new one a few years back) died today. Buuut, I've still got my 360 and Xbox One, so other than the first couple of words missing from every conversation, I can still play it fine.
Is this available for the series x? I remember this being one of the first games ive played after scavenging thrift stores for xbox parts in middle school
Intro fire 🔥 and a fun David Carradine reference 🤣 I’m sold, tell me more Also candy in his van is how Scott got me….and oddly enough I don’t even like candy 🤷🏼♀️ Our friend Denis is color blind but it doesn’t really affect his ability to see colors too much because what he learned was blue is what he sees as blue so he doesn’t know differently.
Hahaha I'm glad someone found that reference funny XD and thank you, seems like I could be a thing color blind people can get used to, light gray is blue and dark gray is green? Haha
I just ordered this for £5 and I'm obviously watching a few videos about it to see whether I have wasted money or not. I think Peter Molyneux liberally "permanently borrowed" from this game when designing Fable 1, from the art direction and spells to the "aging" system.
Damn another game I’ve never played. Looks good, but I played Quest 64 and enjoyed it so that’s my fault lol Another banger of a review man. I see you blowing up in the new year for sure.
Thanks brotha! I hope so haha now that I have a new OG Xbox I'll be able to keep doing this series. These game reviews always get a ton of views over my other content
Did you know there is also a sequel to this game? Nightcaster 2: Equinox. You should do a follow up review of that one as well of you get a chance. Cheers!
Ooooh this comment tells me you didn't watch till the end XD faaaail, I mentioned and showed the sequel and stated it's not ONLY ON XBOX so I won't be covering it on the series ;p
@@TheNerdLair It was only released on the Xbox but not as an ONLY ON XBOX title, because it was self-published by the studio. (VR-1 was purchased by Jaleco as part of its [failed] bid to become a western publisher)
sorry tldr. i may be ultra nerdy for long comment. 🤷♂️ wish this would come to the backwards compatible store for xbox one, s, or x. it’s a shame it’s not on the xbox one store already, and available to play. i might end up buying an original xbox and a copy, or an emulator. not even sure which ones would work for this game. my computer can’t seem to run emulators very well. 😒 the gameplay was seriously so great w the spell variety and animations for spells was fantastic. one of my all-time favs. not to mention it was a badass take on getting to be an f’ing wizard. 🧙♂️ some games just have a very special aesthetic. the music, look n feel of menus and things like the mushroom 🍄 quicksave rings were special to me. absolutely loved the ability to move around the staff orb w the right thumbstick while moving the character w left thumbstick. didn’t mind the gauntlet feel for enemies and their colors and spawners, but would love if they even considered or thought about a remake, potentially w a new story variant (could still do same take fixing world captured in a veil of eternal night) and like a more elaborate world, w detailed monsters and enemies. maybe even factions of them idk. the boss fights were great too, but i’m sure if they did a remake in an alternate style, they might consider bosses differently. they were pretty great though already. they should get a writers board together for sure in order to do justice to the original, and consider how to remake the game the most fun they could, if they did consider a remake, for transferring the development rights to another microsoft endorsed gaming studio. i had a lot of potential thoughts how they could take the bare bones of this game, and could remake it in a fun way. a game of potential influence that came to mind was the witcher. being a wizard that had the ability to do potions and use utility items like explosives might be cool. if an enemy got close maybe could just kick or wack the enemy, without being allowed to draw another weapon. that makes might be comical, but still fun. *also, i had never got the chance to play equinox (nightcaster two). i really liked the idea of people being able to play a female protagonist as well, but however, i had favored the prospect of keeping the angle of using a magic-wielder ‘mage integrity’ for the character, as opposed to a sellsword type. i have seen tons of artwork portraying witches in a positive light, and didn’t think it any less enthusiasm as compared to a sellsword. being restricted to a wizard or witch, almost even had comic value to me in addition to being equally badass. i’d thought it was essential to the game to keep a magic wielder without other weaponry as an essential theme. maybe wands or brooms available if a witch themed character didn’t want to carry a staff. they already had allowed players upgraded spell strengths as the game went on. maybe they could allow for item exchanges or upgrades if a remake was made as well. things that worked well from other games that i could see working well for a remake (not limited to): - cutscenes - free roam to some extent w limits. like areas to explore w boundaries. dungeons and dragons on xbox was a great example of this style. - maybe battle other witches or wizards along the way? it could be a rare thing to encounter another magic user npc. - very seldom world or dungeon puzzles. “speak friend and enter” maybe throw one or two portals in there. why not. - could have the ai allies or npc’s tell a story as well just by being part of the world experience. maybe a team of warriors was only partially successful sealing off an area. - the world felt troubled as it was plagued w the whole night thing. maybe have one or two places that felt warm as well? like a refuge of sorts. reminds me of caldwell in eso. or if they wanted a place especially ethereal could throw in some spectres. idk. - optional areas and bosses to explore or encounter - some interaction w npc’s could be a good thing. wouldn’t have to be too elaborate. vendors are great. divsin had a great use of towns people could interact w. - wouldn’t easily take influence from games that harvest resources, but maybe could discover or fight to have npc or ai have access to resource bundles, and procedurally upgrade towns or ally gear. thought about valheim and the lotr games original xbox - etc.
if absolutely wanted to carry forward w a sellsword game, could have a remake of equinox as like a chaosbane type dungeon crawler to showcase a more badassery type of combat themed character
i guess it would be possible to have a left for dead type similar game or alternate mode where a sellsword slays hordes of baddies. up to the community and devs
When a video game youtuber leaves their house to make a video you can't help but be impressed
Hahahaha I'm pinning this, also I had to climb up a rocky ridge. 😬😬
