Nice. I’m glad I found your videos. I’ve had a 30 year old caravan for the last four years. Today bought a 2010 sprite major, tidy but a bit tired. I’m gonna try and make it look like it’s just left the factory!
I know your heating the panel.... but with spray cans, dunk them into a mug of hot (almost boiling) water and let the paint heat up, the spray goes on much better
A good repair to ABS, well done. In my (too many) caravan and vehicle repairs I always finished with an edgeless clear varnish such as U Pol 1K smart varnish and it protects the finished area for many years to come. Most aerosols are cellulose based and suffer weather damage in a short time leaving a dry finish. The U pol prevents this.
@@thecaravanplace Many thanks again. I have ten hairline cracks to fix as I can't afford the £9000 it will cost me to replace both front and back ABS panels on our Elddis xplore 304 ( I have already forked out for the full 10yr warranty & full servicing and taken huge care of the caravan - but Elddis's does not seem to want to honour their side of the bargain). The caravan is stuck together with tape at the moment.
Hi... you're quite handy with a tool in your hand Mark lol... sorry we couldn't resist.... brilliantly helpful video ... hope we never have to do it naturally lol ... take care 'The Camp Caravanners'
Cracking job Mark! The electrician in me wants to point out to people to make sure they have an rcd on anything they are using outside and fully uncoil and extension leads or they can melt.
Should do, the fiberglass filler will give lots of strength. www.amazon.co.uk/Davids-ISOPON-Glass-Fibre-Repair/dp/B0148WFX16/ref=asc_df_B0148WFX16/?tag=googshopuk-21&linkCode=df0&hvadid=208026936151&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=13127807976097066197&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=1006562&hvtargid=pla-712949187745&psc=1 That link should take you to the fiberglass filler then you can use the other filler to finish.
Hi love your videos, I am almost 55 years old and have bought sold and repaired caravans alot over the years , I was wondering if you can point me in the correct direction to become a qualified habitation inspection engineer and who I can contact to take courses etc
Google will give u most caravan colour codes. But to be perfect, remove a side locker door and take tona local car paint supplies. They should be able to scan it and mix the correct colour
Hi Mark, thank you for the video it was informative. May I make what is intended as constructive comment. You mentioned some grades of grit paper but not all. As a total novice I am not sure which gritting papers to use so will have to do some more research before attempting my repairs. Your video has given me the inspiration to do the repairs, I now need to acquire the knowledge. Thanks again
I'm good at giving half the info lol. 40 grit is very rough and a 1000 grit is more like a finish very smooth paper. Normally start with about 250 400 800 then 1000-2000 to finish off.
Instead of 40s use 80s it will leave shallower scratches in the filler and surrounding area, finish with 240s then prime finally 800s wet or dry before painting, it's also a good idea to key the area beyond the repair with a grey scotch pad, wipe area with a panel cleaner to remove wax etc. To finish let paint dry overnight and polish with G3 liguid paste this will shine the paint and remove any dry edges.
Great job. My caravan is 13yrs old and as a small dink in the alloy metal side. How do I find out what colour white the paint is? I have a Swift Charisma 550 2090. thank you.
Hull white should be the original colour, but if you remove the side locker door and take to your local car paint shop, they will mix to your locker door which should be a better match.
I used a mixed pre mixed spray paint from ebay. Hull white. www.ebay.co.uk/itm/154069870401?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=vCUOVO6VTdy&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=gsaSJsTxTaa&var=454199158307&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
Looks good on camera. A question I'm going to chrome paint my fridge shelfs is that something you have done in the past? as fridge parts aren't available any longer or crazy prices
@@thecaravanplace Thanks for replying. mine are badly tarnished and let down inside of our fridge so going to try a refurbishment chrome paints are available
for filling the crack you can make a plastic filler using lego bricks dissolved in pure acetone. the bricks will melt and make a slurry that you can then apply to the crack ( v the crack first) ps any crack in plastic or fiberglass needs drilling at each end to sop the crack extending
Fantastic job!

Fantastic repair. Xx
Nice job Mark 🦾🦾
Thanks William
Good job Mark. You would never know.
I always watch and like but I’ve got to say I was impressed by your repair 👍
It's not 100% perfect and if it was a newer caravan I wouldn't have attempted, but on older cans it's worth having a go.

Thanks for the info Mark. Any chance you could let me know what filler & plastic primer you used. Thanks.
They do a few different plastic fillers and all very much the same. The plastic primer was from Halford if I remember
@@thecaravanplace Thanks a lot mate 👍
very good vid, would this work on a motorhome?
If it's plastic then yes. 👍
Great informative video. What primer and top coat did you use? Thanks

Hi. Would you do the same process for spider cracks ?
Normally it's gelcoat with the spoder cracks, you can get a gelcoat filler and then paint, but they do tend to come bk unless really ground out.
Hi what was the paint that you finished it with ??
I used a mixed pre mixed spray paint from ebay. Hull white. www.ebay.co.uk/itm/154069870401?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=vCUOVO6VTdy&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=gsaSJsTxTaa&var=454199158307&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

How would you get rid of dents in a van?
Fill and paint, so car body filler, then flat and paint.
