Awesome top 10 mine are 1. Get Out 2. Phantom Thread 3. The Florida Project 4. Logan 5. The Killing of the Sacred Deer 6. The shape of Water 7. Three Billboards outside of Ebbing Missouri 8. Good time 9. Wind River 10. It comes at Night
Whoah. This is the best list I've seen on youtube and our tastes are similar. However, I'd definitely place The Killing of The Sacred Deer in there somewhere. Great channel, btw. Keep up the good work!
1. Song to Song 2. A Ghost Story 3. Blade Runner: 2049 4. Phantom Thread 5. The Shape of Water 6. Twin Peaks: The Return 7. Call Me By Your Name 8. Dunkirk 9. Good Time 10. Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri Really great list! 2049 is so amazing, a great number one pick!
I love everything you do, from book reviews to film reviews, you're one of my favorite. I can't believe that Denis Villeneuve is not nominated for best director on this year's Academy Awards, it's just disappointed. Great vid, and as I said before, is good to have you back :D
As always, amazing list Marianna really loved all of your choices! Here's my Top 10: 1.A Ghost Story 2.Blade Runner 2049 3.The Florida Project 4.Call Me By Your Name 5.Good Time 6.Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri 7.I, Tonya 8.Baby Driver 9.Phantom Thread 10.Dunkirk Honorable Mentions: Logan, It, Mother!, Coco, War for the Planet of the Apes, Get Out, The Killing of a Sacred Dear, Brawl on Cellblock 99, Wind River, Detroit Can't wait to experience another year discussing film!
Thank you :) I still need to see a few movies that made your list, they're proving a bit difficult to find, but I'm sure I'll get there soon. Love seeing "A Ghost Story" and "Blade Runner 2049" at the top of your list!
1)Blade Runner 2049 2) Dunkirk 3) Lady Bird 4)Wind River 5) The Big Sick This year was pretty great for film but Blade Runner 2049 was far above the rest for me, it totally blew me away.
Great list @ImpressionBlend! My Top 10: 10. I, Tonya 9. Disaster Artist 8. Ladybird 7. Baby Driver 6. Dunkirk 5. Logan 4. Get Out 3. Star Wars The Last Jedi 2. Wind River 1. Bladerunner 2049 2017 had a lot of great movies. I would honestly make a Top 20 but some honorable mentions for me are: IT, Call Me By Your Name, Thor: Ragnarok, Three Billboards Outside of Ebbing Missouri, Coco, A Ghost Story, War for the Planet of the Apes, Ingrid Goes West and Split.
I haven't seen four of the movies in your list, but the rest are really good. Nice list. Thanks Marianna. My favourite ten films of 2017 (actually my top 13 - as I have three ties) are:- 1. Beauty and the Beast (I went to see it 27 times) 2. Logan 3. Blade Runner 2049 4. The Florida Project 5. Wonder Woman/Borg vs McEnroe 6. The Death of Stalin [a UK Release] 7. Professor Marston and the Wonder Women/Patti Cake$ 8. Kong: Skull Island/Thor: Ragnarok 9. Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle 10. Wonder My many honourable mentions include: Dunkirk, Hidden Figures, Logan Lucky, American Made, mother!, Brimstone, Happy Death Day, Free Fire, Baby Driver, Split, The Beguiled, Get Out, Film Stars Don't Die in Liverpool, Detroit, Everything Everything, Battle of the Sexes, and Gifted. [Note: The Shape of Water, Coco, Darkest Hour, Three Billboards, and Lady Bird etc. are 2018 films in the UK.] I also saw last year (and loved) two movies eligible for last time's Oscars: La La Land and Lion.
1. Three Billboards 2. Call Me By Your Name 3. Molly’s Game 4. Baby Driver 5. Lady Bird 6. Blade Runner 2049 7. Girls Trip 8. Wind River 9. Coco 10. Dunkirk
I was so expecting like Call me by your Name or Shape of Water or Get Out or Lady Bird to be in the top two and you blew me away by actually calling out my exact top two, Dunkirk and Blade Runner: 2049. Not that there's anything wrong with those other films. I've seen Get Out and Shape of Water and they're both 9 out of 10's for me. But Dunkirk and Blade Runner: 2049 are so far and away my most beloved films of this year and the fact that you picked them means that I officially adore you!!!! Excellent taste, my lady. Excellent
Great list Marianna! Got some new movies to watch now. Bladerunner 2049 was absolute favorite and loved it even more after my second watch. Congrats on the new subscribers BTW. 🤓
1: Blade Runner 2049 2: Dunkirk 3: Star Wars The Last Jedi 4: Wind River 5: Baby Driver 6: War For The Planet of The Apes 7: Wonder Woman 8: The Disaster Artist 9: Logan 10: Get Out
Great list. I didn't agree with every choice but that's bound to happen. Like you said, it would be pretty boring if all our lists were the same. I honestly have never heard of Loveless but I will definitely look out for it now. Our top 2 is the same though, not nessicarily in the same order because it's too hard to decide which one I liked more haha. Dunkirk and 2049 were both incredible films that remind me why I love movies and why I want to make them. Both were masterfully done and blew my mind upon first viewing.
This is the first video of yours I’ve seen and you’ve gained a new subscriber! Love the way you discuss movies even in trying to keep it shorter very excited to see your more in depth reviews. Your list is great, 2017 was the hardest Top 10 list for me to make in a very long time it was an incredible year for movies. Here is my top 10.... 10. Get Out 9. Raw 8. The Big Sick 7. Mudbound 6. Three Billboards 5. Coco 4. Wind River 3. Dunkirk 2. War for the Planet of the Apes 1. Blade Runner 2049
2017 was probably one of the best years in film in my entire life 1. Call me By your Name 2. Lady bird 3. I, Tonya 4. Three Billboards 5. Baby Driver 6. Wonder Woman 7. Get out 8. The Post 9. Girls trip 10. The shape of water
Great list! Here's mine: 10. Phantom Thread (Tie) 10. The Florida Project (Tie) 9. Star Wars The Last Jedi 8. The Shape of Water 7. Baby Driver 6. War for the Planet of the Apes 5. A Ghost Story 4. Logan 3. Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri 2. Dunkirk 1. Blade Runner 2049
"Every day is a school day" as the Scots like to say, and do I ever need to delve into Andrey Zvyagintsev's films. Your comments about Loveless have me totally intrigued. I also enjoyed how much you admired Dunkirk. I, too, thought it was superb and was surprised by how much flak it took. Blade Runner 2049 was my top film of 2017 as well. Transcendant.
I think we all need a little Zvyagintsev in out lives, just because his films always make me want to hug my family and be grateful for what I have. They kind of work in reverse on me, I guess :)
What a surprise to see Loveless on your list. I’m from Russia and that’s a real pleasure :) Your pronunciation of director’s name is so perfect that I thought it was a voiceover. You should learn Russian :)
Wow, I have really failed at seeing a lot of these movies. I really need to get on it! Always love seeing your favorites. Now I have a solid to-watch list for the near future. Love you girl!
Great list! I was captivated by the Loveless trailer when I clicked on it here on YT some weeks ago. I was curious to see the trailer ‘cause it has the same title as one of my fave albums by My Bloody Valentine / Kevin Shields.
LOVE Blade Runner 2049 so much. Easily one of my all time favorite films! So thrilled you have Three Billboards and Raw on there too! Raw wasn't in my top 10, but I love that film nonetheless. Such a different coming of age tale and I agree completely that it was shot stunningly. Great list, Marianna!
Thanks Mariana. A worthy list. I especially like the fact that you go out of your way to remind people that it's okay to like different things. I've always thought it was rather juvenile of people to rant over others likes and dislikes. That's why I enjoy your reviews. And thanks for letting me know about Loveless, which was off my radar. Andrey Zvyagintsev is a great director indeed. And subtle. I don't have a list. I live in Alaska. Everything comes late if at all. And my little town has no movie theatre. Fortunately I've been traveling through Europe the last four months working on documentary about puppetry, so I did have a chance to watch Blade Runner 2049, The Shape of Water (this week) and even Dunkirk at an IMAX theatre! Normally though I can't bring myself to watch streaming videos. So I wait to buy DVDs and Blu-Rays after the reviews and dust has settled. Also I almost always find gems that no one seems to mention. That's why I watch folks like you. But really who else is like you?
My list consists of: 10. Personal Shopper 9. Get Out 8. Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri 7. Good Time 6. Phantom Thread 5. Call Me By Your Name 4. Lady Bird 3. Dunkirk 2. The Shape of Water 1. The Florida Project
Great video, as usual. I saw and liked most of these as well. I also liked Ghost in the Shell, Phoenix Forgotten, Sleight, Atomic Blonde, The Babysitter, Bright, and Genocidal Organ.
Denis Villeneuve is already one of our most talented living directors, and if his version of Dune turns out to be a success, he'll become one of the all time greats.
Nice list! I loved 'A Ghost Story' too and 'Mother!' is my absolute favorite film of 2017. I love divisive films. I get so tired of the cookie cutter crap that is released nowadays, so when a film comes out that challenges the audience and shows me things I haven't seen before I get really excited. In the day and age of non-stop comic book movies and uninspired remakes, it's refreshing to see films that have substance!
Thanks! Same here, when I hear a film is a love it or hate it I immediately have more interest in it - usually means the director actually took some risks.
Still have a few movies to watch before I have my top 10, but my rough draft top 5 Are: 5) call me by your name 4) the shape of water 3) Dunkirk 2) lady bird 1) Blade runner 2049 Honestly surprised the shape of water wasn't on your list, don't know if you saw it or not, but I felt it could've been in your range of taste. Great list regardless. Always happy to see you with movie content.
Thanks! I did see "The Shape of Water" and thought it was very good, especially visually. The characters lacked some complexity for me though - since it was pretty much a fairy tale for adults character depth wasn't really the focus.
Oh man, I've seen 9/10 of these! So glad you recommended Loveless because I think it comes out over here in February 😊 great list Mariana, Dunkirk was in my top 5 too 👍🏻
Thank you :) I think we have pretty similar taste when it comes to movies, so I hope you'll "enjoy" (not the right word here...) "Loveless" as much as I did. It's a really powerful story.
Hi Marianna - I thought Dunkirk was the best film I've seen in 2017 so far. But, Three Billboards is my favorite - if that makes any sense. Dunkirk was so unique in its approach, and so intense that I loved it, even though it violated one of my main rules for liking a film - getting involved with the main characters. Three Billboards got me involved with all the characters. And the characters had a complexity I didn't expect. I'm on board with you on Denis. I was convinced when I saw Arrival. It was one of the few times I saw a movie that was better than the book (short story). I still have too see The Shape Of Water, Ladybird, Molly's Game (I love Sorkin) & Blade Runner (my bad, I'm embarrassed). Keep up the great work, Ted
I hit like the moment I saw part of a Loveless poster in the thumbnail. Deserved the Foreign Language Oscar and a Best Picture nomination too. Best film of 2017, period.
Dunkirk and Blade Runner 2049 blew my mind. I had such a hard time deciding which one I loved more. Christopher Nolan and Denis Villeneuve are the the masters of modern filmmaking.
Awesome List Marianna! 2017 had a lot of amazing films. I didn't get to see The Disaster Artist but will check out when I can. Also, please review Loveless 😉 10. God of War 9. War for the Planet of the apes 8. Logan 7. John Wick 2 6. IT 5. Lady Bird 4. Dunkirk 3. Shape of Water 2. Wonder Woman 1. Blade Runner 2049
Nice list, I haven’t seen most of them though. I don’t see a ton of movies while they’re new so I’ll give a top 3: 3. The Big Sick 2. The Last Jedi 1. Get Out
It's a hard list to make, especially considering my top 3 (just like yours) but it ultimately came down to this 1. Lady Bird 2. Blade Runner 2049 3. Phantom Thread 4. Dunkirk 5. The Shape of Water 6. The Big Sick 7. The Killing of a Sacred Deer 8. Good Time 9. Call Me by Your Name 10. Darkest Hour Also, I agree that 2049 is the best sequel ever made. I'll give you a follow on LB
Great video, Marianna. :) Here’s my current list so far: 1. Blade Runner 2049 2. War for the Planet of the Apes 3. Lion 4. Logan 5. The Big Sick 6. Get Out 7. Wind River 8. The Lego Batman Movie 9. The Disaster Artist 10. Baby Driver
Great list. Glad I discovered your channel last year, even when I don't agree with you, what you have to say is still good food for thought. I'm happy to say that I now have a better appreciation for the Blade Runner movies after 2049. I don't know if it's because I kept catching the first film in the wrong mindset, despite trying to rewatch it often enough, but somehow 2049 encouraged a more open mind. But my best movie-going experience was when I got a bit of a windfall and a whole day to myself and decided to marathon War for the Planet of the Apes, Dunkirk and Baby Driver at my local cinema. It was a long day, but it was worth it. It definitely encouraged me to have some variety in the films I watch, recent or otherwise. It'll be tough as my local doesn't usually run films like Raw, but bring on 2018...
Thank you :) I'm glad "Blade Runner 2049" made you appreciate the original more, I think that's also a big complement to the sequel. And wow, that's some movie marathon!
Nice list. This was an amazing year for movies. Actually rated 2 films 5/5 which I haven't done since Whiplash in 2014. Everything else on my top 8 are 4.5/5. So far Coco, three billboards, good time, war of the apes, shape of water, Logan, get out, and lady bird are my top 8 so far. Still need to see 30 more films Wasn't such a big fan of Raw and Dunkirk. Baby Driver was indeed fun and amdingly edited but it hasn't made my top 20 sadly. Blade Runner was great on many levels. Amazingly directed and shot but story didn't impact me much. Maybe since I wasn't much of a fan of the original. Still it is def in my top 20.
Ahhh, "Whiplash", my favorite film of 2014 :) THAT was some movie year - "Birdman", "Enemy", "Snowpiercer", "Nightcrawler", so many films that have become staples in my collection.
This is awesome! My list : 1. Blade Runner 2049 2. Phantom Thread 3. Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri 4. The Killing of a Sacred Deer 5. Raw 6. A Ghost Story 7. Columbus 8. mother! 9. The Shape of Water 10. Get Out (maaaybe lol, I kinda want to put Good Time or Thelma here)
Oh my goodness, you've already watched Loveless. I've been looking forward to seeing it since the beginning of 2017 when I saw that it was being made. Also, I just realised that it just started being screened at the cinema here, which I honestly didn't expect to happen. I really like the format you present here, where you present each and every video in order, talking a little bit about why they're on your list etc. Well made and enjoyable video, and a good list on top of that! I have still a lot of films to watch before I can call my own list even remotely completed, and there are a few films I'd like to rewatch so I can give them a more 'accurate' rating. Anyway, this is my list so far: *10.* The Wound (Inxeba) *9.* Good Time *8.* Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 *7.* Baby Driver *6.* Dunkirk *5.* The Villainess (Aknyeo) *4.* The Third Murder (Sandome no satsujin) *3.* Raw (Grave) *2.* Mother! *1.* Blade Runner 2049 A Ghost Story would have been my 11th spot. I think The Killing of a Sacred Deer could possibly end up on the list on second watch. Dunkirk is pretty much the only film with which I feel confident with the rating, but I'd still like to rewatch it because of how good it was. The rest I'd like to rewatch to see if the rating holds up. Guardians of the Galaxy is probably the film most likely to be bumped down in rating on second watch. I'm not too confident with the position of Blade Runner 2049 and Mother!, either. Especially Blade Runner 2049. It was really good, but I don't think I liked it as much as many others did. Other than that, many of these films could swap positions without affecting the accuracy of the list, but I'm quite content with the number of foreign films. Some of the films I have yet to watch: Phantom Thread, Coco, Three Billboards, The Shape of Water, Mary and the Witch's Flower, Loveless, Call Me by Your Name.
Thank you so much! I'm glad you're enjoying this more relaxed approach to my top 10s - I had some concerns because talking about everything on my list makes the video longer, but I didn't want to just name 10 movies without much explanation. Loving your list, now I really need to check out the foreign language films you have on there :)
It could be just me, but I generally don't mind longer videos if the topic is interesting. I didn't really think too much about the length of the video at all, so to me at least it seems you struck a fine balance between content and length. Thank you! That is warming to hear. If/when you do check out any of the foreign language films, I would very much like to hear your thoughts.
Great video, as always! Here's what I loved from this year: 1. Blade Runner 2049 2. Logan 3. Raw 3. Dunkirk 4. Star Wars - The Last Jedi 5. Brigsby Bear 6. Baby Driver 7. Get Out 8. The Killing of a Sacred Deer 9. A Ghost Story 10. Mudbound Honorable mentions: War for the Planet of the Apes It Thor Ragnarok It Comes at Night Good Time I still have to see Three Billboards, The Florida Project and many others that I couldn't find where I live.
I haven’t seen Phantom Thread or Three Billboards yet, both of which would probably land a place on my list. Also A Ghost Story which won’t even get a theatrical release here in Finland. Slightly upset about that. 1. Call me by your name 2. The Killing of a sacred deer 3. Baby Driver 4. It comes at night 5. Blade Runner 2049 6 The shape of water 7. Good time 8. Mother! 9. Get out 10. Logan lucky Honorables: Dunkirk, The Florida Project
10. The Shape of Water 9. The Killing of a Sacred Deer 8. Brigsby Bear 7.Get Out 6. Thelma 5. Raw 4. Buster's Mal Heart 3. Baby Driver 2. Dunkirk 1. Blade Runner 2049 That's out of 91 films released this year that I saw.
levisever I could kiss you for putting Raw and Thelma side by side 😅. I haven't seen all the movies from 2017, but no other films like mother!, Raw and Thelma had deeply affected me.
Impression Blend hardly anybody seems to know about it, but it is a beautifully shot and deeply allegorical film that is difinently worth checking out. It might even be on Netflix actually.
levisever I couldn't agree more. They have similar themes. When you think outside the box, both films are quite allegorical. I'm curious about that movie you mentioned ("Buster Mal Heart"). The main character is played by the same actor (Rami Malek) from that show, "Mr. Robot", which I need to catch up on. I finished the entire first season in 3 days. I'll put that movie on my queue. Thank you!
Just watched Bladerunner 2049 for the first time last week and when the movie ended I was blown away by what I had just witnessed. By far my favorite movie of 2017.
1: Get Out 2: The Shape of Water 3: Baby Driver 4: Wonder Woman 5: Dave Made A Maze 6: The Last Jedi 7: War for the Planet of the Apes 8: Blade Runner 2049 9: Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2 10: Thor Ragnarok
Really interesting list,i mostly have the same favorite movies (really happy you showed some love for Mother! and A ghost story).Good to see you are also drawn to the darkness :)) And i really need to see Loveless !!! :D
I love your Shining poster and I think I watched this video a while back and it inspired me to go buy a couple Shining Posters... now I have a horror wall. Disaster Artist is a lovely film though and I am glad you included it on here :) #PrayForMariannasComputer
Impression Blend He was so lovely and insightful, I am currently learning filmmaking here in the UK and you can tell he's a true master at what he does, wouldn't say anything about his next project though
My favourite movie of the year apparently came out in 2016 but it came out here in spring 2017 so I say it counts. It's Paterson directed by Jim Jarmusch. It's like a movie equivalent of a poem about the beauty of the mundane life. It has beautiful rhythm and rhymes and visual metaphors and repetitions and everything. I'm not the biggest Jarmusch fan so I was afraid the movie would be slow and pretentious (to be fair some of my friends think it is) but I just loved it. My other favourites that actually came out in 2017 are Mother, Thelma (Norwegian film) and Blade Runner 2049 (I actually liked It more then the original, much less "style over substance" and so beautiful! If it doesn't get the oscar for best cinematography I'm going to flip out) Don't get everyones excitement over Dunkirk and Wind river, they were ok in my opinion. What through me off a little bit about Wind River was that it basically tells a story about this reservation but native americans don't actually do anything and we don't see much of them through out the film. We mostly get told by other characters how strong natives are and how they struggle
i loved that movie as well, and your description captures it perfectly, though i would tell any friend of yours who called this pretentious to take a hike! it was simple and sweet, and i didn't think there was a hint of pretension to be found. i'm a little hot & cold on jarmusch, but i think this is his greatest film.
Hello again Ms. Marianna☺ Ignore any negative hurtful comments, because your just always so lovely & a stunning breath of fresh air😌 I give you 5 stars🌟 haha! I also love that steelbook edition of blade runner 2049. It was my 2nd favorite 2017 film. My #1 just had to be Star wars: the last jedi. Please don't laugh haha. I thought it hit it's mark on being a fresh & unique star wars episode. People wanted something different & that's what they got. And because it was too different to most people, it got lots of head shakes. Not from me though. I loved it!😍 As well as IT: chapter 1. Keep rockin'!😎
These are the best I saw in 2017 (in some sorta order): Silence - Doesn't quite capture the theological depth of Endo's novel, because different medium, but I can't think of a director who'd have made a better adaption than Scorsese. The Death of Stalin - Darker and less frenetic than the trailers imply. My Life as a Zucchini - French language claymation. Genuinely moving. also liked: Toni Erdmann Call Me by Your Name Good Time Blade Runner 2049 Wind River Three Billboards Baby Driver Dunkirk Logan ...and a ton of older films. There's a few on your list I need to see. Mother! sounds like a Luis Buñuel film.
"Silence" was a weird one for me... I really appreciated it mentally (this sounds weird, but I don't know how else to say it), but it didn't do much for me emotionally, so I ended up feeling pretty torn about it.
I understand what you mean, even if I didn't feel the same. I found both novel & film to be an intellectual AND emotional examination of faith, although I agree they lean heavily towards the former. btw: If you found Silence a little dry, you may have similar feelings about some of Ingmar Bergman's films that tackle the same themes.
Hey Mariana, I know you said you will be doing less reviews, but can you please review horror movies that went under the radar? You are the reason I saw The Wailing
Of course, if something comes up that deserves attention I will review it :) This was mostly about reviewing films that I don't feel very strongly about or that are super popular as is.
Great list. I am not a horror person, so those are the major differences, again great list. Here is my list. I haven’t seen as many films this year, but still a good amount: 1. Blade Runner 2049 (5 Stars, too) - I want your “more in depth discussion of this film, please. 2. Logan 3. Baby Driver 4. Spider Man: Homecoming 5. Wonder Woman 6. The Big Sick 7. The Wall 8. The Hero 9. John Wick: Chapter Two 10. War for the Planet of the Apes
I haven't seen all the movies from 2017 either. I love In Bruges. I love it so much that it's part of my blu-ray collection. I desperately need to see Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.
Impression Blend- I read the novel after having watched Bladerunner 2049, and there were references in the movie, that more closely resembled stuff in "Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep?". Such as, the proliferation of radioactive dust everywhere, which was never referenced in the first movie. In my personal opinion, both movies got a bum rap. They are both, absolutely amazing! I never tire of watching them.
Hmm, I guess I can see that, but I still think "Blade Runner" is closer. Realistically, neither is a direct adaptation-I actually made a point of reading "Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep?" before re-watching "Blade Runner" and going to see "Blade Runner 2049". I'm with you though, the films don't get the recognition they deserve - "Blade Runner" gained its status years later, after it was re-cut.
Yeah Blade Runner 2049, hard to top it, it has everything; a great story with emotional moments, great characters, fantastic performances, a stunning score and visually it's a gift from the gods.
TOP 10 MOVIES OF 2017: 1. War For The Planet Of The Apes 2. Dunkirk 3. Coco 4. Get Out 5. Wonder Woman 6. Logan 7. Thor: Ragnarok 8. Spider-Man: Homecoming 9. Baby Driver 10. Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri
Wow that was so much worth the wait. Great list. It matches mine a lot. I'm surprised you didn't include more horror appart from raw which his in my top 5. And no Get Out? It's not on my top ten but I was expecting it to be in yours
There was actually some more horror in there, but it got pushed out by some films I saw at the end of the year. Overall though I'd say 2016 was a stronger year for horror (even though there were some gems of the genre in 2017 as well)
My list: 1. Wonder Woman 2. Blade Runner 2049 3. Logan 4. Thor: Ragnarok 5. Dunkirk 6. War for the Planet of the Apes 7. Beauty and the Beast 8. Coco 9. Get Out 10. Wind River 11. It 12. Stronger 13. John Wick 2 14. Baby Driver
I thought for sure number one would be Raw, but I guess I forgot about your Blade Runner love. I've been meaning to watch Loveless, but from what I've heard about it, I need to make sure there's some scotch near by. Great list.
Nice list! Any movies you are super psyched about for 2018? And where did "Get Out" shake out for by the end? Anywhere close to your Top 10? Hope your 2018 slate of movies is just as good as 2017!
Nice list. My top 15 best films of 2017 are 1. Dunkirk 2. Star Wars: The Last Jedi 3. War for the Planet of the Apes 4. Wonder Woman 5. Logan 6. Thor: Raganrok 7. Coco 8. Kong: Skull Island 9. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 10. Justice League 11. The Shape of Water 12. It 13. The Lego Batman Movie 14. Blade Runner 2049 15. Spider-Man: Homecoming
Same disclaimer as Marianna :) My personal fav top 10. Top 3 could flip flop. Overall, none of the movies wowed me this year but lots of good movies. 1) Lady Bird 2) Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri 3) Shape of Water 4) I,Tonya 5) Logan 6) Dunkirk - Never saw in theatre, might be higher if I did. 7) Big Sick 8) Your Name (Kimi no Na wa.) - Released in Japan in 2016 but limited release in N.A in 2017. 9) Baby Driver - Third act brought this down for me. 10) Brigsby Bear - Quirky indy that everybody needs to check out. Honourable Mentions - A Ghost Story, Battle of the Sexes, Molly's Game
Funny the first two films to kickstart your list is my top 2 of 2017 being Wind River my #1 haha. I'm in no way religious but really loved mother! It was a rollercoaster ride. Had yet to watch The Disaster Artist and it's TEARING ME APART!
Thank you Marianna I love you I absolutely agree with you Blade Runner 2049 is my favorite of 2017 because for me at least it’s a very unique film because these other things would take too long to discuss and the fact that I went to see this movie 3 times in the theater fourth time in IMAX and I bought the Walmart exclusive Blu Ray
Been waiting for this and solid list! Just really annoyed you have the steelbook for 2049 and it hasn't been distributed to Australia yet :( I had a top 20, as there were way too many films to pick from, but this is my top 10: 1. Get Out 2. Coco 3. Blade Runner 2049 4. Wind River 5. A Ghost Story 6. The Shape Of Water 7. Call Me By Your Name 8. Three Billboards Outside E, M 9. Lucky 10. Lost City Of Z Thanks for posting. Would love to see your most anticipated list soon too! :)
Thanks for watching :) I don't actually plan on doing a most anticipated list this time around, most of the films I'm looking forward to don't have trailers out or don't even have a definite release date outside of 2018 in general (which can always change).
interesting list, we only share 1 movie on our list (Dunkirk)! i did like a lot of these but not top ten i guess. i really want to see loveless soon. great vid as always
At last! Very interesting list Marianna. I agree with you, Blade Runner 2049 was the best film last year. I can't understand why it didn't work at the box office.
I'm actually not surprised, philosophical sci-fi like that doesn't usually have mass appeal at the box office. I feel like sci-fi in general can be a tough sell unless it's a big franchise name.
10. The Big Sick 9. Wonder Woman 8. Get Out 7. Dunkirk 6. War for the Planet of the Apes 5. Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri 4. IT 3. Baby Driver 2. Logan 1. Molly’s Game HM Thor Ragnarok Kong: Skull Island Atomic Blonde Spiderman: Homecoming The Post American Made
1. blade runner 2049 2. baby driver 3. the disaster artist 4. three billboards 5.wind river 6. logan I'm going to cheat on the next three I saw for the first time this year, never came out this year. 7. the blues brothers 8. lady snowblood 9. house (1977) 10. brawl in cell block 99
Enjoyed your video very much! I don't ten favorite movies this year. Haven't gone to that many. In fact, aside from the Marvel movies I've seen, I believe all of the movies I went to see in the theater is on your list. Baby Driver, Dunkirk and Bladerunner 2049 would be my top three.
yay for raw & ghost story in your top tier. big favourites of mine as well. my own list - i'm recording 13, just because they were the ones that i loved the most, and i don't really have a huge gap between any of them. they're all co-number 1s, basically 1) florida project 2) a ghost story 3) rat film 4) the red turtle 5) world of tomorrow episode two: the burden of other people's thoughts 6) my life as a courgette 7) raw 8) shape of water 9) nocturama 10) columbus 11) dawson city: frozen time 12) dunkirk 13) good time

Thank you so much!
So glad Wind River was on your list! It was so haunting and stayed with me for a long time!
It's definitely one of those films that stays with you and only gets better the more you think about it.
Whoah. This is the best list I've seen on youtube and our tastes are similar. However, I'd definitely place The Killing of The Sacred Deer in there somewhere. Great channel, btw. Keep up the good work!

I love everything you do, from book reviews to film reviews, you're one of my favorite.
I can't believe that Denis Villeneuve is not nominated for best director on this year's Academy Awards, it's just disappointed.
Great vid, and as I said before, is good to have you back :D
Thank you so much! I also felt like "Blade Runner 2049" deserved more nominations than it got, but I may be biased :)
As always, amazing list Marianna really loved all of your choices! Here's my Top 10:

Thank you :) I still need to see a few movies that made your list, they're proving a bit difficult to find, but I'm sure I'll get there soon. Love seeing "A Ghost Story" and "Blade Runner 2049" at the top of your list!
GreshTooFresh br 2049 is a shit
1)Blade Runner 2049
2) Dunkirk
3) Lady Bird

This year was pretty great for film but Blade Runner 2049 was far above the rest for me, it totally blew me away.
Great list @ImpressionBlend!
My Top 10:
10. I, Tonya
9. Disaster Artist
8. Ladybird
7. Baby Driver
6. Dunkirk
5. Logan
4. Get Out
3. Star Wars The Last Jedi

1. Bladerunner 2049
2017 had a lot of great movies. I would honestly make a Top 20 but some honorable mentions for me are:
IT, Call Me By Your Name, Thor: Ragnarok, Three Billboards Outside of Ebbing Missouri, Coco, A Ghost Story, War for the Planet of the Apes, Ingrid Goes West and Split.
Finally!!! i was waiting for this!! good to see you doing top 10 again!!
I definitely agree with your #1! Can't wait to see it again, although I doubt it's going to be quite the same experience as the big screen.
The fact you had Raw and mother! on your list, makes you my new favorite critic. I look forward to watching new reviews you do. Keep up the great work
Thank you :D
I appreciate that you mentioning one of my fav movie in 2017. RAW
I haven't seen four of the movies in your list, but the rest are really good. Nice list. Thanks Marianna.
My favourite ten films of 2017 (actually my top 13 - as I have three ties) are:-
1. Beauty and the Beast (I went to see it 27 times)
2. Logan
3. Blade Runner 2049
4. The Florida Project

[Note: The Shape of Water, Coco, Darkest Hour, Three Billboards, and Lady Bird etc. are 2018 films in the UK.]
I also saw last year (and loved) two movies eligible for last time's Oscars: La La Land and Lion.
1. Three Billboards
2. Call Me By Your Name
3. Molly’s Game
4. Baby Driver
5. Lady Bird
6. Blade Runner 2049
7. Girls Trip
8. Wind River
9. Coco
Excellent
Thank you :) There were quite a few really good films this year, but I just had to go with my heart for this top 10
Great list Marianna! Got some new movies to watch now. Bladerunner 2049 was absolute favorite and loved it even more after my second watch. Congrats on the new subscribers BTW. 🤓
Thank you :D
Probably the top ten list agree with the most so far out of any youtube list. Nice job!

4: Wind River
5: Baby Driver
6: War For The Planet of The Apes
7: Wonder Woman
8: The Disaster Artist
9: Logan
10: Get Out
You have a fantastic taste in movies and Sci fi and fantasy are my favorites as well
This is the first video of yours I’ve seen and you’ve gained a new subscriber! Love the way you discuss movies even in trying to keep it shorter very excited to see your more in depth reviews.
Yessssssss, Blade Runner 2049!!!!!!!! To me, it's a perfect film!
Wow, I have really failed at seeing a lot of these movies. I really need to get on it! Always love seeing your favorites. Now I have a solid to-watch list for the near future. Love you girl!
Thanks girl
Great list!
I was captivated by the Loveless trailer when I clicked on it here on YT some weeks ago. I was curious to see the trailer ‘cause it has the same title as one of my fave albums by My Bloody Valentine / Kevin Shields.
Agree with you on Blade Runner 2049 and Denis Villeneuve!
Thanks, Austin! There were a lot of really good films to choose from this year :)
Aww thank you so much! Please, let me know where and when can I watch your documentary once you release it. I would love to see it!
Here is my promotional trailer to raise funds for the project. Give it a look. ruclips.net/video/2BXPdJbEW6c/видео.html
And sample from it...

My list consists of:
10. Personal Shopper
9. Get Out
8. Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri
7. Good Time
6. Phantom Thread
5. Call Me By Your Name
4. Lady Bird
3. Dunkirk
2. The Shape of Water
1. The Florida Project
Ian Bulaclac Damn good list dude!
Evan Acree thank you. It was so tough to make a top 10 because there’s so much films that I considered great.
Great video, as usual. I saw and liked most of these as well.
I also liked Ghost in the Shell, Phoenix Forgotten, Sleight, Atomic Blonde, The Babysitter, Bright, and Genocidal Organ.
Thanks for watching!
Denis Villeneuve is already one of our most talented living directors, and if his version of Dune turns out to be a success, he'll become one of the all time greats.
Hell yes! That is some undertaking, I am VERY interested in how he's going to deal with "Dune".
A Ghost Story was my favorite movie of 2017 followed by Blade Runner 2049 and Mother! Great list. Keep up the good work :)
Thank you :)
Still have a few movies to watch before I have my top 10, but my rough draft top 5 Are:
5) call me by your name
4) the shape of water
3) Dunkirk
2) lady bird
1) Blade runner 2049
Honestly surprised the shape of water wasn't on your list, don't know if you saw it or not, but I felt it could've been in your range of taste.
Great list! And you chose correctly for best film of 2017! Keep up the good work :)
Haha thanks :)
So, what did you decide?
Impression Blend
I think I'd have to go with 2049. Emotionally, it got me more.
Awesome List Marianna! 2017 had a lot of amazing films. I didn't get to see The Disaster Artist but will check out when I can. Also, please review Loveless 😉
10. God of War
9. War for the Planet of the apes
8. Logan
7. John Wick 2
6. IT
5. Lady Bird
4. Dunkirk
3. Shape of Water
2. Wonder Woman
1. Blade Runner 2049
Nice list, I haven’t seen most of them though. I don’t see a ton of movies while they’re new so I’ll give a top 3:
3. The Big Sick
2. The Last Jedi
1. Get Out
That's a fun top 3!
Not surprised at your #1 :) I have to say I'm excited to be seeing Loveless as that's showing at my local cinema in a couple weeks time.
I wonder how you'll feel about "Loveless" :)
It's a hard list to make, especially considering my top 3 (just like yours) but it ultimately came down to this
1. Lady Bird
2. Blade Runner 2049
3. Phantom Thread
4. Dunkirk
5. The Shape of Water
6. The Big Sick
7. The Killing of a Sacred Deer
8. Good Time
9. Call Me by Your Name
10. Darkest Hour
Also, I agree that 2049 is the best sequel ever made. I'll give you a follow on LB
Great video, Marianna. :) Here’s my current list so far:
1. Blade Runner 2049
2. War for the Planet of the Apes
3. Lion
4. Logan
5. The Big Sick
6. Get Out
7. Wind River
8. The Lego Batman Movie
9. The Disaster Artist
10. Baby Driver
Thanks, Ryan! I'm loving the mix of genres on your list!
+Impression Blend Thanks for responding, Marianna. I hope that 2018 will be your best year yet.
Thank you! Same to you :)
Still need to see 30 more films
Wasn't such a big fan of Raw and Dunkirk.
My list :
1. Blade Runner 2049
2. Phantom Thread
3. Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri
4. The Killing of a Sacred Deer
5. Raw
6. A Ghost Story
7. Columbus
8. mother!
9. The Shape of Water
10. Get Out (maaaybe lol, I kinda want to put Good Time or Thelma here)
Loved your list! Also, I'm really looking forward to seeing "Phantom Thread" and "Thelma" :)
Anyway, this is my list so far:
*10.* The Wound (Inxeba)
*9.* Good Time
*8.* Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2
*7.* Baby Driver
*6.* Dunkirk
*5.* The Villainess (Aknyeo)
*4.* The Third Murder (Sandome no satsujin)
*3.* Raw (Grave)
*2.* Mother!
*1.* Blade Runner 2049
A Ghost Story would have been my 11th spot.
Here's what I loved from this year:
1. Blade Runner 2049
2. Logan
3. Raw
3. Dunkirk
4. Star Wars - The Last Jedi
5. Brigsby Bear
6. Baby Driver
7. Get Out
8. The Killing of a Sacred Deer
9. A Ghost Story
10. Mudbound
Honorable mentions:
War for the Planet of the Apes
It
Thor Ragnarok
It Comes at Night
Good Time
I still have to see Three Billboards, The Florida Project and many others that I couldn't find where I live.
I haven’t seen Phantom Thread or Three Billboards yet, both of which would probably land a place on my list. Also A Ghost Story which won’t even get a theatrical release here in Finland. Slightly upset about that.
1. Call me by your name
2. The Killing of a sacred deer
3. Baby Driver
4. It comes at night
5. Blade Runner 2049
6 The shape of water
7. Good time
8. Mother!
9. Get out
10. Logan lucky
Honorables: Dunkirk, The Florida Project
2049 is a work of art! My uncle Roger was the DP on this movie, absolutely beautiful 💕
I have Wind River at 1
10. The Shape of Water
9. The Killing of a Sacred Deer
8. Brigsby Bear
7.Get Out
6. Thelma
5. Raw
4. Buster's Mal Heart
3. Baby Driver
2. Dunkirk
1. Blade Runner 2049
That's out of 91 films released this year that I saw.
"Buster's Mal Heart"? Why have I never heard of this? Just looked it up, and it seems very interesting!
levisever I could kiss you for putting Raw and Thelma side by side 😅.
RipleyE2092 and yes Thelma and Raw are basically tied on my list both are incredible and they work really great as a back to back double feature.
levisever I couldn't agree more.
I'm glad you loved it!
I can always make the time to watch your video's. Great stuff. Thank you
Thank you for watching :D
Mother and Ghost Story are two of the best films I saw this year. Definitely loved Blade Runner 2049 as well, managed to see that when it came out!
1: Get Out
2: The Shape of Water
3: Baby Driver
4: Wonder Woman
5: Dave Made A Maze
6: The Last Jedi
7: War for the Planet of the Apes
8: Blade Runner 2049
9: Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2
10: Thor Ragnarok
Really interesting list,i mostly have the same favorite movies (really happy you showed some love for Mother! and A ghost story).Good to see you are also drawn to the darkness :)) And i really need to see Loveless !!! :D
Darkness is my friend 🖤
I love your Shining poster and I think I watched this video a while back and it inspired me to go buy a couple Shining Posters... now I have a horror wall.
Disaster Artist is a lovely film though and I am glad you included it on here :)
#PrayForMariannasComputer
Met Andrey Zvyagintsev on Tuesday for a screening of Loveless and a Q and A and it was all so amazing.
OK, I'm a little jealous, but that's awesome! What was he like?
Impression Blend He was so lovely and insightful, I am currently learning filmmaking here in the UK and you can tell he's a true master at what he does, wouldn't say anything about his next project though
You should add Ghost Story to future hidden gems found on Netflix lists. I still need to watch.
Yesss!!! I've been waiting soo long for this video!!
I hope it was worth the wait :)
If it doesn't get the oscar for best cinematography I'm going to flip out)
Don't get everyones excitement over Dunkirk and Wind river, they were ok in my opinion.
I keep forgetting about "Paterson"! I've been meaning to see it for about a year now, thanks for reminding me :D
Happens to me all the time, I try to keep lists of films I want to watch but they usually get out of hand. Too many interesting movies around! : ))
Hello again Ms. Marianna☺
Ignore any negative hurtful comments, because your just always so lovely & a stunning breath of fresh air😌 I give you 5 stars🌟 haha!
Aww thank you :) I wouldn't laugh at your #1-you love what you love, and it's great that the franchise gave you another great experience!
Gilbert I like you. Last Jedi was also my number 1 and it bums me out how much love that movie deserves but isn't getting
loved your choices, i still have to see Raw, loveless, and ladybird, but ive seen the rest and heard so much about the ones i havent
These are the best I saw in 2017 (in some sorta order):
Silence - Doesn't quite capture the theological depth of Endo's novel, because different medium, but I can't think of a director who'd have made a better adaption than Scorsese.
The Death of Stalin - Darker and less frenetic than the trailers imply.
My Life as a Zucchini - French language claymation. Genuinely moving.
also liked:
Toni Erdmann
Call Me by Your Name
Good Time
Blade Runner 2049
Wind River
Three Billboards
Baby Driver
Dunkirk
Logan
...and a ton of older films.
Of course, if something comes up that deserves attention I will review it :)
This was mostly about reviewing films that I don't feel very strongly about or that are super popular as is.
Great list. I am not a horror person, so those are the major differences, again great list. Here is my list. I haven’t seen as many films this year, but still a good amount:
1. Blade Runner 2049 (5 Stars, too) - I want your “more in depth discussion of this film, please.
2. Logan
3. Baby Driver
4. Spider Man: Homecoming
5. Wonder Woman
6. The Big Sick
7. The Wall
8. The Hero
9. John Wick: Chapter Two
10. War for the Planet of the Apes
Three Billboards at #6. I loved it!! It's a number one for me. Awesome. :)
I haven't seen all the movies from 2017 either. I love In Bruges. I love it so much that it's part of my blu-ray collection. I desperately need to see Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.
I recently added "In Bruges" to my collection as well!
Impression Blend Fantastic! The movie deserves more recognition. Cheers!
Ironically, Bladerunner 2049 is actually closer to the original novel, than the first Bladerunner movie.
You think so? I don't feel like it is, would love to know more about why you see it that way.
Great list.....It’s nice to see a film on it (Loveless) that not everyone has seen.
Thanks :)
Yeah Blade Runner 2049, hard to top it, it has everything; a great story with emotional moments, great characters, fantastic performances, a stunning score and visually it's a gift from the gods.
TOP 10 MOVIES OF 2017:
1. War For The Planet Of The Apes
2. Dunkirk
3. Coco
4. Get Out
5. Wonder Woman
6. Logan
7. Thor: Ragnarok

I finally saw Wind River and I liked it, there were just a few things I had to roll my eyes about.
Overall though I'd say 2016 was a stronger year for horror (even though there were some gems of the genre in 2017 as well)
That just mean it was a great end of the year moviewise so it's all good. Anyway I'm just happy you're back making video you're the best
My list:
1. Wonder Woman
2. Blade Runner 2049
3. Logan
4. Thor: Ragnarok
5. Dunkirk
6. War for the Planet of the Apes
7. Beauty and the Beast
8. Coco
9. Get Out
10. Wind River
11. It
12. Stronger
13. John Wick 2
14. Baby Driver
I thought for sure number one would be Raw, but I guess I forgot about your Blade Runner love. I've been meaning to watch Loveless, but from what I've heard about it, I need to make sure there's some scotch near by. Great list.
Thank you! Scotch would definitely help with the "Loveless" experience, can confirm :)
Nice list! Any movies you are super psyched about for 2018? And where did "Get Out" shake out for by the end? Anywhere close to your Top 10? Hope your 2018 slate of movies is just as good as 2017!
"Get Out" actually hung out in my top 10 for a while, but got pushed down towards the end, ended up at #12
Lovee this list, and i love your explanations, and how to manage to transmit your love of movies. Definitely gonna watch Loveless today :)
Thank you so much! Let me know what you think about "Loveless"

Same disclaimer as Marianna :) My personal fav top 10. Top 3 could flip flop. Overall, none of the movies wowed me this year but lots of good movies.
1) Lady Bird
2) Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri
3) Shape of Water
4) I,Tonya
5) Logan
6) Dunkirk - Never saw in theatre, might be higher if I did.
7) Big Sick
8) Your Name (Kimi no Na wa.) - Released in Japan in 2016 but limited release in N.A in 2017.
9) Baby Driver - Third act brought this down for me.
10) Brigsby Bear - Quirky indy that everybody needs to check out.
Honourable Mentions - A Ghost Story, Battle of the Sexes, Molly's Game
I keep seeing "Brigsby Bear" pop up, and I'm sad this movie wasn't even on my radar.
Definitely going to check it out now.
Funny the first two films to kickstart your list is my top 2 of 2017 being Wind River my #1 haha. I'm in no way religious but really loved mother! It was a rollercoaster ride.
Had yet to watch The Disaster Artist and it's TEARING ME APART!
Haha I see what you did there ;)
I'm not religious either, but I somehow find the exploration of religious themes in films/fiction very interesting.
Great list! You're looking awesome!
Thank you!
Hey Marianna! Will you still be watching PTA's Phantom Thread?
Absolutely!
It's my favorite film of last year! Can't wait to hear your thoughts on it!
Thanks for watching :)
Impression Blend your welcome you’ve been one of my favorite movie reviewers keep doing what you do your great 👍
Been waiting for this and solid list! Just really annoyed you have the steelbook for 2049 and it hasn't been distributed to Australia yet :(
I had a top 20, as there were way too many films to pick from, but this is my top 10:
1. Get Out
2. Coco
3. Blade Runner 2049
4. Wind River
5. A Ghost Story
6. The Shape Of Water
7. Call Me By Your Name
8. Three Billboards Outside E, M
9. Lucky
10. Lost City Of Z

Thanks for watching :) I don't actually plan on doing a most anticipated list this time around, most of the films I'm looking forward to don't have trailers out or don't even have a definite release date outside of 2018 in general (which can always change).
"Loveless" looks like it borrowed from "Don't Look Now"1973
Great list, Marianna. Just outta curiosity, have you upgraded to 4K Blu-rays yet? Judging by your Blade Runner 2049 steelbook, I'm guessing no.
Thank you :) Nope, I have not, and I don't know when it's going to happen.
interesting list, we only share 1 movie on our list (Dunkirk)! i did like a lot of these but not top ten i guess. i really want to see loveless soon. great vid as always
Thank you! What's on your top 10?
Impression Blend Lady Bird, Good Time, Call Me By Your Name, All These Sleepless Nights, Song to Song, Personal Shopper, On The Beach at Night Alone!
10. The Big Sick
9. Wonder Woman
8. Get Out
7. Dunkirk
6. War for the Planet of the Apes
5. Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri
4. IT
3. Baby Driver
2. Logan
1. Molly’s Game
HM
Thor Ragnarok
Kong: Skull Island
Atomic Blonde

10. brawl in cell block 99
Solid top 3 :D
yay for raw & ghost story in your top tier. big favourites of mine as well. my own list - i'm recording 13, just because they were the ones that i loved the most, and i don't really have a huge gap between any of them. they're all co-number 1s, basically
