Parasite? Why i'm not surprised... this is one of my all time favorites movies!
Usually everyone has their own film of the year and there are hot debates about it, but this year there's no doubt - "Parasite" easily takes the prize 💯
Parasite is my favourite film of 2019 loved it
1. Parasite
2. The Irishman
3. Once Upon a Time in Hollywood
4. Joker
5. Marriage Story
I could take or lose 2-5 honestly. They’re all pretty great no doubt, but wow, Parasite is on a whole different level. Seen it 3 times in theaters so far. Though possibly not my #1 ever, it’s probably the best theater experience I’ve ever had. It’s perfect and will go down in history as one of the most gripping movies ever made. My favorite of the decade. My girlfriend saw it twice with me and is not as much into movies but said it’s her favorite movie ever. Can’t possibly recommend it enough to anyone.
10:49 Especially the duck race , that was my favorite scene . The way it was designed to look SUPER epic actually made it very silly intentionally and I LOVED it .
So happy you FINALLY saw and loved The Favourite!!
So bummed I missed it in theatres ((
Yes, Parasite! My number 1 movie of the year too.
I'm so happy I'm not the only one who has that version of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.
I’m restoring my passion for movies through watching your videos. Thank you 🙏🏻
I love the shout out for Ad Astra, that film deserves a lot more recognition as does First Man. Knives Out is one of my favorite films of the year but as for the rest... I have a lot of catching up to do XD.
Amazing video, specially with the sunlight changes (that's always fun). 🔥♥️
"Ad Astra" flew under the radar this year, and it's making me sad. And thank you ))
My top 5 movies of the year:
1. The Irishman
2. Parasite
3. The Lighthouse
4. Once Upon a Time in... Hollywood
5. Joker
Totally agree!
I watched 'One Cut of The Dead' few weeks ago ( saw that movie on your other list ) and loved it so much! Amazing videos as per usual, merry xmas and happy new year!
Happy holidays to you too!
1. Knives out
2. A beautiful day in the neighborhood
3. The two popes
4 . Marriage story
5. Dr sleep
6. Joker
7. Jojo rabbit
8. Dark water
9. Honey boy
10. Peanut butter falcon
Honorable mention cats lol.
Bro watch Parasite
@@sammybelskus1534 I did it was okay to me
I loved First Man and The Favourite so much. The Favourite is beautiful and very quirky and very stylish. First Man is a visual masterpiece. I'm so glad you decided to watch both of them.
Thank you for returning this fall, Mariana. I really enjoyed watching your channel. Merry Christmas!
Thank you! Merry Christmas to you! Why this fall though? I've been around this whole year ))
Time flies! I did not notice it has been that much long. Thank you, Mariana.
The Favourite not winning best picture was bizarre for lack of a better word.
Not as bizarre as Green Book winning best picture though.
I.... don't know what happened there
Green Book was great.. I’m glad it won best picture.
Green Book is not a bad movie. A historically inaccurate movie maybe, but it’s a crowd pleaser. The Favourite is such an oddly crafted movie with a unique storytelling method that not everyone can get into. But if your 9 or if you’re 90 you can get something out of Green Book.
Well said.
You do such a good job with your videos! Thanks always for putting out great content! A great movie list as well :)
Thank you so much!!
Another great video keep up the great works the lighting is perfect
Thank you!
@@ImpressionBlend you're welcome keep it up
I agree with others. Your reviews are great and very well made. Thank you very much for your work!
Thank you so much!
Yea idk if it's your voice or the joy in your face but you have very compelling reviews
Aww thank you ))
Yeah, Parasite is great. It better win some awards at the Oscars.
It better go beyond best foreign language film at the Oscars - I'd love to see it win multiple categories
@@ImpressionBlend - You probably think I'm crazy, but I'm just worried about the Best Foreign Language film category. The Academy has always been cold to Korean films historically.
@@Asian_Movie_Enthusiast im worried that tbe academy will only give the international oscar to parasite and use that as an excuse to exclude it from winning other well-deserving categories
Who can believe I am here for learn English...I like your accent so much that is very clear and accurate, and your eyes are so attractive in this episode.
Blue eyeliner is perfect for you.
Anyway, thanks for sharing, even I am looking forward The Irishman. hahahaha
Oh lord I have some catching up to do
Don't we all ))
SAME HERE!
I did finally get through "Mind Hunter" though...loved "Burning" as well
I have seen all of the movies you mentioned. All of them are great. Jojo Rabbit and Parasite are my two favorite movies of the year so far.
They're both in my top 3 of the year so far, we'll see what the end of the year does to that ))
@@ImpressionBlend Yeah, I am going to watch 1917, Little Women in the next week. Let's see how it goes :)
About Yorgos Lanthimos: (and since i'm Greek and working in film industry this will help you understand why you liked this and not his other films!) His previous movies have been written by a screenwriter named Efthimis Filippou who has a very distictintive morbid style which formed what we call here "Greek weird wave". He's technically good but nothing more. He served Lanthimos as a vehicle to get out of small Greek film industry (Dogtooth) but Yorgos really shinned when he teamed with someone else who hadn't had Filippou's persistences ανδ morbidity. Besides all these, yes as someone else mentioned you are very good reviewer and you should definitely have more subscribers! Seasons greetings and Merry Christmas and keep on the good work!
Thank you! )) I can definitely appreciate someone making strong stylist choices, but it's just not my cup of tea. I totally get why people love him though, and I'm very interested in whatever films he makes in the future.
@@ImpressionBlend Thanks for answering me! Merry Christmas for you and your family!
I am really interested in your opinion about Marriage story. It was my favourite movie this year, the acting and screenwriting was amazing!
I'm still waiting for your video with a full discussion on Parasite. 😜
By the way, I always enjoy your suggestions on books. Hopefully, I'll be reading more next year.
I still want to do one but UGHHH not enough time :(
I am surprised that you have much fewer viewers than I expected. As someone pointed out already, you are underrated. By the way, I wouldn't doubt if someone told me that you are Scarlett Johansson's sister.
Like literally how am I supposed to pay attention when you are so on POINT with your look?
:) I did pay attention but my brain is now exhausted thx
I saw Parasite back in August and already then was convinced that it's the movie of the year, but today it finally has premiere here in Sweden so I'm going to the theatre tomorrow to rewatch it with my friend who hasn't seen it. So excited!
Happy Holidays Marianna, looking forward to your 2020 vids!
you, your eloquence and your passion are pure beauty
My top 5 films of this fall would be:
1. The Lighthouse
2. Monos (holy God what a movie!)
3. Marriage Story
4. The Irishman
5. Knives Out
Had to look up "Monos", first I hear of it - will have to check it out!
Coincidentally I only got round to seeing The Favourite myself last month. Great film. Liked it for similar reasons as yourself. Although I wasn't quite as put off by the mannered acting style of previous films by Lanthimos I still preferred this approach. Nice to see Olivia Colman get some recognition too. She's got a hell of a CV from British TV. Fleabag, Flowers, Broadchurch, Peep Show, Look Around You, Green Wing. Either her and/or her agent is a great judge of a script.
Best films I saw this Autumn (in Britain The Fall is a band): Babette's Feast, La Notte & Leviathan. All beautiful, intelligent, medative works of art. I've been meaning to see Leviathan for a while after I saw it being recommended on RUclips - I think on your channel. So I might be preaching to the choir there. Hallelujah etc...
If you loved "Leviathan", I would HIGHLY recommend "Loveless" from the same director!
Every time you say "I'm Mariana", I get surprised because somehow I'm always expecting "Marie", or "Marie Anne" until the last second🤔
Parasite is my favourite film of the year, an absolute masterpiece. Jojo Rabbit and Knives Out were some of my other favourites definitely, I loved both. I’m surprised it took you until now to see First Man, I saw it back in IMAX and loved it and I ironically just watched it again on 4K.
I admittedly have not seen The Favourite and Ad Astra. Although I just picked up Ad Astra on 4K and am gonna watch it tomorrow
nice eye shadow . nice look . lovely
do a review on "Anna" .
The Favourite absolutely DESTROYED me when I saw it. It was a perfect mix of schadenfreude and gut punching punishment for feeling that way, and the ending was deeply weird in the best possible way. I totally get why you'd be wary of Lanthimos' other films (though I am curious which ones you've seen so far). Either way, The Favourite is certainly the film to convert you to a Lanthimos lover.
I also think you captured Parasite perfectly here. It sits right on the line of high art and pop art. It's so crowd pleasing, funny, entertaining, etc. but it's also so well constructed as a film and rife with symbolism, allegory, and all those things film nerds love to analyze for hours and hours...
I've seen "The Lobster", "Dogtooth", and "The Killing of the Sacred Deer". I'm interested to give them all another try at some point, especially "Dogtooth", but I'm not sure when I'll actually get around to doing this. Maybe closer to whenever his next movie will be out.
Great review. Enjoyed Jojo Rabbit the most of all the movies I've watched this year. I noticed you have Station Eleven in the background. Have you reviewed it? I read it a few years back and enjoyed how it played out the dystopian future.
I haven't done a review, but I LOVED it. Read it soon after it came out, and I would love to read it again soon.
There have indeed been MANY great adventures this year, but Marianna is my favorite adventure!🤗
How about the lighthouse?
Because, WHOA! So epic😁
Finally a video released at a reasonable hour. Knives Out was great.
It's not like it disappears after it's released )) You can watch at any time ;)
I was pretty confident you'd like The Favourite, and I agree the ending was perfect. By the way, you look so radiant in this video. j/k
You look more gorgeous in every upload lately, Marianna.. That Jewish girl in Jojo Rabbit is in Leave No Trace. She was really good in that too (maybe a second viewing could make it grow on you?..) Oh, I hope your books don’t get exposed a lot with direct sunlight. It would gradually make the colours of their covers fade..
Please try to see “Portrait of a Lady on Fire”. It’s one of the best films I ever seen.
I wish! Unfortunately, it doesn't open in US theatres until February 2020 ((
It's been amazing year for movies. I'm finding it difficult to list my top five. It keeps changing .
Loved 1917, then i liked Jo jo rabbit.... it's great. Oh parasite......then Joker.......Haha.
The Favourite best film of 2018 and Parasite best film of 2019, good picks!
Hej, if you love space and loneliness as a combination you should check out Lily Brooks-Dalton's novel "Good Morning, Midnight". It was my favorite book that I read last year (it is from 2016). How you described "First Man" makes me want to give it a go after all because so far I was not really interested in it.
Film is named Love, Antosha (2019), not love on Tasha
I was expecting to hear about almost nothing but Parasite up until the Oscars. But some of it's largest fans are starting to really talk up 1917, so that will also be worth keeping an eye on.
"I don't even understand how this did not win Best Picture" Agreed! How masterpieces like The Favourite and Roma, and snubbed greats like If Beale Street Could Talk, Leave No Trace and First Reformed, lost to such generic fluff is beyond me. Green Book isn't awful, but it's nothing to write home about and is not going to be remembered in the same light as all the groundbreaking films that came out in 2018. The Academy is an exercise in frustration for all of us film lovers.
I'm REALLY curious what's going to take best picture this year after how it's been recently
Only one I watched was unbelievable I really enjoyed and glad it was a limited series I feel like it worked well for a limited series
This odd turning out to be a great year. We got, probably, my favourite Tarantino film, Parasite- the best film in years and an actuallt quite good Joker.
Jojo Rabbit isn't coming here until the end of January. It's definetly my most anticipated upcoming release. Kind of wishing I could replace it with Star Wars, so I can see it already.
I will definetly go and see your recommendations. I know I can trust your council!
As for Jojo Rabbit, if I understand correctly the atmosphere of the movie, I'd suggest you to check out "La vita è bella", directed and acted by Roberto Benigni: I loved it!
I loooooove First Man. Looove. It really got screwed as far as box office take and awards go in my opinion.
Parasite is the type of movie you can have a 2 hr discussion video on
Yup!
I reaIIy like that eye makeup 👍
Ive never heard of Parasite I'll see if its on in London or if its available on DVD
My top 5 movies of the year
The Irishman
Joker
Parasite
The Lighthouse
The Farewell
you're gonna do a review on the irishman any time soon?
That's a great list. My top 5 films of the Fall (not including the unreleased "Little Women" and "1917") are...
1. Jojo Rabbit 4 1/2 stars
2. Parasite 4 stars
3. Ford v Ferrari 4 stars (Why haven't you seen this???)
4. Bombshell 4 stars
5. Unbelievable 4 1/2 stars (too long to be rewatchable for me, but powerful)
Two classic films that I saw this Fall that was great is Ozu's "Tokyo Story" and "Floating Weeds". Watch only the most recent Criterion releases, the quality is far superior. "Tokyo Story" is right up your alley. Watch it and thank me for it later.
Here's the thing about "Ford v Ferrari": I love the two actors, and they're enough to get me interested in the film. But the trailer did next to nothing for me. I'm sure there is more to it, but I'm yet to hear anything about this movie that puts it in a must-watch category. I'm probably going to wait until it's streaming? Not sure.
@@ImpressionBlend Probably too late now, since it'll be regulated to really small screens this late in the run.
It's actually playing in a quite a few theatres around me, still.
The favorite should have won the Oscar! ☹️
Scholars among you won't need telling 1917 is a epic film to add to your last......ps nice video.
Marianna, i'm glad that i trusted you with the recommendation of One cut of the dead (2017) aka Kamera wo tomeruna! (2017), because i really liked, without spoiler, i just recommend to all to watch it too.💜
I'm glad you liked it! Tough movie to recommend without spoilers thought, right?
@@ImpressionBlend Exactly xD.
Really need to get on Parasite and Jojo Rabbit soon.
YES!
Have you watched Marriage Story?
The favourite was my favourite last year
I just watched it’s a wonderful life for the first time and I was blown away by it
Awkward moment: I'm yet to watch "It's a Wonderful Life"...
Impression Blend it’s definitely worth the watch.
Jojo rabbit best movie I've seen in the cinemas so funny yet emotional
1. The King
2. The Farewell
3. The Irishman
I keep forgetting to watch "The King"...
Okay you've convinced me. Watching The Favorite right now. Emma Stone is super funny in it.
I hope you loved it!
@@ImpressionBlend Yes I did! Reminds me of Stanley Kubrick's Barry Lyndon.
you're my new go-to. since chris stuckmann got all those tattoo's he keeps dropping unnecessary F-bombs and it makes me cringe.
It's more that he tends to like movies I really don't :)
actually your sister has a main part in Jojo Rabbit?....I´m in ;-).
I wish you appreciated Yorgos Lanthimos more.
I appreciate him, but I don't appreciate the style of performances he went for in his previous films
Impression Blend It is a deliberate style that is an acquired taste.. But it suits mine =)..
@@ImpressionBlend
I preferred the style he used for his characters in his previous films. I guess we can't all handle that monotone delivery.
@Rick G I know it's a deliberate style, I'm just not a fan of it. I like to see people acting like people ))
@@ImpressionBlend
Being the autist that I am, I guess I have a liking towards that direct and cold approach he uses.
No lighthouse? 😭😭😭
Parasite is best and that will always be true.
maybe she saw Joker in spring time lol
Or maybe she just didn't love it as much as these movies ;)
❤️
this chick is cool !!!!
Marry me?
Any light's fine as long as I can see you.
haha well that's good ))
Gad, Ad Astra was one of the worst science fiction films I have seen in years! If The Martian was a 10 Ad Astra was a 2.
