Hello Joel, would you please state exactly what you mean by "Fine" Art? So far you have suggested it is just about anything. Accordingly it could even be a favourite image taken on a mobile phone using auto - and not really art at all.

This little video gives me a little confidence again, a lot of people say, drop it, you cant do that, but you can if you believe in your self and your work/art :)
Watching this now a few years after you posted this, but I think that photographic art (for the photographer) can be one of those things that you shoot a picture, and if it grabs attention and gains traction to a point where people want to buy a print, it's something that you invest time in once for that shot, and you can sell for years to come. Of course styles and "fads" change so if you're doing something like lifestyle photography and selling prints of that genre, that may be more challenging, but for things that typically don't change or go out of style, like landscape, those are genres you can really create a living from once you build up a portfolio of work that people are willing to pay for. Of course it isn't exactly that easy to do this, but with some work, I think it can be done and it can pay off for years to come.

I've heard the same thing. Even when I was in high school decades back my mother said I had "delusions". I don't know where this idea came from, but I suspect it came from, but I suspect it came from failed photographers.
