  • This one has been my on and off again project for the past few months, and I'm more than delighted to have this one done. I added the etched seat belts and top mirror. After seeing what could have been a picture of this particular Martlet. Anyways here it is, wings swept back this time and the cockpit opened, the new Airfix Martlet.

    When I was a kid, the "cockpit" of a 1:72 fighter was a seat perched on two cross-bars. Or sometimes just the pilot perched on two crossbars. Also, given the tools I had to work with back then, it's hard not to see the air brush and other such stuff as "cheating". My 12 year old self shakes his envious fist at you; my adult self wonders if it's not time to gear-up and get back into the game.

      Gear up my good sir! Old and new techniques compliment each other nicely in the modelling world. Cut up toothpicks and handbrushing still have their place!

    Brilliant idea with the electrical tape! Loved the image of the Wildcat & Martlet together.

      Thanks again Calvin, I was actually surprised on how well that worked out. Minus the mishap with the Maskol :/ It was pretty cool to see them together, I was really curious to see how the folded wing would work out, and so that was a good enough excuse to purchase the Martlet :)

    Very beautiful! It was nice seeing you do the Micro Krystal Klear to fill in those bottom windows, too. I like the ambient music, too.

      @rebelsatcloudnine  7 лет назад +1

      I love filling in windows with Krystal Klear, it's such cool stuff. I was worried that the space was too large and the glue wouldn't work, but as you saw it filled in perfectly. I'd like to do an airliner just to fill in all the windows :D

    First model video I have watched i absolutely ages.. since I swapped shifts at work and no longer do nights, I have even less time for RUclips, unfortunately.. :( Anyway, great video as always, I missed your narrating throughout the build but it was still easy to follow. Never knew Citadel did some kind of filler, will have a look out for it next time I go to a shop that sell Citadel stuff.. :) Great to see the full build in one video, and the end result is absolutely stunning.. :) It will take a while before I will do mine as I'm still building MiGs and once they are done I am doing TWO Me 410's for another Group or Buddy Build.. After that I plan to do a couple of Drakens. Thanks to the MiG builds I have already completed more models this year than during the last couple of years combined. :)

    • @rebelsatcloudnine

      It's a very nice filler for smaller gaps, and it dries quite quickly. I've was able to sand it within 6 hours, instead of waiting a few days for the Tamiya putty to shrink. And not really any odor to this stuff as well. I'm going to be making an order for a few more of these, it turned out to be very helpful to my workshop :D

    Presently watching this with me is a cat named Grumman. 😸 Very nice little model kit and nicely done. Does it have a pilot? Though I've been using Microscale decals and their various liquid products since the 1970s, their Micro Kristal Klear and I have yet to figure out how to play well together.

    Nice and clean, I love small scales, detail engines and heavy weathering. Advice...if a product, is not working in the way you like, don t send it to hell, remember the way it works and use it later in other type of effects, in vehicles, structures you know, sky is the limit for a modeler.

    • @rebelsatcloudnine

      Thanks Oscar, but I gave Maskol several chances, it ruined 2 of my favourite brushes (I was told it would dissolve in water) and this was the last straw. Since then I've moved onto Mr.Hobby Masking Sol NEO, and it's amazing and wonderful, and as a bonus I can clean it from my brushes with water :D

    I liked the video, but I'd rather watch it with your comments. You could do it as Owen from Quick Kits does. He tapes the build and then adds comments over it. By the way, I've always masked my camouflage paints with Maskol and it's never happened to me. I use Humbrol paints though. I don't know, you might have allowed some time for the paint to cure before applying Maskol, or maybe it might be the wet weather. What's the weather like in Canada at this time of the year? Sorry, It's just a suggestion, you're a very talented modeler. I liked the idea of electrical tape, I'll use it in my next build. I loved the final result. Congrats!. Alex

    • @rebelsatcloudnine
      @rebelsatcloudnine  7 лет назад +1

      That's what I'll be doing for the next build.... probably. I'm not too sure what went sour with the Maskol either. I've used it on Tamiya acrylics many times, with no troubles. Was probably something microscopic or oil beneath the paint? Glad you liked it, thanks for watching Alex :D

    Painting acrylics over unprimed plastic-recipe for peeling under any circumstance. At least bare plastic need a good alcohol wash first. Better yet prime the bare plastic first. OR use enamels or lacquers. Nice job anyhow.

    STUNNING WORK! So accurate in detail that it almost seems like a 1/48th (or bigger) model. Excellent.
    Just one question: aren´t wing ailerons supposed to move in reverse- one up and the other down? ^^ I might be wrong, and also it might be my confusion after the foldable wings of the aircraft...

    • @rebelsatcloudnine
      @rebelsatcloudnine  7 лет назад +1

      Thanks Alan, I'm glad you enjoyed it. It's a bit of a shame if they just enlarged the kit to 48th scale they'd give a lot of companies a run for their money :) It's what the instructions called for, so I just followed em. I think it's something they do when they are folded.

    • @pawelpw1161
      @pawelpw1161 Год назад +1

      I see no reason to use Maskol here, as it is quite expensive when compared to regular masking tape from home depot. Also there is no real restriction on how long you can keep item masked. Electric tape is a good one :D
      Soon Tamiya will make/brand even special modellers toilet paper and soap, so your stay at toilet will become real precise pleasure :D

    Very nice build, thanks for sharing. Sure takes up a lot less room with the wings folded! This is the first time I've seen you use Citadel Liquid Green Stuff as a filler. Do you find it superior to the solvent based fillers you've used in the past? Might have to try and find some. Keep up the great work!

    • @rebelsatcloudnine
      @rebelsatcloudnine  7 лет назад

      I just got it a few months ago, I did use a bit of it on the G4M. I find it's really nice stuff, for smaller gaps. It does shrink a bit, but it took less to dry properly. I think thinner layers it only needed 6 hours, and for the gaps on these 6-12 hours. I'd high suggest grabbing a bottle and trying it out. Like I mentioned I use it for smaller gaps, I still use Tamiya putty for the larger ones.

      The green is similar to the same green used on the interior of many American P-47's. I found a picture of a Martlet with that same color and thought it would be an interesting color to use instead of Zinc Chromate.

    • @Wombat1916
      @Wombat1916 7 лет назад +1

      +rebelcloudnine American aircraft destined for the FAA were given new names at first. The Wildcat became the Martlet (I have a 1/32nd scale model of that) and the Avenger became the Tarpon. Later acquisitions like the Hellcat and Corsair kept their original names.
