    Hey guys. A tip. When the boat is up to speed. Take the throttle down a bit. It is half the nois and you go just as fast. This has to do with the hull speed. When in top speed it pulls the hull down in the water and therefor you go slower. Because the motor overpowers the hullspeed. So when you throttle a 1/4 down then you go fast and thus less noise. Greatings from the netherlands

    Yo! The creepy building and land at 4:15 are the remains of the Bridge Boatyard. It was a base for part of the Hoseasons Hire Fleet. Changeover day was Saturday and you had to be back by 11am I think. Pick-up for the new hirers was about 2:30pm (but we’re talking years ago). There was a team of girls who cleaned the insides and my job was to clean the outsides - it was pretty manic. The best bit was piling on board once the boaters had left to see what goodies they couldn’t be bothered to take home - freebees for all us staff!. The boatyard was run by Terry Kelly who was a lovely beardy salty sea bloke who gave me a dinghy for my 16th birthday. It stayed open for a year or so after Hoseasons pulled out but the writing was on the wall as Greek holidays were dirt cheap.. had to sell my dinghy as nowhere to store it.... sniff.... Terry lived downstairs with a bar built into the front left room (!) where all the boat staff including my Dad got plastered after the last hire boat had left. Many happy memories working there and always sad to see it in such a state when I pass… The building on the right at 4:35 after the bridge used to be Godmanchester Hoisery which was a factory making undergarments and built in 1850 (that’s ten to seven in new money….) More useless info following to accompany your travels!

      @TheNomadicCrobot  2 года назад +1

      Oh wow what an amazing story, it certainly stuck out, and such a shame these building are just left to gather dust, I cam see how it would make a perfect hub for a hire company, such a great location 👍 I think we need to start researching our surroundings a tad more 😀

      @@TheNomadicCrobot Have you noticed the architrave on the bridge at 4:22 changes in the middle? This is because it was part-funded by Huntingdon (left) and Godmanchester (right). Huntingdon had more money so they obviously wanted to show off! Used to row my dinghy into that archway at the hosiery4:35 - now that was creepy! Oh, don’t forget to find that Imray book! Happy Boating!

    Hi Chris and Becca……Regarding your buzzing phone charger…..your inverter is more likely a ‘modified sine wave’ type, which wont run anything apart from an old type radio and bar type heaters and will affect anything we all now use day to day as they’re full of electronics. A modified sine wave inverter can also damage these devices. You need a decent ‘Pure Sine Wave’ inverter as these produce the same as the grid does so everything runs sweet. The proper pure sine ones are expensive, and modified sine are as cheap as chips and we tend to use these as mud anchors……😁

    Just a thought... Take a page out of the logbook of "Foxes Afloat" and please add a little more detail about what you see along the way e.g. Hemingford Church, it's rare to see a church right on riverside; I had to search for it on GE. And that block of flats by the river just past the old bridge was once a hosiery mill. And I think that bridge next to it is nearly 700-years old. Might be of interest to some of your viewers. Otherwise, love your style of vlog, keep it up. OH, and yes, by the look of it, St. Ives probably is... Must go there someday to check that out.

    Why does my computer charger make noise?
    A "hum" or "whine" is relatively normal, and likely an innocent by-product of the transformer using electromagnetic plates to convert current. A "crackle" or "sparking" noise is potentially a sign of a failing transformer, and a potential fire hazard

    Hi Becca, Chris, it's great seeing you are on the move. Nice cruise too. At the end of the Vog, your mooring lines were a bit odd. You had put out spring lines. Notice your bow was drifting out. One should pull back on your bow line and then Moore up, On the stern, the line should be moored to the rear of the stern. Having the extra two spring lines are very helpful in windy or bad weather conditions. I loved the Vlog. Thank you. Have a great week. Take Care.

    If your engine starts but your lights went out it would suggest that your leisure batteries (separate from the engine starter battery) are knackered or the alternator isn't charging them. You mentioned that your battery was down below 9v (not sure which one) but I'd say that whichever battery that is needs replacing. If it's one of the leisure batteries (there's normally more than one) then I'd replace them all! Lead acid batteries should not be discharged below 50% capacity (about 12.06v) or they will lose capacity quickly!

    You might find the Charger does not like the mains voltage from the 230V inverter, the cheap inverters do not make a very nice output waveform. it should be a sinewave at 50Hz but they tend to be a series on steps in voltage which look a bit like a sinewave but is not. this can cause noise in some devices.

    Yay, Crobot day! Good to see things going so well, although whilst you're on the move, we don't get to see Chris's wonderful DIY skills 😁 Also, no Titan action. Good luck on the next leg guys.

    Ahead you go and we will follow! If you think your battery is low, and you start the engine successfully is it realy smart to shut the engine out again? Is'n it better to keep the engine running until you finished the daytrip? T U 🥰😇

      Haha cheers Rolf, yes your probably right, I think we just guessed it may have a separate starter battery so got a bit cocky, always great to hear your wise words 😀

      Yes just a small new leak, from the river , but it's only small...I think 🤔 stern gland issues that have rapidly increased since cruising, thank you 😊

    If your batteries were down to six or seven volts they are totally fritzed. But the alarm would likely have sounded around 11 or so (which is still very low). With the panels producing charge the volts you read are prolly higher than the charge the batteries are typically holding.

    • @TheNomadicCrobot
      @TheNomadicCrobot  2 года назад

      Thanks for your help, yes an alarm went off on the inverter but we've been careful not to let it drop that low since and have been OK. Only one light comes on when starting the engine and then turns off after running a few moments in, the leasure batteries do seam to be charging as we have been having more power after our cruises, thanks again

    Just a question when your in your car you drive down the left side of the road but when you boat you mainly are on the right side of the canal is that preference or is that a law?

    • @TheNomadicCrobot
      @TheNomadicCrobot  2 года назад

      I'm not sure if it's law..im not sure there are many laws driving a boat,which can be good and bad i suppose, but yeah me and becca were discussing this the other day, staying right is the right thing to do , how odd 🤔

      The International Regulations for the Prevention of Collision at Sea also apply on rivers and canals. So everyone passes port to port, unless signalling otherwise.

    Hey fantastic! I got caught up on the last few vlogs just now. You finally got moving! That's a good two weeks traveling around and enjoying yourselves back and forth to your hull blacking thing. I hope all goes well!
    EDIT: Oh yeah, your laptop charger noise. I am guessing the problem does not occur when you plugged into a regular power grid. I could be wrong. I think it has something to do with inverters, ac/dc conversion, etc. Maybe stop at a gas station or something and see if the noise occurs there?

    • @TheNomadicCrobot
      @TheNomadicCrobot  2 года назад

      Thanks for your help, yes it doesn't seam to make this noise when plugged into a household socket, I just don't want to damage anything, there's so much to learn, it's lovely to be able to experience a bit of off grid boat life, mooring up we're we please,just amazing 😀

      @@TheNomadicCrobot - it's a waste of energy inverting 12vDC up to 240vAC and then using a switched mode power supply to get the 240vAC back down to the required voltage for the laptop. Best to get a direct 12v adapter.
