london being my first ever marathon feels SO surreal 🙈 i'm excited, a bit deflated because i'll be running on a slight injury, and now starting to feel the nerves . . . but it's definitely going to be one of the best days of my life 🤩🏃🏻‍♀️ good luck everyone running this year ✨

I am not running London but the OKC RuntoRemember tomorrow. It's my first live Marathon and I am feeling so many doubts and nerves right now. Thank you for this video to remind me that this should be fun. After running a virtual marathon last year I am counting on the energy of the crowds to keep me going. Just hoping to finish this year. But I love how Rick reminded me that all the finishers get a medal, no matter the time.

My London Marathon Best Tip: Make sure your name is printed BIG on the front of your shirt. People you've never met will be shouting your name all the way. I had a planned distraction technique which was to count the number of times someone shouted my name as I went along. By mile 2 I'd lost count.....

I always go out too fast in marathons and half marathons. Now my race plan includes "run the first 2km too fast, then fall back into a slower steady pacs" I've found it doesn't really hurt to start too fast, just don't try to hang on to it.

Going to be my first marathon and been buzzing for it all week. Just the idea of running past the Cutty Sark, across Tower Bridge and the run down the Mall is keeping me motivated! Though the biggest motivation has to be the post-race pint!!

Can’t believe I’ve done it…virtually.Started 2am,walked first 13.1 due to slight injury then opened it up.I am so chuffed with myself to be honest, took 60 years though lol.Just gotta say quickly the marathon app was brilliant, listening to Paula Radcliffe etc reall kept me going

This will be my first official marathon, but I ran the virtual last year and my biggest tip from that is to pack a spare pair of socks if you have a backpack. It was raining last night and changing to dry socks at the 20mile point really helped me keep motivated

I'm sitting in my hotel room with the window open listening to the sounds of London - the rain, car horns, the emergency vehicles...
The bag-drop/expo was as well organised as it could possibly be for a Saturday. The queue was thousands strong - moved pretty quickly: I suppose it was only 30 minutes to drop bag off, then another 10-15 to pick up bib.
The 'bring a negative covid test. SMS or email is - to be frank - risible. I'm sure if ones test came back positive one would report it as such and not attend...
"it's OK, I've only been training for 6 months and I'll just give back all the money I collected for XYZ god cause"
I would (very briefly) struggle with my conscience... and win 🤠

I’m doing the 2023 London Marathon 😁 I also ran it in 2019, one thing I would say is that even though I think the first wave goes off around 9:15 I was in one of the last corrals to go at around 10:20am and I hadn’t figured on starting off so late and was really hungry soon after starting running. So make sure you eat something before running, and try to go to the loo as well before heading to the start line 🤣

Hello Running Channel, I watch most of your videos. I have a little question for you.
What would happen if some day you are unable to train? Either because of your work, or some issues related to your family, friends, or whatever.
Do you try to compensate, and do those duties the next day? Do you just skip 1 day from your training sessions?
    Thanks for the information!

In the tower bridge and beyond section ye mention trying some mantra to keep you going. Have you any suggested/recommended mantras as I’ve hit difficult periods in the past when running and had to walk? Or any tips in general to prepare yourself mentally for a race.

    • @Kelly_Ben
      @Kelly_Ben 2 года назад +1

I'm a manta girl- I actually bring a big poster board covered in mantras to my ultras. 😆 The ones that have truly kept me going are: Forward is a pace; Pain doesn't matter, do it anyway; Just keep swimming; This is what you came for; It's always too early to quit; No regrets. I have a ton more, because you'll never know what mood you'll be in, how you'll feel, and what will best motivate you. I read them all before the start, and my mind settles on 1 or 2 when things get tough. Good luck!!
