Awesome! I'm excited and it's not even my engine! This has always been my plan for my 1993 RS Liberty (Legacy) wagon in the future! I look forward to watching this through to you driving it!
I have a ver7 ej207 in my 2004 for the past few years, and the 5spd finally went. I’m in the process of doing a jdm 6spd swap, and was wondering if you had time for afew questions.
Thats awesome, Luke! Can't wait for the installation. Question, in your wrecker visits do you come across any 05 - 07 wrx/sti's? I'm looking for a headlight adjuster switch and the wiring to the headlight any idea how much these would cost and if you would find them at the yards you go to (self pull)?
I know one issue folks can run into with these swaps is the neutral switch sensor. I think JDM was backwards from USDM or some nonsense like that. Give it a search before completing trans install or startup. You should be good if you have all the sensors on the trans already if you're using JDM ecu too
@@SubaruONLY An awesome engine and trans for a awesome project man! I had the exact same question about harness, would love to watch a video of you talking about that!
Id get the oem master reseal kit from amazon around 200 and reseal it. Clean the heads, clean the tops of pistons, intake manifold. Put ARP head studs, heat wrap and paint the exhaust. I pulled the stock metal shield of exhaust manifold and painted with DEI high temp then wrapped it in the titanium wrap, then painted again. Tomei catless down pipe.
Awesome - thanks buddy!!! So you think pull the heads huh? Still on the fence about that one. But prob a good idea. Also, gonna upgrade the oil pan and pick up (not sure which style pan yet, OEM deep dish or aftermarket, also cost to consider), and GDT coolant balance kit, last pick up a new AOS (maybe IAG?)
In a old video I thought you said you might used a ej207 bottom end and ej205!heads of so I have been hunting hard for avcs heads for my built bottom end after passing BAR. I live near auburn ca
Hey buddy. We live pretty close. I’m in Concord. I’ve been to Auburn many times, for M45 and for other random outdoors stuff - awesome little town. Yes, using the bottom end was an option I was considering, but now that I have this complete engine, I’ll only use my USDM ECU, turbo, injectors, TGVs, and engine harness. I’ll keep the EJ207 shortblock, heads and cams, and it looks like the intake manifold is exactly the same, so I’ll use the JDM one with the correct wrinkle coat color (it’s more of the cherry red color). Congrats on passing the BAR too - that’ll be my next step for this RS! 👍
awesome driveline! curious to see if you stick with your current brake setup (4 pot/2pot) or if you upgrade to the 5x100 brembos found on that same version 7 STI if you do end up swapping id love to purchase your old 4/2pots from you! you just gained a new fan!
NIce! can't wait to see it installed. What's our opinion on banjo bolt filters? (not sure if EJ207 v7 has them) I've seen mixed reviews on removing those.
Yes, exactly. No DCCD. Will be looking at a clutch-style LSD (per the recommendation from my buddy Ryan Dussex and DSX Motorsports - CHECK THEM OUT!), for road course use.
Convert to Speed Density MAP sensor for tuning with Carberry ROM. Google Carberry ROM and see all the features available. : ) Tactrix Open source OBD2 dongle to access the 16 bit ECU.
@@SubaruONLY i think your rears will need to be rolled fenders or put some insane camber to avoid rubbing. The fronts i think will be ok. And i think u have to run skinnier tires. Look up the video GC8 hoonigan autofocus and how he explains in his part 2 video.
Check out my Instagram on my bugeye has a full compete version 7 sti drivetrain swap. I did 5 years ago in my driveway. If you have any question regarding the swap just send me a message. I didn’t go with the EJ207 engine. I just ended up going with a brand new USDM 2.5 short block with my 2.0 heads. Came our way cheaper then going with a used ej207.
The 6 sp sti is amazing, get a nice r180 clutch diff if you can, it'll make the car power oversteer lol V7 has forged Pistons oem. Same crank as 205 v8 got double cross drilled crank, and I think v10 got double cross drilled with nitrated crank and super fat cylinder liners. Even then, the non forged Pistons on later 207s are way stronger than 255/257 pistons, completely different design The 207s are so fun, revvy like a very fun Honda k20/f20c
Wow that intake manifold is in great condition no paint chipping at all! Nice!
Yes, right. I was surprised how clean it is too. They almost always have a lot of chipping.
Awesome man I can’t wait to get my ej207
I just installed mine in the bug eye last week. It is fast. I feel like Ken Block boosting.
Awesome! 🤙
Yay very happy for you Luke gonna be sweeeet!!!! I bet your super excited!!!!
So so excited. Been working on it day and night. Got both engines stripped already - this setup is sick!
Awesome! I'm excited and it's not even my engine! This has always been my plan for my 1993 RS Liberty (Legacy) wagon in the future! I look forward to watching this through to you driving it!
Thanks buddy! This has been my long term plan too. Super excited! Gonna share it all for sure!!!
Dude, im so excited for you! Glad you brought some testing tools with ya!
Hell yea, never again!!! Thanks buddy, giving it my all to make it out there with you and share some track time together!!!
Im glad to see this...im about to do the same.for a 2004 wrx. Im looking at diffs and axels for the complete swap
👍
I also have Ver7 Ej207 in my bugeye! BTW, Ver7 is from 2000-2001 Model year in Japan
Thank you for the clarification!!! 👍
I’ve got a EJ207 in my blobeye WR1, factory forged too
Legit. 👌
what a combo!
I have a ver7 ej207 in my 2004 for the past few years, and the 5spd finally went. I’m in the process of doing a jdm 6spd swap, and was wondering if you had time for afew questions.
Great find man! This is the end game for one of my RS’s. Excited to see the progress
Cheers and thanks!!!
Are you going to find a matching rear diff? What about the axles? Are you going to upgrade to the brembo brakes and knuckles?
All depends on what I can find. Yes, matching rear diff is a must.
I-wire for the wire conversion? Or you swapping the whole hardness?
Have an iWire conversion.
@@SubaruONLY awesome!
Your going to love the 8k rpm on the 207, this makes me wanna bring my jdm sti out 😁!
🤙
Dang I'm jealous! Not sure if I'm more jealous of the engine or the trans, hahaha.
Hahah, feel ya, stoked on both too. 👍
Haha i thought you were going to drive the forester forward with the engine jacked up.
Was considering that too actually!! 👍

Pretty much never find those. Think they get picked up before the wreckers.
@@SubaruONLY Yeah, they're pretty hard to find.
Does the version 9 come with forged internals
No, don’t think so.

Yes, thank you for that tip, I’ll be sure to verify this one for sure!!!
Can you just drop it in the car and its good to go? Or do you need to do a bunch of wiring and ecu stuff?
Can basically drop it in and go. No wiring stuff needed. My 05 USDM ECU and harness will work fine. 👌
Awesome. Don’t know if i want to ball out on a six speed or just build my 5 speed. Are you going to add the installation to the build series? :)
Yes, planning to. Cheers!
Does that have a catalytic converter in the up pipe?
Nope! But will need to use one for the CA emissions checks.
@@SubaruONLY maybe a way around it? Best not to ruclips.net/video/N7QscCfDyb4/видео.html
Nice - thanks. Love old Brett videos!!!
what's the difference between v5/v6 phase 2 EJ207 between yours? I believe v5/v6 EJ207 also has forged piston and rod?
Not sure. Don’t think V5/6 had forged pistons or semi-closed deck.
now im curious what he necessary harness are for a GC
For the 207? Gonna use the USDM engine harness for now, managed by the USDM ECU
