He's a mix of Italian and Irish, English, and Dutch. He's always been a good actor, but he doesn't look Italian like most of the people on The Sopranos like Tony, Bobby, Paulie, Christopher, Pussy, Junior, etc.
Either way, I don't think anyone could have done a better job playing Nucky than him kind of like how nobody could have done a better job of playing Tony Soprano than James Gandolfini.

1:35 - Haha I love how Al takes an apple from the bag, Capone used to pay merchants up to $20 an apple just to show his generosity and how much he cared for them (which was mostly a ploy to make sure people wouldn't turn on him in case of an indictment). Nice little touch there.

This scene is pretty accurate when it comes to mob "loyalty". The closest I've seen to real life is Casino when they start knocking off anyone they deem "could be a threat" to them even if those men greatly helped them over the years. The D'lessio brothers were hired for a job. They did a crappy job but still hired for it. But once the mob bosses decided to make peace these guys were expendable. Even Lucky, Lansky, and Bugsy could only protect each other so long. They had to let Bugsy die or possibly okay the hit.

Jimmy never had the makings of a varsity enforcer.
Owen was a better enforcer than Jimmy and didn't have all the psychological damage. All the problems in the first season were Jimmy's fault. If he didn't rat on Mickey while robbing and killing Rothstein's men, Rothstein wouldn't have gone to war and the D'Alessio brothers never would've robbed O'Neil, shot Eli, or shot at Nucky, and the election would have been a lot easier without accusations of corruption after Eli got shot in the casino.
It wouldn't have made sense to let Jimmy live after everything that happened and his death was foreshadowed in the first season when Nucky told him he could have him killed, when Jimmy told Nucky he couldn't be half a gangster, and when Eli asked Nucky if he would be so forgiving if it was him in S1E3 when Nucky told Jimmy to leave Atlantic City.

Our system? More like every system since the dawn of civilization.
And really, was it so bad for the citizens of Atlantic City? Nucky provided a service everyone wanted and he kept the streets relatively safe for non-gangsters. Like the Commission the RL Luciano set up. The alternative is anarchy or something like Communism which is far worse.

it's true that the kid was probably irredeemable. probably. but at that time he was relatively innocent, he only served as a driver for his brothers. you could tell he didn't know how to handle a gun.

Unless someone is being overthrown here there's no coup d'état happening. D'Alessios were not in control of the Atlantic city, they were a minor gang trying to push into Thompson's territory. This is a mop up not a coup.

Its funny how alot of Buscemi's characters are alway a push over in other movies, but In Boardwalk he's a person not to be Fucked with.

He was the smartest crook in Reservoir Dogs, though, by a long shot. And probably the only one to survive (it sounds like he's being captured outside the warehouse at the end).
      Also, STFU, Donnie.

Nope, it's made for the movie. By Vince Giordano and the Nighthawks. It's even called D'Alessio Drums. As far as I know it wasn't included on any of the soundtracks. :(

HBO makes the best shows. The wire and Boardwalk empire are my favorites. I personally like Boardwalk empire more than The Sopranos.

I was so mad they killed Edoardo Ballerini (the guy Harrow kills), he's such an awesome actor. They should rehire him in some other capacity on the show.

Yeah! There is something very creepy and strange about him...he has a very unique presence for sure! Hope to see him in something else soon.

@taistelutomaatti Sure, why not? It's happened before on tv programs... I mean they're actors, they can transform themselves. Not saying it's common of course. I just love the guy and think his look and style are perfect for the time period of the show.
