Nissan Cotter Pin 40073-0L700 (2)

If you guys have questions feel free to comment or message me and I will be more than willing to help you!
I just finished fixing the clicking noise on my Infiniti FX35 Sport. I did it the exact procedure Nissan/Infiniti recommends. They recommend to use the same lock nut and same washer. You only need new cotter pins and Brake Caliper Grease which contains the Moly M77 material. It cost me $11 to fix it and it runs like brand new. You can do it yourself. Don't hesitate!
Yeah super easy fix took like 2 hours maybe
Where is this procedure they recommend? Is there a link I can use to see it? I need to fix this annoying click in my 04 G35
@@TrueBullsfan23 the process is basically the same between a Gs and Zs I don't know if the axel nut is the same. But Nissan/infinities fix is to just pull the axel completely and relube, many people have said this doesn't work or lasts only a couple months
@@drewworkz169 hmm then I’m definitely going to try and do what you did instead, just gotta make sure I use the right axel nut. Thanks for the reply! This noise is getting annoying, I’ve been putting it off, I’m not that handy under the car but I should be able to do it
Ok Hold up a sec here.
I have an 09/M35VQHR & I have learned that greasing that cv axle would help a lot. anybody
Thanks man... i've been fighting this issue for about 4 years now. Finally I wont be annoyed by that clicking sound. Cheers from Croatia!
Thanks for watching! And Im glad I could help!
I f***ing love how you showed a quick way to diagnose it by rocking the car in the beginning and gave the parts numbers in the description. I was getting ready to throw my whole car away before getting robbed by the dealership since the noise was driving me crazy. You probably have years of Karma from this one video, thank you so much man!
As for Jacks I bought the Harbor Freit 3 ton LOW PROFILE jack for about $150. I've had it for 4 years and love it. My only regret is not dishing out the extra $50 for the one that was LOW PROFILE & LONG REACH. After lowering the care It can't reach the front jacking point so im forced to rack up one side at a time and it's such a hassle.
Man really appreciate it! I'm glad it was easy to follow still very new to youtube so I'm doing my best!
@@drewworkz169 defiantly the perfect video hahah great job man! I updated my comment about to recommend a jack, don’t know if you already bought one but hope it helps! Well worth the money!
Life saver! I almost traded in my G37 because I’m having this same issue, very annoying. Watched these videos and immediately ordered the parts. Thanks!
That's awesome! I hope the repair goes easy and fixes your issue! And thanks for watching!
Hey man, any way you could do a list of the tools you used to remove it all, size wise and such
Hey Drew ! Awesome 👌 370Z! I just subscribed to your channel! Thanx for the tips! I'll be buying my 1st 370Z soon.
I hear a clunk noise every time I shift gears to reverse, 1st gear, 2nd gear, and sometimes 3rd gear but idk if my axels are messed up or if I have a bad tranny
Do you hear the noise on deceleration? Because if it's the axels you'll hear it everytime you speed up and slow down as the axel moves slightly causing the clicking.
Can u put a link where u found the Nissan spring washer plz
so i have the same problem with my 350z. hearing a click/clunk with slow speed acceleration/deceleration. i thought it was my rear diff bushing since it has been blown forever. i fixed the bushing issue and now the clicking is even louder! i was very discouraged. im hoping this is the issue and the noise will be fixed!
I know I’m very late but did it help?
what is your wheel set up? (those are nice)
Nice video man appreciated!!!
I have a similar issue with my 370z I am gona do that also.
I just want to know which type/model of Michelin tires you have on your 370z, are they quite on the road?
Hope everything works out! They are PS4S and they are pretty quite for how wide they are
If you want a lot less road noise look into the Vredesteins. I am done with ps4s’s after several years. You’re paying $400 extra for faster tire wear and tons of road noise once they wear down about 25%….
I am running their dedicated snow tires and they’re simply unbelievable in terms of noise and confort
Would you need to do the front as well or it’s different
Different
@@drewworkz169 dose the front click or just the back
@@creditdportg8191 just the back there is no axels in the front
@@drewworkz169thanks bbg doing the rears next did the fronts the seized rotors are no joke
Nice vid ! Question, I also have this issue with my infiniti m35h, did you have any driving issues, like the vehicle hesitating to change the gear before the fix ?
No. Just a noise
Hey will these parts also work with my 350z?
so brake caliper grease will do the trick?
whats size of wrench to take the bolt off?
I don't think brake caliper grease will do very well. The compound is quite abit different. And it's a 32mm socket
Great vid man! If you mind me asking what are the wheel and tire specs for the rear?
Thanks! They are Forgestar F14s. Fronts are 19x9.5 +20 Deep with 255/35/19 tires. Rears are 19x11 +15 Superdeep with 305/30/19 tires.
Tires are Michelin pilot sport 4S.
Having the same issue with mine but I thought it was the axles completely was about to buy some new ones to install them but now seeing this video thinking of trying this first
Awesome, pull your wheel off and you'll see the castle nut on the axle probably messed up
no power tools ?
Hey, thank you for the video!!! Is this sound only when you step on the gas or lift it?? Since today my 370z makes ticking-noises. It sounds exaclty like a little stone in the tire....is this the same issue or another one?
My issue was in pulling away from a stop or slowing down you would hear a single tick each time. Or if I was driving in traffic it would click every time I went forward and let off the gas.
@@drewworkz169 Yes, I got it....seems that my driveshaft bearing is fcked up
I’m hearing a clunking noise on my Z that sounds like it’s coming from rear axel. I do have this axel click problem as well.. so I’m not sure if the click transformed into clunking now, or if it’s my rear diff bushing
Well you should be able to look under your car at the diff and if you see a stream down your subframe around your diff it could be that but I haven't heard anyone say that it makes clunking noise.
The axel clicking can get pretty aggressive the worse it gets. If you pull your wheel off you should be able to see if the cotter pin has bent the axel nut
Clunk is your sub frame mounts or your diff mount i bet
@@ethanalbers861 found out it was from an old and beat rack and pinion 😂 got it fix though
@@iiChiLLL your rack and pinion made your car have a clicking from the rear ?
@@vqhenny37 I thought it was, but it was my axel nut
I have been hearing this noise for a few months and just happend to see your video and am so glad. thanks a ton. I post my 370z street drifting content if you are interested? Im now subscribed :)
Awesome I'll sub! Hopefully the video was helpful. I know it's not 100% guaranteed to fix it but for how cheap it is and easy it is it's worth a shot!
Also congrats on being my very first comment lol
just found this video thank god. i just noticed that click every time i shift to reverse and cat start to roll and vice versa on my 2016 QX50 and it was driving me crazy. Where can i get those Kawasaki nuts?
I'm not sure it's the same fix for your car but do some research on it but the part is listed in the description got it from partzilla
Does this fits on a G35 coupe?
@@akaflakko6054 unsure, but I do believe the 350z and g35 have the same issue
Would the castle nut that you put in the description also work on a 2012 g37x?
I know the work for the RWD motors but maybe do some research for the AWD. Just look up the OEM castle nut and make sure it's the same for both and then you should be good
The plastic you are trying to fix go to northern tool or harbor fright and get a plastic welding kit after you clean the paint off you can weld it back together and then sand and repaint it
The guy said the type of plastic it is won't really weld back together cause that's what he was gonna do. He said it will mostly just burn and turn brittle
Where did you get the Pro Bolt LSSNUT24150001Z2BK i searched in Amazon but it's not there ? thanks,
I never ended up using those I stuck with the Kawasaki but it's held up just fine
Can’t you also use your existing spring washers and save some money and just buy 4, 2 for each side plus your original?
Yes, if I remember correctly that is what I did. They are fairly cheap though
So I just got a manual 2013 370z but I noticed it clickes when I take off, when I go from 1st to 2nd, when I reverse and when I down shift, tried moving my wheels like you did but didn’t hear the clicking lol
Bro I have all the issues u have but with my g37
What’s the grease/lubricant you used
Everything is listed in the video if you watch it. I did it so long ago I don't really remember. I believe the grease is Honda m-77 assembly that was recommended. But again I got through it all in the video
@@drewworkz169 ah gotcha I should’ve worded it better as in what’s the recommended, but if that’s the recommended I appreciate the help man
@@matthewlunsford2904 I had done a bunch of research before I started and that seemed to be the consensus. It's pricey for how small it is. But I can say that I daily drive my Z now and have yet to have an issue
@@drewworkz169 sounds great man much appreciated😁
@@drewworkz169 any other minor issues like this you’ve came across, I just bought a 2009 370z about 2 weeks ago and this is the only issue I’ve noticed
You need axle spacers bruhh!!! I put some on my 350z and it helped a lot no more cracking noise o when I turn slow. My car is on bc racing coils on the extreme low and I got 10mm spacers
Yo educate me a bit please homie, know I’m hella late lol
Where can I get that pro bolt, since the kawasaki axle nut is to short ?as you explained
You can search the part number in the description. But honestly the Kawasaki nut is just fine it's been holding up great
Its so hard to find the nissan cotter pin 43262a
@@melaniemanchester1412 use this I think I put the wrong code there 40073-0L700
I just found the pro bolt on their website. Did you end up ordering it?
My 370z is clicking when i shift from anything to reverse and also when im slowing down coming to a stop it makes a click aswell.. mechanic said greasing it up will fix the issue i hope it does and that it isn’t anything major because other than that the car drives good it doesn’t click while making turns so i guess thats a good thing right
It's exactly what I did in this video simply greasing will most likely not fix the issue because there is a part that will be bent
@@drewworkz169 is it expensive? How much is that part and labor ?
@@370z_ parts were about $75-100 I did the labor myself so I can't quote you on that sorry
@@370z_ Infiniti dealer said 2 hours labor to do my G37. $280 to take off axle and grease. Known issue.
Hey bro, my 370z is doing the same thing! Reverse or coming to a stop. Did you manage to fix the issue? Any advice?
Hey, do you know where I can get the PRO BOLT? It seems discontinued in every site I look
I do not I ordered the Kawasaki nut
@@drewworkz169 But you found it a bit short....so did you end up adding 4 washers per side or you just left it as is?
@@Alan318 it seemed short but my cotter pin went right where it was supposed to and it's been 6 months and I'm good
How many ft pounds on the torque wrench?
88ft I believe for the nut
How’s it holding up ?
Still no clicks! Been doing alot of backroading and a couple slides here and there and it's all still solid
I’m starting to believe it’s the 19 inch rims that have this issue. My 2010 came with 18s and I never had this issue.
Nah common across alot of Nissans and infinites even when stock. Just a bad design
Whenever someone works on the axle that involves removing the lock nut it causes the splines to dry up as the grease Nissan/Infiniti is supposed to be re-lubricated/greased to prevent axle clicking
4 washer each side!
Everywhere I've read and talked to it's 3 washers on each side
@@drewworkz169 thats why us seemed its to short Cotter pin. I check and do yesterday. Perfect fit 4 washer for hole Cotter pin.
@@MrDizaier well that's good. My cotter pin reached with 3 so I'm not worried thanks for the input though!
For 6 more blots you could have taken the whole axle out , but , i like where your go’in with this , that Kawasaki bolt comes off motor cycle or what , i’m go’in to order a grade 10.8 castle nut with the washers at 10.8 or better , i’ve seen other shows where they used blue locktite , wouldn’t use red , but if you did , it wouldn’t ever move , right
Haven't had an issue since so I'd say everything I did worked just fine
@@drewworkz169 your still on the same set up bro? Also have a bit of a crackling noise here and there but it sounds more like it’s coming from the middle rear of the car
Flex seal ?
????
yes absolutely
I did this and the clicking came back after about a month. Anybody find a real solution? Not just a bandaid.
I have heard people say it can come back. At that point the axles are probably your next bet. New axles both sides.
Mine seems to be holding up though.
The funny story I have the same problem but with my Nissan leaf 2021Mk2 😆
I know it plagued other models too but I thought they had sorted it on newer stuff lol
What size socket did you use to tighten and torque down the new axle nut? Is it 1-1/4?
It's a 32mm but yes I used a 1-1/4
Omg you should try buffing my car someday
That would be a good video
why not just rebend the nut sleeve and just retorque the axle nut? and do that as part of maintenance every few years .
Because that metal is very thin like aluminum. And it's already compromised. I did this fix almost 2 years ago and have had zero movement since.
