I was at Joe's concert at the vic just hours before this show at the riv in Chicago. My first time seeing joe. never seen gov't mule live but familiar with haynes music. joe is a beast on guitar. can't believe he had the energy to leave just shortly after his 2 or 3 hour set at the vic and go down the street to jam with these guys. He's just one of those guys who loves playing and doesn't want to put that thing down and just wants to collaborate with everybody in the business it seems.
In Indianapolis, I saw Mule the day before this show. Skipped this Chicago show to drive to St. Louis to see Joe. Got a phone call from friends who did Mule in Indy-Chicago-Detroit. They rubbed it in that Joe was on stage at the Riviera! My luck to miss my two favorite pickers on stage at the same time.
What i like most about this combo.. They have kept the original well deserved collins style & added a little of themselves! Pure Bliss to the ears when this happens!
Let's pray for YT automatically cancelling ALL comments, that only count and blame the "idiots" and dislikers or believe to realize a band-member looking like xy ... 7 out of 1279 are just 0,5 %. I'd rather be glad that 99,5 % are blown away by this breathtaking jam !
Please, let's not forget these guys go back quite a ways...What was it, 1993 when Haynes played with Joe B in Bloodline??? Joes come a major long way since those days...thanks for sharing the gem!!!
Some players clash but Joe and Warren really complement each other really well. Their styles mesh beautifully. Two real pros playing together and not trying to out do each other like a couple of kids might. They sound like they've played together for years even though this is a one off. This is real music by real musicians.
Wholly crap, this makes my day. Two of the baddest 6-string slingers walking the planet just RIPPING UP the stage together. I am a better person for having simply heard this!
where my guitar playing is at now I am not worthy to string Joes guitar never mind play along side...But even at my level there are times when I want to play but just cant get into it and cant find the sweet spot.. so it amazes me that these guys get up there night after night and kick ass...
Love Gov't Mule and Joe definitely has the licks. Great stuff. Warren Haynes playing with Dickie Betts in Allman Bros was the the stuff of gods. They were a natural together
okay, i couldn't fucking love this anymore. i love albert king. i worship warren haynes. i like and respect joe. i LOVE this song and they both play tastefully and respectfully and "duel" really well. superb playing from two complete masters. warren's been my guy since seeing the ABB as a 17 year old in 92. he smoked on that red strat.
Huge JB fan, but I admit I've never heard of Warren Haynes. These two together are absolutely awesome. Just when I thought I'd found all the good older JB videos on RUclips, I happen onto this one. Fantastic back & forth play.
Warren always steps it up a notch, as does who is ever on stage with him. JB always takes us to blues heaven, then coupled with Warren, it's outerspace. Would like to see Mule tour with Joe Bonamassa as a support. Can you imagins?
Cool! I didn't know this existed!!! I'm backstage on Warren's side for this one.....we came over w/ Joe after his show- this was SOOOO good!!! These two really played well together- Joe sounds just as good thru one amp as he does thru his 4 amp rig on this too. Its ALL in the hands baby!!! Thanks for posting this.
Have mercy, , , love the tone Joe gets from fingerpicking his leads for the softer leads then switches to a pick for the more aggressive passages, Warren's vocals are also killer, along with his playing. We're blessed to have both of them on this earth.
two amazing guitarists, who we are all blessed to be able to hear. Joe always has the right tone and phrasing for whoever he is playing with, and such feel and soul. And Warren is an unbelievable musician and possesses those same qualities. What an amazing experience this must have been to witness live...
THESE TWO ARE RIDICULOUS!!!!! WHAT THEY THREW DOWN AS IMPROV, IS BETTER THAN MOST GUITARISTS BEST COMPOSITION. I BELIEVE THEY PROBABLY EVEN MAKE GREAT MUSIC WHEN THEY PASS GAS!! WHAT AN EXAMPLE OF WHAT THE GUITAR CAN DO!!!!!!!!!!!! ROCK ON GUYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
These guys are simply not meant to be compared to one another. They fantastically and beautifully compliment each others styles. This is not a competition. This is art. This is a blood letting of soul through each of their fingertips. They have played together many times and will continue to seek the satisfaction of playing together again and again. Watching them key off of each other is nothing short of amazing. Warren brings incredibly solid structure. Joe brings those speedy fingertips that work so well within the structure that Warren provides. Neither of them could make this as amazing as it is without the other. Blues at its best and it`s written all over both of their faces. You can tell they are both in heaven. An absolute treasure of a trak. Watching these guys feed off of each other will keep me coming back. ( and already have at least a hundred times.)
Only person closer than me at this show was the cameraman. I was hypnotized, just in a daze. Great back story to this show, Joe was down the street playing a show and cut it short to come play with Warren. Jackie Greene opened for Gov't Mule.
Thanks. I made the connection between the two! I was on the road with Joe for Guitar world. I need to write a post about this on my Low Down and Dirty substack.
Love how two giants in such a competitive field collaborate so perfectly, Each demonstrating so well their respective obligations and qualities. Neither EVER stepping on the other, neither EVER leaving the other out. This performance done, no doubt, with the most casual preparation. Could you imagine one done with more careful intent? Perhaps collaboration with the vocals as well? Could it be any better? Hard to imagine.
Big Warren Haynes Fan and Warren turned me on to Joe in this video 2 years ago and man O man what can I say !! What O !! My guitar heroes and living legends keep on jamming on !! ps Guitar Center has new video of Warren And Joe last fall jamming to this same song at battle of the blues finals 2011!!~~ Enjoy !!
You can tell that Warren is getting off on Joe's playing and when the two of them start trading licks they just feed off of each other and it awesome to witness something special like these two amazing guitar players ripping it up.
It does not get better than that. There comes a point where it simply comes down to taste because the facility on the instrument and the musical vocabulary, tone, timing and note choice are so developed. This is one of those times.
Who could not like this?Warren Haynes and Joe Bonamassa on the same stage,Come on man!
Gov't Mule is still one of the best shows I have ever seen
NOW THAT'S MUSIC!!!!!!!!!
Music, the universal language.
The best 2 guitarists alive today on one stage..totally cool
Fantastic interplay between Joe and Warren towards the end! Amazing
They did great thanks for the opportunity to hear it.
That much talent on the stage at the same time must be illegal. Joe and Warren... just the best!
Great singing, great guitar work. Where are the millions of others who should have the sense to watch this?

This should have a million views.

Man, Warren Haynes and Joe Bonamassa together at one place is mind blowing. Two excellent guitarists, wow !
What i like most about this combo.. They have kept the original well deserved collins style & added a little of themselves! Pure Bliss to the ears when this happens!
Two of my favorites and two who bring it everynight, stretching to new levels, but all with respect to the original boys of the blues...........
JESUS CHRIST!!!!! I Love it!!!!! I believe I would have given my first born to be there to see that!!!!!

i love joes style and his guitar ,, this song is so crisp makes me hungry
The groove is unreal..
The part near the end where Warren and Joe "feed" off of each other was inspiring. 2 musicians actually LISTENING and reacting was truly remarkable.
So important and the audience notices that stuff!!!! Super cool
Blues makes you happy because when you hear it or play it or sing it, your blues go away. That's the reason for the blues.
2 grand masters at work - its a joy to watch!
it's about soul and tone, style and feel. They both got it big time.
Joe is the king of tone!!!
every time i think i've seen it all, Joe Bonamassa blows my mind again... you're BLOWIN' MY MIND JOE! BLOWIN' MAA MIND!!!!!!!!!!
Some players clash but Joe and Warren really complement each other really well. Their styles mesh beautifully. Wholly crap, this makes my day. Two of the baddest 6-string slingers walking the planet just RIPPING UP the stage together. I am a better person for having simply heard this!
my two loves... I could listen to Warren sing and Joe play allll day!
Joe ripps it up...as usual....Joe has been my fav for years now....he's great, and warrens pretty danm good as well...
I am so Jealous.. how many times Ive said i would LOVE to see these 2 play together!
where my guitar playing is at now I am not worthy to string Joes guitar never mind play along side...But even at my level there are times when I want to play but just cant get into it and cant find the sweet spot.. so it amazes me that these guys get up there night after night and kick ass...

I have the utmost respect for these 2 artist. both 2 gether. hell ya!
DAMN but this is good!!!!! Two best modern guitarists showing us their best!
Holy crap - THAT is what I'm talking about! Top of their game here...love it.
This is beyond good. The lcks they trade and the complementary styles to one another makes this version kick ass!
I have seen him here in our town. Volker is a great player! I have his CD's.. These two Joe and Warren are great.
Joe is a amazing guitarist!!! Natural Talent!
okay, i couldn't fucking love this anymore. i love albert king. i worship warren haynes. i like and respect joe. i LOVE this song and they both play tastefully and respectfully and "duel" really well. superb playing from two complete masters. warren's been my guy since seeing the ABB as a 17 year old in 92. he smoked on that red strat.
Damn, guitar grooving and jamming at its best. Both guys trade licks off each others style. Bonammassa is crazy good.
They look like they were having soooo much fun!
Great combination of those two together. Like it!
Keep up the great guitar work...Warren and Joe. I have seen Joe 4 or 5 times, now I just got to see Warren..They both are great..
WOW. when they were trading licks at the end. magical. jaw dropping. great pair to have on stage.
Huge JB fan, but I admit I've never heard of Warren Haynes. These two together are absolutely awesome. Just when I thought I'd found all the good older JB videos on RUclips, I happen onto this one. Fantastic back & forth play.
LOL!! The whole point of these jams is to hear the band create the magic. Guess I'm still a child and will be as long as I play music. :)
INCREIBLE!!!. Como siempre, Joe...............realmente un fenómeno con su Les Paul!!!.
Warren always steps it up a notch, as does who is ever on stage with him. JB always takes us to blues heaven, then coupled with Warren, it's outerspace. Would like to see Mule tour with Joe Bonamassa as a support. Can you imagins?
I just can't find the words to express what do I feel when I see thos guys playing together. SO GREAT !!!
