My father Howard Hausey wrote this as well as several others that Johnny Horton recorded including Honky Tonk Man.

Well, your father and his buddies wrote a legendary song that mountain people all over the world have been identifying with for years. It’s a testament to hill people and we play it rather loud here in Arkansas.

Great song. Not sure if Johnny Horton wrote it but he's a legend and it's one of my favorites by him. Billy's cool for covering it, just like the Dead were.

James McMurtry and Joe Ely do a more than credible duo version on McMurtry's 'Childish Things' album.

My father wrote this song. He also wrote Honky Tonk Man. His name was Howard Hausey. He was good friends Johnny Horton. Johnny did several of my dad’s songs.

@@christinahausey1344 That's quite a legacy. You should be proud. Your dad wrote some gems!

@christinahausey1344 Opry member Justin Tubb's son (Ernest Tubb's grandson) and I were neighbors and friends when I was a kid and in high school. When Dwight Yoakam's version of "Honky Tonk Man" was big on the radio, I told Mr. Tubb that I loved the song and how much I admired DY for writing it. He corrected me by stating that it was your dad who wrote it. First time I ever heard mention of your father's name. I know all about him now as I became a musician and songwriter myself.
